  • How Nile University of Nigeria Changed My Life – 400 Level Studentpreneur
    Tochukwu Ifeanyi

Universities are known for many things, but very rarely is a university associated with the word, therapeutic (having a healing effect). Yet, that is exactly what Tochukwu Ifeanyi (popularly known as Tochi) – a 400-level Accounting student of Nile University of Nigeria – did following her victory in the women-led category at the national finals of the 2023 WEMA Bank  Hackaholics competition.

Tochi, who won a mouthwatering cash prize of N5 million for her startup idea, Outsidee, at the  WEMA Bank-sponsored youth-focused startup competition, credited Nile University for bringing her from “a bad place mentally” to the brink of achieving her dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur.

Recounting her journey to her remarkable accomplishment on a hot November [2023] afternoon in one of the cozy meeting rooms in Nile University’s Administrative building, Tochi recalled the events of the grim final days of her second year (200 Level) as the turning point. At the time,  according to her, she fell into a “sad state” due to a series of experiences she preferred to keep private. Starting an internship, which required her to work from 9-5 daily, during the same period also made things worse.

“I was already in a bad place mentally, physically, everything. So, adding an intensive internship program which involved the hassle of commuting to and from work every weekday and dealing with the demands of 9-5 work in an unfamiliar environment worsened my mental state. The internship was not fun in any way,” Tochi stated.

However, true to the famous words of Napoleon Hill, “Every adversity contains, at the same time, a seed of equivalent opportunity,” Tochi managed to turn arguably the most difficult period of her life into a launching pad toward a successful and happier future. “The first step was telling myself that I didn’t want to be in this state anymore. I don’t want to feel like this anymore. Whatever it would take to not be the person I am now, I’d do it,” Tochi said.

Top on her to-do list was ensuring that she never had to experience a traditional 9-5 job again. “The internship came at the worst possible time which tainted my perception of the 9-5 life and made me determined to do everything within my power to never go back to it. Maybe if it had  come at another time, my experiences and perception would’ve been different.”

In her quest to rediscover happiness and rid herself of a future that included a 9-5 job, Tochi found the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub (formally known as the Collective Lab) of Nile University an invaluable guide and ally. “Before I fell into a sad state, I used to go to the Collective Lab [a dedicated collaborative space designed to develop an innovative entrepreneurial spirit among students] frequently to hang out and seek advice.

“Mrs. Binta [Gali Agbonika, the Collective Lab Manager] is a very welcoming person. You go there once, and before you know it, you’re there the next day, and the day after that… [She made the space very welcoming to students]. So, when I found myself in a bad place mentally, the  Collective Lab became my safe space to pour out my heart and get informal therapy.

(L-R): Tochukwu Ifeanyi, Mrs. Binta Gali Agbonika

“After my internship, when I became determined to never work a 9-5 job again, I went back to the Collective Lab to bounce several business ideas off Mrs. Binta, who was more than happy to listen and guide me. It was during this period that the opportunity to participate in the WEMA Bank Hackaholics came and Outsidee was truly born,” Tochi said.

Surprisingly, Outsidee – a platform that provides a robust search engine for all entertainment needs – which eventually won her the competition was not her first-choice startup idea. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve had an idea book where I write down different business ideas. When Mrs. Binta told me about the Hackaholics competition and asked me to return with a Startup idea we could refine and apply with, I went to my idea book and saw Outsidee.

“But I thought that since it was focused on entertainment, it wouldn’t be taken seriously. So, I  came back to her with a fintech idea for an app that helps users track their expenses. As an  Accounting student, I believed that this idea was more relevant to my field of study and sounded better as a potential startup,” Tochi stated.

However, while pitching the Fintech Startup idea to the Nile Collective Lab team, Tochi’s lack of passion for it was so evident that she was advised to provide other options. “Mrs. Binta told me that if it was that obvious to her that I wasn’t passionate about the idea, the judges would sense it too and I wouldn’t stand a chance in the competition,” she said.

Fortunately, Tochi’s Eureka moment soon arrived. “Later that day, something just told me that,  wait, you’ve had this Outsidee idea for over a year now. You have the name, the logo idea, and a

mental picture of how you want everything to be. Why not present it? If they reject it, at least  you know you’ve tried your best.”

To Tochi’s pleasant surprise, the Collective Lab team loved the Outsidee idea and asked her to submit it as her entry to the Hackaholics competition. This was the start of a whirlwind, exhilarating few months which culminated in her success in the national finals of the 2023 WEMA Bank Hackaholics.

(L-R): Mrs. Binta Gali Agbonika (Manager, Collective Lab, Nile), Dr. Modupe Fausat  Aleshinloye (Dean, Student Services, Nile), Prof. Dilli Dogo (Vice-Chancellor, Nile), Ms.  Tochukwu Ifeanyi (Founder, Outsidee/ Software Engineering Student, Nile), Mr. Gerald  Osugo (Chief Marketing Officer, Nile), Dr. Umar Ibrahim (Officer, Collective Lab/Software  Engineering Lecturer, Nile)

Between May (the month of the competition’s regional finals) and October 2023 (when the national finals was held), Tochi underwent a steep learning curve and accelerated growth that few ever experience in life, never mind the university. From a student filled with self-doubt who  “didn’t even know what B2B or Blockchain was,” Tochi was transformed into a proficient and confident (tech) entrepreneur capable of effectively selling her ideas and holding her own in any business conversation.

The journey, for Tochi, was life-changing – its impact extending far beyond the acquisition of entrepreneurial skills to other areas of her life. Specifically, she credited it for her improved self-

confidence and mental resilience. “From then [since winning the regional finals in May 2023] till now, I don’t doubt myself anymore. That [victory] was enough to pull me through anything.

“When I go somewhere or do something that doesn’t work out, I tell myself that maybe these are not the right people for my solution and I need to build something different [more relevant for them] or go somewhere else. It doesn’t mean that what I did is not good. The last thing I do is doubt myself,” she said.

Tochi attributed her transformational growth to Nile University’s Collective Lab. “The Collective  Lab has been a big part of my success story. It’s been my backbone. I go there every day… Once I  know I’m not rushing anywhere after school, you’ll see me there. Even if it’s just to tell Dr. Umar [Ibrahim, Collective Lab Officer/Software Engineering Lecturer] hi or talk about one or two things with him. I barely make decisions about Outsidee without consulting them [Mrs. Binta and Dr. Umar] because I know they know best.

“They helped me find the team that put Outsidee together. Efe [a recent Nile graduate] helped me with my UI design, Dami [another, now former, Nile student] helped me do my logo… I met both of them at the Collective Lab and we’ve become very good friends. It’s [the Collective Lab] my root and I always go back [for guidance]. Because of the Collective Lab, I’m always confident that whatever I face or don’t know, I have people to call that can help me out; I’m not alone,”  Tochi stated.

Tochukwu Ifeanyi (front), Efemena Onovre (Left), Chimdalu Onwualu (Right), Utibe Enobong Usiere (Back)

Watching and listening to Tochi excitedly narrate her story, while oozing such confidence and infectious enthusiasm, it was difficult to imagine her being the same person who was once (not too long ago) filled with self-doubt and unhappiness. That she was able to achieve such a swift and remarkable turnaround in her fortunes is a testament to the transformative power of determination.

“I believe that most of the change [we seek] starts from within, then your environment aligns with it,” Tochi stated. True to form, her environment did respond, providing her with the most unusual of “therapists.”

  • How Asia Is Set to Become a Football Region Soon

Football is the world’s most popular sport, particularly, in Europe and South America. It has a worldwide presence, especially since you can find a pitch almost anywhere. Despite this popularity, Asia is not the most powerful football region in the world even though its population is sizably bigger than the rest of the world.

Thankfully, recent signs have shown that Asia has taken a liking to football. Countries like South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and many more have shown that they are big fans of the sport and are doing their best to become competitive against the toughest teams.

Asian countries are bolstering their youth systems and football leagues to keep up with the rest of the world. Their own leagues have become top-tier markets for BTC gambling in online sportsbooks. Let’s take a look at what Asian countries are doing to cement their status as a football-loving continent just like South America and Europe.

Asian footballers are inspiring the youth

Despite the lack of popularity of football in Asia in the past, there are a few standouts that have bucked the trend. Asian footballers like Son Heung-min and Takumi Minamino have become worldwide stars and have left an indelible mark. The youth hold them in high esteem which has left these kids to follow their dreams.

Football was mostly seen as a sport for the people in the West but it has already taken over many Asian countries. Son has had a cultural impact on South Korea as he is seen as a hero by their citizens.

Son is not the only star from his country because before he even played for any senior squad, Park Ji-sung was the icon for his generation. There were only a few players in the past but nowadays, there is a plethora of Asians in football.

Football continues to get media attention in Asia

While certain Asian players will be important when it comes to proving that the continent can produce talented players, the overall coverage of football makes the youth want to play. Watching leagues like the Premier League or La Liga is a strong reason why the sport has become so popular.

Superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have transcended borders and have become two of the most popular football players in the world. They are primarily known as footballers and with the ‘cool aura’ that they give off, more people become interested in what they do. This has led to Asian countries having their own leagues like the Chinese Super League or the J1 League in Japan.

The youth are more aware of different sports now

The youth has the internet to use for entertainment and to follow their interests. In the past, the youth was only restricted to what they could see on television. Now, they have the internet as a wider lens to look into which has led to them seeing how football is played and what leagues they can watch through the internet.

It has unlocked a new facet of the sports world as they can regularly watch football matches through live streaming sites. They can watch a highlight reel from a footballer like Son or Messi through video-sharing sites like YouTube or social media platforms like Facebook. This kind of variety has widened people’s eyes towards sports, especially in Asia with football.

Asian football will get its own spotlight in the future

Park, Son, Minamino, and the current crop of Asian footballers are just the beginning because Asian football is primed to become the biggest football region worldwide. They are ready to take over the competitive aspect soon but in the meantime, you should do BTC gambling for yourself with these Asian leagues and other competitions like the Premier League.

How much can you confidently say you know about Guinness Smooth? Not Guinness. Guinness Smooth. You’re probably thinking about the most common answer. Say it. Don’t be shy. That’s right, Guinness Smooth is simply smooth. If you’re anything like some of the current Big Brother Naija season 7 housemates, who just got introduced to the magic of Guinness Smooth, then this article is for you.

On the 25th of August, 2022, Guinness Smooth visited the Big Brother season 7 housemates to acquaint them with the Guinness Smooth product in the form of a task. Who knew learning could be so much fun?

This task was divided into four phases flowing smoothly into each other. Through this task, Guinness Smooth was able to immerse the housemates and viewers of the show and well-wishers in the Guinness Smooth experience. It was fun, and easygoing, and successfully brought out the creativity and unique expression of the housemate’s Guinness Smooth experience.

