The Nigerian power situation has been especially bad this year, due to militants’ sabotaging gas pipelines up east of the country. In March, power generation capacity actually fell from 5000 MW to a miserable 1,580.6 MW. With the help of the Japanese government however, light, it seems is now at the end of this very dark tunnel.
Brethren, it looks like our situation is finally about to change for the better! Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola is seen here inspecting the brand new solar-panels at Usman Dam, Abuja.
The panels were donated by the Japanese government, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency, and are worth a whooping $9.7 million dollars!
We think it’s time to actually fast and pray for this country called Japan, because these guys must be angels of the good Lord.
The newly donated solar panels are expected to generate 1,496WH of power, and reduce electricity payment by N31.5 million per year.
The implication is that you and I will now pay less for more electricity-we hope!
To be honest, we are getting really tired of the NEPA wahala! Every time no light! We can’t charge phones, we can’t iron clothes for work and we can’t even watch Telemundo in peace!
So we really hope this donation translates to tangible, visible results; a lot of companies are finding it difficult to continue operations in Nigeria because of the mess that is our power situation.
We can’t wait for a time when we get to use clean, stable energy, and finally throw these annoyingly loud, pollution-inducing demons away.
When Brazilian photographer, Vinicius Terra Nova, decided to do a photo series he named, ‘Flores Raras’ (translated as Rare Flowers) with these three sisters, magic was the only expected result.
The twins, Lara and Mara who have albinism slayed this shoot with their elder sister, Sheila.
It’s hard to get over how beautiful they look.
Look at how the twin’s creamy skins glow beautifully against Sheila’s popping dark skin.
They’re giving serious hair goals.
Se them serving artsy vibes in this upside-down shot.

If you’re Nigerian, and you don’t live under a rock then you are most likely aware of the Nigerian government’s poor treatment of Nigerian athletes. It was actually quite surprising that our U-23 team was able to bag a bronze at the Rio Olympics. Considering that, it’s no wonder these athletes of Nigerian descent did not represent the country.
1. Kemi Adekoya
23-year-old Adekoya switched nationalities in 2014, after failing to qualify to represent Nigeria at the 2012 London Olympics. She represented Bahrain in 400m at the Rio Olympics, although she didn’t make it to the finals.
2. Femi Ogunode
Born in 1991, Femi moved to Qatar in 2009, and began competing for the oil-rich nation in 2010. He previously ran for University of Ibadan, and even qualified for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. For unknown reasons, he never actually went on to the event. He represented Qatar in both 100m and 200m races in Rio. Femi is currently Asia’s fastest man.
3. Morolake Akinosun
Born in Lagos in 1994, Akinosun represented and won gold for America in the 2015 Pan-African Games in Toronto. She also represented the country in 4x100m relay in Rio, winning another gold.
4. Ezinne Okpaerebo
Ezinne represented Norway at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and again in the 2012 London Olympics. The 28-year-old Norwegian who was born in Nigeria and who originally hails from Imo State, is currently Norway’s fastest woman.
5. Ayomide Folorunsho
Born in Abeokuta in 1996, Folorunsho represented Italy in the World Championships in Beijing (2015), and the European Championships in Amsterdam (2016). She competed for Italy in the 400m hurdles and 400 x 100m in Rio.
6. Abubakar Abass
Born in Kano State in 1996, Abbas has won a silver medal in 400m for his adopted country Bahrain. He also represented the country in 400m race at the Rio Olympics.
7. Francis Obilekwu
This sprinter got injured representing Nigeria at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, but didn’t get any support from the government for his surgery in Canada. However, he went on to represent Portugal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and won a silver medal for his adopted country.
8. Marlilyn Okoro
Born to Igbo parents, Okoro is a British track and field athlete. She represented Britain in the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as at the IAAF and World Athletic Championships.
9. Edidion Efonime Odiong
This incredibly fast Nigerian sprinter represents Bahrain, and won the 200m race at the IAAF
U-20 Championships, 2016. The 19 year old was also at Rio to represent Bahrain, but unfortunately did not make it to the finals.
10. Barbara Udoezi Nwaba
Born to Igbo parents in 1987, Barbara ran track for her school: University of California, Santa Barbara. She represented America at the Rio Olympics in Shot put, javelin and 800m race.
