  • QUIZ: Which “Namaste Wahala” Character Are You?

The Bollywood/Nollywood movie Namaste Wahala was released on Netflix yesterday and everyone has been talking about it, so we decided to make a quiz telling you which character you are.

Take this quiz to find out.

  • 5 Indian Movies Every Nigerian Bollywood Fan Needs To Watch

    1) 3 Idiots

This coming age of drama follows the lives of 3 friends in an Indian engineering college and explores the social pressures put on students in Indian education. There’s comedy and music so it’s a lot of fun. However, nothing can prepare you for the scene that follows the musical number, “All Izz Well.”

    2) Pyaar Impossible

Abhay, is in love with his colleg classmate, Alisha but she has no idea he exists. 7 years later, he runs into her (she still doesn’t remember him) and, in an attempt to get closer to her, applies to be her daughter’s nanny. It’s not as creepy as it sounds, I swear. Priyanka Chopra and Uday Chopra (pictured above) have sweet chemistry, and the film’s eponymous title track is a bop.

    3) Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

Rahul goes against his adoptive father’s wishes and marries a middle-class woman, which leads to him being banished from the family. Years later, Rahul’s younger half-brother, Rohan, sets out to find and bring Rahul home. This star-studded film is super fun, insane, and sad at the same time. Go check it out if you haven’t.

    4) My Name Is Khan

After losing his son in a post 9/11 prejudice-inspired attack (against brown people in America), Rizwan, a man with Asperger’s syndrome, embarks on a journey to meet the president of the United States in an attempt to alter the public’s perception of his community. Even though I loved this movie, I still think it was a really shitty that his wife blamed him for their son’s death. Watch it and let me know what you think.

    5) Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

College student, Anjali, is in love with her best friend, Rahul, but he doesn’t notice because he’s in love with the new girl, Tina. Rahul marries Tina, which breaks Anjali’s heart and causes her to leave college before confessing her feelings. They fall out of touch. Years pass and Tina dies while giving birth to a daughter. When the child, is 8 years old, she finds a letter, written by her mother before she passed, instructing her to hook the now-alone Rahul up with his true love, Anjali. I remember watching this and thinking, “How do you give such a task to a freaking 8 year old??!!” but this insane storyline somehow works.

Personally, I think it’s insane that 3 out of the 5 movies on this list have the same two actors (Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol) playing the leads. But, you know, it’s Bollywood. It never bothers you because the actors do such an amazing job every time.

  • Who Is Irrfan Khan, And Why Are Nigerians Talking About Him?

What do you know about Irrfan Khan?

Let’s play a game called jog my memory:

Remember this scene from Slum dog millionaire?

I mean who can ever forget. We have the inspector who is searching for the truth clashing with a young innocent boy. We see them dance until the end where the inspector concludes that Jamal, the young boy, may actually be innocent.

    A truly inspiring masterpiece.

Then fast forward to this scene from Life of Pi:

If you didn’t cry after this scene, then you are braver than I am. After Pi survives being stuck at sea on a boat with a Tiger, saying goodbye when they finally reach land is harder than he ever imagined.

The delivery and emotions from this scene gets me every time.

So, when I heard that Irrfan Khan, the legendary actor who gave us these mind-blowing scenes was dead, it came as a shock to me. Because some part of my subconscious still believes that “Actor no dey die.”

According to reports, he had a rare form of cancer that he was battling:

    irrfan khan

He was just 53 years old.

A statement from his team also had this to say:

    irrfan khan

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during these tough times.

Because away from overpriced movie budgets, funny politics, and greedy executives, actors never truly die. We asked 3 Nigerians to tell us what he meant to them.

Here’s what they had to say:

Tosin says he made her feel:

“I rarely watch movies because I forget them easily. But no matter how bad my memory is, I never forget how a scene made me feel. For me, watching him as a police inspector searching for the truth will forever stick with me. I remember thinking, I don’t have anything I am passionate about like this guy is.”

Kunle says that one scene moved him:

“Man, that end of Life of Pi. That fucking last scene. I don’t normally cry but that scene moved me. I was like who’s this guy?”

Tolani says he wears black on black well:

I remember seeing him wearing an all-black ensemble in The Amazing Spider Man and thinking, this is a villain I want to root for. I thought he was very intense.”

  • ‘Namaste Wahala’, a Nollywood/Bollywood Film Is Coming And We Can Not Keep Calm

Y’all! There’s a Nollywood/Bollywood romantic comedy movie named Namaste Wahala starring Ini Dima-Okojie and Indian actor, Ruslaan Mumtaz, and it’s coming to cinemas pretty soon!

The 24th of April 2020, to be precise.

One of the movie’s stars, Nollywood’s Ini Dima-Okojie posted the news of her being in the movie on her Instagram, along with news of the movie’s production wrapping up principal photography.

We also found an announcement the director of Namaste Wahala, Hamisha Daryani, posted on her Facebook page on the 28th of January 2020.

It’s no secret that Nigerians have a very special relationship with Bollywood. No Nigerian is going to sit down to watch a 3h 45min long movie unless it’s an Indian movie with a ton of ridiculously elaborate music video-style musical sequences. So, it’s no surprise that Bollywood movie-loving Nigerians everywhere, are freaking out and demanding that this collaboration be injected right into their veins!

    Girl, same!

    Take all of it!

A little morbid but I love the enthusiasm.

They better have mixed the two cultures properly or there will be riots.

Doesn’t always have to be a battle.

Do we want Zee World realness throughout the movie? No. Do we want a little bit of it as comedic fan service? HELL YES!

  • 1. How the characters start singing and dancing every 5 minutes.

    No matter the situation.

    2. How they only kiss on the forehead.

Is there a law against kissing on the lips? Because I’m still confused.

    3. How they cry anyhow at their weddings.

But nobody died na. Why all these tears??

    4. Breeze blowing their hair every time. Even when they’re indoors.

Where is all this breeze coming from?!

    5. All the unnecessary slow motion.

    But why??

    6. There’s a love story in EVERY movie.

It could be a movie about how Cain killed Abel and they’d still find a way to force a love story inside with the background characters.

    7. The two characters in love will get caught in the rain at some point and will decide to play in it.

It’s like you people like having catarrh.

    8. The translations of the songs into English never make sense.

    What the hell?! LOL

    9. The main characters always somehow end up in foreign countries when singing love songs to each other.

    Na jazz? LOL

    10. The insane special effects.

    I’m dead. LMAO!