Guinness Smooth put the housemates through a series of activities including a jigsaw puzzle, ball pit charade, beer pong and the Smooth Space Pitch. “Team Vibe”, “Team Easy”, and “Team Silk” gave it their best but in the end, there could only be one winner.

Guinness Smooth identified the need to take bonds formed in the Big Brother house to the next level by creating tribes. In the last phase of this task, the smooth space pitch identified the natural habitats of these tribes, including a beach, House party, fashion fiesta and a concert.

The concert was the smooth space chosen by Phyna, Bryann, Chiomzy, Rachel & Dotun of “Team Smooth”, who came out victorious amongst their peers with the easy-going, smooth-flowing song to match their vibe.

With this, Guinness welcomed the housemates to the brighter side of life. Want to join the brighter side, follow @guinnessngr on Instagram. Let your first sip be smooth!

In recent times, the latest buzzword in our country has become the inimitable ‘Japa’. It signifies an unstoppable ambition by our youths to leave Nigeria by any means possible to distant lands as their only hope and means for survival for a better life. Tales and wishes of ‘Japa’ to distant lands flood timelines on social media and dominate conversations by young people who can contribute their intellectual quota to the sustainable development of our nation. While many have jubilated on social media as they bid Nigeria goodbye, IHS Nigeria is doing its best to reverse the trend by giving youths at home the hope to soldier on despite the seemingly real or imaginary odds stacked against them.

IHS Nigeria is committed to the sustainable prosperity of individuals and host communities to ensure economies thrive. This has informed the establishment of Project Empower to ensure our young people are better skilled and more resourceful to further their dreams of a better life. In ensuring we do not lose our very best, Project Empower is pooling the best of minds together, seasoned men and women with remarkable business and industry accomplishments across ten industries in Nigeria to mentor, skill and help scale businesses and business ideas of over 500 young entrepreneurs at various stages of their entrepreneurial growth.

These mentors and mentees will be matched based on select criteria by the Project Empower Team for optimum engagement. • Keeping up with the “Level Up” housemates

From ‘Double wahala’ in 2018 to ‘Shine ya eye’ in 2021, BBNaija housemates have consistently fed viewers with the best peppered sauce on reality TV. What typically starts with drama in the house, cooked from failed relationships, betrayal, and a clash of egos, culminates in amazing friendships and long lasting feuds outside the House – all fueled by the highly invested fanbase.

Although still in its early stages, the 2022 ‘Level up’ experience looks to be equally exciting as previous seasons, as housemates continue to surprise fans of Africa’s most popular TV reality show! Check out the highlights from the past month below!

    New season, new twists!

This season took on a new twist from prior seasons. A total of 24 housemates were admitted and divided into two houses (Level 1&2), which fans on #TwitterNaija dubbed “Island & Trenches”.

@mosvinbami seemed to enjoy all the drama both houses offered.

The “Tail of House” title was also given to the least performing housemate during the Head of House games, which Phyna “won” twice in a row. Impressive!

    Love trapeziums and sailing/sinking ‘ships’

Among the reasons fans on #TwitterNaija love the reality show are the relationship dynamics that are always at play. Many fans pointed out how quickly housemates fell in love and the lengths they go to protect said love; sometimes to the point of forfeiting the grand prize.

Did you see what Beauty did because of Groovy? Some fans thought it went too far.

Meanwhile, other fans thought Groovy was too quick to move on from Beauty with Phyna.

So far, the longest ‘ship’ is what Bella and Sheggzy have got going. Well, that ‘ship’ has also been hitting some icebergs recently. Folks on #TwitterNaija believe Sheggzy has been acting up since Bella showed interest in him.

Side note: the ‘ship’ that is becoming popular lately is that of Hermes and Allysyn, but let’s see how far this can sail!

    The elite fake housemate game!

Ok, BBN introduced more twists this year! This time, fake housemates have been sent on a mission to sink ships! Chizzy, especially, has been a crowd pleaser as he’s mastered the art of deception and seems to derive pleasure in carrying out Biggie’s secret tasks.

In a recent twist, Modella was evicted from the house and left the housemates stunned after they realised she was a fake housemate. What they don’t know is that there are two others who are set to cause even more trouble in the house.

    https://twitter.com/prudenceovlagos/status/1563966078862200834?s=20&t=oCIHVvrDzIX-lRc1_C9QvQ

    BBN’s earliest disqualification

Former beauty queen, Beauty got #TwitterNaija in a frenzy over repeated displays of aggressive behaviour which earned her three strikes, leading to an early disqualification. This is the earliest disqualification a housemate has received, with just 14 days in the house.

Remember the ‘situationship’ with Groovy? Fans on Twitter thought that might’ve contributed to Beauty losing focus.

    When Island meets Trenches

For more drama and plot twists, Big Brother decided to merge the level 1 and 2 housemates into one house. So, we no longer have the housemates divided into ‘island’ and ‘trenches.’ #TwitterNaija was excited as this adds new twists and allows for more drama. Now the real games begin!

    Surprise eviction

With six nominations, Amaka became the eighth housemate to be evicted from the game, missing out on a chance to compete for the coveted grand prize of N100 million. This was a surprise twist from Biggie, as he called the housemates for immediate eviction nominations, and Amaka was the victim.

