  • These Anny Robert Pictures Show Nigerian Excellence

These Anny Robert Pictures Show Nigerian Excellence

Anny Robert takes pictures that tell diverse stories, and Johnnie Walker makes the smoothest whiskey, so it’s no surprise that they came together to take us on a soulful journey that captures the beauty of Nigerian culture at The Confluence exhibition. From iconic looks to the Nigerian spirit that simply shines off these images, here are our favourite pictures from the exhibition.

    Title: Coronation

Three become one when the kingdom become their bond

We’re all kings and queens of the land and the kingdom is our crown — our unifying element. Make of this what you will.

    Title: The Anchor

You’re stayed by the stories of your heritage

Do you see the baddie in her crown? It’s the resting [redacted] face for us. She’s giving water goddess that no one should even think of trying, because her squad would take you down.

    Title: Culture Inertia

Go back to where you began, long before your birth in this time

We’re not even going to lie, we saw this and had to pause for a minute. It’s a loaded photo, for sure, especially when you think about how it charges us to think about home.

    Title: We are here now

Love flourishes beyond the boundaries of tribes

We’re in awe of this one. The past doesn’t matter much. We are here now, united by love.

    Title: Metamorphosis of Identity

Regaining the self begins from within

Have you ever thought about who you are and what where you’re from make you. Only you can answer these questions, and it leads to a journey of self-discover. The deep reflection aside, this is a fun photo.

    Title: Mr Perfect

A crown prepared for royalty, will seldom fit the unprepared.

Only one question to ask here; are you ready to be royalty?

    Title: The Confluence

Only in unity, shall the spirits know their God

The unity theme shines through here too. Who we pray to is not as important as praying in one voice.

    Title: Dusk in Abak

Remember your creator in the cool of the evening

Not much to say here. The call to action in the description says it all.

Not only are these pictures breath taking, but we love the way they merge the Nigerian culture of old with the present, from the traditional dancers in their ballet shoes,  to the idan with his glass of Johnny Walker whiskey, Anny Robert has outdone himself once more.

  • Sarz Is Cultivating Future African Sounds

Sarz Is Cultivating Future African Sounds

The world’s number one Scotch Whisky brand partnered with Grammy award-winning producer Sarz to celebrate his musical journey in the Nigerian music scene. And when Johnnie Walker is in your system, and Sarz’s sound mix is setting the mood, you know you’re about to have a good time.

In honour of the collaboration and celebration of the Nigerian creative industry’s progress, we look at how Sarz is contributing to and inspiring new sounds coming out of Africa.

If you’re an afrobeats enthusiast, you’ve likely heard the producer tag “beat by Sarz”, “Sarz on the beat”, and more recently, “Really”. Born Osabuohien Osaretin, Sarz is a music producer and DJ who’s been killing it in the music industry for more than ten years.

Since he made his first hit, Jahbless’s Joor Oh remix in 2010, Sarz has been ahead of many others. Known for his unique approach to production, he’s carved out his niche, and it has placed him high on the list of seasoned producers from Nigeria. Sarz has produced for global artists like Beyoncé, Drake, Chris Brown and Skepta.

And out of a zeal to help budding producers and songwriters, he officially established the Sarz Academy (in partnership with YouTube) in 2015. Over 500 creatives have passed through the academy so far. Through it, he’s mentored popular names like D-Tunes, Jay Pizzle, Kel-P, Legendury Beatz, P.Priime, Dunni, Tempoe, who’ve gone on to be huge successes.

In 2019, Sarz made a very bold statement with his first solo body of work, Sarz Is Not Your Mate, an instrumentals-only project to remind his colleagues and the public that he has no match. The same year, he performed his first major DJ set at Gidifest. In 2020, Sarz set himself apart further when he put out his debut sound packs of numerous drum kits, Afrobeats loops, FX, textures, guitar rhythms, for producers to sample and loop on Splice.

His dedication and adventurous spirit has edged him forward to be the partner and focus of Johnnie Walker’s 2023 “Walkers Mix” event. Attended by popular musicians, media personalities such as Reminisce, Wurld, Vee (former BBNaija housemate).

The party became more interesting with games and fun activities like Jenga and painting, shots, cocktails and spin on Sarz’s exclusive beats.