In April 2014, 276 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno state, were kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists and till date, many of them remain in captivity. Although some of the girls managed to escape, including those rescued by Nigerian soldiers over time, the current plight of the other girls yet to be rescued remains a cause for concern.
Knowing the relevance of telling Nigerian stories as a way of spreading awareness, Nigerian filmmaker, Uche Aguh, wrote and directed ‘Sambisa’.
‘Sambisa’, a short film based on the short play titled, ‘Into The Sambisa’, narrates the story of the unfortunate kidnapping in 2014.
This short film will premiere across Nigeria later during the year.
In the mean time, you can watch the trailer below:
The Economist Intelligence Unit released a Global Liveability Report yesterday, and surprise-surprise, our beloved Lagos City ranked among the 5 WORST cities to live in : 138th of 140 countries ranked.
So apparently, these people think our one and only Lagos is not all that.
In 2015, Lagos ranked 4th worst city to live in: 137th of 140 cities surveyed.
The overall Liveability Score for Lagos is 36 of 100, with the least scores coming from the Stability Category.
High crime rates as well as civil unrest are everyday realities in Lagos.
The city’s ranking implies that most aspects of living are terribly constricted and not acceptable in global standards.
Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria, covering 0.4% of the country’s territorial landscape.
Education and Healthcare in Lagos had miserable figures -well below average, with war-torn Tripoli (Libya) actually scoring higher.
A 2010 report revealed that 45.2% of girls in a Lagos slum have never attended school.
The continuing urbanization of Lagos is gradually turning it into a Mega City, and the city’s expansion is estimated to continue over the next decade.
Lagos is the major hub for the head-quarters of numerous global and national companies, and accounts for over 60% of industrial activities in Nigeria.
Epileptic power supply and an exploding population of about 22 million- leading to terrible traffic snarls- are among the city’s biggest challenges.
How to avoid traffic in Lagos: 1) Drive only between 11pm and 4am 2) Buy helicopter 3) Become governor 4) Be a witch 5) Don't come to Lagos.
Although the report wrongly places the bulk of Lagos’ challenges on the threat of Boko Haram, conflict has seen more migration to Lagos from the North.
The terrorist group’s activities were restricted to the North-Eastern parts of the country, and Lagos was never a red-zone.
The EIU report ranked Lagos just above war-torn Tripoli (Libya).
Damascus, Syria is currently ranked the worst city to live in.
Lagos scored highest in the Culture and Environment Category, although some parts of the city are extremely dirty and face serious environmental threats.
Careless waste disposal in slums and ‘urban’ areas are dangerously on the rise.
But it’s not all gloom in Lagos. The past 12 months have seen massive reconstruction of roads and bridges as well as the beefing-up of security . A light -rail project is in place and the Eko Atlantic City is nearing completion.
An artist’s impression of what Marina will will look like when the light-rail project is completed.
The U-23 team finally clinched a medal in the Rio 2016 Olympics and we still can’t believe it.
The team faced Honduras in a battle for the Bronze title after loosing 2-0 to Germany in the semi-finals.
The Nigerian team dominated the game for the first 80 minutes with 3 goals from Sadiq Umar and Aminu Umar.
We seriously thought we had the bronze in the bag until Anthony Lozano and Marcelo Pereira won 2 goals for Team Honduras in the final 20 minutes.
This was us when we saw they had added 4 minutes of extra time to the game.
Mercifully, the whistle was blown and Team Nigeria WON!
Nigeria’s football bronze was the only medal the country managed to clinch in Rio. A tiny step-up from the London 2012 Summer Olympics performance where we had zero medals.
Nigeria is the first African country to have completed a sweep of Olympic medals: Atlanta ’96 Gold, Beijing ’08 Silver and now Rio ’16 Bronze.
Meanwhile, the Japanese plastic surgeon who promised the team a whooping $390,000 if they won actually came through!
And get this, this good Samaritan actually traveled down to Brazil from Tokyo, to cheer the boys during their game against Honduras.
Takasu said he was deeply moved by the Dream team’s financial challenges and extremely resilient spirit.
His actions are in sharp contrast to that of Nigerian billionaires, who were not able to assist Nigerian athletes, after the government had shown little or no support for them.
Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man promised the Super Eagles $1 million after their 2013 African Cup of Nations win, but the money has not been disbursed to date.