As her eviction was announced she mumbled “I knew it, I knew it,” as though she was expecting it. Well, Daniel Regha has a ‘theory’.

  • Insights Into Prime Video’s New Original “Rings of Power”

Prime Video is releasing a new series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic “The Lord of the Rings.” The epic trilogy takes place more than a thousand years before the events depicted in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, which took place in the Third Age of Middle-earth.

The show opens in an era of tranquillity and follows an ensemble cast as they confront the long-feared return of evil to Middle-earth. The kingdoms and personas from this new series will leave behind legacies that will survive far beyond their passing, from the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the magnificent woodlands of the elven kingdom of Lindon, to the exquisite island realm of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the world.

The Second Age begins after the War of Wrath (the most catastrophic war in Middle-earth history), which brings the First Age to an end. In it, the Valar, a pantheon of lower gods who rule over Middle-earth and serve Iluvatar, the “real” God in Tolkien’s universe, led a massive army against Morgoth, the first Dark Lord and the most powerful of these lesser gods. The War of Wrath involved dragons, eagles, Balrogs, Elves, mankind, Valar, and dwarves. The fierceness of the battles had changed the landscape, Morgoth was defeated and imprisoned in the “Void,” where he could no longer cause harm to anybody. Parts of the world were submerged under the sea, the Valar and the majority of the Elves had isolated themselves in the West on a different continent, and it was a new beginning.

The Second Age lasts around 3,500 years and ends with the War of the Last Alliance, depicted at the start of The Fellowship of the Ring film, in which Isildur destroys Sauron by cutting the One Ring from his finger.

The initial trailer begins with a view of a stunning, opulent city by the water,  the island kingdom of Númenor. A young girl’s voice can be heard speaking, “Haven’t you ever wondered,” the young woman’s voice asks us, “what else is out there?” A reminder that the series will explore previously untold tales from Tolkien’s universe.

“Before the Ring” comes up, which tells us that the story will begin before the One Ring was forged. We will actually encounter Aragorn’s ancestor and One Ring thief, Isildur, during the course of the show’s five anticipated seasons, which will significantly condense the Second Age’s tens of thousands of years of history. He wouldn’t be born until many thousand years from now if we followed Tolkien’s timeline! This accelerated timeline makes it highly probable that the Rings, or at least some of them, will be forged before the end of season one.

Within just a few days till the launch, a new teaser was unveiled for Rings of Power focused on Galadriel’s quest and her conviction that evil is going to resurface. Galadriel enlists the aid of other warriors in her fight. She can be seen imploring with Elendil, Halbrand, Elrond, and others to join the battle in the trailer. She responds, “Without it, what am I to be,” as Elrond urges her to lay down her sword. We also see Gil-galad, Mriel, and Isildur rallying the people of Middle-earth to the cause of battling evil.

The epic series recounts Galadriel’s journey to being as the wise ruler of Lothlorien and will go into further detail about how she impacted people’s lives throughout Middle-earth, especially those of humans like Halbrand.

“Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power starts on Prime Video on September 2nd, 2022.

  • Great Ideas for a Research Project on Celebrities

Since time immemorial, people that made names for themselves in the public sphere have either been worshipped, loathed or deemed heroes. But most of all—scrutinized. After all, with vast influence and exposure comes great responsibility.

Think controversial Egyptian queen Cleopatra or 20th century prima donna Maria Callas. In the modern day, the roles that people like Callas represent are fulfilled by celebrities like the Kardashians, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, and even politicians.

These famous personalities are known to have given up the chance for a ‘normal life’. However, it is not as if they sign up as public figures without knowing the consequences of it. Obviously, they are aware that choosing the limelight as superstars constitutes a lifelong lack of privacy; and so they try their best to keep their sanity by staying indoors when work hours are over.

This serves to amplify the celebrity’s ‘mystery factor’ and pushes people to become even more intrigued, to try to find out what goes on behind the curtains, and this becomes a major factor to drive media consumption in the press. No wonder being mysterious is used as a strategic move to make an up and coming celebrity become even more famous(—and it works!) As a result, they become the subject of various, intensive research projects. This article is one such, except it will focus on suggesting ideas for a project that will further help dissect the culture and mechanics of celebrity life.

However, no matter how important or exciting your research is, sometimes it can be pretty challenging. If you feel that this task takes too much time and energy, you can delegate part of it to professional writers. Luckily, there are many ways to do it nowadays. The easiest one is to try this research paper writing service available online. By collaborating with this company, you create top-notch research that will bring you the highest grade. But most importantly, you will learn something new and avoid study-related stress. Isn’t it great?

When it comes to research, you might be excited by its topic. However, you also might be scared by its complexity. Sometimes, students have no idea how to approach such an extraordinary task as a research project on celebrities. If you are in a similar situation, don’t worry! Below, you can find some great ideas on how to complete this assignment. Keep reading!

    Local celebrities

If you don’t know what kind of famous people you can analyze, think about your local community. For sure, in every town, even the smallest one, there are famous individuals. And oftentimes, their life stories are very interesting! So you can create a project on a celebrity who was born in your area. What’s more, if their relatives are still living in your town or village, you can interview them. It would be great to add your own photos of a celebrity’s birthplace or their school. Note that a research paper on a famous local resident can teach you about the history of your own town.

