  • These Signs Show Your Co-Worker Is About to Resign

It’s January AKA the month when more 9-5ers than usual quit their jobs because they’re ringing in the new year with a new branch of capitalism job.

This affects you as a co-worker because you’re stuck doing their work till your employer finds a replacement, if they ever do. Plan ahead by recognising these signs.

    They’re unnecessarily hyper for January

TBH, the only way someone can be excited about returning to work after the holidays is if they have something exciting to look forward to. In this case, a better job. Look at that overly excited colleague with new eyes today.

    They complain less

Suddenly, they no longer join you to gossip about your annoying boss and work wahala. It means they’re already one leg out. Be alert.

You start seeing them on social media

Everyone and their grandmother knows one of the first rules of the co-worker code is to block your co-workers on social media so you can rant about them in peace. Once you start seeing them on social media, it means they no longer see you as a threat AKA you’re no longer a co-worker.

Their social media posts are sus

They start dropping posts like, “Excited about what the next few months hold”. Do you really need another clue?

    They ask about payslips

Who cares about tax deductions and all that math if it’s not that some other HR officer is asking for it so they can decide their benefits?

    They miss meetings

Why would they care about meetings when the only thing on their mind is how to start orientation at their new company?

They go on leave or suddenly become sick

They want to enjoy as much time off as possible before resuming at their new job. If you doubt me, ask yourself how many people resign immediately after returning from leave, and you have your answer.

  • Photos: The Star Radler Brunch Party Was A Vibe — Your Favs Definitely Attended

The sprawling park-like view of Cilantro, Lagos was abuzz on Sunday as your favourite celebrities brought some tropical zest to the party zone. A tango of food and the flavoured beer, the Star Radler Brunch Party was the perfect “staycation” awash with the island vibes. The exotic sight turned out to be a collage of Caribbean-inspired decor and brightly-dressed favourite celebrities in their best dress-down looks.

This year, Star Radler has continued the trend by creating an experience that is hard to forget. Here are some of the hottest fashion cues from attendees at the Star Radler Brunch Party in Lagos.

    The perfect shade

Sunscreens can never take the place of snazzy sunglasses in the midday sun. You can nail that chic sophistication with just the right bright-coloured frames like Quick Steph and Sunky’s sunglasses.

    Dress the part

Who says you cannot mix & match at Tropical-themed parties? To get the show-stopper look, try some fruit and vegetables print, animal or ocean print, t-shirt, trousers or halter-neck dress and other bright coloured outfits with minimal details. Pair up the clothes with some flip-flops, wedges, sandals or transparent slippers like Tolani Baj, Bizzle Osikoya, Akubeze Okocha, Ifeanyi Nwune and more.

    The Cuban vibe

Pay no attention to those who call it the tourist look. BBNaija star Elozonam conveniently nailed this look with a bold coloured short-sleeved shirt to create a contrast with a pair of bubble-gum pink trousers. You can get any fashion police’s nod by simply pairing a playful tropical print with a blazer or suit with beige, navy, grey colours to land that bespoke look. Peep Reekado’s take on the look!

    Keep it short

That’s one advice that works all the time for awardees during their acceptance speeches. It will also work some wonders if taken as a serious tip for that catchy Tropical look. Be it male or female, every guest can get that enchanting look with beige or ankara or floral shorts, allowing long silky legs or muscular ones to get admired.

    A flash here and there

Urban peeps know how to slay with styles without revealing too much. You can get a crop top like Quick Steph’s (if you’ve got the well-toned abs) or a racer-back tank or a deep-plunge neckline to show off.

The brunch party, birthed and executed by the Star Radler team, was attended by several celebrities and friends of the brand. The brand manager, Onyebuchi Nwangwu, stated: We created and executed this party to engage with our TA; we want to have fun and party with you while keeping our promise of continually offering you twice the refreshment.

The Brunch Party lasted for 6 hours, with guests trooping in and out of the venue. The Star Radler brunch will be held periodically and in different cities. Check out @star_radler regularly for updates on the next brunch party location

  • #BumpThis: Mayorkun’s “Geng” & Jamal Swiss’ “Lifestyle”

There’s so much new music being released that it’s hard for even the most loyal fans to wade through the trash to find the gems. That’s why we’ve created #BumpThis – a Friday series that features new songs, by and featuring Nigerians, that you absolutely need to hear.

    Mayorkun — “Geng”

Mayorkun is one of the most gifted afropop stars working today, and every new song reaffirms that fact. For his first release of the year, “Geng”, he proves that he’s even capable of turning a freestyle into a certified bop.

On “Geng”, Mayorkun seems to be having more fun than he’s ever had on a track, as he calls out posers and brags about his crew. It’s an exciting start for DMW’s not-so-secret weapon, prepping us for what’s to come.

Jamal Swiss — “Lifestyle” ft. Remy Baggins

A criminally underrated star, Jamal Swiss is yet to drop a weak song. For his first release of 2020, he keeps that same energy, enlisting the silky-voiced Remy Baggins for the hypnotic “Lifestyle”.