As Tokyo 2020 closes in, we hope there’ll be a complete overhaul of the Nigerian Sports ministries and its agencies, so real heroes like these can be properly motivated and compensated.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) is making plans to establish exam center in foreign countries to enable easy access for candidates who want to study in Nigeria.
JAMB’s Media and Information head, Mr Fabian Benjamin, explained that the Board also plans to ensure more candidates are able to write the UTME exams within and outside the country.
He stated that this step was taken so that candidates in the Diaspora who want to study in Nigeria shouldn’t have to go through the stress of travelling down to write an exam.
Although JAMB’s UTME exam is currently being conducted in countries such as Cameroun, Saudi Arabia and Ghana, they aim to spread their reach to countries such as the U.S and others.
We kuku have a few questions. Will the 180 cut-off mark also apply to these candidates?
Considering the history of Nigerian examination bodies, will the exams in such centres be properly conducted?

A Nigerian weightlifter, after finishing 8th in her group, has decided to boycott the Olympics until things change for better.
Looking at the general performance of the Nigerian team at the Olympics and how badly prepared Nigerian athletes were, it’s only enough to admit that the Nigerian sports sector needs some sort of reform.
Mariam Hassan, who was the only Nigerian weightlifter at the Olympics couldn’t be more disappointed after facing competitors who were better trained with quality equipment.
According to her, it’s useless to compete at the Olympics without winning any medal. She believes Nigerian athletes, when given access to quality training and proper sponsorship, are capable of competing with the best athletes in the world.
She says the most painful part is how the athletes are expected to ‘miraculously’ win gold medals after receiving little support from the Nigerian government.
Mariam has decided to only represent Nigeria in forthcoming Olympics on the condition that better training facilities are provided and things in the sporting sector generally change for the better. One can only imagine how these athletes feel, considering the fact that many of them made it as far as the semi finals of their categories.
This year’s Olympics should serve as a lesson for Nigeria. In the past, Nigeria was one of the top countries that placed Africa on the international sporting map. However, Rio Olympics shows how bad things have become.
We hope this event will make the Nigerian sports ministry take responsibility and change things for the better.
You might be a Nigerian jollof fan or a Ghanaian jollof fan. You might think that Jamie Oliver’s jollof was on point or you might believe it was disgusting. You might not even like jollof rice (what is wrong with you?). But you have to agree that jollof rice is important.
So this World Jollof Rice Day (yes, this is a thing), MAGGI Nigeria and Kitchen Butterfly have organised a special event to celebrate World Jollof Day. Here’s what’s going down:
1. A Jollof Rice exhibition.
Involving food art from super-creative Haneefah Adams (@muslimahanie) and the winners of the Instagram Photo Contest for World Jollof Rice Day.
2. A lesson on the history of Jollof Rice.
For those of you who want to know were jollof comes from (hint: heaven).
3. A chat with the convener of the first Wolof/Jolof Exhibition.
His name is Folakunle Oshun and he’s a sculptor. And a jollof rice lover.
4. A book meet on “Jollof Rice in Literature.”
Who knew that jollof rice was so deep?
Wana Udobong, Ozoz Sokoh and Amanda Chukwudozie will be discussing Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie, Without a Silver Spoon by Eddie Iroh and other books. Eghosa Imasuen, author of fine boys will moderate and they’ll discuss themes like the cultural significance of Jollof, Jollof Rice across ethnic and socioeconomic barriers and Jollof as comfort food.
(Seriously though, who knew?)
5. An actual meal of Jollof Rice from Ghana High
Now you’re talking!
6. And finally, the after-party!
Because ain’t no party like a Jollof party…
7. And it’s going down this Sunday 21st August…
… at Whitespace (58 Raymond Njoku, Ikoyi, Lagos) between 4 and 7 pm. They said you should come hungry, we agree!
While some Nigerian musicians like Tiwa Savage and Wizkid are gradually taking over the world with their artistry, a certain D-List musician, Peeshaun from musical duo, Skuki, has decided that the next path in life for him is to write books.
That shouldn’t be a bad idea actually. People can decide to shelve their creativity for a while and show the world their intellectual side.
But when the said book is about the same old boring relationship advice for women, you can imagine how hard we rolled our eyes.
As if the ridiculous ‘Act Like A Woman, Think Like A Man’ ideology isn’t bad enough, Peeshaun’s book aims to teach women ‘how to make their man fall in love over and over again’.
He claims his book aims to dish quality relationship advice to single women aged 18-40 from a guy’s point of view.
