  • 6 Must Have Items for Fitness Baddies

6 Must Have Items for Fitness Baddies

“Summers come and go, but summer bodies are a permanent fixture.”

We can’t confirm this is a real quote this, so please don’t say it anywhere. But we can confirm that fitness baddies are a thing, and if by any chance you are curious how to properly identify be one, you’ve come to the right place.

    Gym membership

It goes without saying, but this is where it all happens. This is where fitness baddies are made to become the version everyone else wants to be.

    Smart watch

You know every step you take or every run you break into and the calories you burn has to count. Nothing gives a better dopamine boost than consistently hitting your daily move goals.

    Water bottle

It’s alright if you forget to eat. We can even forgive it. Like, who needs more than two cookies per day to survive? But you see, you have to stay hydrated to maintain your fitness baddie status. That water bottle must be close to you at all times.

    Bandana

    1

Even when putting in the work, you still want to look and feel good. This is tricky when your hair has a mind of their own and are flying in al directions . But the good thing is, a bandana keeps everything together.

Tupac didn’t have hair, but he always had a Bandana on. Guess it’s true what they say — that man was truly ahead of his time.

    Sports bra

“The only thing that should be jumping is you.” – A wise person, 2023.

    Deodorant

Your fitness journey is a form of self-care. But you know what else is? Everything you use on your body in and out of the gym. Enter: a deodorant. No one has to know you break a sweat at the gym — an antiperspirant makes sure of that.

NIVEA Pearl and Beauty is specially formulated with pearl extracts for a soft, smooth, even-tone underarm so you can be confident to raise your arms in every pose.

  • 7 Ways to Live With a 100% Heart

7 Ways to Live With a 100% Heart

The only way to live life with a hundred percent heart is to live it with no regrets. Lucky for you, we know just how you can do this.

Make sure you always have a good time

Life can be a bit unpredictable, so you might not always have a good time, but you can try your best. Lay in bed and watch a good movie, or go outside and be at dope parties, like the “Dia De Los Muertos” party Volcan Tequila threw last week.

Just make sure you always have the best of times because, unlike cats, we only have one life.

    Quit that job

We know the economy is currently on one leg, and everything, including water, costs an arm and two legs. But if that job causes you serious stress, perhaps it’s for the best to just let it go and look for something that won’t have you screaming into thin air in the middle of the day.

    Try new things

It might be tempting to just stick to the things you know and love to do, but what’s life without a little variety? Think of all the things you’ve dreamed of doing, and let your adventure begin.

    Live for yourself

In the words of great philosopher, Ayra “Sabi Girl” Starr, “Let me live the way I want”. As long as no one’s getting hurt, by all means, live your life by your own rules and on your own terms. Take a shot of Volcan tequila, give society the middle finger if need be, and just keep doing what makes you happy.

    Clear people

We’re not saying go around picking fights or telling people off. Just match the energy you get. If someone moves mad around you, tell them off. Just like Volcan tequila, it’s good for you and your heart, we promise.

Spend time with the people you love

Play a game, watch a movie and share a glass of Volcan Tequila or two with the ones you love. Just make sure you take a break from life and spend some time with the people you care about.

    Drink Volcan Tequila

Are you really living life if you haven’t been transported to the lowlands of Jalisco, Mexico, with just one taste of the unique Volcan tequila flavour?

  • These Are the Hottest Football Clubs that Made Our Childhood

    AC Milan

They might not be hot now, but they were blazing back in the day. Everyone’s favourite names once wore the AC jersey. Ronaldinho, Kaka, Seedorf, everybody.

    Liverpool

They were what Man City currently thinks they are. They were clearing league titles at the end of every season. It was glorious.

    Man Utd

Almost every Nigerian kid had a Manchester United phase. It’s how we have so many staunch Ronaldo fans today. You either grow out of it, or you’re stuck with them for life.

    Arsenal

It’s hard to blame Arsenal fans for sticking too long with a club that’s shown them nothing but shege. Once upon a time, they were the hottest thing around. Don’t believe us? Just search “Thierry Henry” on YouTube.

    Inter Milan

They were AC Milan’s less feisty rival. Fans of the two Milans had a similar dynamic to what Chelsea and Arsenal fans have today.

    Barcelona

This is where we all discovered Messi and fell in love with football’s greatest player ever.

    Chelsea

Was Chelsea ever great? Of course, they were. Just look at their 2007 lineup.

Forget flashbacks for a second. We have the FA Cup Finals coming up this weekend. Are you ready for it? If you are, then we’re sure you already have your DSTV subscription set for the match. If you haven’t, fix up! It only costs as low as ₦‎3,500.

  • Why Do Nigerians Love Running On Vibes?

Why Do Nigerians Love Running On Vibes?

When was the last time you heard someone say “We move!”? Did they really go anywhere after that? Nigerians are very hopeful people; even when something is out of their control, they’ll still fake it like they’re on top of it. So we say a lot of things that sound good but that’s all they’re for – to make us feel good.

You’ll see someone in a dire situation and they’ll dust it off and say “God go run am”, when in fact they have no clue what they’re doing.

Another one is the less hopeless “any way na way”. You don’t know what to do, but you’ll still do something in hopes that it works. To be fair, we respect the hustling spirit, but sometimes, a plan is necessary.

The funniest one is the famous “It is well” when all is unwell. Hope is good, but what does “It is well” solve? Nothing. But then, you still have to console yourself when things aren’t good, right?