    People you like

If you don’t know what celebrity to choose for your project, the most obvious thing to do is to pick a famous person you admire. Besides, you can research someone to whose life you can relate somehow. For example, if you struggle with a learning disability, you can find out what celebrities have overcome the same challenges. There must be famous people who share something in common with you, even if it’s dyslexia or ADHD. If you love sports, like baseball or football, you can do a research project about a famous athlete. Believe it or not, a common passion or challenge can make it more fun to learn about a famous person.

    A list of celebrities

If you can’t decide on one particular person to research, why not put together a list of celebrities who have something in common? The criteria shouldn’t necessarily be something serious. For example, you may pick such a common thread as  “famous people who have blonde hair” or “celebrities who experimented with tattoos.” You can compile your list in an unusual format that makes sense for your particular subject. To make it look more interesting, create a slideshow with nice photos and design.

    A few more research ideas:

    ● The Question on Celebrities Becoming Irrelevant (Do they really?)

    ● The ‘Child Star Curse’ (Why do most child celebrities fail to ‘grow up’ in the eyes of the audience, and thus become irrelevant in mainstream media overtime?)

Cameron Debenham is writer, academic expert and researcher. He works mainly for students, helping them get enrolled in top US institutions. Cameron is also a big fan of celebrities, which is the reason why he focuses his research around them.

  • 6 Nigerians Share Their Experience Getting STD Tests

Do you regularly get STD tests? Or have you never gotten one at all? It can be nerve-racking going to get tested, but equally important for your overall well-being. You know, it’s better to be safe and sure than sorry especially if you have multiple sexual partners. For this article, 6 Nigerians Share With Us Their Experience Getting STD tests.

    Jane, 25, F

The first time I got an STD test was in 2018. Before then, I’d had a steady partner so never felt the need to get one. When the relationship ended, I started hooking up with people without knowing their sexual histories. One day, my friend was talking about getting a routine check-up done and mentioned that it included STD testing. That’s when it occurred to me how irresponsible I’d been, and how I needed one too. After that initial test, I made STD testing a regular thing.

    Paul, 27, M

My girlfriend cheated on me in 2017, and the only reason I found out was that she got an STD and gave it to me. I didn’t even want to get a test at first because she told me she had an STD and that automatically means I have one too, but I got the test done anyway. Got a comprehensive STD test to catch anything she might have missed in her own testing. It was pretty straightforward and efficient. I went to pick up my results the next day. Since then, I made STD testing a regular part of my health routine. You can never be too sure.

    Abike, 31, F

I have been getting tested regularly since I was 21 years old. My biggest problem with getting STD tests is that some of the hospital staff can be very judgemental. Sometimes, they make snide comments about how sexually reckless I am to require a test, or that abstinence would prevent the need for a test in the first place.I moved around a lot, so I constantly changed hospitals, which means I was exposed to a lot of rubbish. When I settled down, I found a hospital a bit far from where I live but closer to my best friend’s house. The staff there are very professional and I’ve been getting tests there twice a year for over three years now.

    Olu, 27, M

My partner and I both decided it was in our best interest to test for STDs before “getting physical.” The tests went well. I got my result in minutes, and the hospital also emailed them to me for reference. I had insurance, so it was affordable and I do it regularly. I also got the rapid test kit to test myself at home occasionally, but I go to the hospital for the complete package.

    Sandra, 26, F

When I started dating my boyfriend, he insisted on us getting tested before becoming exclusive. So, we went together to get the test done. The hospital kept treating us as a couple and that was a small problem for me. It’s been four years, and he still insists we get it done at least once a year, which I think is a really good practice. It’s quick and we get it done with our usual medical checkup so I don’t mind.

    Cynthia, 21, F

I got my first STD test because I was sexually assaulted. I wanted to get the 72 hour PEP drug (Post Exposure Prophylaxis), but a test was done first. It was a fast test. It involved them collecting my blood and delivering my results not long after. I was asked to return in 3 months for another test because that’s the incubation time for some STDs, but I never got retested. Partly because of laziness and the fact that my parents didn’t take it seriously. They believed that because I’d already taken the drug, I didn’t need another test.

  • 5 Ways to Hide Your Wealth from Family and Friends

Are you scared of family and friends blowing up your phone with calls and billing you for every little thing? What you need is a way to keep knowledge of your wealth away from them.

These five tips should do the trick.

    1. Make “God when” your motto

If you see anything like an expensive car, don’t make the mistake of opening your mouth to say you can afford it. Simply shout “God when” in your most pitiable voice.

If you buy a wig of 85k, tell them you bought it 10k, because next thing you know, you’re buying bags of rice and paying the school fees of five extended relatives.

    4. Ask them for urgent 2k

How can they have the heart to ask you for money when you yourself are in need of urgent 2k? Asides urgent 2k, ask them to send airtime and data to complete the help-my-life act.

  • #ShareATripwithCoke: Watch As Consumers Get Treated To Free Magical Rides!

As part of the anniversary celebrations in Nigeria, a month-long celebratory campaign commenced this November with activities to excite and delight consumers across the country, most recent of which is the Share A Trip With Coke campaign.

This year, the Coca-Cola System in Nigeria, comprising Coca-Cola and its bottling partner, Nigerian Bottling Company, celebrates its 70th anniversary and for the leading beverage company, such a momentous occasion is an indication of decades of commitment to its consumers and the communities it calls home. It’s no surprise that 70 years after the very first refreshing taste of Coca-Cola was bottled in 1951, the company continues to deliver on its brand promise, driving smiles and inspiring moments of optimism across generations of Nigerians.

