On Thursday, March 16, millions of Nigerians had limited access to the internet on their mobile and computer devices. Subscribers of telecommunication companies like MTN and Airtel couldn’t access social media apps and website pages. Customers of financial institutions also had trouble accessing their bank apps and USSD services.

According to multiple reports, the internet outage was a result of damage to international undersea cables supplying the country with connectivity.
MainOne on duration of repairs
MainOne network, a major internet provider for Nigerian banks and internet providers, suffered extensive damage to its submarine cable system which affected internet connectivity for many of its clients.
In a statement issued on Friday, March 15, the company said it needs to “identify and assign a vessel, the vessel has to retrieve the necessary spares required for repair, and then sail to the fault location to conduct the repair work.” This would be followed by pulling the affected cables from the seabed and getting technicians to fix them.
This entire back and forth might take a total of one month.

What does this mean for customers’ access to the internet?
On March 17, MainOne returned with an update stating service had been restored to some customers while working on complete resolution for all affected.
“We have already restored services to some customers and are actively working on restoring services to others via capacity acquired on available cable systems.”
Many people also had their internet access restored on their mobile devices, and some were able to transact on their banking apps. In a March 18 statement, MainOne said it worked with regional partners to reroute traffic and restore services for banks, telcos among other companies in the West African business community.
MTN via an Instagram post told customers that internet services have significantly improved and “work continues round-the-clock on recovery efforts”.
As of the time of writing this report, Airtel has yet to issue an update to customers. However, internet services on the network have significantly picked up in the country.
Meanwhile, Globacom customers enjoyed uninterrupted internet service during the outage on Thursday. The telecommunication company in an Instagram post said that its network wasn’t affected by the fibre cut.
After the heat of the ENDSARS protest, Nigerians woke up on June 5, 2021, to the worrying news that the government officially banned Twitter. This was the country’s first real encounter with an internet clampdown since the controversial bill seeking to regulate social media. The ban was lifted on January 13, 2022, after six months, and Twitter operates freely in Nigeria today.
But a similar event is currently happening in another African country.
What’s this internet ban in Senegal about?
There’s been a temporary suspension of internet services in Senegal since June 1 due to recent civil unrest and protests in the country.
The internet ban was part of the government’s effort to maintain stability and security following the unrest that broke out after the sentencing of leading opposition figure, Ousmane Sonko. Sonko was handed a two-year sentence for “corrupting the youth” after getting acquitted on charges of the rape of a masseuse. His supporters, however, protested the sentence while suggesting it was a ploy to prevent him from contesting in the presidential elections scheduled for February 2024.
At the moment, citizens have restricted access to social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and Instagram.
How does this affect the people of Senegal?
As of 2023, Senegal is home to an estimated 14.7 million internet users, representing an 80% penetration. Imagine waking up one day, and suddenly, can’t access your favourite social media platforms, websites, or even communicate easily. Lives and businesses have been affected by the internet ban. The internet ban costs the country over $300k every 60 minutes.
Are citizens completely shut out?
At the moment, some citizens have managed to stay connected by using paid and free Virtual Private Networks (VPN) services.
Is an internet ban legal?
In some cases, the governments may enforce such restrictions temporarily. For instance, during Nigeria’s Twitter ban, information minister Lai Mohammed in a statement accused the platform of promoting “activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.” In such a case, it’s the government’s prerogative to take actions deemed appropriate to maintain stability and avoid chaos in the country. However, it’s essential to balance these actions with the rights to free speech, access to information, and digital freedom.
What can we do to support those affected by the internet ban in Senegal?
At this moment, it’s important to show solidarity with the people of Senegal by staying informed and spreading awareness about the situation. Senegalese citizens in the diaspora and citizens of other African countries can be involved by amplifying the situation on social media and drawing the attention of the global community. #FreeSenegal is a trending hashtag.
Has the internet ban been lifted in Senegal?
At the time of reporting, the internet ban is still in effect. Zikoko reached out to Camir, a 31-year-old Senegalese resident of the Kuer Massar area and he had this to say.
“Everything is calm at the moment, but the internet hasn’t been fully restored. We still need VPN to access social media, including WhatsApp.”
From the people with valid points to the ones who are angry for no reason, here are the different types you’ll see in a Twitter conversation. Know the ones you’re dealing with so you can avoid trouble.
The instigators
The ones who tweet clearly stupid or controversial things just for engagement. They always disappear when the chaos starts, so beware of their trap.
The fire stokers
The devil has many advocates and most are on Twitter. The best place to find them is in the comment section of the instigators.