The funniest part is that it doesn’t only affect the bad times. Even in the lighthearted social connections we have, this happens. When was the last time you told someone “I’ll get back to you” when you’re in fact just telling them farewell forever? Or when they say “Let me know when you’re around” and you nod in agreement but you both know it’s not happening.

Another hilarious moment is when someone tells you “We gather dey” but you know deep down that you’re very much alone.

The truth is, we’re all running on vibes. But we can only take it so far before it starts to get bad. There are certain that just don’t work with vibes. Being Nigerian can be very chaotic, and you need to always have a plan. That’s why you need health insurance for yourself and the people you love.

MyCoverGenius lets you buy health insurance for yourself, your business, and the people in your life. For as little as ₦2,500 a month, you can access up to ₦1million in medical coverage, and all you need to do is sign up on their website to get started.

  • Lipton Leads The Giving Conversation This Ramadan

Lipton Leads The Giving Conversation This Ramadan

Charitable giving is one of the five pillars of Islam, and in the month of Ramadan, Muslims are encouraged to share some of the blessings they have received with people who are less fortunate. However, the practice of giving charitably to those in need should not be exclusive to just the season of Ramadan or practiced by Muslims alone. For this reason, leading tea brand, Lipton, has since 2018 through its “Do Good” campaign been doing its part in giving charitably to people and also inspiring others to do the same by awaking them to what really matters.

As part of Lipton’s 2021 Ramadan Do Good campaign, the brand led the giving conversation through engagements on social media and activations in Mosques and Muslim gatherings in the North, Middle-Belt, and South West regions, where Lipton extended a hand of charity to those in need. People in these regions certainly felt Lipton’s charitable hand as over 68,000 fasting Muslims across various mosques got a chance to break their fast in a healthy manner with fruits, and of course, a steaming hot cup of Lipton tea! Lipton understands that asides serving as a period for reflection, the Ramadan season is also a time for acts of charity and generosity, and this is why Lipton is encouraging Nigerians to take their generosity from mere thought to actionable steps. Lipton believes that it is not enough to only think about doing good deeds; what is important is turning these thoughts into action and positively impacting the lives and wellbeing of the people around us. This belief is effectively summed up in Lipton’s #ThinkLessDoMore tag on social media. Through this campaign, Lipton has set a good example and hopes to do more for its consumers in months to come.

With over 68,000 people impacted by the Do Good campaign in just this year alone, one can only begin to imagine the impact this campaign will have in coming years. With the success of yet another Ramadan Do Good Campaign, Lipton has undoubtedly proven that it is not just a brand that makes wholesome beverages, but is also a brand that is committed to the overall well-being of people all over the world.

  • 5 Nigerians Share How Job Hunting Has Affected Their Lives

What happens when people suddenly lose their jobs due to COVID-19 (thanks, but no thanks 2020) or circumstances beyond their control? For many people in Nigeria, life gets tough. Make that tough because it’s already the ghetto over here.

We got 5 people to share their job hunting chronicles with us, and honestly, the struggle is real!

    Read on.

    Yetty

It was my first job after school and I was just really grateful that I had a job, even though it was the absolute worst. My boss called me one day and explained that they weren’t making money and so couldn’t sustain the staff strength. He added that since he had been spending his personal money on the company, he wanted to invest in something else and would have to let me go.

    This happened in February.

One thing I regret is that I have nothing to show for a year’s work in terms of funds. I didn’t have income insurance. I wasn’t earning much either; had to pay rent in Lagos, feed, and take care of basic stuff. Looking for a job has been stressful. Before losing my job, I was trying to transition into a new career entirely and I’ve been studying and all. But you know how the job market is, they ask for three years of experience for entry-level roles and even internships (all my life, I always thought internships were meant for one to learn and acquire skills). So yeah, it’s been very hard.

    Jeph

I was working in this place where I was handling Marketing. Frankly, I loved my colleagues and the impact of our work. The CEO on the other hand, I didn’t like very much. He paid little to no attention to employee welfare and would stress the life out of you. The work hours were terrible and he’d call at ungodly hours. I once resigned and he begged me to stay. He wouldn’t let me go on leave because I was a “key man risk”. He never increased salaries the three years I worked with him.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdown, I had to work overtime to ensure that the business ran as smoothly as possible. Still, no raise. There was even the risk of a pay cut. One Sunday, I didn’t pick this man’s call because I was asleep. When I did, oga said I was acting stupidly, and that at my age, he was running a business worth ₦22 million so I should stop being irresponsible.

I waited for my salary and I resigned in March last year (2020), but the drama lingered till October. He wanted to punish me with handover like he’d usually do to others and I ignored him. I instead requested for my statutory payments to be made and he ignored me until I sent him an email. They finally responded that they were going to pay up, but then they sent a lawyer to me saying I threatened them and I should come to sign an undertaking. This was about 3 months post-resignation. They also said I obstructed their revenue inflow by not handing over and some other nonsense like that. Then went on to threaten to sue me for $36000 and 4 Million Naira. Thing is, their claims were frivolous and asides from that, I was never given an employment letter and wasn’t bound by any contract terms to follow any set procedures. I sha had my lawyer do the talk with theirs till I never heard from them again. I have sha learnt the importance of knowing the labour laws, work insurance and how to handle employment contracts.

    Temi

    I resigned o.