The Share A Trip With Coke campaign sought to ultimately share heartwarming and magical experiences with Nigerians across different demographics. Coca-Cola branded buses were on major bus routes in Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, and Port-Harcourt – treating Nigerians to free rides, the refreshing taste of the Coca-Cola beverages, and also an assortment of branded merchandise.

Excited consumers were greeted with a full array of cultural displays which included traditionally dressed hostesses, drummers with their traditional talking drums doling out rhythmic beats and of course, a standard safety checkup entry point. Consumers were thrilled at the scintillating display and in turn, responded with warm smiles and joyous dance routines.

The Coca-Cola System’s anniversary celebration this year tells a vivid story of an illustrious history of cultural connections and shared experiences between the Coca-Cola System and the Nigerian people; a story that embodies how consumer trust goes beyond a bottle of Coca-Cola, down to the very ideals that Coca-Cola represents.

The company’s colourful history of refreshing the world is reiterated in its new global brand philosophy and platform called ‘Real Magic’, which invites everyone to celebrate the real magic of humanity. Real Magic ultimately seeks to unite and uplift everyday people with renewed relevance for the world we live in today.

  • Crowdyvest Re-launches App With New Investment Offers

Crowdyvest Limited, a fast rising Nigerian fintech company which creates an all-encompassing financial solution from savings to investment, has re-launched its mobile app with new investment opportunities.

Currently available on the Apple and Google Playstore, the newly re-launched Crowdyvest mobile app has a very neat user interface which is easy on the eye, with both mobile and desktop versions showing no major difference. The funding process on the app is hassle-free and the app is also very easy to navigate on both desktop and mobile to deliver a seamless and enjoyable experience for its existing and prospective users. Speaking on the revamped mobile app, Tope Omotolani, CEO of Crowdyvest said “We aim to become the platform that helps our members plan and structure their finances through the different range of products we offer.

“As we work with organizations in different sectors to power viable and impact-driven projects through the funds we raise from our members, a symbiotic interdependence is created, leading to financial and economic growth for all. We believe this partnership is needed to foster growth and create more opportunities for Africa.”

The re-launched app has introduced a couple of new financial products which include the Crowdyvest Yield. The old app had only the Vault, pace and flex Savings products, Hyperplan investment product and Crowdyvest Tribe, a platform built on the foundation of community-driven savings and wealth creation, to drive collectivity and foster growth for individuals and businesses but the revamped version has not only included additional products, it has also grouped all Crowdyvest investment offers under one segment known as Crowdyvest Yield.

Crowdyvest Yield is a catalog of alternative offers that include commodity-specific projects and discretionary plans available to members ranging from short to long term tenors across a wide range of sectors. It consists of the HyperPlan – an impact-driven funding opportunity where users/investors can earn as much as 21% returns on investment, Project investment which is an alternative investment and commodity-specific type of offer in different sectors, in partnership with pre-vetted impact partners and many more. You can earn as much as 25% returns on project investments.

This new distinction will provide Crowdyvest users a variety of suitable plans to choose from as they build a savings and investment culture based entirely on their capability with product prices as low as ₦1,000 and returns up to 25% per annum. They also have a wallet that gives up to 3% interest per annum. You can share funds from your Wallet with friends and family who are Crowdyvest members, at no charge at all.

In addition to the upgraded features and newly introduced products of the app, Crowdyvest has partnered with UBA Global Investor Services Limited and Parthian Securities Limited; an investment brokerage firm licensed by the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) to ensure proper fund utilization, transparency and compliance thereby assuring its users of the safety of their funds.

    How It Works

On launching the Crowdyvest app you’re taken straight to the log-in/sign-up page where you’re expected to create a new account as a new user or log-in as a returning one. Once you click on the “create one” option, you’re instructed to choose between creating an individual or business account. The user is then instructed to fill in basic details like name, surname, password, username, email address, phone number, gender, date of birth and in the case of a business account information like business name, business date of birth is also required.

You will then be required to verify your account with a passcode sent to your mail. Once this is done, your Crowdyvest account is ready for use. You will however be instructed to fill in your bank details and create a 6 digit security PIN to carry out any financial transaction. Once you type in the name of your bank and account number, the name attached to that bank account (which is your full name) shows up. Your BVN is also required. This takes less than 5 seconds to be verified by the app. You are then required to create a 6 digit security PIN to complete transactions. Once the PIN is created, a passcode is sent to your mail to authenticate it and you’re now fully ready to use the Crowdyvest mobile app.

    How To Navigate The App

Having done the necessary registrations, the account is now ready for use. On the homepage there is a column on the right of the screen with several icons on how to use the app. It includes: the homepage, portfolio, savings (vault, pace and flex), yields (hyperplan, project, etc.), deals and offers, transactions and profile icons through which new users can easily navigate their way through the app. The entire process takes less than 7 minutes, after which you can begin your journey to financial freedom via a seamless and hassle free online banking experience.

  • 8 People You Should Avoid During Black Friday Sales

It’s mid-November, which means two things; detty December is close by and it’s time for the annual Black Friday sales galore.

This year’s sales are extra special because it’s the first sales we are having post-COVID-19 (well, it’s post-COVID 19 in our minds) so everyone is going all out to shop for things without worrying about lockdowns or its hassles.

As you go about scouting for the best deals, there are certain people you should avoid like a plague, because their bad luck or vibes can affect the deals you may get. We compiled a list of the types of people that you need to hide from right now.

