#NairaLife: She’s Tired of Being Her Family’s Financial Backup Plan

Today’s story is a masterclass in the non-linear nature of life. One day you have a job offer. You reply too late, and now it’s gone.

This 27-year-old lawyer is the last of six children in a family that grew up very poor. Now that she’s making money, her family looks to her for their daily bread, and she’s tired.

An excerpt: “In addition to taking care of her children, my mum also takes care of all her siblings and my dad’s siblings too. So when her mum died, everyone looked to her to sponsor the funeral. She told them the money was for my law school, and they said they didn’t care.

  • What Kind Of Help Are Nigerian Flood Victims Getting?

What Kind Of Help Are Nigerian Flood Victims Getting?

We know a lot of things are happening right now but let’s not forget that millions of Nigerians are still suffering the effects of flooding. Although coverage of the issue has reduced, it’s important that we keep in mind that a large part of over 30 Nigerian states are under water.

This is not just a case of rains spoiling your plans in October and November because over 612 people have died and millions have lost their homes, means of livelihood and members of their families.

The crisis is far from over.

Apart from the direct impact on people, the Nigerian economy has been hit too by the floods, with rice farmlands in Nigeria’s food-basket states being affected, leading to the loss of $20 million.

It also affected Nigeria’s daily earnings in global markets, as the Nigeria Liquefied and Natural Gas company (NLNG) called a ‘force Majeure on October 17, 2022, which halted profits that could have come from gas exports.

    Have people gotten help?

Although responses were slow in the beginning, some help has started getting to the victims.

Here are some of the heavy donors so far:

    The United States

The United States provided $ 1 million to flood victims through the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The funds were provided to help local partners and agencies with emergency shelters, relief commodities, and hygiene kits to promote safe and healthy practices, especially with the cholera outbreak that has been widespread across Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

    The Red Cross

The International Federation of the Red Cross/Red Crescent issued a Floods Emergency Appeal of $13 million. This was to provide clean water, emergency shelter, and cash assistance to half a million people in several states. The beneficiaries included severely affected states such as Adamawa, Anambra, Bayelsa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Yobe, and Zamfara.

    Jordan

The King of Jordan, Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein Al Hashimi donated useful relief items. These included food packages, clothing, blankets, and sanitary items for flood victims.

    Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

The royal couple donated funds for the flood victims in order to provide relief materials. The amount was unspecified. The donation was made to both UNICEF and Save the Children in Nigeria.

    Switzerland

In response to an emergency appeal by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, IFRC, Switzerland donated $756,000. This was to aid the IFRC and Nigerian Red Cross to provide relief support for victims.

    The Knights of St. John

A Nigerian Catholic group, the Knights of St John International, donated a sum of N8 million to various Catholic dioceses. These were located in Idah, Markurdi, Lokoja, Auchi, Bomadi, and Warri, as well as the archdioceses in Onitsha, and Owerri.

The donation is also expected to support the repair of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) institutions affected by floods.

    Donations from political candidates

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu donated a sum of N100 million to Kano flood victims. This happened during a party held in his honour in October 2022. 50 million naira was also donated to Bayelsa State flood victims by the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Lastly, Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, gave the sum of N5 million to flood victims in Benue. He also gave relief materials which included bread and noodles to Anambra state flood victims.

  • Yes, the Sibling Code Exists. How Many Do You Know?

Yes, the Sibling Code Exists. How Many Do You Know?

Everyone who has siblings knows that there’re some unwritten rules we unconsciously follow. As kids, the oldest siblings always had the biggest meat, but as an adult, the oldest sibling probably gives the youngest the sizeable chunks of meat, except you’re an agbaya. The older you get, the more the rules change.

If you have siblings, you can definitely relate to the sibling code listed below.

When your sibling looks good, you have to mention it

If little children compliment you, it means you look good, but if your sibling compliments you? Nobody outside looks finer than you that day. Depending on your sibling dynamics, you can legit hype them, tease about how they usually look like someone your parents picked from the road but now they’ve killed it or compliment them as if you were forced. The main point is that it must be mentioned. And if they look good every day, who sent them message? Mtchewww.

RELATED: 7 Things You Can Relate to if You Have Many Siblings

No one else should be able to insult your sibling

It is a universal rule that you can say your sibling doesn’t have sense, but the moment anyone else, including your parents, insults them too? We attack at sunrise. How dare anyone talk shit about your sibling?

If your sibling doesn’t stand up for you when you’re not in the room, ask your mum for the receipt so you can return them.

    Always respect the dibs

This one is more for your safety than for the code, tbh. If your sibling calls dibs on a specific snack in the fridge, a specific seat in the living room, or that sweet charging port beside the bed, just accept it. You too, find something worth it to call dibs on. The moment you disrespect the dib, you might need to be in some sort of witness protection program.

When it comes to clothes, “borrow” first, apologise later

I can just hear all the older siblings with the fancy outfits frothing at the mouth. You people should not be angry. You have nice things, and nice things should be appreciated. Take that hoodie or shoe today. Nobody has died from being shouted at.

Always walk into your sibling’s room and leave the door open to annoy them

How else would you be able to cross-check to see if they are alive? Just walk into the room and stare at them for a good five minutes, throw something at them if you like, and make a show of leaving the door open on your way out. It’s simple sibling etiquette.

    We all go down together

There are two ways to look at this code.

The first one is, if you snitch on your sibling, everything is fair game, and everyone is going down.

The second one is? It’s better to serve punishment together than to tell your parents who broke the car mirror.

Younger siblings are always player 2 in video games

If you like, be eight or fifty years old, as long as you’re the younger sibling when we play games, you are always player two. If you want to fight somebody about this, go and fight God.

    Never eat their food

If there is food in the fridge that you did not buy, is labelled or on your sibling’s special plate, don’t eat it, else whatever you see, take it like that. Siblings can forgive anything butr not when you steal their food.

    Everything must be divided equally

Just bring out the rulers and scales when you have to share something because no one must get cheated. Did you grow up in a Nigerian family if you never had to equally divide hard Gala, suya, one bottle of coke or 1k with your siblings?.

Your sibling’s ex is your enemy for life

If for any reason, you want to consider forgiving your sibling’s ex, think about all the sad music and moping you had to endure and how nice you had to pretend to be to your sibling. Even if they get back together, their partner has to remain your opp forever.

Tell your siblings to cover for you when necessary

See how I didn’t say, “cover up for your sibling”? Exactly, if you need someone to cover up for you when you bail on your mum’s monthly family hangout, that’s when you use this. Or if you’re a teenager and you sneaked out. Not when they murder or assault people abeg.

Your sibling might be an everlasting pain in the ass, but they are — what’s that quote — “family by force, friends by choice”. Treat them nicely but also tap their head for no reason today.

  • A Woman Furniture Manufacturer Thinks Outside the Box

A Woman Furniture Manufacturer Thinks Outside the Box

When Onyinye Gift Ikechukwu engaged her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, something interesting happened.

By Victor Eyike, bird story agency

    photo of Gift onyinye

In a yard down on Benin City’s popular 5-Junction Road, ten men gather for a daily ritual. They are greeted by a strongly built young woman wearing workman’s tan overalls and leather shoes, who leads them in prayer. Afterwards, the men pick up their tools and head their various ways, each to a carpentry workstation of their own. Onyinye Gift Ikechukwu, the woman in the overalls, does the same.

Ikechukwu is the proprietor and chief designer of Cheeo Furnitures — a hub open to skilled furniture builders in this city in Edo State.

Work starts in earnest in the yard, where several pieces of furniture, including tables, chairs, beds and other pieces of home decor, are already complete and on display for sale.

“The yard is usually open to any furniture maker. So, different people come here to work. I start my day by praying and changing to my uniform before sorting out the materials for use in the day,” Ikechukwu explained, before getting down to work.

Although there are several other furniture yards on this stretch of road, Cheeo is unique. In most yards, a businessman owns the business and the artisans — many extremely skilled — work for a wage. At Cheeo all are equal — everyone rents space and retains their independence. And Ikechukwu has gained something of a cult status amongst her fellow artisans. Where many people see her as an unwelcome intruder into the menial, “man’s world” of the furniture-making business, her co-workers at the hub see her as something of a local hero.

Furniture maker Chude Smart said Ikechukwu’s open-yard concept not only accorded the artisans space to work but attracted more customers. It also provided something they can’t get working alone.

“Whenever we’re here, we’re supported by our mates. Sometimes we borrow materials from one another. It makes the work easy and fast,” he said. speaking his local dialect.

Ikechukwu also offers something the artisans would not get elsewhere: social media marketing. Ikechukwu turns to social media – particularly Instagram – to market the products in the yard.

“The bottom line is, there are so many skilled furniture makers, You just have to put your work out there through social media platforms and try to reach clients before your competitors,” she said.

Although Ikechukwu had qualms when she ventured into furniture making, she was determined to make her mark in a male-dominated furniture manufacturing sector that rakes in more than 50 billion (almost 120 million US dollars) annually, according to the Nigerian factual site, Nigerian Finder. Only 19 at the time, she was ready to ride out whatever challenges came her way.

“I was seeking admission into the tertiary institution at that time and I was getting declined, so I desired to try something different. I tried several skills, but it just wasn’t working for me. Then I tried furniture making and I knew it was the real deal,” she said.

Although she did manage to continue with her studies, Ikechukwu’s parents were not comfortable with her decision.

“My parents were sceptical about it, especially my mother. I was coming back home with injuries and they wished I focused on something else. But now they have adjusted, they clearly see I have a deep passion for it and whole-heartedly support me and my work,” Ikechukwu said.

Despite their early reservations, Ikechukwu now credits her father, Ikechukwu Chidele, with providing some her most important support.

“My father was instrumental to my growth. His drive and diligence as a spray painter motivated me. At some point, I almost ventured into his industry but then I knew that was not my calling, So I delved into furniture making,” she said.

For his part, the elder Ikechukwu seems to now be a lot more comfortable with his daughter’s decision.