I was working for a bunch of companies and one particular day I just typed my resignation letter and sent it the next week to most of them at the same time because I was tired. How would I be having thirteen-hour meetings, and they’ll still schedule a meeting for the next day!? It didn’t make sense to me. I was juggling like 9 companies at the same time including my travel agency thing. It was a lot. I was always tired and never even got much sleep. I’m job hunting, but not totally unemployed. I already found a job in the U.S. Getting it was very difficult and my contract will be over in 4 months. I’m sending my resignation to the remaining companies by the end of the week.

    Chuks

I’m out of a job, and it actually hasn’t been easy. Although, I haven’t really been applying for long. Let’s say from the beginning of the year I’ve sent over 20 applications and I haven’t gotten any invites yet. Even when I managed to get invited to one, it sounded like a fraud. I was so tired because it was evident that the guy who put out the advert meant to defraud job seekers.
In addition to this, my mum feels like I don’t want to go get a job, and I’m comfortable staying at home which sucks.
I think it’s due to the fact that I started my own brand and she wants immediate monetary results. I keep telling her that it’s a whole different process, and doesn’t just happen like magic. Parents just see ‘pressing of phone and laptop’ as a waste of time. In my opinion, they need to change their mentality, lol.

    Ije

I freelance in Digital Marketing and Brand Strategy. Sometimes, I pitch to brands or wait for them to approach me. I’ve not been on a campaign for like 6 months now, so it’s been really difficult trying to lay my hands-on jobs. The ones I get, sometimes when I reach out to them, they always promise to get back to me but don’t.

Omo. The financial strain has been really terrible, I won’t lie. I don’t get funds from home like that and most times, the only thing I depend on to sustain myself are funds I get from jobs. People hit me up for Social Media Management once in a while, but sometimes something comes up and they’re not able to complete the deal. It has made my finances terrible. Right now, I don’t even think I want to go through the stress of looking for jobs again, I am tired. It’s draining and exhausting. If the jobs come, good because at this point I just feel like all my efforts are fruitless. I don’t know what else to do. In as much as that’s a mood, I can’t just dey. I’ll still pitch to brands and companies even if I said I won’t. It’s just generally discouraging.

Employers or even employees themselves invested in insuring their income hasn’t been normalised in Nigeria. It is this vacuum Casava is trying to fill with its Income Protection Insurance. • What Happens When All the Single People Have a Valentine’s Day Party?

What Happens When All the Single People Have a Valentine’s Day Party?

Have you ever wondered what a booless party would be like? Well, Captain Morgan decided we’d had enough of relationships folks stealing the show every February 14th, and so he threw a kickass party for everyone instead. Here’s how it went.

First, you can expect the ambience to pop…

Just take a look at the location. Isn’t it enough to put anyone in the mood for a fun time?

…and for the people to understand the assignment

The party got off to a beautiful start with people arriving in groups. Look at the fits! You can tell they knew how much fun they were coming to have that night.

    Good music

Remember how we’ve all been threatening to call Rexxie for months? Well, Captain Morgan called him and he showed up at the party to give the people a night to remember. Chike, the boo of the booless also gave the people a show at the party. It’s a booless party, so it’s only right that the people get a boo for the night.

    And lots of fun

As if having two performers for the night wasn’t enough, Captain Morgan brought Segun Johnson to hype people up for the night and make them lose the last bits of home training they thought they had.

    And even more fun

That’s not all. There were more fun things to do at the party like card games, trivia games, word plays and photo booths all designed to make the people who came to the party have the best time ever.

Then a dinner experience to top it all up

In the end, it turned out that the Booless Party was all just round one, and a dinner party themed “Love Like the Captain” happened later that night to top it all up. This one featured lots of tasty meals, delicious cocktails, chills, and vibes all courtesy of Captain Morgan.

  • The Types of People You’ll Find at the Grey8 Escape

The Types of People You’ll Find at the Grey8 Escape

People say, “Don’t mix business with pleasure”, and we really don’t understand that. What’s wrong with having a great time while making connections to help your career?

Clearly, Grey — the brand that makes international payments easier than making eba — doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with that. They’re hosting a beach party where you can have a great time and still make great connections, and we know all the types of people that’ll definitely show up at it.

The ones who came just to party

These ones are about to walk into the party and forget the networking part of the event. They’re just there to have a good time and enjoy their life.

    The tech brothers and sisters

No, it’s not a tech event. But Grey is a fintech company, and whenever anyone breathes “fintech”, the rich tech siblings are never too far away.

    The social butterfly

Our apologies to the person who decides to cling to their sides at the event. They know everybody in the room, and nothing will stop them from having conversations with all of them.

    The follow-come

They don’t really know what the event is about. All they know is their friend told them to come, and they carried their two legs in.

The ones who are there for the liquor

This group of people saw Flying Fish was partnering and quickly ran to find their fit for the event.

    The die-hard networkers

These ones heard “networking”, and their ears perked up. They’ll most likely be in business casual with their iPad and packs of business cards not too far away.

    The content creators

They heard “networking event”, and the first thing that popped into their head was CONTENT. They’re never too hard to spot. Catch them with a drink in one hand and a tripod in the other.

    The mami watas

These ones would attend any event near a body of water. So when they heard “beach party”, best believe they packed their load and hauled themselves there.

  • Hear Me Out: This Year, I Want to Live the Soft Life

Hear Me Out: This Year, I Want to Live the Soft Life

It’s 2022 AD, and some people still believe Nigerian women aren’t working as hard as they should.

