The 2017 spring collection included these awesome T-shirts with bold statements supporting the feminist movement; an excerpt of Chimamanda’s famous Tedx Speech back in 2013.

Here Is Why Nigerians Are The Coolest People Alive

In this recession, someone was dashing people money to get the correct spelling of Lupita Nyongo’s name.

Calm down, it’s not in Nigeria. On the ‘Spellbrity’ segment of Jimmy Kimmel’s show, the TV crew members took to the streets and challenged Americans to spell Lupita’s name for a prize which doubled every time someone spelled it wrongly.

All the Oyinbo people failed it o!

But because Nigerians are efikos and don’t like wasting school fees, a Nigerian woman finally won $1280 (N403,000) for spelling it right. She even added the correct apostrophe.

  • Today On ‘WTF News’, Nigeria Imports $18 Million Worth Of Toothpicks Annually

Today On ‘WTF News’, Nigeria Imports $18 Million Worth Of Toothpicks Annually
Nigeria has a culture of overreliance on imported products. Even though the nation is the most populated country in Africa, with manpower supply in abundance and arable land spread all over, the country manages to spend a whopping N3.1 trillion on importations of 4 major consumables annually. Pretty insane, right?

The Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, has thrown us another bomb; apparently Nigeria spends almost $20 million on toothpick imports annually.

Let that sink in; $18 million on toothpicks.

And that’s not all. According to him, the country also imports 5 million eggs per year from South Africa, and spends $600 million on fish importations annually.

So you people don’t just want designer bags and shoes, you want Italian made eggs and fish too?

The truth is, if we don’t learn to invest in local producers as a country, we may never stop these ridiculous importations. Nigerian-based producers also need to up their game and actually set standards.

It makes absolutely no sense that Nigeria imports fish, eggs, palm oil, or leather when we have natural resources and manpower to produce and even export on a large scale. This was one of the reasons the current administration banned Forex access for importers of some products.

Instead of stating problems and whining about the past administration’s failures, the government needs to invest in and support production of locally made products, because all this money we’re spending is too much jare.

  • Another Unnecessary Demolition Has Happened And This Time, It’s A National Monument

Another Unnecessary Demolition Has Happened And This Time, It’s A National Monument
One would think the vast number of colonial buildings and monuments in Nigeria would be acknowledged and cherished as part of our history. For a building like Ilojo Bar, which was constructed in 1855 and declared as a national monument in 1956, Just the idea of destroying it would be a total no-brainer.

Formerly known as ‘Casa do Fernandez’, the Brazilian-styled building was sold to Alfred Omolana Olaiya of the famous Olaiya family in 1933.

Unfortunately, the building was torn to the ground in September 2016 by certain developers following the property’s change of ownership.

However, the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), has vowed to bring the lawless people behind this senseless demolition to justice.

Also, Legacy, a Lagos-based historical and environmental interest group has filed a petition against this demolition. This petition also aims to ensure the reconstruction of Ilojo bar to its initial state.

This demolition makes one wonder why National Monuments can be easily bought and sold by people who don’t even value their importance.

Share your thoughts on this in the comments section. But in the mean time, here’s a video of the demolition.

  • Zimbabweans Are In Trouble, And This Time It’s Not Mugabe’s Fault

Zimbabweans Are In Trouble, And This Time It’s Not Mugabe’s Fault
As if having President Mugabe leading them into a recession is not enough, Zimbabweans are facing another, probably bigger, financial problem.

Thousands of Zimbabweans have lost their investments after the online money scheme, MMM Zimbabwe Global, terminated its services without prior notice to investors.

Apparently, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe had earlier warned citizens that MMM was a scam, but Zimbabweans didn’t listen because initial investors had made profit from the scheme.

It’s not surprising Zimbabweans were desperate to join the social financial network; the country’s economy is fast grinding to a halt.

The Zimbabwean Finance Minister, Patrick Chinamasa, and ZANU PF, the leading party, have been widely criticized for their inability to map out strategic economic reform ideas to improve the situation.