“I was surprised when she started a furniture design business. At first, I was scared she may be overwhelmed by the work to the detriment of her studies but over time, Onyinye has shown zeal and resilience. I am proud of her for what she is doing. She has my blessings in what she chose to do in life,” Ikechukwu Chidele said.

Even Ikechukwu’s mother, Ikechukwu Udoka Magdalene, has become one of her greatest supporters, and credits her daughter for changing her perception of the craft.

“I was always bothered about her safety and how she would be able to combine schooling with furniture design. She has been doing a fantastic job and I am extremely proud of her, Udoka said.

Though the daring move may be breaking down gender bias, Ikechukwu, like many Nigerians from average families, can’t afford to look back. Cheeo has now become the lifeblood of the family. It pays the bills and funds her own further education.

‘I am the firstborn child in my family, I have two siblings. My father is a spray painter while my mother is a local gospel singer who makes and sells snacks. I am not from a wealthy home, but my parents have been doing their best to ensure we have a roof over our heads and go to school,” she said.

“I wasn’t born into affluence, but I was taught to keep hustling by my parents. With my furniture business, I am now able to chip in, besides paying my fees.”

Having passed her examinations and qualified to attend university, Ikechukwu is now studying at the University of Benin, one of the most prestigious tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

“My parents always wanted me to get a formal education, irrespective of my desire to be a furniture maker. I had my primary and secondary education in Benin City, Edo state. I am studying public administration at the University of Benin,” Ikechukwu said proudly.

Looking back she says that it was worth it all despite the ridicule she suffered from friends — especially for doing the many odd jobs required to initially raise capital for her now booming furniture business.

She also confesses to being tempted to quit college and go full-time into business, but said doing so would “literally kill my parents, who have struggled so much to ensure I and my siblings get a good education.”

“Honestly, I have been worried that someday I may succumb and quit schooling. But still, I know education is vital and I have to keep balancing my schooling and work,” she added.

She is also extremely aware of how important her business is to the families of the other woodworkers who use her hub facilities. Buying materials in bulk helps increase their profit margins.

“We get our materials from different suppliers. Some sell their boards at a cheaper price compared to others,” she said.

Ikechukwu has now earned the respect of her colleagues, not just for starting the hub but also for her woodwork. At first over-protective, they now see her as one of themselves.

“They don’t discriminate at all. There is mutual respect here in the yard. Although some clients are sceptical of trusting me with their work, I try to convince them with pictures and videos of my previous jobs to earn their trust. So my gender as a female doesn’t really hinder my work,” she said.

On average, she makes about 200 sales a year.

“Although the cost of production is increasing insanely, the market is still buoyant and profitable,” she said.

But it is not always smooth sailing. Like any business venture, Cheeo has its ups and downs, especially when customers dry up.

“I get discouraged sometimes, we keep waiting for customers but get nothing. This weighs me down mentally but then I have to stay motivated and keep pushing,” she said.

She remains bouyed by local customers like Chuks Ideh, who likes the quality she gets from Ikechukwu.

“I always prefer to make my furniture from scratch than purchasing from a vendor. Furniture is an asset we can’t do without in our homes. I do not care if it’s a man or woman handling the job, as long as it meets my requirements,” Ideh explained.

Furniture buyer Ibidun Joy said buys from Ikechukwu because of the reliability she finds from the yard’s artisans.

“It’s difficult to get a reliable furniture maker, So when I search for one, I always seek recommendations from my friends. I have seen Onyinye severally whenever I come to purchase furniture from the yard. What she is doing is great. She deserves all the accolades,” Ibidun said.

Those sentiments are shared by Franca Suwe, a second-time customer, visiting the hub to buy a queen-sized bed frame.

“The furniture business is a very stressful venture. I remember my brother, who was a furniture maker, always looking stressed trying to please very difficult customers. I once saw (him) struggling to just complete a wardrobe with a customer breathing down his neck. Onyinye is doing great, and I will continue to buy my furniture from her,” Suwe said.

“It takes a lot of convincing to close a deal because some clients prefer men while others will make almost unrealistic demands, especially on completion. Sometimes, I get lucky and get instant clients, especially those who see my work on my Instagram page,” Ikechukwu in turn explained.

Amos Ighorodje is one of the customers who found her online.

“I wanted to make a wardrobe for my room and when I mentioned it to a colleague in the office, he immediately referred me to (the) Cheeo Furniture page. Though I liked what I saw, I was sceptical when I saw that it was run by a woman, but she proved me wrong by delivering a top-notch wardrobe that is the envy of my friends,” Ighorodje said.

While many Nigerians insist on buying imported furniture, designer Bright Are called on Nigerians, particularly the “elite” to support local enterprises.

“Some potential customers believe it’s always better to import their accessories because they will get good quality, and a wide variety at very moderate prices. That’s a major problem for domestic furniture designers. It would help grow us and the economy if Nigerians can start patronising local furniture,” he said.

But Onyinye sees an opportunity in the challenge mounted by imported goods. That opportunity is to improve her quality and ensure competitiveness to win more customers.

Her eye is set on turning Cheeo into a household name and top furniture manufacturing company in Nigeria – and beyond.

“In the next 10 years, I hope to make Cheeo furniture a household name in Africa with unique products to compete in the export market,” she concluded.

  • These Are the Most Pressing Electoral Issues for Nigerian Voters in 2023

These Are the Most Pressing Electoral Issues for Nigerian Voters in 2023

The 2023 presidential election is yet another make-or-mar election for Nigerians to decide the future of the country.

These Are the Most Pressing Electoral Issues for Nigerian Voters in 2023

…and boys and girls are not smiling

The choices voters make can be the catalyst for Nigeria becoming either Wakanda or the African Venezuela.

With the campaign season set to officially start on September 28th, 2022, what are the electoral issues that’ll be front and centre when Nigerian voters head to the polls next February?

    Education

When President Buhari started his second term in office, his aide, Bashir Ahmad, tweeted that his second term would be focused on “education, education and education”. Unfortunately, the past three years haven’t lived up to the promise in that tweet.

Nothing makes education an electoral issue more than the fact that thousands of students have been sitting at home for more than six months. Since the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) went on strike in February 2022, they’ve failed to reach an agreement with the government to resolve their issues. These issues have been recurring since as far back as 1999.

The 2023 presidential election must produce a president who has a clue or two on how to find a permanent solution to ASUU strikes — a pressing problem for the millions of Nigerian students who’ll be voting.

    Economy

The economy is a default electoral issue anywhere in the world even in countries with booming economies. But in an economy bent out of shape like Nigeria’s, it’s a critical issue to focus on. The Buhari administration succeeded in dragging Nigeria through two terrible recessions in seven years. Double-digit GDP growth is now a pipe dream.

On the other hand, double-digit inflation has prevailed for years and Buhari has presided over the naira’s worst-ever period in history.

These Are the Most Pressing Electoral Issues for Nigerian Voters in 2023

The next president needs to convince Nigerian voters that the trials and tribulations the economy has witnessed under Buhari can be something to laugh about in the future.

    Security

In 2022, Nigerians can’t even sleep with two eyes closed anymore, with how insecurity has ravaged the country under Buhari’s APC-led tenure.

These Are the Most Pressing Electoral Issues for Nigerian Voters in 2023

The current administration may claim to have significantly tamed the monster of Boko Haram, but terrorists in other regions of the country have filled that vacuum much too comfortably. Thousands of Nigerians are now routinely kidnapped and exchanged for ransom, or killed in mindless acts of violence. The roads are now terribly unsafe and terrorists are targeting rail lines too.

Whoever becomes president in 2023 must provide a clear roadmap for ending the bloodshed.

    Make Sleep Great Again

    Restructuring

Nigeria is still fundamentally a deeply-divided country. Regional sentiments of secession are as prominent today as they’ve ever been during the current republic. And the antidote to breaking up the country is restructuring it in a way that it caters to regional interests while still remaining together.

These Are the Most Pressing Electoral Issues for Nigerian Voters in 2023

Buhari danced around restructuring for much of his tenure, but the next president is going to have to tackle it head-on.

    Health status of candidates

Nigeria has already lost one president to death due to his poor health status in 2010. And a highlight of Buhari’s presidential legacy is the combined 200+ days he spent in London treating an undisclosed illness.

These Are the Most Pressing Electoral Issues for Nigerian Voters in 2023

It’s no surprise Nigerian voters need some reassurance that presidential candidates are in the best shape to take over the reins of the country, so history doesn’t repeat itself. It’s the kind of thing that would make voters wary of red flags like Tinubu’s  mannequin challenge:

It wouldn’t be a bad idea for candidates to make their health reports public before Nigerians head to the polls. But will they do it?

    Candidate’s origin

Zoning has been a major talking point of the 2023 elections already, especially around the primary elections that produced the candidates. With Buhari, a northerner, ending his time at Aso Rock Villa after eight years, there have been calls for the next president to be a southerner.

And even in the south, there have been calls that the next president should come from the southeast region. This origin issue has taken a beating for much of this year and isn’t as prominent anymore, but it’ll still play on the mind of millions of Nigerians at the polls in 2023.

    Religion

A candidate’s religion isn’t typically a major talking point because everyone usually adheres to the principle of balancing a presidential ticket. But the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has sent tongues waging with his choice of a fellow Muslim as running mate.

No major presidential ticket in Nigeria has been bold enough to make such an attempt since 1993, and aggressive opposition to it is expected to grow as the 2023 election approaches.

As a Nigerian voter, what are the electoral issues your candidate must promise to tackle?

Nigerian Bachelors Should Try Out These Other Meals and Leave Noodles Alone

One thing I’ve noticed is that many Nigerian bachelors who live alone have only three meal options;  noodles, rice and stew, and bread. Outside of that, they’re buying food.  I want better for them. That’s why I’ve come up with this list of recipes.  Please at least try one of them this week.