On the Jay Blakez-produced track, Jamal raps about the allure of his party-hopping lifestyle. A perfect fit for the track, the talented Remy delivers a killer hook that effortlessly complements Jamal’s solid verses.

  • 10 Ways To Make Money As A Student In Nigeria

Money is important in all spheres of life, even more so as a student in a Nigerian university, where everything is designed to suck your finances away; from small proportions of food to buying handouts or having a dating life. Having extra cash as a student can be a lifesaver, especially when it comes in consistently, alongside your allowances.

Here are 10 ways to make money legitimately as a student in Nigeria:

    1) Become a makeup artist:

Some people need training while other are naturals when it comes to makeup artistry. Figure out which one you are and get started. Word of mouth is the best way to get customers as a makeup artist, and a great face beat, of course. You can partner up with photographers; making up for their shoots.

    2) Sell clothes:

Shirts, jeans, skirts, bedsheets, any clothing item really. This is a great way to get quick cash. Go to a market, buy clothes in bulk, sell them off for really low prices but ensure you get your money immediately because you really don’t want to be going around school looking for your debtors.

    3) Freelance writing:

This should work if you love writing and can balance meeting deadlines with school work. Try not to take on too many writing projects so you don’t get overwhelmed; losing a grip on school and work at the same time. Sign up to platforms like Upwork, Fiverr; offer to ghostwrite for someone for a fee or just become a contributor for blogs. There are many Nigerian companies willing to hire a student writer, if you pitch yourself well.

    4) Take up photography:

We all love to freeze some memories in time and what’s the best way to make money than being the go-to person for such services? Get a camera, start small–it doesn’t have to be a DSLR– and offer your skill for seeing the details that everyone misses. Matriculation and convocation periods are the best times to make money. Oh, and birthdays too, some people LOVE to celebrate every birthday with a studio session, even if there’s no cake; take advantage of that.

    5) Do tutorials:

So you’re an efiwe (bookworm) who remembers the methods of numberline from JSS classes and advanced chemistry courses? Well, there’s an opportunity there; become a teacher at a Jamb/Waec tutorial centre or spread the information by word-of-mouth that you are available to guide another student in your university through a difficult course. You’ll be learning and earning as you teach others–best of both worlds

    6) Sew clothes (fashion design):

Got mad tailoring skills? You should utilize your hobby and make cool cash out of it. Again, word-of-mouth advertisement and evidence of your great skill is your best bet for getting clients that are willing to pay.

    7) Help other students with projects:

We all know those students that would rather cut off their arm than lift a finger to do their projects. Offer to help them out for a fee and they’ll run towards you in gratitude and more jobs than you can handle.

    8) Graphic design/Website development:

This will require technical skills that you might have to pay someone to get or take the cheaper and better route of learning –YouTube. Because, odds are, that person teaching you is also checking YouTube for some tutorials. Offer to design or build someone’s website once you’ve garnered enough knowledge about the whole thing. Charge a small fee and go from there.

    9) Online registrations:

Admission period is one of the best times for this. You can help new students navigate the student portal; apply for admission, apply for hostel, check their results and more, for a fee.

    10) Ushering:

Ushering at seminars, workshops, concerts, parties and more for a few hours (or days) gives you access to money, food and a social life without encroaching on your school life and schedule. The flexible hours of ushering makes it easy to balance your work life with school activities

What’s your best thing to do in university to make money? Drop your comment if it didn’t make this list, we’d like to know what it is.

  • If You’re A Nigerian With Annoying Neighbors, This Is For You

Having a good or bad neighbor is not something we give much thought to until we are faced with nasty and annoying neighbors that make us regret our choice of an apartment. Most times, if one is under the constant attack of an unreasonable neighbor it’s hard to imagine that it’s not personal even when it feels that way. However, their mode of operation is a status quo, something they can’t help.

We’ve listed six types of neighbors that make living in harmony and having a tranquil home experience so hard. Chances are, you’re presently living with a troublesome neighbor if you can relate with any of these:

    1) Noisy neighbors:

Their partners, children and even their household items are a source of noise. God help you if your apartment is a floor below theirs; the running feet at odd hours and dragging of furniture will be sure to keep you awake all night. Oh, and they never get tired either, mornings are for shouting matches.

    2) Monitoring spirit:

These ones know when you stepped out; what you wore last Thursday, who came visiting at 9am four days ago and when they left. They know what you had for breakfast and what your favorite snack is because they check your garbage. Sometimes they go beyond your wildest imaginings; snooping around, standing by the wall, peeping into your window, eavesdropping to know what you are up to.

    3) Needy neighbors:

These ones need TLC and they want it any time, so they disturb at odd hours just to air their views; about another neighbor or how they hate the new security rules, the stupid curfew, or anything really. Then they would proceed to ask for salt, garri, seasoning, detergent or pegs and never return it. However, they can be your plug for in-house information if you know how to handle them.