Words are not enough to describe how ridiculous that is. But one thing needs to be said, women don’t need any more ‘think pieces’ on how to keep a man, sincerely, mind your business!
Instead, Peeshaun needs to mind his business and probably work on being the A-list musicians, Skuki have been trying to become all these years.
For the first time, Nollywood movies will be showing at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival happening in September 2016.
Breaking the news on her Instagram page, Nollywood actress, Omoni Oboli congratulated the producers of the selected movies.
The movies were selected in the City to City category, which highlights filmmakers living and working in a selected city. Movie producers from Lagos were considered during the selection regardless of the cities their movies were set in.
In addition to this awesome news, Nollywood actors, OC Ukeje and Somkele will be featured as part of the Rising Stars of the festival
Some of the movies selected include: ’76’, The Arbitration, ‘Just Not Married’, ’93 Days’, ‘Okafor’s Law’, ‘Green White Green, ‘Taxi Driver Oko Ashewo’ and ‘The Wedding Party’.

He currently has 5 gold medals to his name after winning gold medals at the African Junior Championships in 2013 and 2015.
Being a vocal and unapologetic individual, Divine called out the Nigerian sports ministry for not paying proper attention to athletes, especially after qualifying for the Olympics.
The historical movie which has been in the works since 2012, was shot in the ancient city of Ibadan.
’76’, which is set 6 years after the Nigerian civil war features real life and archived footage, in addition to that, scenes from the movie were shot in an actual military barracks.
Also, the cast members were trained in the Nigerian Defence Academy for 21 days and the entire production received approval and backing from the Nigerian military.
’76’ tells the story through the eyes of a soldier, played by Ramsey Nouah, who was accused of assassinating General Murtala Mohammed, and his pregnant wife, played by Rita Dominic.
Although the movie is yet to be released for public viewing, former President Obasanjo was treated to a private screening with some of the film actors on August 15.
The movie is coming soon to cinemas. Meanwhile, you can watch the trailer below:
Something interesting happened one peaceful Owambe Saturday like that and we thought to bring the amebo to you, you’re welcome!
As we all know, the single life isn’t always fun. And that’s what made one Nigerian man slide into the DMs of a peng woman he met via Facebook.
After seizing the bae and finding true love, they decided the next step for them was to walk down the aisle. Not bad abi?
But on their wedding day, the unexpected happened!
The bride ran out of their wedding venue in Eket, Akwa Ibom after finding out her groom didn’t work in Oil and Gas as he claimed.
Unfortunately for her, she couldn’t run like Usain Bolt and people from the wedding caught up with her and dragged her to the wedding.
So she ended up going back to the church and marrying the guy o! THE END!
This bride was actually seen running from her wedding in Eket, but no-one knows what really happened sha.

The fact that black people are amazing in every aspect of life that exists isn’t news. During the ongoing Rio Olympics, several black athletes have slayed so hard, these hashtags come to mind: #BlackGirlMagic#BlackMagic#BlackIsMagic#BlackPeopleSlay!
1. Simone ‘Superhuman’ Biles
There are not enough words to explain why this amazing athlete has to top the list. She is the world’s most dominant gymnast and she’s so great she has a signature move nobody in the world has ever achieved named after her, The Biles.
Her performance during 10,000 metre race where she broke world and Olympic records has been described as the greatest athletic performance ever seen. She was the first athlete to put Africa on the map at the Rio Olympics when she won the gold medal for the race.
4. Wayde van Niekerk
Trained by his 74-year-old great grandmother, Wayde not only won South Africa’s first gold medal, but also broke a 17-year-old world record during the 400m men’s race. His ability to break a world record from the 8th lane was so amazing, Usain Bolt came all the way to congratulate him.
5. Jemima Jelagat Sumgong
Despite the fact that a strange man who was later arrested tried to disrupt the marathon race, Jemima still gunned for gold and won after completing the 40Km marathon race after 2 hours and 24 minutes.
In a moment he thought was the end of his Rio 2016 Olympic dream, Mo Farah tripped and fell during the 10,000 metre race. But rather than give up, this British athlete clawed his way from the bottom and still won the race, like a boss!
One of the cabin crew members of Etihad Airways, Alexander George, happened to be in Lagos for a few days in August and he had interesting things to say.
