Amina, who was the former SUG VP only assumed office after the former president, Faruk Sai’d, was impeached for taking money from the union’s account without approval.
Speaking to the BBC network, she explained how other women refuse to support her despite her achievement.
Meanwhile on Twitter, some haters couldn’t hide their disappointment.
Eh ya! Unfortunately for him, there will be many more female presidents in his lifetime.
All the haters and misogynist can like to take several seats because this woman is here to rule the SUG! Well, done, ‘Slaymina’!
This article was updated at 5pm on August 1, 2016 to include that the record Amina broke only applies to public universities in Norther Nigeria, there have been other female SUG presidents in non-public universities.
Have you ever imagined being able to tell the time in Yoruba? Well, now you can with the Yoruba Watch Faces created by tech enthusiast and Software Engineer, Moyinoluwa Adeyemi.
This Computer Science graduate who has created a sizeable number of Android Watch Faces became inspired to create a way to tell the time in Yoruba after looking at a clock on a Friday evening after work.
Soon after, she started working on this idea, and began gathering all the knowledge she gained from the Natural Language Processing classes she took while in school.
Moyinoluwa has been doing awesome work even before her Android Watch Faces became popular. In 2013, she was the event developer of TEDxIfe that held in OAU, and was also on the 14-member team that helped improve the ranking of the university from 6th to 1st in Nigeria at the Webometrics ranking of universities.
Moyinoluwa is currently the Software Engineer at Swifta System and Services International.
Two of these Watch Faces are currently available for free download on Google Play Store, with each of them depicting a man and woman in Yoruba attire.
This ban resulted in people carrying their generators to filling stations. Seriously, we’re not joking.
However, a Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Malcolm Omirhobo, isn’t taking this ban lightly. He has filed a lawsuit against the Nigerian government, challenging this really stressful ban.
He said the fact that Nigerians don’t even have light at home is enough reason to overturn this ban.
In his opinion, instead of arresting people with Jerrycans, the Nigerian police ought to check the activities of Black Marketers and also people who engage in jungle justice.
Basically, the Nigerian government need to face their work and simply:
We hope something positive comes out of this lawsuit. Four words: Chief Malcom for President!
After going through so much and not even receiving financial support from the Nigerian government, the women representing Nigeria at the 2016 Olympics 4x400m relay event have been disqualified by the IAAF.
According to Complete Sports, the team got banned after one of the athletes, Tosin Adeloye, tested positive to a banned substance at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Super Grand Prix/Warri Relays which took place in Warri, Delta State in July 2015.
As a result, Nigeria will no longer be represented at the 4x400m event even after the team came 4th during the IAAF World Championship in August 2015. All records of the team making the top list during the Beijing games have also been removed from the IAAF website.
In addition to being disqualified from the Olympics, Tosin has been banned for 8 years and also stripped of all the results she achieved individually or jointly.
While other members of the relay team will still take part in other events, it’s unfortunate that Regina George, one of the athletes that raised funds via GoFundMe, will not make the Olympics because the 4x400m race was the only event she was to participate in.
More attention should be paid to Nigerian athletes, so they are properly educated on the necessary regulations to obey and also the kinds of substances to be avoided.
Sometime in July 2016, this video of a young Nigeria woman, Mayowa Ahmed, a sickle cell carrier, who is currently battling stage 4 ovarian cancer went viral. She was appealing to Nigerians to help save her life by donating towards the $100,000 needed for her treatment in Emory hospital, Atlanta.
Anyone who have the capacity to help, such is your friend. Let's #SaveMayowa Access Bank – 0038091966 Ahmed Mayowa https://t.co/HwbyHlnMZt
Amazingly, less than a week after the video came up, Nigerians donated generously to the GoFundMe account opened in her name and the $100,000 goal was completed.
Mayowa’s campaign was so touching, controversial Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu paid her a visit and even tried to cheer her up.
This outrageous report made several Nigerians reach out to the family for explanation. And emails the family shared with representatives of some hospitals overseas were released.
They also shared Mayowa’s current medical status with Nigerians in a bid to clear their family’s name.