In the spirit of camaraderie, we bask in the brilliance of remarkable talents that mold our world, like an enchanting symphony, resonating with every heartbeat. Raise your glasses high and toast to the brilliant partnership between Johnnie Walker and Sarz, the masterminds behind indelible memories, alongside the boundless creative community that ignites our collective inspiration!

  • Johnnie Walker Encourages Nigerians To Keep Walking With Maryland’s Independence Tunnel Revamp

Johnnie Walker Encourages Nigerians To Keep Walking With Maryland’s Independence Tunnel Revamp

After the artistic rejuvenation of the historic Freedom Park, Johnnie Walker has taken further strides to solidify its place as a promoter of culture and creativity. These strides led to Johnnie Walker’s freshest project: the Independence Tunnel revamp. Located in Maryland, the tunnel saw a complete transformation, with art that celebrates the Nigerian spirit that never stops and honours the people that walked before us. It is a reminder to today’s creatives that they are surrounded by greatness, and they only need to search within to find it.

Lead artist, Tumininu Ayobami Gbebire, was inspired by our colourful culture and rich landscape. She explains, “Nigeria’s culture is rich, yet underrepresented. Historical creative symbols like the Ife Bronze heads, Adire dye pits and Benin Ivory heads, all represent the labours of our hero’s past and are treasures which should be revered”. Take a visit to the Maryland tunnel and you will sight the familiar faces of our founding fathers’ Chief. Obafemi Awolowo, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe and Sir. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, whose steps we now walk in.

Alongside this powerful mural is a documentary that details the journey from conception to completion. It shows how the extraordinary is built on creativity, community and a shared purpose. It further highlights the “Keep Walking” philosophy, which emboldens people to believe in themselves and never give up on their dreams.

To all creatives, Keep Walking and stay connected to @johnniewalkerng on Instagram and Twitter for more updates and information.

  • Johnnie Walker Knows How to Throw A Party, and We Can Prove it

Johnnie Walker Knows How to Throw A Party, and We Can Prove it

You know how you can see an event on TV and just want to enter through your screen to join them because you know they’re having the best time ever? That was us when Johnnie Walker threw the littest party for week 2 of the BBNaija Season 7 a couple of weeks ago.

Abi I should sign up for BBNaija next year ni?

Tell us a party was fire without telling us the party was fire.

First of all, just look at the location

If you enter a place like this and the first thing that comes to mind isn’t, “Omo, I go enjoy my life die today”, then we’re here to tell you you’re a detty liar. That dance floor is giving dance floor

    And then the drinks

As you’re still thinking, “Omo, this place is nice. Maybe I’ll hide somewhere and sleep here after the party”, boom… you see the drinks.  Herbert Macaulay, the founder of Nigeria’s first political party once said, “What’s a party without some Johnnie Walker Red Label?” And to be honest, the man was right.

There were drinks for daysss at this party.

Have you ever seen so many beautiful people in one place?

The answer is clearly no. At some point, we felt like we were watching the afterparty of a beauty pageant because, ahnahn! They were now dancing to some nice gbedu to brighten their moods. .

Do you know what “party cloth” is?

Johnnie Walker must have told people that there was also a dressing competition o. Because how do you get so many already beautiful people to turn up looking so good? Na jazz?

    And the music? Hay God!

Even we watching from home couldn’t help but dance to the music. If your DJ can’t make people lose their home training and turn up at your party, you should probably get another DJ. This DJ knew what to do and he did it perfectly.

Also, we got our hands on some of the music that was played that night. You’re welcome.

  • A Party with a Purpose! Johnnie Walker takes Island Block Party to Heights

A Party with a Purpose! Johnnie Walker takes Island Block Party to Heights

Johnnie Walker partnered with Island Block Party to host one of the highly anticipated events of the year. It was truly an unforgettable experience as they served us the perfect blend of music, whiskey and games.

Guests had fun engaging with the Johnnie Walker #NoLabels quote while making up their own quotes to spice up the fun. Others had fun with the live experiences on-ground from the face painting to the customized merch provided by some creatives.

With its theme – #PartyNotConcert, the hypemen and DJs kept the energy up as they thrilled guests with some of the chart-topping music. The climax of the event was when Victony, one of the most promising breakout acts of 2021, ditched his wheelchair to deliver some of his hit songs while standing on his two feet. It was a moment to behold.