    Egg fried rice

On Sunday, before you begin blending those tomatoes and onions to make stew for your white rice, just stop. Forget the blender and bring out your cutting board to make egg-fried rice instead. Don’t worry, it won’t take time to make, you can still finish in time for Premier League

    Potato pepper soup

Don’t beat me o, but potato pepper soup tastes so much better than yam pepper soup. There’s just something about the way the flavours in the pepper soup seep into the potatoes. It’s amazing. You can decide to use fish, beef or chicken; it all depends on your account balance.

    Nigerian pancakes

I had these at my friend’s house last month and no matter how much I ate, I couldn’t get enough. Once you eat these, you won’t be able to eat any other type of pancakes again. The only thing that stops you from eating these pancakes every day, is the amount of work that goes onto making them.

    Yam and smoked fish sauce

Not every time boiled yam and stew. Are you not tired? Or is it just laziness? Whatever it is, please just try something else. Start with this heavenly smoked fish sauce, I promise you’ll thank me later. It slaps harder than a Nigerian mother.

Nigeria is currently showing us shege. Every single thing is expensive, and flight tickets are the worst. Someone can’t even just travel as they please again. But at least you can travel through food. Starting with food from our best friends, Ghana. • Pros And Cons of Spending Easter With Your Family

Pros And Cons of Spending Easter With Your Family

My family is home for Easter, and I have mixed feelings. I’m excited to spend time with them, but at the same time, I’m not ready for their wahala. There are pros and cons to spending your Easter holidays with your family. I’ve listed five of them in this article.

Pro: There may be plenty of food to eat

Even if nothing special is happening for Easter, there’s a high chance someone in the house will at least make food for everyone to eat. And the sweet thing about spending holidays with family is that they always cook as if it’s the last supper. There’ll be so much food, you’ll eat until you can no longer breathe properly.

Con: There’s a high chance you’ll be involved in the cooking of it

You’re in your family house, people are cooking, and you think they won’t call you to enter kitchen? The chances of that happening are very rare. Instead of resting, you’ll spend your Easter Sunday cutting onions in the kitchen.

Pro: At least there will be light in your family house

Because they want everyone to enjoy themselves and be comfortable, whichever family member’s house you’re staying at will try to make sure there’s constant light. If there’s no NEPA light, the generator will be put on. It’s not your money being spent on diesel, so you have no worries.

Con: You will be billed left and right by most family members

You might not be contributing to buying diesel, but money will still leave your account. Being around family members means ultimate billing. That’s when your cousin will remember that they want to buy a new phone, and your uncle wants to start a business and needs money. Then  your sibling whose laptop has spoilt. See, your money will finish.

RELATED: I’m Lonely and Sometimes Wish I Had a Larger Family

    Pro: Family drama

Being around family means there’ll be sweet drama to spice up your boring life. That’s when you’ll find out that when it comes to betrayal, Judas is learning compared to your family. Drama can be interesting when you’re not involved and you’re just a waka pass.

    Con: Family drama

It’s quite impossible for you not to be dragged into the drama. It’s either it’s about you and how you changed it for that aunty who tried to throw shade at you. Or you’re settling wahala between two family members who decided that the right time to bring up their beef is in the middle of Easter lunch.

Pro: You get to bond with your family?

If you spend your Easter with your family, you’ll spend time talking to them, laughing your eyes out over jokes, reminiscing over childhood memories etc. It’ll be a well-spent holiday.

Con: They may get on your nerves

It’s almost nearly impossible for you to spend four days with your family members and they won’t get on your nerves once. One of the ways they can annoy you is by constantly bringing up your latest lifestyle choices they don’t agree with: your tattoos, coming home late, your drinking etc. There’s always something they’ll use to stress you out.

RELATED: 10 Things We Hate About Public Holidays

Pro: You’ll get to be around family you don’t see often

One thing about growing up and moving around — going to school, travelling, getting an apartment, etc. — is that you don’t get to see a lot of your favourite family members that often. Holidays are usually the times when you spend time with them, especially the ones you haven’t seen in a while.

Con: You won’t have any personal space

Being at home with family means they’ll be in your face a lot. You have your mother, who’s constantly trying to gist with you and the younger ones who want to look at pictures and apps on your phone. And then your father, who is always complaining you’re always in your room or on your phone. You won’t be able to catch a break.

If you’re spending the holiday with your family, just be prepared for anything that happens. One thing we can guarantee though is that your Easter won’t be boring.

Why use Windows 10 Activator Crack?

Microsoft Windows is one of the most popular operating systems in the world. Because of its easy-to-use and straightforward interface, most people prefer Windows over other operating systems such as Mac OS or Linux.

However, one problem is that since this operating system is not free like other operating systems, you have to pay to use it on your computer.

A 30-day free trial is available, and at the end of the trial period, you will need to purchase a product key. The “Activate Windows” watermark will appear on your desktop if you do not.

Users are also prohibited from using certain features such as “Change Wallpaper,” “Get Microsoft Updates,” “Annoying Screen Watermark,” etc.

That’s why people are looking for Windows 10 Activator to get the full version for free because not everyone can buy a copy of Windows.

Let me tell you now that this tool works 100% well and will be activated permanently. When you use one of the given activators, your window will always be active, and it will always be there until you reinstall Windows.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I have read everything about this beautiful program. But still, you have questions, don’t worry. We have compiled the most frequently asked questions and answers on the Internet.

Read these questions with answers. I hope you get what you want. If you do not find the correct answer, please comment below. We will do our best to answer it.

Is There A Virus In Windows 10 Activator?
Of course, this tool is 100% secure and malware-free. Antivirus software recognizes it as a virus. But in reality, all activators are blocklisted from such programs. So, no matter what tool you use, it will always look like a virus.
How Do I Get a Windows 10 License Key?
When using KMSPico or other tools, users do not need to provide a license key. However, if you somehow prefer to use the license key instead of a device, KMSAuto also lets you generate a key for Windows and Office.
How To Remove The Watermark On Windows 10?
Microsoft Windows 10 Crack comes with a free 30-day trial, and you need a license at the end of the trial period. If you don’t, you’ll find annoying watermarks everywhere. To uninstall, please refer to the instructions above to enable Windows 10 with KMSPico.
What Is The Best Support Software For Windows 10 Crack?
A lot of search results come up when I search for a tank online. Therefore, it isn’t easy to choose the best activator for Windows 10. But now, we’ve listed the best Windows 10 activators you can use for lifetime activation.

    Conclusion:

Windows 10 is by far the best operating system. For example, it’s more secure, easier to use, and has a well-designed user interface.

That’s why people port older versions of Windows to it. The second reason is that Microsoft has recently announced that it will stop updating Windows 7, which means you will not get any system updates or security patches after January 2022.

Now, anyone can easily switch from Win7 to Win10. Thanks to the great Windows 10 support software I just mentioned, you can download the full version without paying a penny.

This Windows 10 activator is reliable and provides 100% secure activation. It cannot be detected by Microsoft and is not captured by servers.

The best thing I like about it is that it gives you a full Windows license. This tool also allows you to get updates from Microsoft that no other agency provides.

2022/23 Global Citizen Fellowship Program Powered by BeyGOOD Now Open

Offers opportunity for young changemakers from Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa to join the Global Citizen Fellowship Program for a year-long, full-Time, paid placement

International advocacy organisation Global Citizen has today announced that application for the 2022/23 Global Citizen Fellowship Program powered by BeyGOOD is now open until 29th April 2022. Fifteen young African changemakers: five from Nigeria, five from Kenya and five from South Africa, aged between 21 and 25, will be selected to join the coveted fellowship program commencing in July 2022.

Through the program, which is now in its fourth year, the 15 changemakers will each engage in a paid, year-long, full-time placement aligned to one of Global Citizen’s four pillars of activity: creative, campaigns, rewards, and marketing. Powered by BeyGOOD, the Global Citizen Fellowship Program will unearth African youth with remarkable potential.

The Global Citizen Fellowship, supported by Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD philanthropic initiative and US actor and filmmaker, Tyler Perry, aims to empower young Africans to become agents of change, and provide them with tools they need to thrive – not just during their time with Global Citizen but also in any future professional environment.

“With young people (under 25years) making up 60% of the population, Africa is reported to be the youngest continent in the world. Therefore, by investing in the development and empowerment of our youth we are securing a bright future for our continent. These are the leaders of the 21st century and beyond. We need to engage them now and we need them to play an active role in changing the African narrative. It gives me a great sense of pride to see philanthropic organisations such as BeyGOOD and humanitarians like Tyler Perry doing their part in the development of these young people. I’d be even prouder to see more African organisations and humanitarians investing more money and more resources in the empowerment of these young minds. With the little that I have and the powers given to me, I always avail myself to the plight of young people. We must invest in their education and health for the sake of our continent’s wealth. Together, we can conquer these challenges and leave a better world for our young people,” says Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Global Citizen Board Member.

Launched in 2019, following the success of commitments made at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 in December 2018, the Fellowship is focused on Global Citizen’s vision of eliminating extreme poverty, providing young people with opportunities to gain experience working on social impact projects.

During the course of the year, the fellows learn how to use digital technology for social change, storytelling tactics that shift attitudes, and the process of building lasting professional relationships. The program also aims to foster an in-depth understanding of the role that innovation plays in an ever-changing digital world.

Ivy McGregor, BeyGOOD, Executive Director says, “With all that is happening in our world right now, educating, empowering and employing our youth to use their voice and vocation to make a positive impact are essential to creating a lasting change. The model BeyGOOD has designed through the Fellowship program, in partnership with Global Citizen, aims to empower young people from marginalised communities across the African continent through paid year-long fellowships intended to advance their lives. This year’s cohorts from South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya will be entering at such a critical time. Their impact will be pivotal to dynamic outcomes.”

Global Citizen and BeyGOOD strongly encourage applicants from minorities and underrepresented communities to apply.

    How To Apply

Submit a 2 to 3 minute video or 500 to 700 word essay to fellowship@globalcitizen.org, including a copy of your ID or passport, explaining the following:

    • What qualities do you identify with as a Global Citizen?
    • If selected, what lasting change would you like to achieve through the program?
    • What specific socio-economic issues are you taking action on and why?