The market sellers
These ones don’t care about anything. They just want to use all the trending topics to sell their market. So if you see a tweet that ends with words that make no sense together — “Buhari, Oshodi, BBNaija” — just know they’re trying to sell something.
The attention-seeking contrarians
If everyone is arguing about whether or not two plus two is equal to four, you can be sure to find someone who’ll mention how numbers are a capitalist invention. They’re the ITKs of Twitter.
The commentators
These ones actually want to have a conversation. They’ll lay down points that’ll make you feel sorry for them for talking sense in a wild place like Nigerian Twitter.
The jokers
It’s never that deep with these people. They’ll come at any hot take with a slam dunk that makes everybody forget why they were angry in the first place.
The angry ones
For these ones, every conversation is a threat of violence. They just want to insult anybody with a different opinion. No matter how calm you feel, once you engage them, heat will start catching you. They might even curse your father for no reason at all.
On Zikoko Ranked, we would usually rate things from best to worst or most enjoyable to least enjoyable. This is a bit different because everyone is on equal footing. It’s a large compilation of rubbish.
MTN
They promised they’d be everywhere we go, but not with good network it seems. If they manage to give you network, they would attach a straw to your device and SUCK out your data. We advise they quit trying to be a network and just enter drinking competitions for a living.
9Mobile
The best thing about them is that in locations where all other networks suffer, they shine. Unfortunately, not everyone is trying to stream their favourite show from the top of a mountain.
Airtel
Where does one even begin with a network like Airtel? At random moments, nobody in a particular area will have network for a long time. Then they’ll try to apologise with 50MB. So not only is the network bad, but they’re also disrespectful. Also, it’s clear their entire budget is dedicated to TV commercials.
Glo
People say Glo is getting better, but is Glo aware they’re supposed to be getting better? Because it seems like they aren’t. If multiple people within a location are using glo, the result is a phone that’ll buffer from now to thy kingdom comes.
Spectranet
How can you be an internet provider in Nigeria, but not work in all Nigerian states? That’s the story of Spectranet. They select which states are entitled to their poor service. How can you be forming exclusivity with rubbish? Even in Lagos, their internet will work in one house, but somehow, not work at all in the next. It’s giving Owambe-caterer eyeservice.
Smile
What’s actually there to smile about? The price? The network? The name must be an ironic joke, because what is there to smile about? They claim to provide “SuperFast” internet, but their network doesn’t go beyond 3 mbps at any given time. Blatant liars.
Telecommunications subscribers across the country are enjoying the exciting benefits on offer in the newly announced price plan by Globacom, Berekete Plus Plus.
Most notable among the benefits is a 700% bonus- 400% for voice and 300% for data on every recharge, to call all networks in Nigeria. Berekete Plus Plus, allows customers to talk endlessly to friends, loved ones, and business partners. It also gives an opportunity for quality browsing time, massive downloads, and the opportunity to watch movies on Glo TV, thus satisfying their browsing and talking needs from the same recharge.
According to Globacom, “With the offering, every new customer gets a welcome bonus of N1,000 upon successful activation of their lines, which involves registering the SIM, recharging with a minimum of N100, and making the first call. The welcome bonus includes N800 to call all networks at the rate of 75 kobo per second, while N200 will be used for data, which equals 200MB data.
The welcome bonus is however a one-off benefit.” “All recharge of N100 comes with N400 voice bonus for calls to all networks as well as 100MB data bonus on the first recharge of the month for browsing. Similarly, N500 recharge gives 550MB data bonus on the first recharge of the month and N2,000 voice bonus for calls to all networks. Also, customers recharging with N1, 000 will be rewarded with N4,000 voice bonus for calls to all networks and 1,100MB data bonus on the first recharge of the month”. The statement is further explained.
In addition to the benefits above, new customers on the plan will also enjoy an additional data bonus on the first recharge of the month, every month for six months. The Berekete Plus Plus package also includes up to 100% bonus on every data plan purchased by customers every month for 4 months.
The statement concluded by noting that “New customers on the Glo network get on Berekete Plus Plus platform by default while existing prepaid customers can subscribe to the plan by dialing *777# after which they will instantly be able to enjoy the 700% bonus on all recharges. They will, however, not be entitled to the one-off welcome bonus”.
Are you looking for the best way to make money online? Are you a student who could use some money or do you have a full-time job but won’t mind an extra source of income? Maybe the plan is to even turn your online business into a full-time job. The point is, whatever your needs are, there are multiple ways to make money online.