We literally have female athlete champions, bank CEOs, the legend that is Chimamanda, and actual Nigerian women who live in Nigeria — which anyone will tell you is an extreme sport — but every other market day on Nigerian Twitter, another argument springs up about how women these days are different or aren’t as “hardworking” as our mothers in years past.

Our mothers in times past, unprovoked.

Honestly, I once bought into the “hard work” school of thought. I believed, as a woman, I needed to work extra hard to prove to society that I wasn’t some babe who lived on girlfriend allowances or went on dates expecting men to pay for me.

I wanted to be an independent woman, who didn’t need no man. So, I put my head down and worked like my life depended on it. Unfortunately, capitalism doesn’t always care how hard you work. Capitalism only cares about working people to the bone and getting enough profit to keep its wheels running. And with adulting hovering like a weapon fashioned against me, I essentially lived every day counting down to payday.

But I’m happy to announce that I’ve seen the light. I still don’t need no man, but my days of thinking I have to work like a low-budget jackass are long over. This year, I want to live the soft life.

I know I speak for both men and women when I say I want to make money that doesn’t finish the moment I step outside, and someone asks, “Savings or Current?”

The kind of life where I don’t have to put on my best Nigerian mother impression when I go to the market, so the traders don’t bleed my account dry. The kind of life where I can tell my boss to take a hike if I like — well, not exactly like that, but you get what I mean.

I know I speak for both men and women when I say I want to make money that doesn’t finish the moment I step outside, and someone asks, “Savings or Current?” I want to make sure those girls’ trips finally leave the group chat and actually happen. I want to make enough to keep money for my old age, so I don’t have to depend on my children. I want to live the soft life this year, and it has to be this year.

My soft life ambition didn’t just start; I also tried to manifest it in 2022, but sapa said, “LMAO”. I’ll admit that my methods weren’t exactly the best. I started by investing almost all my life savings in crypto, and it looked good for a while, till crypto winter came and, well, you get the gist.

I also tried locking cash in some of these digital finance apps, but it turns out turning back on your digital savings goals is much easier than breaking physical kolos. In summary, 2022 wasn’t my soft life year.

But 2023? It’s me and the god of money. I’ve heard investments are a much better financial option, and though I kinda feel like only rich people invest, I found something that may help me cut my proverbial cloth according to my material.

Apparently, Stanbic IBTC Asset Management has this thing where you can choose to invest in mutual funds from ₦5,000, and start building your wealth from there. This already sounds good to me, because hello? ₦5,000?

Here’s how it works: Their mutual funds are invested in either equity (stocks), fixed-income securities or a mix of both — depending on what you’re investing for, and your risk appetite. In the words of my Nigerian mother, “One way doesn’t lead to the market”.

I’ll very much NOT like to end 2023 singing the same “sapa” song, so let’s see what mutual funds offer. You can join me by starting your wealth journey here or checking their website for more information on Mutual Funds or other digital assets.

To a soft life in 2023!

Once you become an adult, there are suddenly all these balls thrown at you to juggle, and you have to try your best to keep all of them in the air. There’s you, your work, family, and social life. Let’s not forget mental and physical health. It can all be very tiring.

Honestly, I wish I could unsubscribe from this whole adulting thing. Unfortunately, I can’t. So I’ve found little hacks to help make it a less miserable journey

Prioritising my mental and physical health

. One of the hacks, which is something I discovered late last year, is disconnecting from my gadgets. I noticed that being on my devices made my brain consume too much information from various sources. This led to information overload, which got me stressed and feeling overwhelmed. It affected my entire mood and, to some extent, my physical health. I decided to begin a routine of disconnecting from all my gadgets two hours before going to bed. I’d use that time to reflect on my day, read fiction or gist with people in the house. I’ve been doing this for almost a year now, and I’ve noticed that my brain no longer feels like it’s working overtime; my head feels clearer. Because my brain is relaxed, so is my body.

Another thing that has affected my body is going to the gym. Working out is a hack that not many people know about. Early morning gym is what gives my body and brain the energy to tackle whatever activity I have for the day. I always feel so refreshed and like I can take over the world. I strongly recommend it. Working out at night is also great if you’re not a morning person. You get to offload all the mental exhaustion from the day and prepare yourself for a good sleep.

Asking for help but also doing things alone

With all the stress around adulting, I’ve had to learn to ask for help. I always thought I could do everything alone, but that overwhelmed me. My current job has made me realise that asking for help is okay. And there are always people willing to help you. I feel more at ease now that I’m not doing everything by myself. But, I’ve also learnt to do things alone, such as going to the beach, restaurants, parties etc. Another hack I’ve learnt that has made adulting easier for me is to go out alone. Spending quality time with myself outside of the house helps me clear my head and re-energise. It also makes me feel relaxed and at peace and allows me to disconnect from this stressful adulting world.

    Outsourcing

One of the most important things I’ve learnt is outsourcing. If you’re going to take anything from this article, take this. Work takes up most of my time during the day. I never have the time to grocery shop or run errands such as picking up clothes from my tailor or dropping off my laundry at the dry cleaners. I’ve had to learn to outsource it. Because I simply do not have the time or energy to enter Lagos traffic to do all the running around. If I do that, I’ll have to do my office work at night, which takes out of my rest time. Apps like Glovo help you with things like this; online grocery shopping and running errands for you with their dispatch services.