Read more about the young people who have previously taken part in the Fellowship program, the issues they’re passionate about, and their experiences during the program by visiting www.globalcitizen.org/fellows.

“Prior to the Fellowship, I was at university trying to understand my own journey and direction following my experiences during the national #FeesMustFall campaign, where the resistance we experienced fostered self-doubt. The Fellowship journey has added to who I am right now in a sense, where I am more confident in my individual power to play my part in crafting and contributing towards something way bigger than me. Today, in describing myself, I would say that I am a thoughtful person who is conscious of their position in society and is continuously working towards empowering themselves to empower others,”  says Lonwabo Nkonzo, 2019 Global Citizen Fellowship Program

Darnelle Fortune, 2019 Global Citizen Fellowship Program also testifies: “The person I was prior to the Fellowship program is a lot different to who I am now, and in the best ways possible. I would describe Darnelle 2.0 as confident, assertive, and a lot more curious. I learned so much, not just from the Fellowship but from my peers as well, and it has completely changed my view of the world. I gained valuable technical skills in marketing and social media, learning how to use digital platforms as tools to create impactful social change.”

  • Pros and Cons of Hosting the Headies Award in the United States

Over the years, Nigerians have dragged the Headies on a yearly basis. While the award show initially gained popularity for rewarding the best of the best on the Nigerian music scene, its credibility has dwindled over time, no small thanks to its inconsistent timeline, controversial winners and a hit-or-miss (mostly miss)  production value. Despite all of this, one thing we didn’t see was the award show deciding to japa to America, as July’s edition is set to take place at the COBB Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, US.

Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of Headies Awards, japa version.

Pro: Bye-bye to NTA broadcast quality, hello Netflix and CNN

If there’s one thing the Headies is known for, it’s transporting us back to the 90s with its broadcast quality year in, year out. We’ve been complaining for years, but it’s almost like they see our concerns and tell us “Aired dfkm.” But now, moving to Atlanta and partnering with channels like CBS, Netflix and CNN, we’re at least sure those Old Nollywood quality images will become a thing of the past.

Con: Have you ever heard of an American or British award show held in Nigeria?

The BRITs take place in England and the American Music Awards take place in America. Headies, dear, what’s not clicking here? We get the need to try out new things outside Lagos, but we have 36 states in Nigeria, why not try a different state? It feels a little bit like you’re trying to appeal to an international audience, when you haven’t even figured out a way to appeal to the local audience here.

Pro: Maybe now celebrities will actually attend the award show

Now that the award is moving overseas, maybe, just maybe, nominees will actually attend. Over the years, Headies’ rep continued to plunge and so, fewer artists showed up for the ceremonies. A new location in a different country is as good as any incentive can get. Are we going to see Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage and all the big stars attending the show for once? Well, we’ll find out in July.

Con: Not all the artists may be able to make it

Flight tickets within Nigeria are expensive AF right now mehn. Didn’t anyone tell the organisers? Unless there’s a plan to subsidise rates for performers, presenters and nominees, there’s a high chance less-established artists will have to sit this one out.

    Pro: NEPA won’t take light

    I mean…

Con: How will the next rated winner move their car from Atlanta?

Like the years before, the next rated artist at this year’s Headies gets to walk away with a brand new car — a Bentley this time around. Quick question: Is the car going to be presented in the overseas? If it is, who pays for the shipping back here? The whole process just seems needlessly expensive. Either way, good luck to everyone involved. Who are we to watch your pockets?

Pro: It makes sense to explore the expansion of Afrobeats outside Nigeria

Afrobeats continues to expand across the world at a rapid pace, and with international collaborations happening ear and dear. Placing the award show on a global stage markets it to a wider audience.

Con: Job opportunities for Nigerians in the mud

To make an award show, you need to hire people. With the Headies making its big move to Atlanta, a lot of contractors and Nigerian workers will miss out on working on a project that would’ve helped them secure the bag and boost their resumés. These jobs will end up with colonisers and this doesn’t sit well with our spirits.

  • Valentine’s: Why Only Give Flowers When There’s Chocolate?

Valentine’s: Why Only Give Flowers When There’s Chocolate?

Ensuring that Valentine’s Day fell within ten-day chocolate marketing period may have been a masterstroke for Ghana’s chocolate marketers. But they were also helped because a campaign launched 15 years ago to encourage local consumption of chocolate is beginning to bear fruit.

By Zubaida Mabuno Ismail, bird story agency.

“I have run out stock of Kingsbite milk chocolate, I only have the love chocolate (chocolate from Turkey),” announces a vendor stationed at the Dzorwulu junction in a suburb of Accra. It’s Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2022 and already vendors are selling out of Ghanaian chocolate.

That is a measure of success for the organisations behind Ghana’s National Chocolate Week Celebration, an annual marketing drive that was begun in 2015 and which is beginning to change the narrative on chocolate.

It’s also great news for the Ghana Cocoa Processing Company, which sells seven main brands of chocolates – including Kingsbite.

Three private firms — Chocolate 57, owned and run by London-based sisters, Priscilla and Kimberly Addison, Niche Cocoa and Cocoa Liquor Company-GIHOC Distilleries are the other key partners behind the country’s annual Chocolate fete. According to the managing director of the state-run Ghana Cocoa Processing Company, Nana Agyenim Boateng, more and more stakeholders are being drawn in every year.

It may have been luck that this year, Valentine’s Day fell within the 10-day chocolate fete, scheduled to run from February 12 to February 22 but the Valentines Day slogan, “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana; Our Chocolate, Our Health, Our Wealth” left no doubt as to what the day was meant to be about.

Valentine’s gift boxes and bouquets invariably contained a bar of Kingsbite Milk Chocolate.

Board member of the country’s COCOBOD, Naa Adwoa Dokuah, explained the celebrations’ origins – and why the board shares chocolate bars each year with the Darbah community in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District to share bars of chocolate to pupils.

“The national Chocolate Day celebration idea was mooted by former tourism minister Jake Obetsebi Lamptey during ex-President John Agyekum Kufour’s tenure and this is an opportunity to honour the president in his hometown,” he said.

Ghana has had plenty of chocolate visionaries. The first was the late Tetteh Quarshie. Quarshie is credited for bringing the first cocoa beans to the then Gold Coast in 1879. The agriculturalist planted the beans on his farm at Mampong-Akuapim, a town in the Eastern Region but little did he know that his discovery would later be the lifeline to his country’s economy, becoming an important part of the country’s export.

Born in 1842, Quarshie did not witness his country’s first official export of two cocoa bags in 1893, as he died on Christmas Day, 1892. But by 1910 Ghana was already the world’s largest exporter of cocoa and produced almost half of the world’s output until 1978, when Ivory Coast overtook Ghana as the largest producer.

Although cocoa beans originated in South America, the majority of the world’s annual crop is grown in Africa, and the 2017-2018 African harvest amounted to around 3.5 million tons. The top two producers are Ghana and Ivory Coast, with Ivory Coast producing more than twice the volume that Ghana does. Some three million people work in the industry in those two countries.

In 2015, while the world’s cocoa farmers received about 8 billion US dollars in revenue, the world chocolate market was valued at 110 billion US dollars, according to the African Development Bank. Ghana wants to retain far more of the chocolate market value than it currently does, by developing its domestic chocolate market and relying less on exports of unprocessed beans… basically changing the narrative from “raw cocoa exporter” to “processed chocolate consumer”.

To boost local cocoa consumption, in the academic year 2017/18, the government introduced a hot chocolate programme for senior high school students in the country. The country also encourages an interest in cocoa and chocolate production, at school.

School principal Lawrence Ahiagbor said that the strategy not only encourages learners to become familiar with chocolate as a local product but also promotes its consumption. Surprisingly few learners know about cocoa or chocolate, especially in the country’s north.

“Since cocoa is not something that is produced in the northern part of Ghana. Most of our learners would have seen it for the first time in its real essence and not in pictorial form. They would also learn the act of sharing and then begin to develop an interest in cocoa made products in Ghana,” Ahiagbor said.

One of those who got to enjoy chocolate products at the annual fete was Kanitatu Abdul-Latif, a pupil of the Alhassan Gbanzaba Memorial School in Ghana’s Northern region. She was fascinated with chocolate saying she had only seen the cocoa pods either in photos or television.

“I only see cocoa on television so seeing it today (chocolate day) brings me joy. Again, I have learned about other products produced from cocoa. Thank you for bringing us cocoa,” she said with a smile on her face.

Mohammed Farakhan, another pupil, enjoyed the celebration, too.

“I see today as a day to honour the cocoa farmers and the celebration in school is our way of saying thank you to the farmers.”
    Latif said.

Cocoa is mainly grown in the country’s forested areas of Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Central Region, Eastern Region, Western Region, and Volta, where rainfall is 1,000–1,500 millimetres per year.

While the global price of cocoa beans can fluctuate considerably, the price has gravitated been between 2,000 and 3,000 US dollars per metric ton for the past few years.

So while it may have been luck that Valentine’s Day this year fell during the annual Chocolate Week Celebration, it was no coincidence that it was chocolate, not flowers, that marketers across the country, were pushing on the day.

  • How to Avoid Investment Scams

    How to Avoid Investment Scams

At some point, many Nigerians have been victims of one investment scam or the other. There are many reasons they keep falling for these scams over and over again, but the major factors border on greed, widespread poverty and a lack awareness on how real investments work.

Many of the scams promise immediate and unrealistic gains, knowing people, who don’t see the scams for what they really are, want to go in, cash out, and get out quickly – a decision they tend to regret when they get burned.

What many these fail to realize is that, in most cases a proper investment rarely promises a monthly percentage gains that compounds. A proper investment also points out the uncertainties that come with investing, which is one of the reasons they do not guarantee a fixed monthly compounding returns – something many investment scams never do. This is because they are focused on convincing people they are the next best thing their potential victims will miss if they don’t get in quickly.