The popularity of the internet in the past two decades has transformed every form of our lives, including the way we conduct business. The internet is now a platform connecting people who require some service and are willing to pay for it with people who can provide the service.
Needless to say, the concept of online marketplaces is becoming increasingly popular, and everyone wants a piece. Millions of people across the globe make their money from businesses they build online. With a phone/laptop and internet connection, you can join in the fun too.
Let’s dive in.
Top 10 Ways To Make Money Online In 2021
1. Freelancing
Do you have a skill or service you feel like exchanging for money, a laptop, and an internet connection? If yes, then you should consider freelancing.
The best thing about the freelancing industry is that there is a market for every skill you can think of, although there may be some disparity in demand. Are you good at writing? There are tons of content writing gigs online. What about programming, graphic design or translating or transcribing? Nothing is off-limits, really.
A good way to start freelancing is to register on freelance platforms: they match clients with talent all over the world. Create your profile, apply to jobs and get to work.
To get started, you should check out this resource.
2. Affiliate Marketing
If you have a blog, a website or even a YouTube channel, and people buy a product from a third party via your platform because you talked about it, that’s affiliate marketing. And you can make money from it.
Affiliate marketing has a low barrier to entry but can be a reliable source of income.
Here’s how it work: You apply for the affiliate program where it is available. If you’re accepted, you get a custom link to the product you’re looking to promote. When your link successfully converts a customer— i.e. they make a purchase via the same link, you earn a commission.
Affiliate marketing is designed to increase sales and a good strategy to use is content creation.
A couple of years ago, celebrities were the only sets of people considered as influencers. But that’s no longer the case — anyone with a strong online presence and engagement can sign up to become an influencer.
This gig is for you if you have a following on any of your social media accounts, such as X (formerly known as) Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or even WhatsApp, and you are looking for a way to monetize it.
Influencer marketing is a type of word-of-mouth marketing strategy that relies on recommendations and endorsement from “influencers” — a term for people who have built a strong presence online and engage their followers. Influencer marketing is one of the organic ways brands promote their products and services, so they don’t hesitate to earmark some of their advertising budgets into this.
How does this work? Influencers partner with brands and “sell” the products to the target audience by posting “sponsored posts” on their social media platforms.
While reach is important in influencer marketing and brands look for people with a massive following, they also look at engagement. Not much might happen if you have 10k followers on Instagram but struggle to get five comments on your posts. Quality and relatable content, for the most part, is the best way to increase audience reach and engagement.
Dropshipping is a retail business model where the seller doesn’t have to stock the products they sell. This is how it works: when a customer makes an order from you, you purchase the product from a third-party merchant — usually a wholesaler or the manufacturer — and have them ship it directly to the customer in your name.
Many people will argue that the best thing about dropshipping is that it’s not as capital intensive as the standard retail model. For starters, you won’t have to worry about the cost of setting up a physical store to keep your inventory. And since you aren’t required to buy the products before you find a buyer, you won’t have to lose sleep over recouping your investment. What’s more? You still get to buy the products at wholesale prices and sell them to the customer at retail.
Social media marketing helps brands and businesses find and connect with their target audience on social media. As people spend long hours online, brands are also looking for ways to leverage this to reach more people and promote their products. This is where social media marketers come in.
A social media marketer’s job is pretty much using social media to promote products and services. So, if you know how algorithms work and how you can use them to boost audience reach or how to use paid advertising to hack growth, you should strongly consider finding work in social media marketing. But remember, the end goal here is also conversion.
The internet has transformed people’s buying behaviour and how they shop for things. With the rise of e-commerce stores, more people are open to buying things online.
Jumia and Konga are two of the biggest e-commerce platforms in Nigeria. While they sell products from their warehouses, they also allow other vendors and merchants to set up stores to sell and market their own products. You should consider tapping into this. If you have a product to exchange for money, you can leverage these marketplaces to reach more people and subsequently make more sales.
All you have to do is sign up to become a vendor and you can put up your products on the sites and start selling once you get approved. However, you should know that these platforms will charge a commission on every sale you make off their platform.
There’s another way to do this: you can easily create a custom online store on e-commerce platforms like Shopify and direct your customers there. Shopify has this detailed article on how to do this, and you can find it here.
Alternatively, you can set up your store on popular social media websites. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have opened up a new revenue stream for business owners, and they should be part of your marketing and sales strategy. It’s also easy to set up a store on these websites — sign up, post your products and create content around them, receive orders and fulfil.
If you’re looking for more information about how to use social media websites for e-commerce, this article is a good place to start.
