  • Everything We Know About The Upcoming ‘Americanah’ Series

The Lupita Nyong’o-led adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah has been a long time coming. Back in 2014, the Oscar-winning actress took to Instagram to announce that she’d acquired the rights to adapt the acclaimed novel.

It was initially announced that the book would be made into a film, with David Oyelowo set to star alongside Nyong’o. Well, in the past couple of years, a lot has changed. The book will now be made into a limited series for HBO Max, and David Oyelowo will not be starring.

    The engrossing story:

Written in 2013, Americanah tells the story of a young Nigerian woman, Ifemelu, who immigrates to the US to attend university. The novel, Adichie’s third, traces Ifemelu’s life in both countries, threaded by her love story with her secondary school sweetheart, Obinze.

    The impressive crew:

The 10-episode series will be written and showrun by the talented Danai Gurira (Black Panther). The first two episodes will be directed by Chinonye Chukwu, who recently became the first black woman to win Sundance’s biggest prize for her acclaimed movie, Clemency.

    The incredible cast:

Joining Nyong’o will be Harriet’s Zackary Momoh playing Obinze; Orange Is The New Black’s Uzo Aduba playing Uju, Ifemelu’s aunty; Straight Outta Compton’s Corey Hawkins playing Blaine, Ifemelu’s present-day boyfriend; and Tireni Oyenusi playing Uju’s son, Dike.

    When does it drop?

The series will premiere on HBO Max, the upcoming WarnerMedia streaming service, which is set to launch on May 2020. No exact release date has been announced for Americanah, but we are hoping a teaser or trailer drops sometime soon.

  • 10 Reasons Chimamanda Is Just Really The Most Annoying Person Ever

    1. She writes really good books…

    2. Some of which have been made into movies, as per, Half Of A Yellow Sun and the upcoming, The Thing Around Your Neck.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xrdaf2pq3Q

    3. She gave this TedTalk about how everyone should basically treat women like human beings, so annoying!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hMFL11So8Q

    4. Mummy Beyonce decided to tap into this anointing and kuku sampled this speech in her song, Flawless, which earned the annoying Chimamanda a Grammy nomination.

    5. On top of that, this speech was made into a book and distributed to 16 year old students in Sweden. How ridiculous!

    6. In 2016, she wrote a feminist article so annoying, major publications all over the world applauded her and also shared the piece for days.

    7. Because her wahala is too much, the people at John Hopkins university basically awarded her a honorary degree, she gave a dope speech, as per usual.

    8. Aunty Chi Chi kuku made it to the fashion world, when that her feminist speech inspired high end luxury brand, Christian Dior’s 2017 Spring collection

    9. And after the US elections, BBC invited her to this interview, but haters will still say she’s annoying.

    10. If you still don’t get at this point, that this woman is all the shades you can think of, your bad belle is really showing.

  • The shocking results of the US elections has sparked several conversations all over the world which would’ve been incomplete without our very own Chimamanda’s voice.

In an interview with BBC, Chimamanda schooled Emmett Tyrrell Jr, founder and editor of The American Spectator, who blatantly refused to acknowledge Donald Trump’s racist comments during his electoral campaign.

She basically said, a white person cannot define what racism stands for- which is only right, considering that fact that racism in America was created and perpetuated by white people.

But Nigerians are just angry about her statement sha.

When you’re trying to be woke, but sleep is lowkey catching you.

This hater that was speaking plenty oyinbo.

This person that needs to read the textbook definition of racism.

And this person that doesn’t even know the actual meaning of prejudice.

Apparently, shutting down a racist is now a crime in Nigeria.

This person that was just too pained by Chimamanda’s awesomeness and greatness.

For the people that still don’t understand, maybe this little lesson on racism will help sha. Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments section.
  • Chimamanda Adichie Inspired Dior’s Collection At Paris Fashion Week

Our very own Nigerian writer and novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is doing bigger things on the international scene.

No, Chimamanda did not feature in a hit single. This time around, she inspired Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Dior collection at Paris Fashion Week.

The 2017 spring collection included these awesome T-shirts with bold statements supporting the feminist movement; an excerpt of Chimamanda’s famous Tedx Speech back in 2013.

Aunty Chi Chi was of course present at the fashion show, and she was there to slay! Just look at those shoes *swoon*!

Her Tedx speech which was later developed into a book-length essay was so powerful that Beyonce featured it in her Grammy nominated hit single ‘Flawless’.

Chimamanda’s speech boasts of over 3 million views on Youtube, and was used to teach Swedish students about feminism in 2015. Who else can’t wait to see where this awesome speech takes her next?

  • Chimamanda Adichie’s Comment On Natural Hair Has Broken The Internet Once Again
We are in the era where blackness is celebrated across the world. People of colour are beginning to wear their culture proudly and standing tall against all forms of racial discrimination.

Also, the 1st black president of the U.S, Barack Obama, will be stepping down later in 2016 after 8 years in office. As expected, this has to be the most talked about topic of the year.

Chimamanda Adichie, being very vocal about political issues, spoke about Barack Obama’s election and his amazing wife, Michelle.

She stated that Barack Obama would’ve lost the election if his wife, Michelle, wore her natural hair.

But Nigerians think her statement may be a little exaggerated.

    https://twitter.com/Seyi__/status/763626455817478144

But is an afro really separate from black skin?

For those that think Chimamanda was undermining President Obama’s effort…

Let’s not forget how strongly the society views the First Lady’s image.

Because a black woman’s natural hair hasn’t always been accepted in the West.

And African American women with kinky hair texture are usually seen as unprofessional in the workplace.

    https://twitter.com/BabyHairsNAfros/status/763693062275080192

However, this doesn’t mean women who choose to not wear their natural hair are any less. It is not a battle about what type of hair is better.

For those who were reaching, it’ll be nice to not forget that she also said an afro should only be regarded as normal hair which is only right.

If a 3-year-old child, Blue Ivy, was getting backlash especially from black people for wearing her natural hair, what do you think would’ve happened if Michelle wore her natural hair?

  • Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Slayed Us Yet Again When She Bagged An Honorary Degree From Johns Hopkins University
There are more than 10 reasons why Chimamanda is the most flawless of all, one of which is why Beyonce had to feature her in her song.

After being nominated for a Grammy and winning several awards, we’re sure her award shelf should look like this.

On May 18th, the award-winning author received an honorary degree from Johns Hopkins University.

And because she’s the queen of wise gems, she gave this short but really amazing speech.

In simple terms, “not every time do oversabi, sometimes say “I don’t know”.

Chimamanda is obviously made for greatness and we’re here for all of it. You can watch the video of the ceremony below:
