It was 7am on Friday, May 6 when Mrs Ronke Shonde was found dead at home in Egbeda. The family nanny had arrived to prepare the children for school and found the house locked. Peeping through the window, she found the little children crying because they couldn’t get their mummy to wake up.
After breaking the door open, Mrs Shonde was found dead and her corpse showed signs of domestic violence.
Her husband, Mr Lekan Shonde, was however, nowhere to be found. She was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, whose phones have been switched off since she was found dead. Her phone was also missing from the scene of the crime.
Surprisingly, Mr Lekan spoke to The Punch from hiding, claiming he had nothing to do with his wife’s death.
He claimed they only had an argument. He explained how he saw her by the staircase and thought she was only pretending.
According to him, his wife constantly cheated on him and refused to cook for him.
He said his late wife never bought anything for the house throughout the 8 years of their marriage.
He even said he gave her money weekly for soup and for her hair, bathed the children and washed her underwear when she got sacked from her bank job three years ago.
Lekan said Ronke got another job at a publishing company and started sleeping with her boss three months ago.
He said he had overheard her talking to the man he suspected she was cheating with about the sex they had during the week.
As he explained, he confronted her and it lead to an arguement on the night before her death.
He said the last time he beat her was three years ago and he never laid his hands on her afterwards although Ronke’s family members and neighbours insist he beats her very often.
He ended his testimony with this shocking comment, “I am a Lagos boy and I can be in this Lagos for the next 30 years and nobody would see me.”
These things aren’t adding up sha.
Why is Mr Lekan hiding if he truly didn’t kill his wife?
Why did he keep mentioning her infidelity and inability to cook for him instead of mourning her death?
Did he think of his children’s welfare before going into hiding?

In an Interview with Zinnia from HFtv Africa, Omawumi talked about her growth as an artist and life as a mother.
The interview became ridiculous when the interviewer brought up a rumour about the paternity of Omawumi’s daughter. She asked if Omawumi truly bore her daughter for her manager or her husband.
Omawumi denied the accusations and said she chose to be polite because of the person asking.
To make things worse, Zinnia took things further and talked about another rumor. She asked how Omawumi keeps her alleged smoking and drinking habit away from her children.
Like a correct Nigerian woman, Omawumi clapped back at interviewer and asked if she had ever seen her smoking before.
And guess what? She walked out of the interview!

It has been four years since Nigeria’s football legend, Rashidi Yekini passed away but his greatness on the pitch will never be forgotten.
Yekini died at 48 after a suffering from a brief illness in 2012 and was buried in Kwara state.
He scored the Super Eagle’s first ever World Cup goal at the 1994 Tournament in USA.
Even in death, he still holds the record as the highest goal scorer for the Super Eagles with 37 goals and was the first Nigerian to be voted as African Player Of The Year in 1994.
On May 4, the 4th anniversary of his death, his former colleague, Sunday Oliseh, and other Nigerians paid tribute to him on Twitter.

In a quiet village in Adamawa, 76 year old Bintu Namda reigns as the traditional ruler of the community.
She became the ruler of Arnado Debbo, a village in Adamawa state, in 2014 after a successful screening process that also included other princesses.
Only women are allowed to rule the community and must be above the age of 60 because the older women are regarded as more experienced in social issues.
She is the 16th ruler of Arnado Derbo since the first one ruled about 246 years ago.
According to myth, men used to rule the land but many of them died shortly after being crowned king. However, the women who ruled afterwards have stayed on the throne for about 9-40 years.
Although men cannot rule, they play important roles in the community and four of the six council members are male.
However, the female ruler is responsible for regulating the spiritual affairs of her people. And with the advent of Islam and Christianity, she encourages religious leaders of various faiths to organise prayer sessions in their places of worship.
In case you didn’t know, there are other female traditional rulers in other parts of Nigeria such as Kumbada in Niger state and Ikota in Ekiti state.
Although male traditional rulers are highly recognised and much more influential, we hope these women become more recognised in Nigeria as time goes by.

On April 28, Tiwa Savage’s husband, Tee Billz had a public meltdown that had us all worried and wondering if his account got hacked. However, Tiwa confirmed that Tee Billz tried to jump off the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge but was rescued and taken to Banky W’s house.
Tiwa Savage, in an interview with pulse TV shared her own side of the story and addressed the speculations about her marriage.
She explained how worried she got when she learnt about Tee Billz suicidal rants and how concerned she was for his safety.
However, she also revealed the problems she faced while in the marriage and how she didn’t want to keep up appearances.
Fighting back tears, she told the interviewer of the unfortunate miscarriage she had recently.
In the Interview, Tiwa revealed how Tee Billz stole from her while he was her manager. She fired him just to make things work between them.
However, as she said, Tee Billz cheated on her frequently and even had a child by another woman during their relationship.
She also discovered he had ‘interesting’ conversations with another woman which he saved as ‘Edible catering’ on his phone while she was dealing with her miscarriage.
Tiwa also told of how she caught him doing cocaine and how he had drug and alcohol problems.
Although she paid off some of his debt which include a Mercedes Benz and Rolex watch, he still incurred a 45 million Naira debt and is currently wanted by the EFCC.
Although he continued to claim he ‘made her’ and accused her of stealing his manhood and cheating on him, Tiwa said she never cheated on him.

Early in the morning of April 28, Tiwa Savage’s husband and former manager, TeeBillz, took to his Instagram page and poured his heart out.
He started by posting an old picture of Tiwa, sharing the first time they met.

How they fell in love and how much he had sacrificed for her career and success.

The few stations that sell above pump price still experience queues because fuel has become gold.

The latest fight between Linda and Wizkid was messy, no doubt. Wizkid made really misogynistic statements and even threatened to beat Linda because she reported “not-so-awesome” news about him getting evicted from his Lekki house.
Linda who took his threat seriously, went to report the matter to the Commissioner of Police for her own security.

Yes, violence against women and anyone should not be condoned and must be reported to authorities.
More action should be taken against people (and celebrities) who make misogynistic comments and unnecessary violent threats!

On April 7, all hell broke loose in University of Lagos as the school was closed down indefinitely by the authorities.
The students abandoned their lectures to protest the poor water and electricity supply in the school. They also protested on behalf of the students who live off-campus and have difficulty getting to school due to the fuel scarcity wahala.
The school authorities closed down the school indefinitely and asked all students to vacate the school premises before 10 am on April 8.
It was alleged that the Student Union locked the school gates on April 8 when the school management closed all the hostels.
The school shutting down is a direct consequence of the fuel scarcity crisis in Nigeria.