  • Xend Finance Storms Nigerian Universities on a Student Activation Campaign

Xend Finance Storms Nigerian Universities on a Student Activation Campaign

The Xend Finance App, recently launched in December 2021,  ensures that individuals and cooperatives save in dollars while earning up to 15% annual interest compounded daily. As inflation continues to hit Nigerian society, Xend Finance has continued to provide innovative solutions and beneficial saving methods. In understanding that the student population, alongside average income earners, are mostly affected by inflation, the team embarked on the campaign to not just imbibe a better financial habit in them but also educate them on how to use the App, with which they could start saving with as little as ₦3000/$5.

The Xend Finance team activated more than 1000 students in Unilag, and about the same number in UNEC as they turned up in their numbers at the Unilag’s Faculty of Education building, and the Lady Ibiam’s hostel at UNEC to learn from the campaign. The team was led by Mercy Emmanuel, the Head of Growth for Xend Finance, who initiated the campaign interaction with the students. The interaction featured a sensitisation on how decentralised finance can change lives in diverse economies, and how the app can assist them to hedge their funds against inflation. “The problem that young people face in Nigeria is that no matter how hard or smart we work, the inflation and instability of the Nigerian currency makes it difficult for us to earn money or get value out of our savings,” Mercy Emmanuel emphasised.

With the high economic benefits of the app, a great number of students downloaded it and proceeded with their saving journey. After receiving fundamental information on maintaining a stable saving culture in a time of raging inflation, the students were walked through the steps of using the app’s features. They were directed on how to create an account, set up fixed savings and Flexi save plan in the app wallet, calculate interest, and add money. The students were also able to create a next of kin profile and earn referral points. The student activation campaign marks a significant step in the Nigerian economy as it is presenting a financial culture, which will remain valid in the future, to youths at early stages.   By understanding that the value of the Nigerian Naira will continue to depreciate in comparison to other currencies in the Foreign Exchange Global Market, and acting promptly to guarantee that they can do more with it while saving in dollars, Xend Finance believes that the students will also be able to generate wealth as salary earners.

Both campaigns were a huge success as the activation was effectively conducted. “This generation of young people understand the financial peril that Nigeria is heading to, and also understand the roles they have to play in turning things around. What we have witnessed with these campaigns is a generation of youth that are not only interested in their physical environment, but are ready to work hard and smart to initiate individual and collective economic liberation,” Mercy Emmanuel, Xend Finance’s Head of Growth stated. The team also stated that they are embarking on a nationwide campaign, reaching every university in Nigeria. They believe that the campaign should be a wave that will take over the whole country and not a mild rain that is meant to affect only a part of it. “Change does not occur in part, especially when it has to do with finances. Yes, it is a gradual process, but it has to be thorough and whole at the end of the day. And that is what we are doing with Xend Finance,” Ms Emmanuel added.

Xend Finance, a global blockchain bank and decentralized financial platform, on 4th and 17th February, embarked on a student activation campaign at the University of Nigerian, Enugu Campus (UNEC), and University of Lagos (UNILAG) campus respectively to educate students about saving in stable currency using the Xend Finance App.

  • 5 Different Types of Romantic Movie Watchers in Nigeria

5 Different Types of Romantic Movie Watchers in Nigeria

If you  think that there’s only one type of people who watch romantic movies — the ones who love love — you’re wrong. There are five types of romantic movie watchers. Find them below.

    The “God when”

At every single point in the movie, especially in areas where the romance is peak, be prepared to hear “God when?” “God, am I not your child?” and “God please nowww!” In summary, just be prepared to be frustrated because these ones won’t allow you to hear word until God does their own.

    The Analysers

They analyse every part of the movie and tell you what can and what can’t happen in real life. They won’t let you just enjoy the fact that it’s a movie.

    The cryers

If you’re with a cryer, just make sure tissue is nearby. The scene may not even be remotely sad but they’re already sniffling. Imagine if it’s now a scene where the man stops the love of his life at the airport from getting on a plane and there’s a big emotional exchange between the two. Oh the floodgates!

    The Haters

These ones are upset because they lack romance in their lives, and so they hate to see romance happen to anyone else, including movie characters. At every point of the movie, you’ll find them hissing and getting upset at the characters for no reason.

    “Can never be me”

These types of romantic movie watchers always claim they can never do the romantic things they see in movies, especially when a particular amount of simping is involved. Imagine watching Titanic with them: “Jack stayed in that freezing water for Rose? Can never be me.”

It’s the month of love and GOtv is serving a great lineup of romantic movies and series for you to enjoy with that special person. Don’t miss the exciting shows they have lined up: Girls Trip, Deliver Us From Eva, Blackish, Nigerian Idol S7 and many more.

All you have to do is get  a GOtv decoder and GOtenna which comes with a one-month subscription for just N7,900, to enjoy maximum entertainment this month of love.

  • 7 Lies All Fitness Trainers Tell Their Clients

7 Lies All Fitness Trainers Tell Their Clients

After the devil and Yoruba men, fitness trainers are the next top set of liars. They’ll lie to you with their full chest just to either make you do that extra exercise or to chop your money. If you’ve ever had a fitness trainer, below are seven lies you must have heard.

    1. “One more rep.”

The biggest lie of them all. One more, one more, and that’s how you’ve done 20 extra reps. Do they want to kill somebody?

    2. “The scale doesn’t matter.”

So why did you ask me to check my starting weight at the beginning?

    3. “You can do it!”

No, I can’t o. I can’t! Whenever they say this phrase, it’s not because they believe you can actually do it. It’s their way of trying to ginger you to do an exercise that will almost kill you. And that’s what they want. To kill you.

    4. “No pain, no gain.”

Says who? Don’t you just want to slap them across the face when they say this? They think that by pushing you beyond your limits and lying to you while at it, you’ll work harder. Omo, once I begin to feel small pain, I run away. I can’t come and kill myself because of gain. Will gain take me to heaven?

    5. “Last exercise.”

Every single exercise is the last exercise until you actually reach the original last one. It’s extra heartbreaking because these trainers will look you in the eye in your most vulnerable moment and assure you that that is your last workout, knowing fully well that it isn’t. After God, fear them.

    6. “You’re gaining muscle.”

“You’re gaining muscle and losing fat. Muscle weighs more than fat, that’s why you’re not seeing changes yet.” Please stop lying to me. Which muscle are you seeing? Just say your program isn’t working.

    7. “You’re losing weight.”

Oga, what type of lie is this now? I’ve only been working out with you for three days, which weight did I lose?

  • 4 Nollywood Actors Share Their Best and Worst Valentine’s Experiences

4 Nollywood Actors Share Their Best and Worst Valentine’s Experiences

We all know Nollywood and romance go hand-in-hand with each other. In the spirit of Valentine’s — yep, it’s more of a week than a day at this point — we caught up with some of our favourite Nollywood men dem to get the gist on their best and worst Valentine’s Day experiences. Awww, the things we do for love.

Daniel Etim Effiong — Superstar, Castle & Castle

    Worst Valentine’s

My worst Valentine’s happens to be my very first Valentine’s as well. I used to live in Benin at the time and I was so young and clueless. LOL. My cousins had raised some money for me to celebrate Valentine’s Day, so I called up this girl and asked her out. I didn’t have a car at the time, so we both had to jump on a bike to the fast-food restaurant I was taking her to. On getting there, I asked her to order anything she wanted, even though deep down I was praying I could afford whatever she ended up selecting. Anyway, after paying for her order, I didn’t have any money left for myself to eat, so I just told her it’ll be fun to “sit and watch her eat”. Mehn, I sweated throughout that date!

    Best Valentine’s

So this year, because I didn’t have a lot of time off my set, I came into town on the 12th and made plans with someone who helped organise a surprise Valentine’s Day getaway for me and my wife. We had to do it on the 13th because I had to leave   town again on the 14th.

She was surprised when I took her to get pampered at a beach house that already had a masseuse and chef on standby. I also took her out on a boat ride to Radisson Blu for the second half of my plan. There, we had a room filled with roses and balloons and I remember her telling me she had never experienced Valentine’s Day like this before, which means my plan totally worked. It’s my best Valentine’s Day because I got to plan something special for her and everything actually worked out fine. Oh, by the way, she got me a new laptop as well, so she had a memorable experience while I got a new work machine. Love it!

Jammal Ibrahim — The Delivery Boy, The Lost Okoroshi

    Worst Valentine’s

I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad Valentine’s Day experience because, hey, I’m a lover and a giver, so It’s always been great for me.

    Best Valentine’s

The best Valentine’s Day I’ve ever had was probably one I celebrated when I was a teenager in secondary school. I remember my mum giving me a box of  chocolates, some flowers and a book with my face on it saying, “My son, my number one man, my Valentine.” It’s still my favourite Valentine’s Day memory because my mum is my first love.

    Michael Ejoor — Aberrations, Unbroken

    Worst Valentine’s

This was a long time ago and even though I wasn’t an actor at the time, I used to get invited to sing at events and things like that. So on this fateful Valentine’s Day, I was invited to perform at TerraKulture, but I cancelled my performance because of love and went home to make the day special for the lady I was dating. I cooked, got rose petals, candles, little boxes with gifts in them, chocolate and all of that good stuff. She came in and was so surprised by everything. We had a wonderful time together, but shit hit the fan when, later that night, her phone just started buzzing with lots of messages. This was the BlackBerry era so it was just pinging and popping up and down. I saw a message that looked funny and then I did the one thing you should never do: I snooped. I realised that she had been taking me for a fool and seeing other people. The worst part, I didn’t know how to confront her because I was also wrong for invading her privacy.

The next morning, I sha told her what I saw. We broke up and she carried all her gifts and left. That was also my first serious Valentine’s Day.