Her medical story shows how she became ill in 2015 and was misdiagnosed in LASUTH for almost one year. When her condition worsened, they contacted Emory Hospital in April 2016 and were asked to deposit the sum of $100,000.
According to the medical report, “Ahmed, Mayowa Shukura has been a known healthy HBSS patient from her early years and because we detected it early…. but after graduation she seemed to have more frequent cases of hospital visits with Ulcer being the diagnosis most times, we began to manage Ulcer in LASUTH. By July 2015, the ulcer as it was diagnosed, became worse as it had progressed from pangs to vomiting and stooling blood so frequently. At this point, our confident in LASUTH was not firm anymore because it just wasnt working and we were not getting enough care so we tried another place- Isolo General Hospital as we knew a Management Doctor there. It was fine for a few days but then we went back to status quo.”
As if the rumours weren’t enough trauma, Aramide Kasumu and Toyin Aimakhu contacted the police and Mayowa’s brothers were arrested.
They both claimed Mayowa’s brothers refused to let them see Mayowa on July 27 and the family received more than the $100,000 funds they asked for. But they forgot to add how Nigerians continued to donate even after they announced they had reached their goal.
Following these claims, Mayowa’s family announced how plans to take Mayowa to the U.S changed.
Speaking via Bellanaija’s comment section, they explained how Mayowa needs to be stabilized in Dubai because of her critical health condition before further travel plans can be made.
In this video, Mayowa’s cousin, Habeeb, released this statement maintaining all their family did was just to keep Mayowa alive.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYTilm_XIqg
Although the account dedicated to raising funds for Mayowa has been blocked, Habeeb called out to competent legal trustees to help them handle the funds just to convince Nigerians of the sincerity of their actions.
Mayowa’s sister also denied all the allegations and shared how Mayowa is deeply saddened by the bad news circulating all over social media.
We were just minding our business on Twitter when melanin-popping Nigerian actress, Beverly Naya, came to share her experience at a restaurant in Lagos.
One day, as a pinging baby girl, she went to eat at one Lebanese-owned restaurant. Who no like better thing abeg?
To her surprise, the black waiters in the restaurant only served black customers while the Lebanese man attended to the the white woman.
Instead of shouting, she jejely asked the Lebanese man to come and serve her, as per she’s not eating their food for free.
Na wa o!
There shouldn’t be any form of segregation especially on our own soil.
But this feat didn’t come easy for Chierika Ukogu, who had to put off medical school for 2 years just to make her dream of representing Nigeria at the Olympics possible.
Despite not receiving any financial help from the Nigerian government, this Stanford University graduate funded her training and travel expenses through her full-time job and T-shirt sales.
However, with the Olympics drawing nearer, the need to train harder drove Chiereka to raise more funds via her GoFundMe page.
Although she was born and raised by Nigeria parents in the U.S, Chiereka is thrilled to be the first Nigerian athlete to row at the Olympics
What motivates her isn’t just her personal goal to be a great athlete, but also the need to promote sports in Africa and also inspire young people in Nigeria and the U.S.
We’re so proud of Chiereka! We wish her all the best and hope she brings all the gold home.
Nollywood keeps getting better and has been serving even more awesome movies. These days, the industry is impressing us with movies that tackle social issues in Nigeria.
In this forthcoming movie, The Arbitration, office affairs and rape were defined and heavily highlighted.
The Arbitration takes us through the romantic affair between Gbenga, played by O.C Ukeje, and his employee, Dara, played by the award-winning Adesua Etomi.
However, things go south when Dara sues Gbenga for rape shortly after her resignation from the company.
An arbitration panel which features Ireti Doyle at her best, is set up to investigate the truth behind the story.
Nollywood is officially our BAE for creating a movie which will definitely educate viewers on the definition of rape.
The Arbitration is set to hit the cinemas on August 12 but in the meantime, check out the trailer below:
On one peaceful day, instead of facing his work, a 28 year old labourer, Chikwandu, went to steal a phone worth N6,000 from someone’s van that was jejely parked on the street.
And because everyday is for the thief and one day is for the owner, someone caught him the act and shouted:
He got arrested and was charged to court for stealing in an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Instead of sentencing him to court, the judge, Chief Magistrate B.O. Ope-Agbe, ordered him to fill up two buckets with water and carry them up and down a flight of stairs 100 times.