7. Selling Online Courses
If you’re an expert at something and are looking to share the knowledge with others for a fee, creating an online course might be the way to go. You also have the freedom to choose whichever format works best for you — text or video.
Work on your online course, make sure it’s packed with value, put it on online marketplaces — it could be your custom website or an educational marketplace like Udemy — and start selling.
8. Starting A YouTube Channel
There are about 122 million active daily users on YouTube. In the past few years, there has been an increase in video monetisation attempts by individual content creators and vloggers. With a YouTube channel, you also can make money online. Some of the most popular ways to make money on YouTube include sponsored videos, monetising ad views and joining the YouTube Partner Program
9. Becoming A Virtual Assistant
Virtual assistants work remotely and help clients, which could be individuals or companies with their administrative tasks. As a virtual assistant, you’re making someone’s job easier and getting paid for it.
To find clients, you can use social media sites like Linkedin and Facebook to your advantage in addition to good ol’ word of mouth marketing. Freelancing platforms like Upwork and Fiverr are also effective places to scout for your clients.
10. Investing In Stocks
This is not exactly an online business, but it can be a good way to make money on the side. Also, it requires some capital, some level of financial education, and an appetite for risks. Financial services like Rise and Bamboo provide a range of foreign stock options you can research and put some money into. Now, sit back and watch your money grow.
5 Things To Do Before You Start Your Online Business
1. Research like your life depends on it… it kinda does:
Research doesn’t solve all of your problems, but it fixes most of them. The thing about making money online is that there are limitless options, and that can be overwhelming.
To get past that overwhelming phase, you must answer the question: will people pay for this service? A business that solves a problem will most definitely get paying clients, so it’s important to scour the internet for the necessary information before making a decision. Also, find out what the other players in the space are doing to secure the bag and see if there’s anything to emulate or tweak to make it better.
2. Equip yourself with the necessary skills or tools:
A lot of money-making options on the internet require a set of skills and abilities or tools to work with. For example, you can’t make money online off freelance content writing if you don’t build your writing skills. In the same vein, if you hope to make money from photo editing, you need editing skills and photo editing software.
It’s important to give your skills an honest evaluation and figure out what areas you need to develop. This will help you as you go.
3. Find out your target market:
This should be something you consider when conducting your research. It’s one thing to know that the service you’re looking to sell is in hot demand — it’s another thing to identify the people who are willing to pay for it.
Also, the market shifts all the time, and a widely-sought after service at a time might see a sharp drop in demand after a few months. Think about the long-term sustainability and market share before you commit to the business.
There’s no guarantee that your business will become an instant hit. So, it just pays to be prepared to hang in there and consistently make moves to turn it into a reliable source of income.
5. Have a concrete marketing strategy:
A good advertising and marketing plan, in many cases, is a prerequisite to how much you can make. Promotion matters a lot, and it might be what you need to kick start your business and build it to scale.
The internet enables a lot of rubbish behaviour. But thankfully, it enables good behaviour too. Sometimes, people bond over where they got that amazing pasta that slapped. Other times, they crowdfund for people in need and you’re reminded that there are some good people in this awful world… Here are 10 things people bond over on the internet.
1. The passing of a celebrity
Sometimes it’s easy to feel alone in your love for a celebrity, making it hard to deal with when they pass. But sharing fond memories of that celebrity with others on the internet who feel the same way helps you grieve.
2. Shared childhood experiences
We’ve seen people bond over the fact that we all seemingly had the same childhood. Like trying to bend water in the shower, closing the fridge slowly to see the light go off, or trying to balance the light switch between on and off. It’s also been an outlet for sharing traumatic childhood experiences.
3. Football
Over the years, it’s been great watching football with friends and family and celebrating wins and losses. But do you know how much bonding can happen when you bring that energy to the internet? A lot. That’s how much.
4. Movies/TV Shows
You will be watching a TV show at your own pace and people on “film Twitter” that have watched the entire season of 20 episodes in one night will come with their hot takes and spoilers. It sucks for us slow watchers but at least they have that small community.
5. Protesting against bad governance
If there’s one thing that is universal around the world, it’s bad governance. The internet gives people the chance to protest against it and ask people to lend their voices, if need be.
6. Food
Personally, I think we should stop discussing food on the internet because you people eat a lot of rubbish. However, the internet lets people bond over shared tastes in nonsense food so yay!
7. Disability Visibility
Since the pandemic forced people to sit with themselves last year, more people have discovered that they are on the disability spectrum. The internet makes it easier to talk to people who validate your existence and experiences.