    Best Valentine’s

I was seeing this girl back when I lived in the UK and even after the breakfast of the last time, I went ahead to do my rose petals-and-candles move again. I hadn’t really said “I love you” yet, so I bought her this teddy bear from Build-A-Bear, a place where you can actually create a teddy bear of your own. I did this thing where I recorded myself saying, “I love you” into a part of the bear, so anytime she pressed its arm, she’d hear me saying it to her. It was a perfect Valentine’s Day because I was deeply in love at the time. We had so much fun together and it’s a Valentine’s Day I’ll never forget. Even though we didn’t work out in the end, she was one of my best relationships.

Chris Okagbue — Sanitation Day, Ije Love

    Worst Valentine’s

I can’t really say I’ve had any experience that was so bad that it could be called my worst. Most of them were just mid because I was once in a relationship in which Valentine’s Day never happened for us because we would always have an argument or something the day before to jinx it. That sort of affected other relationships that followed because I was never really into the whole Valentine’s Day thing.

    Best Valentine’s

I’ll pick my Valentine’s Day from 2019. I was seeing this girl at the time — sadly, we’re no longer together — and we had such a good time that day. Because I hadn’t done anything special in a long time, I took time out for three days just to plan a beautiful day for us. We had a beautiful private dinner, there was a trumpeter to serenade us and lovely deserts as well. It was a fun night.

  • 6 Exercises You Can Do At the Gym and in Everyday Life

6 Exercises You Can Do At the Gym and in Everyday Life

The goal this year is to step up, and that includes fitness. Not everybody likes going to the gym. Personally, we think people who go to the gym every day have their lives all sorted out. If you’re like the rest of us that don’t have the strength or time to step into that sweat dungeon, here are five exercises you can do at the gym and also in your everyday life.

    Squats

Squats can easily be done anytime and anywhere. You can squat while cooking, carrying grocery bags, doing your next work task (depending on what it is) while watching TV etc.

    Jumping Jacks

If you want to burn a lot of calories quickly, do jumping jacks. You don’t even have to do too many With about 200 jumping jacks, you’re good. Now imagine having to leave your house for something you can do in the comfort of your living room. This also applies to jump rope exercises.

    Dance

You can never go wrong with dancing. Out of your 1-hour lunch break, take 20 minutes to play loud music and dance your heart out. Do you know how many calories you can burn by doing leg work alone? The elliptical can never compare.

    Walk

You can choose to walk around your compound or take a walk around your neighbourhood if you have the time. it’s definitely more interesting and fascinating than walking on a basic ass treadmill.

    Climb Stairs

No stair master? No problem. if you set aside just 10-15 minutes of your day to go up and down any flight of steps, you can burn more than 100 calories. Taking the stairs is a great aerobic exercise, not to mention, it’s free. No gym membership fee whatsoever.

    Sit Down

Working out is not a must, please. Some of us are okay with our lazy selves, we’d rather just wake up, go to the couch, sit down and watch some TV.

If there are people out there like us, (which we know there are), thankfully, DStv has got you covered this month. With the StepUp Boost offer, both active and disconnected subscribers can enjoy the opportunity to pay less to enjoy an exciting lineup of world-class quality entertainment.

  • “I’m Scared to Show My Mum Who I’ve Become in Russia”- Abroad Life

“I’m Scared to Show My Mum Who I’ve Become in Russia”- Abroad Life

The Nigerian experience is physical, emotional, and sometimes international. No one knows it better than our features on #TheAbroadLife, a series where we detail and explore Nigerian experiences while living abroad.

Today’s subject on Abroad Life moved to Russia when he was 17 instead of joining his family in the US because he wanted some independence. He talks about discovering himself in Russia, leaving religion, living a double life, and being scared of facing his parents again.

When did you first decide to leave Nigeria?

In my last year of secondary school, my mum and little sister left Nigeria to be with my dad in the US, but I couldn’t join them because I had to write WAEC. The plan was that when I finished secondary school, I would go and join them.

How long had your dad been in the US?

About six years. He left for work when I was 10 and never came back to Nigeria, and not living with him in my more aware years meant we didn’t really have a relationship.

After secondary school, I wrote JAMB and POST UTME to go to UNILAG and got admission. My parents’ plan was to make me go to UNILAG so I wasn’t idle, but also start processing admission into a university in the US. Me, I had different plans.

    Such as?

I didn’t want to join them. I wanted to stay in Lagos. I grew up in a small town in Western Nigeria and didn’t get to do much. I was questioning religion and the values my mum raised me by, so I wanted some freedom. Lagos was supposed to fix that for me, but I hated staying there really quickly.

    Why?

It was a terrible place. It was always rowdy and generally felt unsafe. Very bad vibes. UNILAG itself was a struggle for me because I didn’t get a hostel, so I had to find an apartment outside school and make the commute every day. That’s the worst period of my life.

One day in my second semester, I got a WhatsApp message from a friend. They’d sent one of those broadcasts advertising scholarships in Russia, and for some reason, I decided to apply. If Lagos wouldn’t frre me, I’d find freedom elsewhere.

How did the application process go?

Smoothly. I didn’t have to do a visa interview. I just compiled all the documents they asked for and sent them. In the same period when I was applying for the scholarship, my parents were ready for me to start my US university application. They sent me money for processing the admission and to write my SATs, but I spent it on the most random stuff. I was pretty confident the scholarship was going to go through because the process was moving swiftly. There was a lot of back and forth. I lied to my parents that I was processing my SATs and US admission just to keep them off my back for a bit.

After some time, I stopped hearing from the Russians, and that’s when I started getting scared. But I still didn’t tell my parents. I was holding on, hoping something good would happen.

    And…

The visa came. I was so relieved. I finally told my parents, and while they were angry at first, they calmed down when they heard “scholarship”. I wouldn’t spend money on my university education? They were in.

On Christmas Day in 2017, I left Nigeria and went to Russia. The scholarship paid for everything, including my flights.

    Expectation vs Reality: Russia Edition.

Because I did some reading online, the two things I expected were the cold in the winter and racism. . But, I promise you, nothing can ever mentally prepare you for the cold that’ll hit your body when you step out of the airport. I had to run back inside to gather my thoughts before going out again.

I’ve been here for almost five years, and I’m still not used to the cold. I don’t think I ever will be. In the winter, I stay indoors except it’s absolutely necessary to go out, like when I need to go grocery shopping.

One more thing. People talk about the winter in Russia; they forget to talk about the summers. The winters go as low as -37°C, but the summers also go as high as 40°C. That’s hotter than a lot of places in Nigeria get.

    And the racism?

I don’t know if I can call Russians racist. I think they’re just ignorant because they’re not so exposed. I don’t live in a big city, so when some white people see me, it’s probably their first time ever seeing a black person. I’d be on the bus and get questions like, “Why is your skin black? Did you paint it?” I’d see genuine looks of confusion on their faces. Whenever I walk past children playing on the roads, I see them stop and stare. Like they’ve just seen a ghost. I don’t know if I’d consider all of that as racism.

That’s interesting. Was it difficult settling in?

For a couple of reasons, it was. First, it was the cold. Every day I went out was the worst day ever. I would come back home freezing. Second,  the language. My delayed visa meant I had to learn the nine-month language course in six months. I went for the classes, but communicating was difficult in the periods when I didn’t know the language. I babbled a lot and used hand gestures.

I also found it hard to make friends. When I got here, I met Nigerians but many of them were religious, and I was trying to leave religion.

On my first week, someone invited me for a Friday night vigil. I was tired and slept off, and the ushers came to wake me up. It was in that moment I realised I didn’t want to do Christianity anymore. I believe in God, but I’ve always had questions about the worship of God in organised religion. I couldn’t ask those questions when I was a child. With my new found freedom, I didn’t have to bother about it.

    Did you eventually make friends?

Yes. Most of my friends are southern African. People from that part of Africa are more liberal and open to new ideas. Many of them didn’t grow up with religion, so they seemed like the perfect people for me.

    How were things in school?

They were going pretty smoothly. The school accommodations were terrible, so after my first year, I moved out and got a shared apartment with a few of my friends. I was making money from freelance writing online and getting monthly stipends from the scholarship, so I was able to split the bills with my friends.

The more I hung out with them, the more my views on a lot of things changed.

    Things like what?

Growing up, I used to look at people who drank and smoked like they were deviants. As I saw my friends do it, I started to open up to the idea that people who did things like that were normal people like me. Gradually, I also started drinking, smoking, going to clubs and going for parties, and I really liked it. It made me feel free.

Because I was going to a lot of parties, I got interested in music and started learning how to DJ online. In my personal time, I made DJ mixes that were a mixture of house music and southern African music, and whenever we went to parties, I told people I was a DJ. People who were interested asked if I had a sample, I played it for them, and that’s how I started getting jobs. Now, I make good money as a DJ.

    Nice.

But the thing is, my parents don’t know I’m living the life I’m living. Every day, I live two lives — one in reality, and another where I constantly lie to my parents. They don’t know I’m a DJ, they don’t know I drink and smoke, they don’t know I sleep around, they don’t know I have tattoos. They just think their son is studying hard in Russia and will come to join them in the US when he finishes his education this 2022.

Are you going to join them?

I’m afraid to. I’m not at the point in my life where I can face my mum despite the things I’m doing. I can’t pretend when I’m with them because I smoke cigarettes, and I probably would need to smoke after a few days. The thought of my mum’s reaction to my tattoos is scary enough to make me stay away. I miss them, but I’m only going to see them when I’m confident enough in myself to defend my actions. I don’t know what that’ll take or when it’ll be, but it’s not now.

Do you know what you’ll do when you’re done with education in Russia?

My friends and I have joked about moving to the Netherlands because weed is legal there, but when we tried, we couldn’t get the Schengen visas because of lockdown.

How do you get your weed in Russia?

    The dark web.

    Sir?

There are sites on the dark web where you order weed, pay and they give you coordinates to where they’ll drop it on a random street near you. It’s movie-like stuff. During the lockdown in 2020, I also got into psychedelics like mushrooms and LSD, and that’s how I order my stuff.

You were talking about where you would go after you get your degree.