And of course, there’s this teeny tiny problem as well.

Ponzi schemes like the MMM only work when new members invest money, which is used to pay off older investors until a point where the schemes don’t attract new investors and crash.

The MMM Nigeria scheme is gaining traction and we heard someone even advised presido to put our money there.

    Please, we don’t want.

The MMM scheme is known globally as a Russian scam network and the CBN has warned Nigerians against joining it.

The U.S Presidential Debate Was Yesterday, And Of Course Nigerian Twitter Chooked Mouth
In case you just got back from Mars, the USA Presidential Debates kicked off at New York’s Hofstra University yesterday, and it was one tense moment! Republican candidate Donald Trump, who is widely known for his aggressive approach towards well, everything, was on the attack against Hilary Clinton, the Democratic candidate. Polls show Clinton is currently ahead of Trump, and financial markets are cheering her for the victory. Nigerians even stayed up to watch the show, and apparently, a few people took notes.

    1. First of all, we are very surprised Nigerians actually stayed up to watch the debate.

    2. This person was just awed at the technology that was used; should Nigerians look forward to this at the 2019 polls?

  • Once Again, Shekau Has Risen From The Dead

Whenever the name  ‘Shekau’ is mentioned, the picture of the loud-mouthed leader of despicable terrorist group, Boko Haram, only comes to mind.

The most interesting fact, however, is how Shekau has come back to life after the Nigerian Army has reported his death more than 3 times since the onslaught against Boko Haram started in 2011.

To be fair, in 2016, the Nigerian Army has made commendable efforts to bring an end to insurgency in North Eastern Nigeria. In fact, some of the people who fled the war are returning to Borno and a few schools have been re-opened.

Although they reported his death or serious injury in August, he recently released a video claiming he was well and alive.

Na wa o! Is he Lazarus?

How many lives exactly does he have abeg?

Please, men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces, wyd?

He needs to make up his mind if he’s going to die or not because this his resurrection game has become really boring.

  • Today On Firsts, A 25-Year-Old Is Nigeria’s First Female Local Government Chairman

Today On Firsts, A 25-Year-Old Is Nigeria’s First Female Local Government Chairman

You probably never thought you’d see a 25-year-old female become a local government council chairman in Nigeria, but Hindatu Umar just shattered that glass ceiling.

Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, recently appointed Umar as the Chairperson of Argungu LGC, following the expiration of the former chairman’s tenure. Hindatu was previously the Deputy Chairman.

However, there have been ridiculous complaints over the appointment, because Hindatu is a young single female, with only secondary school certification.

If you’re familiar with Northern Nigeria’s culture of excluding women from political and economic discussions, you won’t find the outrage surprising. Northern states have high female illiteracy levels and President Buhari’s administration has been criticized for the low number of female political appointees.

Hindatu Umar has broken a record, please join us in celebrating her.

  • On Today’s Edition Of International Exposure, Davido’s ‘Skelewu’ Has Made It Into A Disney Movie

On Today’s Edition Of International Exposure, Davido’s ‘Skelewu’ Has Made It Into A Disney Movie

Nigerian music is finally getting the international recognition it deserves, and this time it has made its way to the big screen.

We were waiting for Disney’s ‘Queen of Katwe’ to drop, when we heard Davido’s ‘Skelewu’ and Mc Galaxy’s ‘Sekem are on the sound track list.

Davido revealed his excitement on his Snapchat saying, “Never thought I’d hear Skelewu in a Disney movie. Amazing.”

Directed by Mira Nair, ‘Queen of Katwe’ stars Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o, David Oyelowo and Madina Nawlanga. It tells the true story of Phiona, a female Chess Champion from the slums of Uganda. Despite a poor and hard background, Phiona beats all odds and goes on perform at World Chess Olympiads.

Disney’s move to tell a success story that is purely African is really commendable. Hopefully, this will start a positive trend in Hollywood and the international film scene.