8. LGBTQ+ safe spaces
With LGBTQ+ people’s existence criminalized in many parts of the world, many members of the community have found safe spaces on the internet to freely express themselves and connect with others like them and allies who support and validate their existence. It’s a truly beautiful thing to observe.
9. Relationship Trauma
Just when you think that you’re the only one that got cheated on the night before your wedding and then got left at the altar, you’ll see someone with a story worse than yours. It feels good knowing you’re not alone.
10. Bullying parents
This is my favourite thing about the internet. Parents come to complain about something their kids did and people will be like “You should apologize to that child sha” or “ Our lawyers will be getting in touch since you can’t respect our president.” All in good humour of course. We love all our internet kids.
The internet can be a dangerous place especially for the women who use it. I asked eight Nigerian women about the worst thing that has happened to them on the internet. Here’s what they had to say:
Tinu
One day, I was scrolling through my explore page on Instagram when I saw a missed video call from a username that I don’t interact with. I went to check my dm and I saw that the guy was saying he wants to do sexual stuff with me. He called again while I was trying to figure out what was going on and I picked. The next thing I saw was his dick. I ended the call immediately. He was still in my dm asking me to show him my ass. I blocked him with the speed of light.
Ayomide
When I was 21, someone sent me a picture of his dick with a message saying he would use it on me. He got my number from a group chat. We had never interacted before that day. I told him I didn’t like it and if he didn’t stop I would report him to the admin. He started insulting me. He said he will deal with me and make sure he destroys my reputation in school. I blocked him but before I did I noticed he used my profile picture at that time as his. I was so scared. I kept waiting to hear someone say they saw someone using my picture to do something bad but I never heard anything. Since then I don’t use my pictures as my profile picture.
Tiffany
Sometime between 2014 and 2015, I was in secondary school and very active on Facebook. One day, my Facebook account started sharing porn links with my friends. I don’t know what happened to it but the links were on my wall for everyone to see.
When school resumed, my schoolmates insulted and laughed at me for watching porn. Luckily, my family members believed I was hacked. After that incident though, I dumped Facebook.
Esi
One day in 2019, one man called me. The first thing he said was, “Is this Dream?” I said, “Who is Dream?” He ended the call and texted me saying he had been talking to me on a dating website. When I said I wasn’t on any dating website, he sent me a screenshot of the profile. Some of the pictures there were pictures I had only sent to my boyfriend. I confronted my boyfriend — I asked him if he was using my pictures to take money from people and he started apologizing. I was distraught. I couldn’t take pictures of myself or post them on the internet for a long time.
Bemigho
I met this hot woman on Twitter sometime in 2017. She was quite interactive on the timeline but not with everyone. I became interested when she started tweeting gay stuff. We started flirting on the timeline and then one day, I slid into her dm. We started texting a lot and somehow that began sexting. She would tell me she was wet and it was so hot I would get off on it. This happened a couple of days before she became inactive. One day, someone else on the timeline exposed the account to be a catfish — it was a man running the account. I was scarred.
Tosin
I run a small logistics business and I make deliveries myself because I don’t have money to pay anybody yet. One day, I made a delivery to someone in Ikeja*. From outside the compound, the house looked like a small flat so I felt comfortable walking into the compound. When I entered, I saw that it was a big house so I stayed by the gate waiting for the customer. He was a man in his 30s. I handed him the package but he said I should enter inside to eat. I refused and told him I had other places to be. He said he wouldn’t give me my money if I don’t enter. I was scared so I decided to leave. This man told his security guard to not open the gate. I maintained my stance that I needed to leave. I told him my Boss knew where I was and if anything happened to me, they would come for him. That was when he told the security man to open the gate for me. I ran for my life. Since then, I meet customers at a popular landmark.
When I joined Tinder, a total stranger swiped right on me just to tell me the most ridiculous things about my body. He said nobody deserved to look like me and my parents must have offended God. All because I am fat and dared to join Tinder.
Folake
There was a time Nigerian Twitter was divided into two groups — LWKMD and TBH Twitter. TBH twitter used to pick on LWKMD Twitter. One time I posted a picture of myself and I was called dirty for two days by different people. Another time, I posted a photo of myself in front of my compound and one man mocked my house. His friends followed suit. I was a laughing stock for days. Those same people are still on Twitter doing love and light and I’m supposed to believe that those people have changed? LOL
As peaceful protests in Nigeria carry on into the week, there are looming fears that the government might shut down the internet. These fears are not far fetched as the Nigerian government has in the past, tried to ban social media. We’ve also seen cases where some African countries have either restricted access to social media or tried to shut down the entire system.