Maybe South Africa. Or the UK. I don’t know yet. I have to make up a lie to tell my parents first. Maybe I’ll tell them I’m going to do my master’s somewhere.

Have you ever thought of returning to Nigeria?

My mum won’t let me. She doesn’t want us to go back because she thinks Nigeria has nothing more to offer. Every time I bring up going back home just to visit and eat Nigerian food, she says they’re using juju to call me and I shouldn’t answer them.

I decided to go for two weeks without her permission in 2020, but shortly before I bought my tickets, lockdown happened. I’m thankful I didn’t go. I would have been stuck there.

LMAO. Are there many Nigerians in Russia?

So, so many, and the Nigerian population greatly increased during the 2018 World Cup where people didn’t need visas to come to Russia and watch the World Cup. Many Nigerians from Nigeria didn’t come here for the World Cup; they came to japa.

Did you watch the World Cup?

I did. I took a 48-hour train to watch Nigeria vs Iceland. It was fun.

    48 hours!?

People don’t realise just how massive Russia is. A lot of people also don’t know that 77% of Russia is in Asia, while 23% is in Europe, and the 23% amounts for almost 40% of the total area of Europe. I live in European Russia. This is where most of the population lives.

Mad. What’s your favourite part about living in Russia?

The safety and the freedom. I have never for a moment felt unsafe in Russia. I can go out by 3 a.m. and be sure nothing bad will happen to me. It’s the same for women. You almost never hear that someone was hurt. When I leave here, it’s what I’ll miss the most.

  • 9 Resolutions Nigerian Men Should Adopt in 2022

9 Resolutions Nigerian Men Should Adopt in 2022

Can you believe we actually made it into the new year? From Covid releasing new variants every three to five working days to Nigeria actively trying to kill us with stress, we can’t deny the fact that 2021 came for us real hard. But like Agege bread, still, we rise. A new year brings with it the need to compile a long list of resolutions we might not remember in March. To make things easy for our Nigerian men, we came up with an easily adoptable list of things we should do more of in 2022. Good luck and a happy new year.

    Avoid wicked women

This year, we are avoiding wicked women with vim. If she gives you a headache once, send a breakup email the next day. Don’t allow love to give you high blood pressure. Statistics allegedly state that there are more women than men in Nigeria, so there’s literally plenty of fish in the sea. Carry your hook and keep fishing.

    Post more thirst traps

As Nigerian men, we must step up our thirst trap game in 2021. This year, any and every opportunity you get to be a hoe on Buhari’s internet, please take it. Post that shirtless picture today, don’t wait until you get a six-pack.  Life is short. Get naked now.

    Spend women’s money

It’s not every time you should be spending your money on the woman or women in your life. Come on, don’t you like creamy pasta too? Trust us, these women have crazy money. Ask them how much frontals cost and you’ll understand that we are the ones in need of serious spoiling. Eat a Nigerian woman’s money today and enjoy your life.

Tell your friends and family you love them

We are not doing hard guy this year. Be expressive and honest with the people in your life. If there’s one thing 2020 and 2021 has shown us, it’s that life is short. Cherish your family and friends and let them know how you feel about them. Hard guy no dey pay.

    Invest in skincare

Are you still using multi-purpose washing soap and vaseline on your face in 2022? Please and please, we need to leave that rubbish in 2021. Lack of skincare is why Nigerian women are aging like wine, while the men are aging like fried rice. Exfoliate, cleanse, tone and moisturise. We know skincare can be expensive, but what’s stopping you from stealing your girlfriend’s products?

    Secure the bag

This year, if it’s not about money, don’t waste your time. While money might be the “root of all evil”, it’s also necessary for us to pay rent, fuel our car and buy alcohol. Streets are hard, secure the bag today.

    Wear more ashewo shorts

We already did this in 2021, but what’s stopping us from bringing it into 2022? That’s right, nothing. This year, once the shorts get to your knees, it’s officially a pair of trousers. Nigeria is hot, show some legs and receive fresh air abeg.

    Invest in your friendships

In a time when there’s always so much happening so fast, we sometimes forget to keep up with our friends and their lives. We are all chasing money, true, but we should also invest our time and energy in maintaining friendships this year. If you don’t have your guys in your corner, who else do you have?

    Always choose you

You see that job you’re killing yourself for, the moment you die, they’ll put out an ad on Tech Cabal for your position. It’s just the way life goes. In 2021, choose yourself no matter what. If you feel stressed or overwhelmed, communicate it and take a break. If you feel like you’ve been put in an uncomfortable position, make sure you remain your number one priority. We’re not asking you to be selfish, but please live life for yourself and no one else.

  • 12 Crazy Moments That Had Us Shook in 2021

12 Crazy Moments That Had Us Shook in 2021

2021 was wild. This year alone, we witnessed Covid’s many rebrands (Omricon or Omarion), saw a billionaire’s butt on the internet, watched Nigeria disgrace itself at the Tokyo Olympics and also welcomed the reunion of our favorite break-dancing twins. While the year had some cute moments, we are more than happy to say goodbye. R.I.P 2021, the evil you have done is enough.

    1. The time Dangote broke the internet

We should’ve known 2021 was going to be wild the moment it started with our imaginary glucose guardian’s butt on the internet. To be honest, we never experredit. This was also during the peak of Clubhouse, so as you can imagine, the drama was at an all-time high. What a moment.

    2. The time we got naked for the silhouette challenge

Once upon a time, we all left our real jobs and decided to become red light strippers for one day. Driven by thirst and the need to sell our market, this challenge was one of the highlights of the year. 2021 was still fresh and we were still gingered so a lirru bit of nakedness wasn’t a big deal. It was also shocking to learn that most of you can’t spell silhouette. Wow.

    3. The time Bubu and Lai Mohammed fought Twitter

Just small play between Jack Dorsey, Bubu and our fave, Lai Mohammed and now, we are all jumping from one country to the other thanks to battery-draining VPNs? This life is not balanced at all. While the suspension was supposed to be “temporary”, it’s been almost eight months and nothing has changed. God save us.

    4. The time Tiwa dragged Seyi Shay’s in an epic salon battle

Celebrities are known to beef and sub each other online, rarely in person. But do you all remember the time Seyi Shay said “Hi” to Tiwa Savage in a Lagos salon and Tiwa decided to read and drag her for filth? We do too! Just as we were getting used to the Twitter ban, this one happened too. Honestly, June was a very chaotic month.

    5. The time Essence made history

While Wizkid has been called “Big W” for a while now, this year, he actually earned this title. Dominating airwaves, social media posts, clubs, the Billboard Hot 100 and even our mothers’ driving playlists, Wiz and Tems’ Essence was a madness this year. One of our feel-good moments of the year, we couldn’t have been prouder. Next up, the Grammys

    6. The time TikTok had us in a chokehold

Raise your hand if you don’t have a TikTok account. Now, kindly drop your hands in shame since you’ve shown everyone you’re not a cool kid. Nigerian TikTok was everywhere this year. From the Nollywood clips that went on to inspire themed parties to the incredible Nigerian creatives and challenges that had us in stitches, we couldn’t get enough of TikTok this year.

    7. The time Obi Cubana called us broke bitches

Before July 2021, not a lot of people could attach a face to the name Obi Cubana and now, months later, we’re still not over the unforgettable funeral that had the whole of Nigeria shook. From random celebrity sightings to a shitload of wealth on display, everyone who was anyone was at Oba blowing money like it was running out of fashion. We were all forced to look at our accounts and re-evaluate our lives. Poverty will humble you.

    8. The time Nigeria disgraced itself (not us) at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics

In a not-so-surprising turn of events, we had to deal with second-hand embarrassment when Nigeria went to compete at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Fumbling the bag yet again, Nigeria lost out on a Puma deal worth a shitload of money and all we could do was watch. It was so bad, athletes had to wash their kits by hand the night before competitions. The ghetto.

    9. The time everyone started moaning on Twitter

One minute you’re going about your life as a morally upright member of society and the next thing, you’re in a Twitter space with over 18,000 people listening to different people recite incantations in the name of moaning. Why were we in this space? Well, that’s not your business dear. All we know is, at this point, It’s safe for us to assume that only 20 people will be making heaven from this part of the continent.

    10. The time Davido pulled a Robin Hood

Forget it, people have money in this country. In November, ahead of his tenth 21st birthday, Davido came on Twitter, dropped his account number and asked everyone who he’s given a hit song to send him ₦1 million each. Omo, before we could spell assurance, he had raised over ₦100 million. Our heads were on fire. He eventually closed the whole thing off with over ₦200 million. While a lot of people debated on what he should do with the money, he eventually announced that he’d be donating it all to charity. Awwwww.

    11. The time Peter and Paul decided that blood is thicker than Viju milk

When PSquare was on top, they were untouchable! But in 2016, after many years on stage, our favourite twins ended their musical partnership with so much chaos and drama, the internet couldn’t contain both of them. However, after years as upcoming musicians, they eventually got back together in one of the most surprising twists of the year. Did they come back to beg for money on Twitter? Well, who cares? We can finally dance Do Me in peace again and that’s all that matters.

    12. The time they mistakenly let it slip that we might’ve gotten expired vaccines

We have one question for the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), please ma’am, what do you mean by “again”?

  • 5 Film Critics on the Best Nollywood Acting Performances of 2021

5 Film Critics on the Best Nollywood Acting Performances of 2021

After a pretty dim 2020 caused by the arrival of a global panini and a general lockdown, Nollywood seems to be getting back on its feet.

This year marked the return of massive cinema blockbusters, interesting streaming options that stole our weekends and subtle indie underdogs that might have gone unnoticed by the public. Carrying these films are actors whose performances either moved us deeply or left us unconvinced by their character’s actions, motivations and sometimes, accent.

To wrap up the year, we spoke to five Nollywood critics and enthusiasts on the acting performances that defined Nollywood in 2021.

