If you have been thinking of getting serious with your makeup skills and are in need of some advice, here are seven tips from Nigerian women.

1) Practice

It might look like shit when you start, but do not let that stop you. Just keep practicing and taking pictures of your progress because you will get it eventually.

2) One step at a time

Before you start attempting full-face beats, why not divide and conquer? Eyebrows today, foundation tomorrow, etc. That way, you master one before you move on and it does not get overwhelming.

3) Videos

Watch as many videos as possible of people doing makeup. Youtubers, beauty influencers, whoever. Just watch and learn.

4) Texture

Texture exists, and your face has it. So, do not be ashamed when you try for the first time and your face shows texture. Also, real-life makeup does not always look like it does in the picture. Pictures contain a lot of editing, so let that guide how you critic yourself.

5) Clean your makeup brushes regularly

Unclean makeup brushes can lead to things like acne and skin irritation. Clean your makeup brushes or your skin will fight you, and it will win.

7) Leave your eyebrows alone

5 Things That Simple Makeup Tutorial Will Not Tell You

The youtube makeup tutorial will most likely make everything seem effortless. Let me save you some future heartache, stress and disappointment and tell you right away that it is not true. It will be a struggle. Just like the cute youtube work out routines, the simple makeup tutorials are far from simple.

1. The eyeliner will disgrace you.

Even when you draw one eye right, the other eye will be there to remind you that it was pure luck and not any expertise that you mastered in 5 minutes and so be humble.

2. The foundation will not sit pretty.

You see how the youtuber dabs on her foundation and suddenly her skin becomes a clean and clear canvass? Your case will most likely be different. Mostly because you probably forgot to prime your face first.

3. The eye shadow will refuse to collaborate.

Because like eyeliner, eye shadow is very tricky. It looks simple enough but when you start applying it everything suddenly starts shifting position. And if you have hooded eyes, the battle becomes of the Lord.

4. Getting the Ombre lipstick application is a battle.

One that you will most likely not win even by the 5th application. This is not a prophesy of doom, more like a prediction of failure. There’s a difference.