He should kuku use the punishment to build his muscles as per fit fam.
Who knows, maybe there aren’t enough spaces for petty thieves in prison sef.
For a country that’s home to amazing athletes like Blessing Okagbare and Seye Ogunlewe, it’s expected that these sportsmen are properly rewarded for their efforts.
Unfortunately, Nigerian athletes hardly enjoy any benefits and this video couldn’t be more saddening.
🎥"Nobody cares about us…we didn't eat for 3 days…not everybody can run with stress" Travails of 🇳🇬 athletes Pt.1 pic.twitter.com/pg4CUJ3DDa
Although the Nigerian team qualified for the Summer Olympics, it was reported that the athletes were asked to buy their tickets to the trip themselves.
It’s even more disappointing that the fastest man in Asia as at 2016 is Nigerian-born, Femi Ogunode.
For a country with a high unemployment rate, the sports sector should at least be adequately funded so that the Nigerian youth going into sports can be empowered.
Following the reaction from Nigerians on social media, the sports minister, Solomon Dalung, addressed the issue claiming the sports ministry had nothing to do with the email which was obviously signed by a deputy director in the ministry.
Davido is not anybody’s mate again. Earlier this year, he signed a record deal with Sony Records and now, he just bagged yet another deal with RCA Records.
His deal with RCA Records means he’ll be rubbing shoulders with international artistes like Zayn Malik, Usher, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys and even Aunty Taylor ‘Slytherin Snake’ Swift.
The gist of this signing came out when Sony Music Execeutive, Efe Ogbeni, shared the news on Instagram.
This came right after behind-the-scenes pictures of Davido’s video shoot with Tinashe, who is also signed to RCA Records, broke the internet.
Congratulations to Davido on this achievement!
We can’t wait to see how the full video turns out. You can listen to a snippet from his single with Tinashe, ‘How Long’, below.
When wardrobes start overflowing with clothes that are hardly worn, it only means one thing, TIME TO DECLUTTER!
This was exactly how Ginikachi Eloka, the brain behind NFB yard sale, felt as a UNILAG undergraduate in 2014, when she stared in to her wardrobe and realised she had a lot of valuable clothes she wasn’t wearing.
Reaching out to her friend, they both organised a yard sale in December 2014 and the buyers couldn’t be more pleased at the good deals they got.
Now a graduate of Systems Engineering and a force to be reckoned with in the creative industry, Kachi believes more people should engage in letting go of things they don’t need because it helps them focus on acquiring more important things in life.
However, Kachi’s NFB Yard Sale now comes with a bigger objective of charity and providing value for the buyers and sellers.
People who want to declutter their wardrobe for a reasonable amount of money can be a part of the forth-coming yard sale.
It’s also an opportunity for fashion lovers to shop stylish pieces at affordable prices.
And because it’s important to reach out to those in need, there will an auction segment where the money generated will be donated towards empowering the less privileged women of Iroto, a rural community in Ogun state.
Although the aim is to generate over N250 million towards the Iroto project, the auction is set to begin at N3,500.
The yard sale is set to happen on July 24 at Ethnic Heritage Center, 35A Raymond Njoku street, off Awolowo road Ikoyi.
There’ll be so many awesome pieces from designers like Gucci, Lisa Folawiyo, CLAN, Hermes and Swarovski and also what we all love the most, PLENTY FOOD!
To be a part of this yard sale, check out more details via the Instagram and Facebook pages.
You have to be sleeping on a Keke not to know this badass Ugandan actress called Florence Kasumba.
She’s the woman that slayed our lives with just one line in Captain America: Civil War.
Like seriously, this was our reaction when she delivered that line.
And because the whole world has recognised her awesomeness, the 40-year-old actress is set to feature in the 2017 DC movie, Wonder Woman.
Florence is set to play the role of Senator Acantha, one of the notable characters in Wonder Woman’s comic universe, Themyscira.
However, details of Senator Acantha’s role in the movie haven’t been revealed by the movie producers.