I also outsource food as much as I can. I don’t always have the energy to cook and prep my meals on the weekends, so in the coming week, I order food. I’ve stopped feeling guilty about ordering food online. Being an adult is exhausting, and sometimes I may just want to eat a burger while binge-watching my favourite TV series as a way to distress. Don’t feel guilty about choosing to order food instead of cooking. Buy it and enjoy it with your full chest. If you’re looking for where to order food, the Glovo app lists many restaurants you can order from.

    ———————————————————————————————————————

Glovo is an app that allows you to buy, collect and send any product within your city. Order anything you want with Glovo, and it will be delivered in minutes. You can order from any restaurant in your city, supermarket, or shop. Just request a Glovo, and they’ll get it for you.

Download the app for free on either iOS or Android and watch life become easier for you.

  • It’s Not a Five-Star Hotel If You Don’t See These 8 People

    It’s Not a Five-Star Hotel If You Don’t See These 8 People

    Other lost people

Just like you, these people seem out of place and are also confused and wondering what they’re doing there.

The ones that look like they live there

They know their way around so well that it can only be one of two things. It’s either they run the place, or they live there.

The ones that came to do business

These ones have an air of seriousness around them at all times. The hotel might be chill but they didn’t come to chill at all. If you check well, they’re probably there for a meeting or a conference.

    The rich people

These ones smell like money from afar and the fact is that when you get to meet them, you’ll be right.

The ones that just came to chill

These ones actually came to chill. If the hotel has a swimming pool, that’s where you’ll find them.

    Couples on honeymoon

You can already tell once you see them because they always have that “I just got married” glow that does nothing but remind you of how deep in the streets you are.

The ones you only see on TV

Since it’s a very important place, it’s only normal for you to see people you normally wouldn’t. But you’d be wise to leave them alone before you start looking like paparazzi.

The ones that look like they’re on vacation

You’ll know them by their smiles and you can definitely tell they’re having a good time because they’re not seeing the shege you’ve been accustomed to in this country.

If you’re wondering where you’ll get to meet all these people in real life, then you definitely weren’t at the Transcorp Hotels Plc’s 9th Annual General Meeting. It featured all the coolest people you can imagine, and you can see all the pictures here for free. Aura by Transcorp allows you access to 5000+ rooms from the comfort of your phone.

  • Frag Heads, Here Are 7 Ways to Smell Great in This Heat

Frag Heads, Here Are 7 Ways to Smell Great in This Heat

I take it that you’re here because you love to smell great. You’re also wondering how to maintain your “great scent” street credibility while battling the heat and your sweat (that lowkey looks like it can give Lagos floods a run for its money).

You’re in the right place. Keep reading.

    Start in the bathroom

All great journeys start with a single step. In this case, a good shower is the first foundation in your fight against heat and body odour. And by shower, we don’t mean you should just pour water on your body. The plan is to make your scent last longer, so invest in a scented bar or liquid soap.

    Moisturise

I know what you’re thinking. Rub cream in this heat?! Yes. Hydrated skin retains fragrances because it locks the scent in. Just look for a lightweight moisturiser and get to work.

Use a Nivea Dry Range deodorant

Sometimes, even the lightest of lightweight moisturisers don’t stand a chance against the Nigerian sun, but you know what will keep you fresh, dry AND smelling great all day? Niveo Dry deodorants

    Layer your scents

Think of it as two-factor authentication.

Pro tip: Use the Nivea Dry Fresh Spray immediately after showering, apply a light moisturiser and then spray again. Then finish off with a Nivea roll-on. Let me see the heat that wants to keep you from smelling great.

    Project your inner baddie

Now is the time to wear the lightest, skimpiest clothes in your wardrobe. You need as much fresh air as you can get. If your Nigerian mother wants to talk, tell her you’re fighting the heat. She can’t argue with that.

Say a quick “NO” to anything that’ll keep you in the sun

Even if it’s your job. You don’t want to sweat and lose all the progress you’ve made. Trust me, it’s better to be an unemployed person who smells heavenly.

Or just carry a fan everywhere

If you absolutely need to work to afford food, there are other options apart from quitting your job. You can also carry a portable fan everywhere to stay dry. Or better still, keep a Niveo Dry Range deodorant or spray in your bag. At least, that one doesn’t require power to work, and you’ll stay fresh for longer.

8 Things Nigerians Say When They Have No Plan

    “God go run am”

We all know the only reason we put it in God’s hands is because we don’t know what to do again.

    “Any way na way”

A Nigerian who has completely run out of ideas and is running of “God abeg”

    “I dey your back”

This person is in fact, not at your back.

    “We move”

When in fact, we’re both aware that we’re not going anywhere.

    “I’ll get back to you”

If you ask someone for something and they tell you this, just move on. You’re not in their plans.

“Let me know when you’re around”

This should be the mantra for people who like to ghost others.

    “It is well”

People only say this so you don’t have to face the fact that nothing is well and you’re in danger.

    “We gather dey”

If anyone tells you this, be very much aware that you’re alone.

  • 7 Ways To Plan for Your Children’s Future

7 Ways To Plan for Your Children’s Future

Your children are the piece that’ll live long after you’re gone. You want them to live a life of ease and joy, and the easiest way to do this is by planning for their future.

Here’s how you can do that.

Open a savings account for them

With the way the economy’s moving, you probably wish you’d started saving the second you came into this world. It might be too late for you, but it isn’t too late for your child. Put some money into a savings account every day, week, or month. This way, if you need to make emergency payments on their behalf, you can always go back to the account.