In a post on his now private Instagram page, he stated that he was in Lagos, an interesting destination that’s so dangerous, they can’t leave their hotel.
Really?
Nigerians angrily went into his Instagram page to drag him for making that kind of statement.
But is this type of ignorance really bliss?
Some Nigerians are already planning to boycott Etihad Airways because of the statement their staff made.
Getting escorted doesn’t always spell danger!
Maybe the people at Etihad need to give their staff some home training.
Instead of him to jejely stay in his hotel and face front, he’s doing unnecessary amebo.
It’s not like flight attendants can roam about a country during work, it’s not a vacation abeg!
Every country in the world has locations that are regarded as dangerous spots.
The fact that a country has dangerous spots doesn’t necessarily make the entire country unsafe. We’re in 2016, people need to stop being ignorant abeg!
That said, Nigerians need to acknowledge the problems going on in the country rather than being defensive whenever someone from outside points them out.
Usain Bolt won his 7th Olympic Gold in Rio, and he did it smiling! The 29-year-old Jamaican won the 100m Gold in Beijing ’08, and London’12, and has secured his title as the fastest man on Earth. We got the best internet reactions for you, you’re very welcome!
Look at this greatness. Soak it in. Now you understand why Usain Bolt broke the internet.
24-year-old Robel Kiros Habte, out of his love for swimming joined the Olympic team to represent his country, Ethiopia, at the Summer Olympics in Rio. Unfortunately for him, haters had a lot to say about his weight.
During the competition, Robel came 59th out of the 59 competitors and even got cut from the camera.
After this poor performance, he was badly body shamed for his 179 pound weight and was even given a horrible nickname, “Robel The Whale”.
Although reports say he was only able to join the team with the influence of his father, who is the president of the Ethiopian Swimming Federation, Robel has decided to not give up on swimming.
He explained that he wanted to do something different for his country for the first time. In his words, “My country is famous for runners. I wanted to be famous for being a swimmer”.
Speaking to Daily Mail about his current body size, he shared how he gained a lot of weight after surviving a car accident.
While these negative comments have put him off from contesting in the next Olympics, Habte has sworn to shut all the haters down by working hard and placing his name in other international swimming competitions.
In spite of his poor performance, he’s proud to be an Olympian and that should be the most important thing.
And although his entry into the Olympics may have been out of corruption and not merit, body shaming him will not change the fact that he was the 1st Ethiopian to swim at the Olympics.
In the football world, the name of Brazilian football legend, Edson Arantes do Nascimiento, who was named after inventor, Thomas Edison, will never cease to be mentioned. Almost 60 years after making his first appearance in Nigeria during the famous ceasefire of the Nigerian civil war, Pele will be in Nigeria for a series of football events, happening in Lagos later in 2016. Although he was earlier scheduled to visit Nigeria on August 11, his trip was postponed due to reports of his ill health on August 5.
To celebrate the arrival of this legend, here are 13 iconic pictures of the amazing Pele:
1. When he was just a little boy.
2. When he shed tears of joy after winning the first World Cup for Brazil in 1958.
3. When he became the youngest winner of a World Cup at 17.
4. During his first visit to Nigeria during the civil war.
5. That time his team carried him up high after Brazil won the World Cup yet again in 1970.
6. Pele sharing a hug with the incredible Mohammed Ali in 1977.
7. This picture was taken at the famous football match he played during the civil war in Nigeria.
8. When he delivered the most effortless bicycle kick we’ve ever seen in 1968.
9. This picture of two of the greatest Brazilian footballers ever.
10. He was basically chilling with his medals like a bad guy.
11. That time his team mates celebrated his 1000-goal count in 1969.
12. When he had to leave the pitch after getting injured during a match against Portugal in 1966.
13. This adorable picture of him playing football with children on the beach.
We wish him a speedy recovery so he can come and visit us soon!
We are in the era where blackness is celebrated across the world. People of colour are beginning to wear their culture proudly and standing tall against all forms of racial discrimination.
Also, the 1st black president of the U.S, Barack Obama, will be stepping down later in 2016 after 8 years in office. As expected, this has to be the most talked about topic of the year.
Chimamanda Adichie, being very vocal about political issues, spoke about Barack Obama’s election and his amazing wife, Michelle.
However, this doesn’t mean women who choose to not wear their natural hair are any less. It is not a battle about what type of hair is better.