In a scenario where the Nigerian government decides to go down that route, here a few ways out:
Bridgefy is a tool that optimizes the Bluetooth function of your phone to send messages over a distance. Its advantage is that it requires no internet connection.
We also have this:
Try…
Briar: A decentralized & encrypted messaging app that can be used without internet connection. connection via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Tango SmartMesh :Serves the same function. images, videos and messages without internet.
For cases like restrictions to certain sites, TOR browser or a trusted Virtual Private Network (VPN) is your best bet. VPN’s shield your address while surfing the internet and protects against prying eyes.
To learn more about VPN’s, start here. To see the option for VPN’s available, the Twitter thread below is a good place to start:
Government officials also have access to some of these networks, so, it’s important that you verify the authenticity of whatever VPN you settle on. That one privacy site is a good place to verify the safety and security of whatever provider you settle on before use.
3) Take simple steps to protect yourself.
Try not to access sites without https in front of them. This little precaution can prevent you from clicking on a fake or malicious version of a website. Enable two-factor authentication across your accounts. This might just be the deciding factor between someone hacking your account and you preventing it. Lastly, install the Chrome extension https everywhere to encrypt your communication across major websites as this adds an extra layer of security when browsing.
4) When in doubt, always ask the experts.
A resource like TechCabal is a good place to learn about anything technology related.
We hope you’ve learned a thing or two about how to unfuck yourself when the Nigerian government moves mad. Check back every weekday for more Zikoko Citizen explainers.
Do you want to hear a secret? Choosing a data plan is like choosing the right life partner. You have to look for one that suits your taste, works well for everything you like to do and won’t drive you to poverty.
1. If you use data heavily over short periods of time:
Then go for the Binge Plan. It works well for people who download movies, update apps, stream music and do all the other fun, short-term things that involve heavy data. This one can be done daily or weekly. Guess how much it costs? N300 for 1GB daily; N500 for 2GB valid for 2 days; N1,500 for 6GB weekly.
2. If you like a monthly relationship with your data plan:
The monthly data plan is calling your name. This one will stay with you till the end of the month and meet all your needs for a very cheap price: 1.5GB for N1,000; 2GB for N1,200; 3GB for N1,500.
3. And if you want something that will last longer, then:
There’s a ready partner data plan available for you. Consider the extension of the monthly plan. 4.5GB costs just N2,000; 8GB costs N3,000; 15GB costs N5,000. More value for less cash. Talk about a data plan that won’t drive you to poverty.
4. We understand that as a Chairperson, you might need something befitting of your status.
That is why the mega data plan exists. If you are a heavy data user who likes to download or stream movies, play online games, use ther applications, this one will cushion you and grant you fast access for a whole month. 15gb is just N5,000 pere; 25GB is N8,000; 40GB is N10,000; 75GB is N15,000; and 120GB is N20,000. Na big person dey use big ting.
5. And for you who likes long term commitment….
You are not alone. You can never be alone. Not when the BIG data plans exist. These ones can last from 30 days, 90days, 120 days and even one year. 200GB costs N30,000; 280GB costs N36,000; 400GB costs N50,000; and 1TB costs N100,000. Long term comfort and enjoyment. What says you?
Airtel has all these data plans designed to fit your needs. Just dial *141# to find the one that works best with your browsing habits. Don’t dull!
With the rise of easy internet access and internet-enabled phones in the late 2000s/early 2010s came everyone’s obsession with personalizing their phones with downloadable wallpapers, ringtones, themes, etc from websites that were, in hindsight, sketchy as AF.
These are 5 of those websites below:
1) Waptrick
This was the most popular at the time. It had low-quality songs, pixelated-as-hell wallpapers, stretched-out themes, unrecognizable monophonic ringtones of popular songs, and PDF ebooks that I believe were created to destroy people’s eyesight.
2) Wapkid
I initially thought this was a kid-friendly version of Waptrick but I was wrong. They were pretty much the exact same website with different names. I guess you can’t fault someone for stealing your idea in the world of illegal downloads.
3) Toxic Wap
Let me just say now that this website lived up to its name. You would visit it to download whatever and immediately get attacked with graphic porn GIFS. Navigating this website with people being able to see your screen of your device was truly an extreme sport.
4) Zedge
This was the first of these websites I found that had high-quality stuff. Their wallpapers and themes were on point and I stanned them until I moved on from Java phones.
5) iM1
I saw this cover art so much that I thought iM1 was a big company who paid Ashanti and Cassie for. Turns out they were just beemp3 with a slicker-looking logo, and they got shut for copyright violations.