While seeing her in Wonder Woman would be an amazing experience, abeg she should feature in the forth-coming Black Panther movie so she can give us life one more time.
And while many of us aren’t even over this teaching idea, a civil society organisation, Buhari Youth Organisation, believes the NYSC service year should be devoted to farming.
According to their spokesman, Abdul-Waheed Odunuga, the NYSC scheme needs to restructured so that graduates can help boost Nigeria’s agricultural sector during their service year.
He suggested the state and federal governments create farms where graduates can learn agriculture and farm while serving the country.
Instead of them to suggest realistic solutions to the unemployment problem in Nigeria, they’re talking about farming.
Anyway, the corpers can kuku use the farming as an excuse to join fitfam, muscle cannot waste.
Or they could just start one farm in their backyard, don’t say we don’t do anything for you guys.
In this age where graduates of developed countries are making ground-breaking discoveries, some people still believe Nigerian graduates would be better off learning a trade.
Nigeria will only keep up with the rest of the world if opportunities can be provided for its citizens to improve the failing sectors in the country.
Hard-working with a passion for telling African stories, the award-winning Didi Akinyulere launched her career in the financial sector in 2011 after graduating from University of Nottingham.
She moved to journalism in 2013 when she joined the Lagos branch of CNBC and is currently the producer and presenter of a business show, Open Exchange West Africa.
Following the sudden death of Ghanaian BBC World New presenter, Komla Dumor, in 2014, an annual award was set aside in her memory. And this year, Didi is the second journalist to be honored with the award.
As part of the award prize, Didi will join the BBC team in London for a 3-month placement in September where she’ll attend a course with the BBC Academy.
This prize also comes with an additional opportunity for her to travel to a country in Africa with a top BBC producer to report on a story targeted at the global audience.
One of the judges of the panel, BBC Africa’s Josephine Hazeley, described Didi as excellent in telling business stories and the right candidate for the award.
Didi is proof that Nigerian journalism will only keep getting better. We’re so proud of her!
Four of the most beautiful Nigerian celebrities, Beverly Naya, Mocheddah, Adesua Etomi and Sika Osei, covered the latest edition of Genevieve Magazine.
See how they’re all shining and popping.
But in spite of how empowering this cover looks with all the slayage, the quotes on this picture couldn’t be more disappointing.
And for a magazine that claims to be women-oriented, the quotes on this cover are a bit of a let-down .
It’s even more disappointing because most of us thought a cover like this would feature quotes on the things women face in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
When a magazine puts ‘Fearlessly Female’ and quotes that bring women down on the same page.
Some Nigerians aren’t pleased with this cover sha.
For the record, it’s a pan-African passport which was launched on July 17 during the 27th African Union Summit in Kigali, Rwanda.
However, the first recipients of this passport were Idriss Deby, who is the Chairperson of the African Union and President of Chad, and Rwandan President, Paul Kagame.
The passport was launched in an effort to promote opening of borders and more efficient trans-African relations.
According to officials of the AU, the passport will be available in 5 languages including French, English and Swahili and will also have high security features.
By 2018, the passport will be available to citizens of the 54 member-countries of the African Union except Morocco, which left the Union in 1984.
Some Africans couldn’t be more thrilled at this development.
Everybody loves doing a form of amebo and it isn’t always bad. But there’s a certain OAP that likes to chook his mouth in things that don’t concern him. And as expected, everything he says is almost always outright ridiculous.
When Daddy Freeze started sharing his unsolicited opinion on things, we thought he was on his way to being ‘woke’.
But no, his posts just kept on being completely ridiculous.
One day, Noble Igwe jejely shared this picture on his Instagram but amebo Nigerians wanted to know why his wife wasn’t cooking for him.
And because he schooled them on how his wife isn’t his cook…
Daddy Freeze felt Nigerians cared about what he had to say and tweeted how he’d rather have a woman who does ‘both’.
Abeg who asked him?
As a correct Nigerian man, Noble Igwe dragged him all over Twitter for saying nonsense.
Yo @Freeze_Coolfm , you really did a post on Instagram mentioning my wife . How about a lil respect for yourself & your family ?