Make sure they get a good education

People keep saying school is a scam, but we know it’s not. A good education will give your child the edge they need in life. They’ll get to meet people, build important networks, and learn skills they won’t at home.

So why don’t you make sure they get the best education by taking the Stanbic IBTC Education Endowment policy?  You’ll be investing in their future, and it’ll ease you of the burdens of parting with a huge sum when the time comes.

    Give them a support system

No one can do life alone, and your children need people to support them. Surround them with people you know and trust because, believe it or not, your love and presence won’t always be enough.

    Teach them useful skills

A formal education is great, but learning doesn’t end when children leave  the classroom. Make sure you teach them empathy, kindness, and proper communication so you won’t send annoying human beings out into the world.

Keep an open line of communication

You need to know what’s going on in theirlives so you can know when to help them. You can’t do this if they don’t tell you what’s going on with them, so it’s best to make sure they know you’re always there and ready to listen without judgment.

Teach them to care for themselves

As important as it is for your children to know they can always lean on family and friends they must also learn to take care of themselves. It’ll help build their self-confidence and independence.

    Make a will

Making a will doesn’t mean you’re surrendering to the arms of death; it just means you love the people in your life. This will make sure your children are not left fighting for all you’ve worked so hard for when you’re gone.

  • 8 Types of People We Saw at the Joeboy x Chibyverse South Social Lavida Night

8 Types of People We Saw at the Joeboy x Chibyverse South Social Lavida Night

What’s a Detty December without affordable liquor, a hype man who knows his work, Chibby pouring shots down people’s throats and Joeboy’s music playing loudly through the speakers. Chibyverse x Joeboy’s South Social Lavida Night had all these and more, and these types of people they pulled up for it.

    Chibyverse regulars

Chiby throws a party every other Friday, and you think he has no regulars? Just like your favourite friend with benefits, Chibyverse offers a night filled with cheap, safe fun, so it’s no wonder the people almost never attend once. Chibyverse regulars will always pull up for a Chibyverse party, and the Lavida Night wasn’t going to be different.

    Joeboy fans

These ones only came to see their Lavida boy and party with him. As far as they were concerned, everything else was simply jara.

    The tag alongs

They told their friends they wanted to end the year with a bang, and the next thing they knew, they were at Moist Beach paying for tickets through Paga.

    The deal lovers

They heard the party tickets were only ₦7k, weighed it against the Detty December club experience, and hightailed it to Moist Beach. They love a good deal, and if you’re like them, you’ll love that when you renew your Amazon Prime Video using Paga on the 1st and 2nd month, you can enjoy a 25% discount, and if you’re still using it on the 3rd month, you’ll get a 50% discount.

    The ones with rock-solid livers

They heard tales of Chiby pouring shots down people’s throats and how easy it would be to pay for drinks through Paga, and they rushed to Moist Beach, ready to drink the night away… very responsibly.

    The networkers

These people had plans for their 2024 and decided to invest in a two-factor authentication, Lavida night for networking on the 29th, and cross-over service for prayers on the 31st.

    The dancers

Everyone else was there to party. These ones came out to show that what Poco Lee can do, they can definitely do better.

    The ones looking for love

Who said you can’t find love at the hottest beach party in Lagos? These ones heard about all the Chibyverse love stories and decided to end their single era in 2023.

Which of these guys were you?

  • 6 Things That Should Be Normalised in 2022

6 Things That Should Be Normalised in 2022

2022 is here, and the days are already counting. Here are a couple of things to normalise if we don’t want to seem crazy.

    1. Not scrolling when someone shows you a picture on their phone

Why are you now looking for something you did not keep, ehn? It should be simple: view and give the phone back. If they wanted you to go through their gallery, they would have said so.

    2. Snatching people’s partners

Snatch anyone entering your eye today. If it’s a woman, you can make her see reasons why she shouldn’t be with a “boyfriend’ when you could be her husband.

    3. Getting pets to do some work around the house

Why should they live in your house without contributing anything? Hand your dog a brush and tell it to get scrubbing.

    4. Eating bread with icing

With the rising inflation, buying your favourite spread will create a hole in your pocket. So, watch out for those celebrating birthdays and store as much icing as possible. Don’t say Zikoko told you, though.

    5. Not airing job applicants

Was their application received and/or rejected? Kindly indicate. The anxiety and self-doubt from a hiring manager’s silence can make people swear for them.

    6. Shopping with crypto tokens

Why use cash when you can pay online with crypto? Wondering how that works? Simply buy Floki, a meme coin currently making waves in the crypto market.

Thanks to a partnership with CryptoCart, you can comfortably use the Floki token to purchase items at over 1,700 stores worldwide, including Amazon, eBay, Uber, Apple, and PlayStation via the CryptoCart platform. You probably don’t like to leave your house anyway, so it’s perfect!

Don’t sleep on this! Become a Floki owner right away.

  • 5 Nigerians On Their Career Growth And Heroes

5 Nigerians On Their Career Growth And Heroes

Everybody needs somebody to guide or back them up as they grow through the ranks of the career world. We spoke with 5 Nigerians and they shared their journey with us, and who the career “hero” in their lives are.

    Dive in.