‘Queen of Katwe’ which debuted at the recent Toronto International Film Festival(TIFF), features a largely African cast; now we have several reasons to look forward to its official release on September 23.

  • Can We Talk About Nigerian Politicians And Their ‘Youth Empowerment Programs’?

Every now and then, in the name of empowerment, Nigerian politicians turn up with big ass geles and agbadas, scissors and ribbons just to give out the most ridiculous amount of ‘vocational equipment’.

Usually, these politicians go on to post pictures of their incredible feat on social and electronic media just so the world can give them a gigantic cookie for effort.

In the usual manner, this recently happened in Oyo state.

I mean, it’s a good thing to encourage the people every now and then, but why is that Mummy’s gele that lit on top one hair dryer?

Does this hair dryer come with a salon for the graduant to actually dry hair in? Abi is she supposed to play with it?

When will Nigerian government bodies create long-lasting programs that will serve Nigerians positively?

Let’s know what you think of this in the comments section.

  • After 2 Years Of Closure, Students Are Back To School In Borno State

After 2 Years Of Closure, Students Are Back To School In Borno State
North Eastern Nigeria has faced 2 years of brutal fighting between the Boko Haram sect and the Nigerian Army. Borno has the highest number of IDPs – over a million, and while everyday activities were almost at zero the past few years, life is finally coming back to the state, thanks to the Nigerian Army.

Public schools were closed during the 2 year conflict, and after the horrific capture of over 200 girls from a school in Chibok town.

This Twitter user shared pictures of students attending classes in Gubio LGA.

The Borno Stare Government announced recently that all public schools have been renovated and will now be open for students to continue their education.

We are really just thrilled that these kids can finally go back to living a normal life, in a safe environment.

Imagine you have a fiance you really love and you guys have been engaged for about 3 years (as per Lord of The Rings).

You did everything for him, even paid for his M.Sc degree with your hard earned cash, it was all love.

But on one unfortunate Saturday, you see his pictures on Bellanaija, slaying during his traditional marriage to another girl.

We’re not telling stories o! That was exactly what Twitter user, Miriam Shehu, claimed to have experienced in the hands of a certain Taiwo.

Hay God! She has been raining curses on him via her Twitter page.

But trust Twitter people to find banter in everything.

Maybe it was his twin, Kehinde’s traditional marriage.

Association of Yoruba boys are not happy with Taiwo.

Perhaps women should stop dashing these 419 men money.

    https://twitter.com/officialdaddymo/status/778512657183825924

Three years engagement is a scam o!

Because M.Sc is not marriage certificate.

    It’s not a joking matter o!

People dating Yahoo boys shouldn’t chook mouth in the matter.

Although people on Twitter have decided her story is untrue, we’re sure many men and women have once been scammed by a Taiwo.

  • If You’re Looking For Something To Be Sad About Today, Let Us Help You

If You’re Looking For Something To Be Sad About Today, Let Us Help You
Wang Sicong , the only son of a Chinese billionaire Wang Jianlin is known on social media for his more-than-extravagant spending on his Alaskan bitch, Malamute Keke.

On today’s episode of ‘The Whole World Is Crazy’, we present to you the richest bitch in the world, Keke Mamalute.

Keke’s owner, Wang Sicong, bought the dog, not one, not 2, but 8 of the latest and most expensive iPhone brand.

The iPHONE 7 is valued at about N473,000. Multiply that by 8 and join us in crying please.

Someone is buying iPhone 7 for his dog but your boyfriend cannot buy simple case for your palasa phone, is that one even boyfriend?

Wang had previously posted pictures of Keke wearing 2 gold Apple wrist watches he got her.

In a world where millions live in poverty and conflict, is this kind of spending logical, Uncle Wang?

Maybe some of us should just turn into pet dog so Uncle Wang can adopt us.