    1. Slackers

These guys cannot be bothered. They don’t understand that Black Friday is a serious business. If you want to get the best deals, avoid them or they will drag you down. These are the ones that will remember Black Friday on November 26 and will ask you to chill till then. My friend, rebuke them all!

    2. The Ever-ready

This set of people are always ready, especially for special deals like those on Jumia. They are logged in on their laptop, tab, and phone at the same time so they can get to the special deal of the day first. So, these people are good on their own, just move far away from them. They are the kinds that find the ₦5,000 iPhone 12 while your internet is loading right beside them.

PS: You would both be using the same internet but their jazz is always on overdrive.

    3. Bulk buyers

Avoid them like you avoid semo. These ones will buy seven shirts in eight colors and not leave anything for everyone else. They are the ones that bought all the Adidas Core Sneakers Grand Court Base at 59% off during the Adidas brand day yesterday and are still looking for more. Why would you want to be friends with a greedy person?

    4. Smart and tricky buyers

These people and the people that reminded teachers of assignments are in the same group. They’ve been planning for this day for months, they know what they want to buy and head straight for that section. They are spending ₦365,78.97 exactly. They are that good.

If you are not serious, you would even help them buy some of the things they want but have not ‘budgeted’ for. If this person is your bae or boo, just accept your fate. It’s also a good thing!

    5. The ‘forgetters’

On the list of people to avoid, these people are the worst. Anytime there is a special deal, they always ‘forget’ to tell you and then come to lament on the big deal they got, when they wanted something even bigger. These ones are the generals in your enemies’ army. We hope you know.

    6. Window Shoppers

These are professional stockers. Their cart is never empty but they always seem to disappear just before it’s time to checkout. Enough said…

    7. Voucher Vultures

These ones have been hoarding vouchers worth hundreds of thousands of naira and best believe they are getting the best deals for next to nothing while you are trying to make sure the number of items in your cart qualifies you for free shipping. They are doing #BigDealMoments, #WhatsYourBigDeal and getting vouchers of up to ₦50,000. (#ICYMI, people are sharing their mishap moments and carting away Jumia vouchers each week)

    8. People who do not believe in Black Friday

These ones no sabi better thing at all. Imagine being able to get the best deals from your favorite brands and not getting into it.Now that you know the people to avoid, you are almost ready for Black Friday. The last step is to head over to Jumia or better still, download the Jumia App to secure the biggest and best deals, you might just be able to purchase an iPhone 12 for only ₦5790. Don’t forget to share with your friends, you don’t want to end up like the people you are avoiding.

  • 5 Coins That Could Pay For Your Detty December

Guys, get in here. We’ve got something to talk about. Believe it or not, December has come. And you know what that means – it’s time to detty everywhere again.

This year, things will be even dettier. COVID did us dirty last December, so there were no shows or events for us to attend. Now that we’re popping again, it’s events back to back. Biz Wiz already announced. Burna Boy already announced. And we’re still waiting for several other A-listers to drop dates – Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Davido, Teni, Rema, Ayra Starr. Omo, KPK!

If you’re out here thinking about how to get the funds you need to attend shows, trust us; you’re not alone. Burna himself said it best – “Dangote still dey find money.”

This year, everyone has been talking mad about crypto. “Buy this coin, buy that coin.” Remember back in April when everything dipped and we were all dragging crypto people on Twitter? Well, the joke’s on everyone else right now. Crypto is back up and all the sinzus are now popping their collars again.

If you’re still new to the whole crypto thing, you don’t have to be afraid. Several coins could easily jump in the next month or two, and you could invest in them right now to get money for your Detty December.

We decided to do some of the research work for you, and we’ve got some interesting coins for you to consider right now:

    1. Wakanda Inu (WKD)

So, this first one is a bit of a newbie. But hey, if everyone can have a meme coin, Africans can get one too!Wakanda Inu is a cryptocurrency that launched a few weeks ago. Even at that, at some point last week its price increased by over 700%. If you missed the gains that DOGE and Shiba Inu (SHIB) gave investors, then you would want to get in on this one.

Cryptocurrency exchange Quidax is currently giving out 200 Billion Wakanda Inu. You can get info about the airdrop here.

    2. Bitcoin (BTC)

Bitcoin is the daddy of cryptocurrencies. It was the first coin to be launched, and it’s still the most popular today. This year alone, Bitcoin’s price has grown by 109.4%. So, if you had put some cash into Bitcoin at the start of the year and chilled till now, you’d be sitting on a big stack of cash.

Bitcoin has been doing some big numbers lately too. Plus, the fact that it’s the most popular cryptocurrency means that it offers the most safety. Bitcoin has a history of making big moves towards the end of the year, so we’re expecting something hooge soon.

    3. Dogecoin (DOGE)

DOGE is what we call a meme coin. It doesn’t really have a use, but a lot of people on social media love it. And it has caught on since then. This year, DOGE’s price has increased by over 4,000%.

It’s still making a lot of people rich, and you could invest in it to get some gains in December.

    4. Shiba Inu (SHIB)

If you’ve got your ears to the ground recently, you must have heard of SHIB. Crypto people have been shouting about it like it’s the best thing since sliced bread. But what if it actually is?

This year, SHIB’s price has increased by over 10,000%. So if you put just #10,000 into SHIB at the start of the year, you’d probably be rubbing shoulders with Tony Elumelu right now. But, it’s not too late. SHIB may still have a long way to go.