    John, 24, M

My career in tech just kicked off, and I can’t wait to see how the growth curve is going to look like. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have people who have been instrumental in making this a reality. They are largely people I met on social media, Twitter to be precise. If someone had told me in 2019 that I would be a “tech bro” in 2021, I would have laughed it off with “Meee??”, because I didn’t dare to dream this big. I was content in my comfort zone writing articles as many as 15 articles a week for shitty pay. These people showed me that there is more I could be doing, so many opportunities just waiting to be grabbed by the collar. They probably don’t know it, but those are the people I consider my career heroes. They totally transformed my mindset towards life in general, not just career related matters – that the world is ours for the taking, if we can only two into that consciousness.

    Nike, 28

I wouldn’t be where I am now in my career journey if not for my big sister. The interesting thing about our relationship is that she doubles as sister and career coach/mentor because of her line of work – Human Resource – and that’s something I hold very dear. Not everyone has that privilege. I remember when I was made redundant at my bank job after 4 years of service, it was such a hard blow to my career and self-worth as a person that I lost all zeal to apply for new jobs. I felt like I could never get a better offer than what I had at that job. But my sister was having none of that; from opportunities to constantly reminding me how much of a badass I am, she pulled me up. And I think that’s what matters in the end, having that one person who refuses to give up on you no matter what.

    Nana, 26, F

My current place of work is basically my first official taste of the career world. I started as an intern, and now, I have grown to a Sales Manager position. I’m thankful for the people who supported me in those early days, particularly my team lead then who was very supportive and patient. She taught me every single thing I know in Sales. I’ll forever be grateful for that, because Sales was like a whole new world altogether for me and I struggled to get the hang of things at first. She gave me the opportunity to prove that I could do good work, and never stopped pushing me to be better.

    Phoebe, 27, F

The career hero that stands out for me is the person who offered me my first hands-on job. Before that, I was out of school and did not have a lot of experience working on real projects. The experience I had was mostly working on things with my school mate. But then one day, I was in a cab ride with her (my career hero) and she mentioned needing extra hands for a job, and I was excited to come on board. I would say that is where I got the most practical experience and improved on my skills. It equally opened me up to better opportunities that came along the way.

    Semilore, 25, M

Can you believe there was a time I was earning 5, 000N per month? Now, that I’ve 30xed my income and made significant progress in my career journey, I try to understand how I survived. Crazy times. I owe it all to my current boss who saw potential in me even when I was blind to it and steered me in the right direction. I mean, I had dreams and an idea of where I wanted to be career-wise, but I lacked guidance. I can’t stress how important it is to have someone hold your hand during those shaky, uncertain phases. It prevented a lot of pitfalls I would have fallen into if I was walking blindly.

  • 8 Powerful Ways To Make Your Enemies Fear You

8 Powerful Ways To Make Your Enemies Fear You

You can’t always escape enemies, but in whatever form they present themselves – friends, neighbors or family – you can make them fear you.

Simply follow these 8 powerful steps.

    1. Put a rosary in your car

That’s how they’ll know you aren’t one to be messed with.

    2. Wear this kind of shades at all times

No eyes, no case. This will protect you from their evil eyes, plus you can monitor them without their knowledge.

    3. Drink anointing oil every morning before you go out

Make sure it’s at least two tablespoons for maximum results. Enemies can’t touch you when you are anointed from the inside.

    4. Smile when you see them

Frowning is the worst thing you can do in front of your enemies, especially if you know who they are. Instead, smile and act like you’re cool with them. This will throw them off balance, and they won’t know what to expect.

    5. Show them what has happened to your past enemies

Seeing is believing, after all. Confront them, and tell them to go and ask about you – how you’ve obliterated your past enemies. If they want the same fate, then they can keep messing with you.

    6. Look the part

Hit the gym. If you eat three times a day, increase it to six. The goal is to be so menacing physically that they have to lower their eyes and take to their heels when they see you.

    7. Stay indoors for seven days

This is for fortification purposes. Make sure your windows and doors are locked so the enemies won’t be able to spy on you.

    8. Join Next Level Prayers by 6:30 am everyday

Make it as early as 6 a.m. That is not the time to murmur silently or sleep. You need to be loud enough for your enemies’ bones to rattle wherever they are.

If you like sleep too much and want to stay consistent, you can join an online prayer platform like the #NextLevelPrayers hosted by @BolajiID on Instagram ‘Pastor BolajiIdowu‘ on Facebook and ‘HarvestersTV’ or YouTube.

Share this with friends you suspect might also have stubborn enemies.

5 Amazing Things About Black Skin

If there is one thing we know to be absolutely true, across all timelines in the multiverse, is that black skin, in all shades, is top tier. There’s no mistake about that. As a black person, there are many benefits and perks to having black skin. Here are five of them.

    1) The way it glistens in the sun.

What Dark-Skinned People Need to Know About Skin Cancer – Cleveland Clinic

There’s nothing more mesmerizing than watching a black person at the beach get in the water and emerge, literally shinning in the sun like one of the vampires from Twilight. There’s a reason that that scene of Halle Berry coming out of the ocean in “Die Another Day” is iconic.

    2) All that melanin.

Melanin is responsible for the different shades of black skin, eyes, and hair colours. It also provides UV protection for the body parts against the harmful Ultra Violet rays of the sun. Not only do black people get natural protection, but it also makes us look good. Love that for us.

    3) The way it pops in pictures.

If you ever come across a picture on Instagram of a black person captioned #SunKissed, get on your knees and be thankful for being blessed with such beauty. That beauty is native to black skin only and is better than any beauty filter photo-editing applications can give.

    4) So many flattering colours make black skin look better.