Daniel Okechukwu, Inside Nollywood  – Nonso Bassey in La Femme Anjola

Nonso Bassey’s turn in La Femme Anjola is proof that singers can be excellent actors too — after all, singing is performing. As the antihero in this Nollywood Noir, he’s both tender and lethal. He gives a thorough leading performance, made more remarkable by the fact that he was going toe to toe with an icon like Rita Dominic.

Bassey’s performance doesn’t succumb to Dominic’s, it compliments it. His performance shows an actor who can do it all if he’s pushed — he can be charming, ferocious, naughty and intense. Give him more leading roles.

Anita Eboigbe, NollywoodAnd – Ijeoma Grace Agu in Swallow

The one good thing that made Kunle Afolayan’s Swallow bearable enough to watch was Ifeoma Grace Agu’s obvious commitment to the role. Agu is not a flashy actress but she transforms into the characters she plays from Taxi Driver to Sylvia and now, Swallow. Her performance helps you get over your disappointment in the way the film turns out.

Dika Ofoma, Freelance Writer – Nengi Adoki in Juju Stories

As Joy, Nengi Adoki is as sultry as she is menacing (while looking like a deeper life babe). How did she achieve this? In the hands of a different actor, Joy could’ve been over the top, theatrical, but Adoki stays in control and keeps her restrained. Her performance helps with the mystery surrounding the character and there’s something about her eyes that just terrifies you.

Adoki’s turn as Joy is one of the best performances I’ve ever seen from Nollywood.

Ikeade Oriade, What Kept Me Up – Adedimeji Lateef in Ayinla

We can visit any Nollywood set tomorrow to hand this actor his award because I’m sure we’ll find him on every film set. Not a cloned actor, not a double, it’s just Adedimeji Lateef. He is probably the hardest working actor in Nollywood, appearing in at least five major releases of 2021.

His performance as the titular character in the critically and commercially successful Ayinla is worthy of being highlighted.

Wilfred Okiche, Freelance Writer – Jude Akuwudike in Eyimofe

It’s easy to be skeptical about Jude Akuwudike’s casting as an average low-income Nigerian in Eyimofe (This is My Desire), after all, this is an actor who has an English accent after living and working in the UK for years. However, when you meet his character, your doubts settle over time because he does a wonderful job in the role.

The way Akuwudike works with his face and body, you get to see and feel every emotion his character is navigating on-screen. The best part, his performance is very subtle and non-showy. It’s all very introspective.

  • It’s Important to Set Boundaries With Your Parents — Man Like Yinka Bernie

It’s Important to Set Boundaries With Your Parents — Man Like Yinka Bernie
What does it mean to be a man? Surely, it’s not one thing. It’s a series of little moments that add up. Man Like is a weekly Zikoko series documenting these moments to see how it adds up. It’s a series for men by men, talking about men’s issues. We try to understand what it means to “be a man” from the perspective of the subject of the week.

Today’s Man Like is Yinka Bernie, a singer, producer and all-around creative whose work has been a crucial part of Nigeria’s alté scene since its SoundCloud days. He is also the producer behind the viral Amaarae song, Sad Girlz Luv Money. Over the years, he has also worked with other artists Lady Donli and Ogranya.

In this episode of Man Like, he talks about being a problem child, pivoting from music to tech, the relationship that changed his life and whether or not he’d ever consider coming back to music full time.

When would you say you had your “man now” moment?

I’ll say about two years ago when I turned 22 and started paying my brother’s allowance.

You started paying someone’s allowance at 22?

Yes. LOL. So I had just started to work and earn money when my parents got on my case to start taking financial responsibilities. After thinking about it for a while, I decided I’d start paying my younger brother’s allowance. Although it wasn’t life-changing money, my parents knew I was making a lot of money for my age and I could afford it.

You told your parents how much you were earning? Can never be me.

I didn’t tell them, they could see it. I switched up my lifestyle and they could tell I was making money. I was buying a lot of stuff, leaving the house a lot and I wasn’t asking them for allowance.

Not asking for money is where you messed up.

Right? But I also remember they had stopped sending me allowance in university too. After I sold my first beat and told my father how much I made, the next thing I knew, my allowance started coming late and over time it just stopped completely. I was about 20 years old at the time.

Did you ask them or did you just chest it?

I asked, but they were like, “You’re making money. What do you need our money for?” This didn’t mean that they didn’t give me money when I was very broke. But yes, they stopped the allowance because they knew I was making money.

All this money talk has me thinking you might be the first child.

    You’re very correct.

Ah. Now I get it. So what were you like as the leader of the pack?

Mehn, being the first, I don’t think I was a good example to my siblings when we were growing up. I’ve grown and unlearnt some things and now I’m decent, but if we check two or three years ago, it wasn’t the same.

    How?

I was doing random shit like fighting my parents a lot, not coming back home, etc. And even growing up, I was the problem child spoiling everything in my path. I remember the time I just jumped on the center table in our living room and broke it. All my siblings were jumping on the cushion but I chose that table and broke it. I chopped beating that day and rightfully so.

You clearly chose violence. What’s your relationship with your parents like?

As you can imagine, it wasn’t good back then because I was very mischievous. However, as I’ve gotten older, we’ve become really cool. They’re like my guys now.

    Mad!

But I had to change it for them and set clear boundaries before they could finally understand and accept me as a grown adult. It took a lot of conflict and arguments to get to this point. I don’t think people realise the importance of setting boundaries with your parents. It’s always parents setting rules we should follow. I had to be firm and now they know not to call me at certain times or ask me really personal questions.

But how did you enforce these boundaries?

We had a lot of back and forth. They’d raise their voices and I’d raise mine too. In the end, everyone will calm down and look at the situation. Other parents might have thrown their kids out, but my parents knew that threat wouldn’t work on me because I could afford a place if I wanted to. Somehow, we reached a meeting point after I got them to understand that our generations are different and things have changed.

With some parents still being sceptical about music as a career choice, I’m curious as to whether that came up in your many conversations?

Obviously! So I studied Computer Technology in university and they wanted me to pursue it career-wise because the music wouldn’t be sustainable. I got where they were coming from because I had gauged the situation myself and chasing music alone wouldn’t have worked out well financially. Although my heart was still in music, I took a break in 2018, learnt how to code and started exploring other options. I eventually got a tech job in July 2019 and I liked it.

What was it like switching to tech?

It was seamless and fun for me. I didn’t have to dress “corporate”. Plus, it was a creative design job so it wasn’t boring at all.

    Are you still there?

Oh it was an internship, but now I’m with Flutterwave.

Unicorn status? You’re a proper tech bro o

    LOL

I know you’ve started making music again, how do you combine it with your job?

I started producing when I was about 16 or 17 so I can confidently say I’ve mastered how to work well and fast. It’s not difficult for me. I just open my laptop; make a beat or record vocals depending on what I’m working on. Taking out time away from music in 2018, I was able to find my footing and now I can afford to do music properly.

    Found your footing how?

During the period I was away, I found a system that works for me. This time around, I’ve learnt how to delegate. I know I can do everything myself, but I don’t have to. I’m delegating so I don’t start to stress out.

Will you ever do music full-time again?

Yes. I plan on retiring from nine to five soon. It’s been great gaining experience from these cool tech companies, but in time, I’ll pick something less time-consuming so I can go back to music. Music has brought me this far and I know it’ll take me farther. I’m still young, so I have time to explore anything I want to do.

Talking about your music, a lot of it revolves around navigating relationships. Can you tell me about one relationship that left a major impression on you?

I haven’t really dated that much.

Okay, maybe I have. LOL. So I was in this relationship with some babe who was so dishonest, the relationship left me scarred. What started as me trying to empathise with a situation she was going through, ended up with us being in a relationship. There was a lot of manipulation and I just felt stuck most of the time. That relationship changed my perception of love and how it manifests. It taught me that you could love someone and still be in an unhealthy relationship. It was hard for me to trust any girl after that. When they talk, I assume they’re lying. But I’m working on my trust issues so I can allow my other relationships to flourish.

Wow. But how are you working on the trust thing?

The first step for me was acknowledging that I had a problem. I’m also trying to be optimistic in my relationships by giving people the benefit of a doubt when they speak. But last last, people are funny. I’ll just do my best to trust the process and let the relationship go in whatever direction it wants to go. I’m also conscious about being with someone who understands that it’s not about them, it’s just something I have to work on.

I feel you. Still on the music, your song It’s Ok to Cry reminded us about the importance of connecting to our feelings. What inspired the song and when was the last time you cried?

The ironic thing is I don’t express myself that much, so I don’t cry often.

    So you scammed us?

LOL. No. I’m still trying to figure out how to connect to my emotions on that level, but I understand the concept sha. Whether or not I cry, I still feel like I’m just a medium sharing messages from a greater source (I don’t know who or what). I’m happy people can relate to the song. When I think about it, making the song was random. Although I was in a really happy place in my life mentally, I was still able to reflect on the darkness of the previous year (2019) where I was stuck while all my friends were making progress.

    Stuck how?

It was when I took a break from music to focus on getting a job. Most of my friends who had left university with me were doing jobs they liked and being great at it. I was just there in one place, trying to figure my life out. It was really hard for me.

Damn. So since you’re not a crier, I’m curious to know how you handle these dark days?

I talk to people a lot. I express my emotions by sharing what I’m going through. I talk to my sister and most of my friends. It’s just about talking to the people I trust.

Talking about dark places, what are some of the challenges you’ve observed when it comes to navigating masculinity in Nigeria?

There’s an information gap. We don’t really groom male children in Nigeria. There isn’t a lot of focus on developing men mentally and socially and that’s why we have so much violence. There isn’t a lot of information and people don’t know better. Our parents didn’t teach us a lot and now we have to rely on the internet.

What is something you’ve had to unlearn with the presence of new information?

Over time, I’ve come to understand equality more. Growing up, I didn’t really notice the disparities in how men and women were treated by society. I’ve come to understand this gap better as I’ve gotten older.

Nice. So looking at your life now, what brings you joy?

    My babe. Lol

    Single people in the mud.

    She gives me joy.

    Congratulations o!