Not long after they were placed at the 61st position, the team dropped nine places and are now behind countries such as Uganda and Benin Republic at the 70th position.
In spite of this, African countries such as Algeria, Cote D’Ivoire and Ghana were among the top 40 teams in the world, holding the 32nd, 35th and 36th positions respectively.
Considering how great the Super Eagles were in the past, this ranking shows how poor the team’s performance has been recently.
Something should be done about this because most of these players perform brilliantly in their international teams.
We hope the sports ministry looks into this so the Super Eagles, who once achieved FIFA’s highest ranking and won several trophies, return to their past glory.
That’s what Brooklyn-based Nigerian artist, Olalekan Jeyifous, aimed to achieve with his creative photo series, Shanty Megastructures.
Using a series of 3D visuals, he created a realistic architectural view of Lagos in 2050, with massive tin towers spread across all the popular parts of the city.
According to him, the slums of Lagos are usually left out of developmental projects and are mostly targeted for demolition. By doing this, whatever development that happens in the state mostly favours the rich.
In Shanty Megastructures, he creates an idea where even the famous Makoko canal isn’t left out of the Sci-Fi age.
Although his idea isn’t perfect…
He however partnered with NLE Architects and Zoohaus/Inteligencias Colectivas to create a pollution-free and well-planned Lagos, in a previous project he called Uneven Growth.
More pictures from Olalekan’s project can be viewed here.
So many things keep people up at night, like why Jollof Rice feels incomplete without chicken. Or how Pizza is just bread and stew that studied abroad. Anyway sha, Twitter user, @Kristin_obute was kind enough to tell the hilarious story of Jollof Rice’s love life and how Fried Rice joined the cool kids of Nigerian food.

Being the radical that he was, Fela threw heavy shade at the Nigerian military in his 1977 song, Zombie, where he compared the soldiers to mindless Zombies.
In the light of the recent protests against police brutality in the US, American rapper, Jay-Z, compiled a list of songs that addressed social injustices in a selection he titled, Songs For Survival.
And because Fela’s legendary status and his Zombie song will be forever relevant, Jay-Z added this great song to the collection which is available for download on Tidal.
You can listen to Fela’s Zombie here.

Finally, the Nigerian Senate gets something right and we’re so pleased with them.
On July 13, members of the Nigerian senate finally approved the ‘Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities (Prohibition) Bill’ after its third and final reading.
This is a huge milestone considering the fact that people with disabilities have been fighting for the passing of this bill since 2007.
Announcing via his Twitter page, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, explained how the bill will finally put an end to all forms of abuse against people with disabilities.
#PromiseKept@NGRSenate's Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities Bill will curb the abuse of Nigerians with disabilities
— Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (@bukolasaraki) July 13, 2016
It’s good to know Nigerian Senators aren’t totally blind to the need for equal treatment of a group of people. We hope they revisit and finally pass the Gender Equality bill soon.
Ugandan President Museveni while returning from a World Population Day commemoration, stopped by the roadside to make a phone call that lasted 30 minutes.
But we’re wondering who brought the chair for him.
Why did he have to stop his entire convoy because of one phone call?
But who was he talking to self? Was he calling the love of his life?
PSA: We do not condone any form of violence! But…story na story abeg.
Once upon a time, in the land where many people lack home training, two women were jejely walking down a street in Akure, on a peaceful Sunday afternoon.
That’s how one man came to ‘toast’ one of them.
As per, she didn’t like his face, she told him:
Instead of him to quietly chop his Ela, he started harrassing them:
And being the baddest babes that ever liveth…
They pounced on him and beat him so much until he fell inside the gutter.
But wait first…Maybe that’s not exactly what happened…
What if the man was a bad sharp guy that had girlfriends on every street in Akure.
And unfortunately for him, two of his girlfriends found out and became friends.
So they confronted him…
And instead of him to just confess, he said:
So they beat him very well for being a lying, cheating demon. The End.
It’s however unfortunate to note that not even one Nigerian university made the list.
In fact, there has never been a Nigerian university on the CWUR ranking since 2014.
In spite of this, Uganda, Egypt and South Africa were the only African countries on the list.
The CWUR based this ranking on 8 factors including: quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, influence, citations, publications, broad impact and patent.