Does anyone else get the urge to tackle their computers to the ground and pummel it till it’s nothing but a pile of scraps and crackling electricity? Just me? Maybe I have anger issues, then. Anyways, here are 4 ways the internet annoys you every day.
1) Certain sites making you take captcha tests to ensure that you’re human.
The irony of a fucking machine making me prove I’m a human. We’ve given these things too much power.
2) When you’re trying to change your password to some platform because it insists the one you tried to log in with was wrong but then proceeds to tell you this:
WTF?! *flips virtual furniture*
3) When you’re creating a password to a platform and the platform insists that your password can’t just be a simple word or sequence of numbers and must include an upper case letter, a lower case letter, a number, a rune, 3 hieroglyphs, and a cave drawing of a pre-historic orgy.
“WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!“
4) When you try to log in to a platform and it says that your password or email address is wrong, leaving you confused and wondering:
“You are a social media site and not the cave of wonders! TELL ME WHICH ONE!!”
The fun thing about this is that it works for two groups of people.
In today’s world, where the early stages of courting almost always happen over the internet, have you found yourself being constantly ghosted by potential significant others after chatting via text for a while?
OR
Are you someone who keeps getting hit up (via chat) by people you don’t like but you can’t possibly bring yourself to let them know that you’d rather swallow a fistful of fish bones than go out with them so you keep responding to them nicely, even though you know that they’re taking your willingness to respond as a green light?
If your answer to either of those questions was yes, scream yippee-ki-yay because it’s your lucky day. Based on experience, I’ve made this list of chat responses/behaviours that are surefire conversation killers.
Of all the passive aggressive ways to express agreement or acceptance in written form, this is the absolute worst. Someone will propose something in as much as ten lines, expecting an enthusiastic response from you and the best you can do is respond with “k.”
Are you mad?
What does this even mean? How does one move on from here in a conversation? How is this a proper response to anything other when you’re being sexually stimulated? Someone once did this to me and after I was like “uh..wot?,” he said it meant “thinking.”
So, your head isn’t enough for your thoughts that you now have to think via text too?
Are you mad?
Do you understand how infuriating it is when you construct a joke YOU KNOW would’ve won you first place at Night at the Apollo and send it to someone and then after like five minutes, they reply with “Lol?”
Are you mad?!
A lot of brain power went into that joke. Show some respect and USE A FUCKING EMOJI!
Other Person: “I had a sandwich for lunch today.”
You: “Wow”
Other Person: “Work today was mad stressful.”
You: “Wow”
Other Person: “I punched my boss in the throat today because I was so stressed and he kept bitching about some shit so he waited for me in the parking lot after work and ran me over twice with his van. My right leg has been amputated and I’m currently on the wait list for a new kidney because both of mine ruptured in the accident.”
You: Wow.
Do you see what’s wrong here or should I keep going?
This one is more of an attitude than it is a response.
Sis (and I mean that in a gender-neutral way), you gotta show the other person that you’re interested in the conversation. Say shit. Contribute. I get that not everyone is spontaneous and that constantly thinking up interesting things to say can be hard. But here’s a trick I recently learned:
Pay close attention to what the other person is saying and ask good follow up questions. Here’s a thread on Twitter that explains this in detail.
Use all the information I just dispensed how ever you want.
If you happened to skip the topic, I’d fill you in. There is a picture currently disturbing the internet.
It’s a picture of Cardi b when she was a little kid.
“Okay, but why is this my business?” I’d tell you why.
It’s simply because this picture takes you right back to when you were younger.
It’s accurate in every sense you could possibly think of.
For example.
My mummy said I should tell you that..
..you must play with me.
Aunty, I should write the names of noise makers?
Abi?
You were making noise.
That’s why I wrote your name.
Ahn ahn uncle but that’s not how they taught us in school.
Mummy I think my lesson teacher is teaching me rubbish.
My daddy said that when I enter secondary school.
He will buy phone for me.
Good afternoon ma,
My mummy said I should tell you that she’s not around.
Don’t tell mummy I brought a girl to the house o.
Okay brother.
Mummy welcome,
Uncle Ayo said I should not tell you that he brought a girl to the house.
Uncle Ayo, Mummy said you should change it to cartoon for me.
You’ve been watching ball since morning.
Aunty,
Please I want to go and wee wee?
They gave me injection in the hospital, I did not even cry.
It was not even painful
Ha! You’re telling lies.
All liars shall go to hell and perish in the lake of fire.
In Jesus’ Name, I pray my mummy will not die, I pray my daddy will not die, I pray my sister will not die, I pray my brother will not die, I pray my friends will not die, I pray my teacher will not die.