For those who were reaching, it’ll be nice to not forget that she also said an afro should only be regarded as normal hair which is only right.
If a 3-year-old child, Blue Ivy, was getting backlash especially from black people for wearing her natural hair, what do you think would’ve happened if Michelle wore her natural hair?
I'm so tired of blue ivy's lil nappy hair. Beyonce needs to get her stylist on that. Or mamma Tina. Somebody. Anybody. Please! 🙏🙌😩😩
In 2015, the most talked about show in Nigeria, ‘Wakaa! The Musical‘ first premiered at the Muson Center in Lagos to a sold-out audience.
Following its success in Nigeria, Bolanle Austen-Peters, the brain behind the musical decided to take it to the international scene with its London premiere in July 2016.
Bolanle, who has been in the theater industry for 12 years got the inspiration to go into musicals after seeing Fela on Broadway 2 years ago.
The highly satirical production was on for 7 days at the Shaw Theatre and was sold out on the the opening night!
Wakaa! tells the experiences of 6 friends from different backgounds who made a bet on their graduation to be successful in their various fields. The show basically highlights Nigerian politics and the struggles young Nigerians face at home and abroad.
In case you missed it, you can watch highlights of the show below:
In 1984, President Buhari launched the War Against Indiscipline brigade during his military rule to curb indiscipline and corruption in the country. At the time, the brigade flogged people who jumped queues, and those who were thought to be corrupt were detained.
Although very little has been heard of this brigade since then, President Buhari has relaunched this brigade that was met with criticism roughly one year after his election as civilian President in 2016.
This relaunch, however, didn’t sit well with Nigerians.
WAI infantilised, traumatised and dehumanised Nigerians. I recall it with revulsion and fear. A horrible relic unsalvageable in any form.
As if Nigerian athletes haven’t gone through enough problems already, they were once again let down at the Rio 2016 Opening Ceremony due to poor planning by the Nigerian Olympic Committee.
The Opening Ceremony is the official start of every Olympic Games, and Vanderlei de Lima, a former Brazilian athlete opened it this time around.
Athletes from different countries filed out in a colorful parade, dressed very beautifully, especially this flag bearer from Tonga.
How Nigerians waited for our athletes to appear in killer outfits, because we slay at this Aso Ebi game.
But imagine our shock when Team Nigeria came out in track suits, not looking super-excited to be at the Olympics. But can we blame them?
The athletes had to wear track suits because the traditional attire was not available.
We’re not lying, seriously, just look at the circular that was passed by the CBN.
Can you imagine that?
At a time where many people in the North-East are suffering from starvation and lack of medical support, this gist cannot be any more shocking and mind boggling.
Perhaps they think those of us that have been buying the dollar at almost N400 have two heads sha.
Abi do they think we’re children of Satan that don’t deserve good things?
When you realise the government is wasting money on pilgrimage while most of its citizens can’t afford the current exchange rate.
Nigerian government and all the leaders, abeg:
We will not take this o! The Nigerian government should fix this economy instead of doing ojoro up and down.
Yesterday, President Barack Obama wrote an amazing essay for Glamour Magazine titled “This Is What a Feminist Looks Like“. This came a few months after his wonderful remarks at the first White House Summit on the ‘United States of Women’. In his essay, he highlighted the importance of the father-daughter relationship in raising young women unafraid to speak up and be the best they can be.
As a parent, helping your kids to rise above these constraints is a constant learning process. Michelle and I have raised our daughters to speak up when they see a double standard or feel unfairly judged based on their gender or race—or when they notice that happening to someone else.
It’s important for them to see role models out in the world who climb to the highest levels of whatever field they choose. And yes, it’s important that their dad is a feminist, because now that’s what they expect of all men.Barack Obama
This inspired us at Zikoko to celebrate the relationship between black fathers and their daughters:
1. Steph Curry and his little fireball, Riley.
2. Benny Harlem and his daughter, Jaxyn, giving us hair goals!
3. AY and his daughter, Michelle.
4. Muhammad Ali and his mini-me, Laila.
5. Kunle Afolayan braiding his daughter, Eyiyemi’s hair.
6. The rapper, The Game, and his adorable little girl.
7. President Muhammadu Buhari and two of his daughters, Zahra and Halimat.
8. Basketmouth and his daughter, Janelle.
9. RMD and his two lovely daughters.
10. Jay Z and his daughter, Blue Ivy.
11. Pastor Tony Rapu and his beautiful daughters, Kene and Uju.
12. Will Smith and his daughter, Willow.
13. President Barack Obama and his oldest daughter, Malia.
In case you missed it, the Super Eagles Under-23 Team has clinched its first victory at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, despite some serious glitches.