    4) Attackers:

They always time their complaints to the time you are in a hurry to go somewhere. They don’t like how you utilize your parking space which disturbs their car; why do you pay your bills on time? It’s making them look bad. The sound of your heels when you are leaving disturbs them; the way you locked the gate at 1 am on Friday night woke their baby up; even the fragrance of your perfume makes them sneeze, can you please change it?

They are never satisfied. If you are right, wahala; if you are wrong, double wahala.

    5) Advisors:

The ringleaders of the unofficial advisory committee in your neighborhood. They don’t mind their business at all. They are usually in cohorts with the needy neighbor, they feed off each other.

They tell you how to train your kids, speak to your parents, dress well. They also “worry for you”, inquiring about why you always come home so late, or never leave your house; telling you why that meal you ordered in is a waste of money, why the PET bottles in your trash is alarming, why you need to think of your health! And, the way you speak to your boyfriend on the phone (in your apartment) is insensitive, why the number of ladies that come visiting is atrocious.

    6) Crowd lovers:

The footfall in their apartment is crazy. In fact, they never close their doors because of the constancy of their visitors and the daily house parties they have–you’re gonna have to get out of your apartment if you wanna study. They are usually overtly friendly folks who are hard to keep a grudge with yet they remain a nuisance.

Which of these do you find the most annoying?

  • Four Words Nigerians Distrust

There are certain words in Nigeria that automatically get many Nigerians reacting wary when they hear it, almost like it has a different meaning than the original one. This may be because the connotation attached to them are somewhat twisted in the mind of those who react wary.

What are these words, you ask? They are simply; “excuse me”, “hello”, “please” and “thank you”.

I know. It seems really strange.

Until the day you tell a conductor “thank you” and everyone in the bus swerves towards you like…

    Say what?

Or when you want to ask someone for directions, politely saying “excuse me” and they turn towards you like you’ve just insulted the life outta them

Or when you proceed to say hello to the person sitting next to you, or on the same queue, in a public area and they look at you like you are a bag lady about to steal their last gold

How about the time when you actually gist with your servicemen like they are humans and their employers give you a dirty look for what they deem as stooping so low to talk to the help.

There’s also the angle of the servicemen feeling uncomfortable when addressed politely.

If you’ve gotten these reactions countlessly it will dawn on you that you might have to explain why you’re being polite; and “just because it’s proper manners” won’t cut it. Most Nigerians feel you are out to get them when you do the right thing, but that shouldn’t stop you from having good manners.

  • I’m convinced that youth is a thing of the mind; you can be young, yet feel quite old. It all depends on your lifestyle and how you take care of yourself.

Whether you’d like to admit it or not, many things are going to change in your 20s – your body will change and your responsibilities to yourself and others will change. Relationships will grow and die, money stress becomes more real, and your life really becomes your responsibility.

Although this decade can feel like you’re independent and consequence-free, how you spend your 20s will have a massive impact on the rest of your life.

So, I’m going to give you seven highly underrated tips to help you maintain a balanced, inspired life.

    listen love

    Stop eating junk

It’s so unfair, I know. When you can finally afford to eat all the junk you want and not be told off by your parents, you have to stop? Unfortunately, junk food only puts toxins in your body. The older you get, the slower your body can get rid of toxins.

Try to include healthier food into your diet like fruits and vegetables. Looking young even while young takes work.

    Drink more water

In your 20s, it’s very easy for your fluid options to start to range between coffee for energy, soft drinks for refreshment and alcohol for fun. Please don’t do this. Remember the toxins.

Drinking one to two litres of water every day can help maintain your energy levels, improve your mood, prevent headaches, help with weight loss and better your skin. Take care of yourself.

    Exercise regularly

The older you get, the harder it is to exercise. It’s easier shedding that extra Christmas 5kg than it is trying to lose an accumulated 20kg. Trust me, I know. The older you get, the slower your metabolism gets, and the harder you have to work to keep everything together.

You don’t have to pass out at the gym; you just need to incorporate some physical activity into your daily routine. Health is the most important thing.

    Get regular health checks

Taking care of your health at this age cannot be overemphasized. Ít’ll make the rest of your life easier. Always remember to get medical and dental check-ups every once in a while. Your body is fully developed in your 20s, and so are your teeth.

If you’re stuck with the same teeth for the rest of your life, you’re going to want to take care of them early, before repairing years of neglect becomes even more expensive. Same goes for your body.

    Protect yourr skin

The gif above is literally what the sun does to your skin over time, regardless of your race. Your skin is not going to remain supple and wrinkle-free forever – especially if you don’t protect it.

Use sunscreen, moisturise, drink water and mind your business – your glow is going to be insane.

    Read more books

Reading is so essential for growth! It broadens your horizon and helps you think of things from a new perspective. Challenge yourself to read as many books as possible, even if it’s fiction.

You can set a goal of one book a month. There’s a lot to be learned from them, and they’re fun.

    Set standards

It’s important to use your 20s to learn about yourself and set standards. Whether from a relationship or job, it’s vital to know what you are willing to accept or tolerate, lest you fall victim to people that would end up doing nothing for you.

Don’t settle; you have your whole life ahead of you.