In Jesus’ name I’ve prayed.
Before we close, let’s say a prayer for Cardi as she has brought some joy to the internet with this picture.
Also, because she’s going to deliver her baby girl veryyyy soon.
With the quick and global spread of technology, the most sensible thing for any country to do is to make data cheaper so it’s citizens can get east access to the internet. But unfortunately, not in Nigeria. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on November 29, ordered an increase in data tariffs, simply because there is an ‘unhealthy price competition’ between network providers
This ridiculously senseless price hike obviously didn’t meet Nigerians well.
So, now we know why the NCC has increased price of data, I have one sentence for them:
Every meme definitely has a back story and the one of this little boy- Jake will make you smile.
Jake Amo who is only 4 was captured in this viral photo, writing pensively at a local creative workshop which was organised in his village of Asempanaye, Koforidua, in Ghana.
Solomon Adufah, the US-based Ghanaian artist, who put the workshop together described Jake as a gentle and quiet little boy on his Instagram page. But little did he know how viral the picture would go.
On top of being famous, a trust fund for Jake’s education/welfare is already in the works! Yass!
So next time your parents accuse you of ‘always pressing your phone’, just remind them of Jake, Olajumoke and other amazing people that became internet sensations.
A few days ago, we told you about how this lady stumbled into TY Bello’s photoshoot.
And stole the spotlight from Tinie Tempah by simply walking into the shoot at random.
After TY Bello expressed her interest in meeting her via her social media pages..
BEATIFULX : WHO IS SHE.Every one has been asking if this lady is a model .. It was just perfect coincidence … She just happened to be walking by while I photographed . It happened so fast .She definitely SHOULD be a model. .. I’m happy to help her build a portfolio if she’s interested .She’s so beautiful and photographed so well. I’ll find a way to track her down somehow . You guys can also help
The lady was found when TY Bello’s assistant went back to the venue of the shoot to ask about her.
“While I was hawking yesterday, I was wearing this same type of outfit when someone stopped me and said they saw my picture on Facebook and asked if I was the same person and I said yes. The person then said Madam was looking for me and asked if I knew your house. When I said no, I was asked to come here today.
The bread seller has been identified as Jumoke Sunday, a 27 year old mother of two and TY Bello is cooking up ways to help improve her life.
So I found her …our beauty from the @tiniegram shoot and boy have I got a fantastic story to share with you all.
Right here is an amazing 27yr old mother of two , Jumoke Sunday with an incredible life story .I called on three amazing artists @bimpeonakoya for beautiful makeup .. @zubbydefinition for hair and @emaedosio to make a short documentary about her .. Every one gave a yes !on the spot . They were all at the studio within an hour and we had the most amazing shoot with her. I’ve also spoken to a few people about the best way to help move her forward and reunite her with her family . … The process has already begone and I’ll figure out the best way to have anyone who wants to be part of the journey .Meeting and photographing her has inspired us all and we can’t wait for the good that will come to her from all of this to unfold . She doesn’t speak English well but here ,she was explaining how she found us . I had sent an assistant , as many of you advised ,to leave a message with the people in the area where we photographed her… So here she is
TY Bello and a team of artists gave her a makeover which completely transformed her look
This is probably one of the top 5 most frustrating emails to get at anytime of the day. Majority of us have gotten one or two daily emails from Dr. Azolibe and his cohorts. Tiring! Annoying! It is a scam!
When you see “1 new email” and it is Dr. Azolibe’s “How to last longer in bed”.
What is all this rubbish for God’s sake?
Someone unfortunately picks your phone and you did not close the email page.
See, don’t act like that. It’s not what it looks like, I can explain.
So you begin to think.
Who gave these people my email address?
And you feel it is one of your exes.
Wow, so just because we broke up badly, you’re doing me dirty.
Hey! Its not your ex. It is a spam service. Don’t curse him/her yet.
It’s a scam website that got your email address from the Internet.
1. First thing to do “Mark as Spam”.
This will ensure all subsequent emails go to the spam folder directly.
2. Look for every other account that sends those emails and do the same.
Dr. Azolibe, Dee Obinna, Engineer Obi all of you must go today. No I don’t want a Samsung and my girlfriend is not complaining!
3. Put them all on a spam reporting website.
They must all rot in there! Mad People.
4. Stop clicking ads online.
No, don’t be deceived nobody is trying to meet you in your area.
5. Stop putting your email address on untrusted and unpopular websites.
They are not going to email you any offers. That is Dr. Azolibe and his family members.