Even after Olivia the Parrot (soccer psychic) predicted a Japan win, the U-23 team beat Japan 5-4, bringing Nigeria her first win at Rio 2016.
This victory comes as a big surprise, considering the incredible amount of stress the U-23 team members went through just hours before the match.
The Nigerian sports ministry, ever so organized, somehow had the team stranded in Atlanta, USA. The team missed a flight last Friday due to a communications mix-up.
Another flight was booked for Wednesday this week, but unfortunately could not transport all the team members at once.
Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung while addressing the cause for the delay implied that the government was not responsible for it.
"@Ayodeji_13: Ladies and Gentlemen , Meet Solomon Dalung, United States of Nigeria"s Youth and Sports Dev. Minister. https://t.co/vUPfp4MQfD
Planning and logistics for the team is the direct responsibility of the Nigerian Football Federation, but would it hurt if the sports minister showed some concern?
Delta Airlines had to come to our rescue. General Manager, Mike Lowry, and his team prepped a plane in time for an early flight to Manaus, 6 hours before the game, FREE OF CHARGE!
The drama did not end there. A wrong National Anthem was mistakenly played before the match.
Even after that experience, Oghenekharo Etebo scored 4 goals in a single match! That was after Sadiq Umar scored a goal in the first 7 minutes of the game.
We just want to thank the Nigerian Government, especially the Honorable Minister for Sports, Solomon Dalung, for all the support they’ve shown the Dream Team VI so far.
In fact, the way our government is treating Nigerian Athletes representing us at Rio 2016 is too wonderful! Continue!
Against all odds, we see our team is ever ready. According to Team Captain Mikel Obi: “We may be tired and frustrated, but we’re all still together and ready to win gold in Rio.”
Nigerian Athletes, please continue with the good work o! We wish you all another amazing Atlanta ’96 win!
On Sunday July 31, the mother of turn ups happened in Lagos. If you missed the 500dishesFoodfest, you really dulled yourself.
Because food was just flowing like river Niger, just ask the people that bought Eat-It-All tickets.
And there were so many baby boys and girls.
The slayage was unrivalled!
Even though the rain didn’t want us to prosper, some of us just opened our umbrellas and continued to slay.
And while the DJ was blasting quality gbedu, one sister was forming bigz girl and was listening to music on her phone. Na wa o!
As you already know that Zikoko makes everything better, we hosted the Zikoko Hunger Games.
The first game was pepper soup battles, and the competition was simple. We wanted to know how fast the competitors could finish a plate of pepper soup.
When the game began, they sharply downed their pepper soup in seconds.
And some of them didn’t even care about their fleeking make up.
After eating the pieces of meat in her bowl at the speed of light, Mary proved to be a pepper soup warrior and won the competition.
And because we wanted everybody to be happy, we launched our second game, First To Finish.
This time around, the game was a food relay where a team of 3 had to finish 3 different food courses on time.
As expected, the players were ready to die on the line as per there was Shawarma, small chops and Jollof rice to be devoured.
Instead of quickly eating her small chops, this aunty in the corner was forming shakara and hiding her mouth from us.
When it was time to eat the Jollof rice, some people were still forming ajebutter.
Eh ya! The ajebutter crew dropped out of the competition when they couldn’t keep up with the rest.
At the end, Segun, Tomi and Chukkie won the game!
And because we aren’t stingy koko, the winners went home with 10,000 cash, food vouchers and other gifts.
We had plenty fun and can’t wait for the next food festival.
This was how many people left the food festival after eating everything on their ticket.
Yesterday we gave you the gist on Pastor Adeboye’s advice to young men on their choice of wives, and trust Nigerians to have a serious debate on the topic.
Nigerian Twitter was on fire with reactions, and we compiled the funniest tweets for you, you’re welcome!
Since some ladies disagreed with Daddy G.O, someone predicted what their relationship status would be in two years:
This information came from Uber’s analysis of over 1 million rides taken since they launched in Lagos, and as their data sample obviously does not account for where people who ride the BRTs and Danfos go, this list is probably incomplete.