    5. Binance Coin (BNB)

BNB is a cryptocurrency launched by Binance. We’re especially big on BNB because of how well it has performed this year. BNB’s price has jumped by 1,435% this year, meaning that it has made a lot of people rich for sure. Watch out for this one.

So, Where Do I Buy These Coins?

If you’d like to get your Detty December funds sorted, we recommend choosing a trusted exchange that won’t give you any problems. Like Wizkid said, we all want No Stress.

You can check out a cryptocurrency exchange like Quidax. You can buy all the cryptos we have mentioned in this article on Quidax.

Disclaimer: The information in this post shouldn’t be taken as investment advice. Cryptocurrencies are great investments, but we recommend that you do your research before buying any crypto.

  • Stanbic IBTC Encourages Investors With Zero Balance Stock Trading Entry Requirement

Investments in stocks are usually for the long term. It is a financial strategy capable of building generational wealth as it yields returns for investors whilst providing them with financial security. The profitability of this investment type is hinged on its ability to compound returns over time.

Despite the profitability potential of this market for investors and the Nigerian economy, the capital market requirements in the past have somewhat discouraged a lot of new and younger investors. It is agreed that High Networth Individuals with large portfolios generally dominate the stock market. Still, in recent times there has been an increasing need to attract millennials. This desire within the capital market to include and accommodate new and young investors is centred around the growing millennial population and the need to build the nation’s wealth. Also, the rapid rise of digitisation in Nigeria has influenced a change in the stock market outlook and requirements, especially in terms of its volume and minimum entry requirement. The digitisation of the capital market will enhance the potential to attract a new generation of investors.

Stockbrokers have begun to explore ways of lifting barriers to participation in the capital market, thereby making trading in stocks more appealing. To facilitate this development and enable potential investors access this investment opportunity, Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers has removed the minimum account opening balance for investors to operate a stockbroking account, especially in the wake of the performance of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) in 2020 and renewed global interest in security investments.

The stockbroking subsidiary also reduced the 1% brokerage fees previously charged by 30%, making it even cheaper to invest through its online channels. As a digital-savvy financial provider, Stanbic IBTC has leveraged technology to provide an all-inclusive stock trading platform that can be seamlessly navigated.

More people are now seeking practical and convenient platforms to monitor and operate their stockbroking portfolios when conducting their share trading activities. Through the Stanbic IBTC Stockbroking App, investors can be sure of an easy and secure trading environment. In addition, investors can access investment opportunities and market trend information to guide their investment decisions.

This further reiterates the efforts of Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers, Nigeria’s largest stockbroking firm, to accommodate these potential and ambitious investors, with a market share of over 10 per cent of the value of shares traded on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) to boost the capital market industry.

The Stanbic IBTC Stockbroking zero account opening balance removes the limitations restricting millennials, Gen-Zs and other interested investors from participating, thereby facilitating growth in the capital market. This is all in the bid to help them secure and preserve their financial future. Investors can make stock trading transactions via the self-service options available on the ‘Stocks’ module on the Stanbic IBTC Mobile App and the e-Trade portal on the Stanbic IBTC Stockbroking website.

  • Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers Spearheads Empowerment And Development For Nigerian Women

Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers, a subsidiary of Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC, recently held a webinar aimed at encouraging women empowerment and development in Nigeria.

The event themed LATTES (Ladies At the Table Empowerment Series) was designed to furnish women with the required information to enable them to succeed in their businesses, careers, relationships and homes.

The inaugural LATTES session themed: ‘Balancing Career Success, and Personal Wellness’ featured a Human Resource expert as well as a wellness specialist who shared tips on work-life balance and healthy living respectively.

The Executive Director, Business Development at Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers, Nike Bajomo stated that Stanbic IBTC has always been at the vanguard of women empowerment.

She said: “We believe that there are opportunities for every woman to thrive and blossom, and as such, we consistently create avenues to help women make the most of these opportunities. At Stanbic IBTC, empowering women remains a core priority for us. The pandemic particularly impacted women as many of us had to balance our natural roles as nurturers with showing up every day at our jobs with our A-game intact while dealing with all the challenges that came with the new normal. We, therefore, are hoping that LATTES will be an avenue to help women bounce back quicker and continue to thrive well after the pandemic is completely behind us.”

LATTES featured Tolulope Agiri, the Group Chief Human Resources Officer for Interswitch and Sherese Ijewere, the Founder of Carib Health Limited. They both shared insights and experiences with participants on how women can balance work and wellness in their chosen field.

Tolulope opined that lots of women find it hard to create time for themselves and mostly play the role of caregivers while altering career paths. Sighting the pandemic as an example, She went further to explain how women struggled to keep their homes and their jobs amid the covid19 pandemic.

In her remark, Tolulope said “it is of paramount importance to set aside time for family and dedicate a portion of that time for self-care and personal development. While no one has it all, a strong support system that ensures women thrive at home and work cannot be overemphasised. A support system is critical to your growth and mental wellness as it helps create work-life balance.” She advised women to make demands that will make their jobs easier in their respective places of work and urged them to aim for leadership positions and work synergistically with their employers to make work-life balance a reality.

Sherese Ijewere spoke on how women can incorporate wellness into their day-to-day lives, stating that maintaining a healthy lifestyle contributes to a successful life. She added that an imbalance in self-care could instigate unwanted illnesses. She admonished women to take care of themselves through a deliberate practice of selfcare resulting in higher productivity levels, reducing fatigue and enabling them to take care of others.