  • On Today’s Episode Of ‘Everybody Hates Donald Trump’

If you don’t know who Donald Trump is, we have no words for you. For those who do, you must be aware of all the controversy the U.S Republican presidential candidate has steered in the course of the elections campaign. His disturbing and unconventional suggestions in dealing with Islamic terrorism and the Migrant crisis facing 1st world countries have earned him biting criticism worldwide. These reactions to the billionaire businessman are more than hilarious.

    1. Little Miss Flint, Amariyanna ‘Mari’ Copeny met with President Obama in May, after penning a viral letter to him about the contamination of water sources in Flint, a city in Michigan.

    2. But look at Mari’s reaction when she met Donald Trump, who visited Flint as part of his campaign tour.

    3. Americans hilariously summed up Mari’s reactions on twitter, and of course dragged Donald Trump too.

    4. It appears it’s not only Democrats and Little Miss Flint that are scared of Trump, this eagle he used as a prop for an interview seems to want a piece of him too.

    5. But just look at calmly President Obama handled this photo session with another bald eagle.

    6. Even these babies could not seem to stand Trump, while he held them for photo ops at the republican rally in Colorado.

    7. But see our Uncle Barack here handling another set of babies like a PRO!

    8. Still wondering why people just don’t like Trump? Check out when he didn’t care about the lady beside him, versus Obama who braved the rain and left the umbrella for First Lady Michel.

  • This Facebook User Has Broken The Internet With Her Garri Processing Skils

Farming isn’t something new to Nigerians, I mean, a lot of people own little gardens in their compounds. Which was why the viral gist of the Facebook user, Ogechukwu Kate, who processed her own garri was just eye roll inducing.

Getting it straight, farming on its own is necessary for the survival of any nation. In a post on her Facebook page, she stated she’ll rather go to the farm and process her own Garri than buy 13 cups for N400.

A post as such without doubt generated hilarious and even ridiculous reactions like this:

    Okechukwu Kate (3)

The Most Expensive Wife Material ? Natural Beauty ? Educated ? Hardworking ? No filter FIN. pic.twitter.com/zpNck5LA7Y — Seraph (@Yommie_Scream) September 17, 2016

Let’s not forget that garri processing was only done to make life easier for the rest of us.

I’m going to ignore the wife material bullshit being peddled there and ask. Why do people think of costs in terms of a monetary value alone?

    — Osarumen Osamuyi (@SkweiRd) September 18, 2016

Liking stress and ‘sufferhead’ doesn’t make anyone husband or wife material abeg.

The time spent in processing her own garri from scratch is worth way more than N400, but let’s carry on sha.

    https://twitter.com/ToluBablo/status/777124413850390528

    Because harvesting cassava isn’t beans.

    https://twitter.com/DuchesseGingham/status/777245749432164352

How much garri is she eating sef?

Let’s sha hope she isn’t eating all that cassava but actually making money from all the wahala she’s putting herself through in the name of saving cost.

  • This Twitter User Thinks Only Nigerians Who Have International Exposure Are Fit To Lead

A twitter user in the diaspora shared her opinion on the type of leaders Nigeria needs and sparked heavy debate on the social website yesterday.

It appears some people are of the opinion that we should leave the administration of country to those who have lived or trained abroad.

International exposure is apparently now a pre-requisite to leading, according to her.

We know it sounds petty af, but come to think of it, most of the Nationalists who fought for Nigeria’s independence were indeed foreign trained.

But on the other hand, we have seen foreign trained Nigerians drag us further into a mess, when they were placed in positions of authority.

To our surprise, Naija Twitter actually discussed the issue, by presenting opposite arguments.

Some felt this was a narrow and disconnected viewpoint of someone who lives abroad, and who subscribes to the idea that ‘the only way is the white man’s way’.

Is it time we look for a system that will work uniquely for Nigerians?

Because the Nigerian system is quite peculiar, and unfamiliar to foreign returnees.

Or could it be our leaders are just too greedy and selfish?

We all want the best for this country, but should we really elect leaders based on where they lived or schooled? What of the vast population of brilliant minds who have not had the opportunity to step out of this country? Should they be marginalized because of this? What do you think?