1. The Palms Shopping Mall
If you have money to shop here, you can ride in Ubers. Kontinu.
2. Ikeja City Mall
A lot like The Palms, but for mainland people.
3. Adrenaline Sports Bar at The Four Points Sheraton
And we’re right back to the Island…
4. The Soul Lounge Lagos
Island vs Mainland: 2-1.
5. Eko Hotel And Suites
Basically where all the Lagos bigz men and bigz women hang out, for business and pleasure.
6. Radisson Blu Anchorage
Lagosians who know what’s up know this is really here because of Hans and Rene gelato, but it’s okay.
7. Lagos Oriental Hotel
Another conference den.
8. The Place Nightclub
Isn’t this the place where one human was pouring alcohol over another human’s head? Seen.
9. Lafayette Mall
For those who weren’t keeping score, it’s now – Island vs Mainland: 7-2. Hian.
10. Dream Plaza
Another one for the Island? We demand a rematch. Or at least an explanation about why the Muritala Mohammed Airport is not on this list.
While addressing his congregation during a convention last year, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church Of God, Reverend E.A Adeboye, dropped some really deep nuggets and we thought to share with you guys.
Apparently, people were arguing about cooking on Twitter.
And someone went to dig up this 1-year-old video just to prove his point.
According to him, men shouldn’t marry women who are lazy or can’t cook.
In his words, “Don’t marry a girl who cannot cook, she needs to know how to do chores and cook because you cannot afford to be eating out all the time”.
He also said, “Marry a prayer warrior! If a girl cannot pray for one hour, don’t marry her. Don’t marry a girl who is lazy”.
You can watch the full video below:
But we only came to give you this amebo sha. What do you think if Daddy G.O’s marriage advice? Express yourself in the comments section.
There’s always scarcity of one thing or another in this country. Mostly its petrol or money, but in the past months tomatoes did us strong thing!
The scarcity was caused by Tuta Absoluta, also known as tomato ebola, a moth species which led to the destruction of 80 percent of tomato farms in Jigawa, Katsina, Kano and Kaduna States.
The price of a basket of tomatoes basically rose from about N800 to over N25,000. Governor El-Rufai even sent a delegation to Kenya to find solutions to this saucy problem, because things like this started happening…
The delegates carried their bags to Kenya to get some answers to the wahala.
Kenyans were just looking at us like…
But to God be the glory, the price of tomatoes are finally back to normal, and we have the rains to thank. Apparently, those rude moths can only mutate in the dry season, and don’t survive in the rainy season.
Now tomatoes are in abundance and we can finally do this…
The world is slowly coming to accept that women can aspire to be whatever they want to be. In this inspiring story shared by UNICEF, this Ghanaian woman once again shows us there’s nothing wrong in following ones dreams.
Like most of our parents, Rosemary Amposah’s mother always wanted her to be a nurse, doctor or at least join the police force. She believed people in such occupations were highly respected.
However, plans changed when she graduated from high school and started working as a sales attendant at a filling station because there were only few jobs around. Unfortunately, her job brought little fulfillment.
Surprisingly, her father proved to be far from the typical African father when he encouraged her to learn welding and enrolled her in an institution to help with her training even though her mother hated it.
Joining the school made her the first girl in her class with other 15 boys, and instead of cheering her on, most people only passed negative comments. Especially a man who said her job was going to prevent her from getting married and having children.
In spite of the long distance (she walks to her school) and all the negativity, Rosemary doesn’t even care about what the haters have to say.
It’s funny how people never mention how a man’s job will prevent him from having children or getting married.
Well sha, we’re very inspired by Rosemary’s story and wish her the best!
Since she became really popular, Kylie Jenner has been labelled for being astonishingly unoriginal. But we’re not one to give you gist without receipts.
For one, some people believe her newly acquired lips look exactly like the average black woman’s lips but we’re not judging her sha.
Remember that time she launched her lip kit collection? Well, guess what? The ingredients were alleged to be pretty similar to a $6 lipstick produced by ColourPop cosmetics.
And in the name of throwing shade at her boyfriend’s ex, she kept on jacking Blac Chyna’s style. But we unlooked, as per, fashion isn’t only for one person.
Just when the internet forgave her for her copy-copy ways, she launched her eye shadow collection, Kyshadow.
But she’s currently being dragged by her weave for stealing one Youtuber’s eye shadow palette.