First of all, you can wear any colours you want. It’s up to you and no one else. However, there are some colours that fashion experts have revealed are perfect for accentuating and flattering black skin. Some examples of these are Cobalt, red, green, violet, pink, gold, and red.

    5) Beyoncé has a song celebrating black skin.

If it worked for John Cusack in that one movie that keeps getting referenced everywhere, then it’ll work for you. Just make a playlist of the most romantic songs you know and stand defiantly outside your ex’s house until they’re forced to emerge and love you again. Remember sha that this is Nigeria. People are already irritated by generator noise so adding loud music will most likely get you slapped. But anything for love, yeah?

  • 5 Insane Things That Could Happen While You Sleep

When you’ve spent at least two decades on this giant piece of rock floating around the universe, you start to get used to its routine. And that’s great because routines help ensure that your life doesn’t devolve into chaos. However, a downside is that you start to see the world less like a bright-eyed child who believes anything is possible and more like a jaded adult who is entirely over everything, forgetting that insane things can happen when you least expect it. Things like:

    1) Judgement day

Even though it’s been over 2000 years since we were promised this event, God could decide that he wants heaven’s marching band to stage a performance to end life as we know it at 3 a.m on a random Tuesday night, as you’re in bed, snoring and dreaming of chilling with the big boys.

    2) Your Nigerian parent deciding to apologise to you.

Forget the people who say that Nigerian parents would rather stroll through a cemetery at night than apologise to their children. Some of them lay awake at night, mulling over that they were wrong and should do the needful. Hell, some of them even go-ahead to do it. It could happen to you.

    3) A ghost party.

Ghosts are invisible and, for the most part, can’t physically interact with things in our realm. So for all you know, a pack of fun-loving ghosts could be having the most kick-ass party any plane of existence will ever experience in your house, but you’ll never know because you can’t see or hear them.

    4) Your crush responding to your DMs.

hey big head text bubble" Pin by lanacamille | Redbubble

Sure, they’ve ignored the 65 and a half messages you’ve sent them so far, but it’s entirely possible that they’ve just been swamped for four months straight and haven’t had time to respond. Don’t give up hope. It’ll all be worth it when you say your wedding vows to each other one day.

    5) A rise in crypto investment profits

Listen, we know that the crypto market is volatile. What investment isn’t? But you have to admit that it feels like Young Money/Cash Money folks are making it rain dollars when the value rises. Speaking of crypto, Floki is an excellent coin with which to start your cryptoverse journey. Here are a few reasons why owning Floki is a brilliant idea:

    • It is competing with the top cryptocurrencies in the market.

  • Why You Should Get The VoLTE Service From MTN

You know what I love about remote work? The fact that you can wake up at 8:59 am and be at work by 9:00 am. You literally just have to get up from bed and walk over to your desk. In fact, you don’t even technically have to get up if you decide to work in bed. That’s the beauty of remote work.

My first taste of remote work was in March 2020, when Nigeria got it’s first taste of COVID-19. Our boss just showed up one morning and said that that was the last time we’d see each other in person for a while. Like everyone else, I pretended to be sad about it, but I was lowkey excited. I live in Lagos, and commuting in this state, regardless of the distance, is an experience that should be reserved as punishment for the most evil souls in hell. I spent the next few days making sure I had all the things I needed to work from home smoothly.

    • A laptop (provided by work)
    • A steady power source (generator)
    • Highspeed internet (using my phone as a modem and powered by MTN)
I'm Ready | Im ready, Funny memes, Memes

On our first day of remote work, I sat at my desk ready to slay the day from the comfort of my home. At 9 am, I logged into Zoom for the weekly Monday morning meeting and started giving a presentation about what my team was up to the previous week when my internet connection vanished and I got disconnected from the call. I freaked out and turned to my phone to see what had happened and noticed I had an incoming call from my mum. While frantically trying to rejoin the Zoom meeting, I picked the call and found out that my mum was just calling to make sure I was doing ok in during quarantine.

I assured her I was — even though I sounded like a crazy person because I couldn’t rejoin the Zoom meeting for some reason. I was able to rejoin when the call ended. I apologised to everyone present and continued the presentation. It would take three more incidences (during another Monday meeting, an online meeting with a an important client, and my online appraisal) for me to realise that a call coming in on a phone being used as a modem disrupts the internet connection.

I Went Through Popular Illuminati Conspiracy Theories So You Don't Have To | Zikoko!

It made sense that I’d never noticed this before (I always worked from the office) but I now had to figure out how to stop this from happening at important times. I wasn’t able to do that so I just managed it until 2022, hoping for the best. That didn’t work either so I finally started reaching out to my colleagues to ask for advice on what I could do to avoid this embarrassment. After a slew of “I don’t know, man,” one of them replied me with something she insisted would be a solution.

    VoLTE from MTN.

She said she also heard about it from a friend and volunteered to be in the test group. She described it a new service that enables people to make clearer calls with the added advantage of allowing internet usage whilst making a call! I dashed to the nearest MTN office to find out all I could about it and was informed I already had all I needed.

    • A 4G SIM and a 4G smartphone.
    • A VoLTE eleigible phone (not all phones can do it)
    • Be in an area where 4G Network is available.

After fixing the settings on my phone, I was asked to restart my phone for the process to be complete. To avoid stories that touch, I tried it right there. I made a phone call while scrolling on Intstagram and the internet wasn’t disrupted. The next time a call came in during an online work meeting, it didn’t disrupt my flow. I was finally free!