This means an average Nigerian university does not meet any of these standards and cannot even match up to any of these international universities.
Looking at the alumni factor, after doing so much wahala to even get a degree in Nigeria, there are no jobs available for the graduates.
The extent of the failing education sector comes to light every other day and must be addressed!
For Nigeria to move forward and progress, the system responsible for grooming and producing citizens that will enforce this change has to be fixed.
What would you do if the Nigerian government blocked all social media apps for days because of some troublemakers?
Well, in Ethiopia, the most embarrassing exam leak happened when questions to an end-of-year exam which was to be taken by 254,000 university students leaked all over the internet in May.
And like typical Nigerian parents, the Ethiopian government blocked all the popular social media sites for few days, as per the students like pressing their phones too much.
Na wa o! Instead of them to tackle the exam malpractice problem directly.
Technology didn’t kuku stop people from cheating in exams before Twitter and Instagram were created.
But sha, can you imagine the Nigerian government taking this sort of ‘disciplinary action’ on its citizens? Very possible, right?
Nigerian students when they see leaked questions on the internet…
However, Ethiopians aren’t keeping quiet, the ones who currently have access to social media outside the country have condemned this action.
This is nothing but an unconstitutional State of Emergency. The Ethiopian government have no legal basis or… https://t.co/ISMZTd9v8U
Shortly after the media uproar, Ese was released to her parents but unfortunately, she was already pregnant at the time. Yinusa was however arrested and placed in police custody.
However, after spending 4 months in detention, he was released on bail and was pictured at the airport, on his way to Kano.
Being a vocal and outspoken group of people, Nigerians showed their dismay at this development.
Kidnap a 13 year old girl, rape/impregnate her, get a SAN on your defence team, get bail, go home. SHAME ON NIGERIA. https://t.co/FyIrqBfxfd
British-Nigerian actor, David Oyelowo, through the GEANCO Foundation has created a scholarship to help girls who are victims of gender inequality and terrorism.
In a press release, he explained that the war against injustice and oppression can only be won by speaking against it and providing lasting solutions to the problem.
Although some of the Nigerian girls who were kidnapped by terrorists have been rescued, David Oyelowo believes so much more can be done to rehabilitate them and help mold them into successful Nigerian women.
According to him, the scholarship will receive financial support from his wife Jessica, American pro-footballer, Warren Moon, and Oprah Winfrey.
Three leadership scholarships will be provided for the 2016/2017 school session and the recipients will be admitted into Anglican Girls Grammar School in Abuja.
Well done, David! We hope the Nigerian government follows in his steps and do what’s necessary.
With the progress of the world into more advanced times, one would think some men would quit giving women ridiculous tips on ‘How To Keep A Man’.
Just when it looked like Nigerian Twitter was going to get through the weekend without any drama, a ‘motivational Tweeter’, Sola Adio, hit us with his nugget of the day…
He compared a woman’s vagina to a fan belt, advising women to close their legs.
Lets pretend to understand his ridiculous message for a minute and imagine he was preaching abstinence. Even at that, he forgot to mention how abstinence could be practiced by MEN and WOMEN.
The way some men keep telling women what to do with their bodies, when/who to have sex with has become boring, sincerely…
But will some Nigerian men die if they call a vagina by its biological name? All of us kuku went to school and studied biology.
Can they stop making nonsense analogies about a penis being a master key and a vagina being the padlock that mustn’t be opened by any key.
It’s about time, people stop seeing sex as some sort of gift or favour, it’s not chin chin!
And for the olodos at the back, a vagina, which is responsible for the birth of a child CANNOT be slacked by any penis.

And it was in this moment that Nigerian musician, Brymo, chose to share another dose of ridiculousness. According to him, the black man ‘likes to suffer’.
Just a few weeks ago, he told someone who begged him to help fund his education to drop out of school.
And in this sensitive moment, he decided to blame black people for these killings.
Brymo has kuku shown his true colours.
When someone that says school is important says something shows us the importance of school…
Brymo needs to probably take history classes and learn what racism is really about.
And if he was trying to be Fela, he has obviously failed, woefully.