Other performances which took our breath away were Focalistic giving us some of that Amapiano magic and Falz, dropping some of his comic skills along with his tracks. Johnnie Walker also had its bar on-ground with enough of its signature highball cocktails and Red Label Pocket Scotch to keep the crowd pumped up for the artist’s performances.

Guests had a fun-filled night and were super ready to party till the morning. No surprise there though! Anywhere you find Johnnie Walker, best believe the show never stops. This partnership encourages young creatives to freely express themselves and keep walking their paths irrespective of the negative labels thrown at them.

  • Johnnie Walker Partners Mama Burna, Burna Boy in New “Keep Walking” Campaign

Johnnie Walker Partners Mama Burna, Burna Boy in New “Keep Walking” Campaign

Nigerian youths are stepping forward in solidarity with Johnnie Walker’s newest campaign – ‘Keep Walking’, a movement to celebrate communities of creatives across Africa who, in their walks, exemplify its long-standing mantra. The campaign is launched in partnership with notable personalities, one of whom is the African Giant himself, Burna Boy.

Leading the pan-African campaign is a video which showcases an energetic and vibrant ‘Anthem’ that mirrors the trials of being non-conformist and forward-thinking, while addressing negative labels, and depicting the doggedness of the average Nigerian youth.

Johnnie Walker, in this Ad, highlights the resilience of the youth in defying labels and embracing Afro-optimism, while calling on them to step forward and keep walking. This is why we are not surprised that Burna is a major voice in this movement. It is quite clear that the adaptation of the global ‘Keep Walking’ movement is captured through the lenses of Burna’s own walks in the featured video. We also see the ‘Keep Walking’ representation in other stories from convention-defying, non-conformist, culture shapers across the creative space in a documentary titled – The Ones Who.

This pan-African documentary spotlights Nigerians like Emo afrobeats star, CKay; World-class Afrobeats dancer and singer, Yeni Kuti; Nigeria’s first skate crew community, Waffles and Cream; renowned fashion and documentary photographer, Stephen Tayo and Nigeria-American filmmaker, Amarachi Nwosu.

In addition, this movement allows you to celebrate and gift special individuals this festive season through Johnnie Walker’s mega gifting platform. The platform allows you carve out personalized messages to The Ones Who have inspired your walk and allows the whisky company join you on the journey to carve your own path.

For us, the entire campaign is an apt representation of the shoes we walk in and why ‘Keep Walking’ is created to put a spring in our step as we stake our claim, finding our own paths and building our own future to becoming a generation of giants. We don’t think there is a more powerful way to share this message. Stay engaged with Keep Walking, as Johnnie Walker, the world’s favourite whisky, unveils a diverse range of immersive experiences.

  • 7 BBNaija Housemates With The Wildest Dance Steps At The Last BBNaija Saturday Night Party

7 BBNaija Housemates With The Wildest Dance Steps At The Last BBNaija Saturday Night Party

Every Saturday Night Party in the Big Brother House keeps getting more interesting. It’s almost as if the housemates reveal a new layer of themselves every Saturday. When we talk about dance steps in the house, most people would likely think of Liquorose, WhiteMoney, or Angel. But at the last Saturday Night Party, these housemates told us to hold their bottle of Johnnie Walker as they put on their retro outfits and showed us their mindblowing steppings.

Yes, Johnnie Walker had an outside party with a lot of fun, but the housemates dictated the vibes in this year’s Johnnie Walker jam. They put their backs in it and gave us fun content.

See some of our fave dancers:

    1. WhiteMoney

Just look at the positioning of the feet.

    2. Angel.

When Angel stands alone like this, you know she’s about to bring fire dance steps!

    3. Cross and Saskay

Who is touching the hem of their garments? NOBODY. These two dey dance shege.

    4. Queen.

She came to show us that she is not called “Queen” for nothing.

    5. Peace.

Yes, her name might be “Peace”, but she is far from making the dance floor peaceful. She has grabbed her cup of Johnnie Walker and is ready to dance up a storm.

    6. Tega

After Tega, there is still Tega. We have to thank Johnnie Walker for making the last Saturday Night Party lit!

    7. Honourable mention: Liqourose.

The OG of legwork and the queen of vibes.

    8. Super honourable mention: Johnnie Walker!

We have to give honour to whom it is due.
