Nigeria’s creative landscape is going through a wholesome transformative growth, thanks to many factors including increased investment in the industry as well as improved training in different aspects of the creative ecosystem. Although these trainings have existed, they lacked key elements like partnership, mentorship and the needed structure to rightly position trainees for a good head start.

Launched in April 2022 by Accelerate, in partnership with Access Bank and The School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, The Phoenix Project has emerged as a powerful catalyst for training and mentoring young talents and igniting a creative revolution in the country. Since its inception, the Phoenix Project has provided an opportunity for young Nigerians with a passion for creativity, offering a range of courses from Film and Production to Vlogging, to the Business of Entertainment, providing a comprehensive platform for emerging artists, entrepreneurs, and visionaries to explore their potential.

Bridging the Gap in the Creative Industry

The creative sector which was once considered lowly has turned into a hub for exporting Nigeria’s culture across the world from music to fashion to arts and more, and making major contributions to the Nigerian economy. The Phoenix Project has catered to a large population of youths who need to upskill and explore the opportunities the creative industry provides; providing them with practical, industry-relevant skills. For Nigeria, a rich haven with creative assets, this initiative serves as an opportunity for the creative industry to grow and continue making significant contributions to the nation and world. Through its curriculum and hands-on approach, the Phoenix Project equips its participants with the tools, knowledge, and skills needed to excel in their chosen fields. With a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship, the project encourages creativity by empowering its learners to transform their creative ideas into businesses.

    A Trailblazing Journey

As Nigerian creatives continue to capture the world’s attention, The Phoenix Project is poised to be at the forefront of this transformative journey. The first two cohorts have produced a remarkable group of trailblazers, making waves across various industries. From music and film to art, fashion, and business, graduates of the Phoenix Project are influencing and shaping the future of Nigeria’s creative landscape.

    A Lifeline Amidst Challenges

The Phoenix Project arrives at a critical juncture in Nigeria, where youth unemployment remains a pressing issue. With limited opportunities available to the creative talent pool, this initiative offers a lifeline to young Nigerians seeking to pursue careers in the creative sector.

Youth unemployment in Nigeria has been a pressing issue, with numerous talented young individuals facing the reality of limited job availability. As the creative industry flourishes, the Phoenix Project, through its comprehensive courses and hands-on training, equips aspiring talents who yearn to translate their creative dreams into viable careers with the requisite skills and knowledge required to thrive in the creative industry.

By offering an alternative to the prevailing narrative of youth unemployment, the Phoenix Project empowers young Nigerians to pursue careers that align with their passions, providing a safety net that propels them toward self-sufficiency and self-fulfillment, instilling a sense of entrepreneurship, purpose and pride.

As these young talents graduate from the Phoenix Project, they don’t seek jobs but become the job creators, innovators, and leaders who will shape the future of Nigeria’s creative sector.

  • SeedFI: Fueling Economic Growth Through Credit Access Expansion

SeedFI: Fueling Economic Growth Through Credit Access Expansion

SeedFi, a digital-first lending company, has set its sights on expanding access to credit to fuel Nigeria’s economic growth. In a nation where a significant portion of the population lacks the typical collateral and credit history required by traditional lenders, SeedFi aims to bridge the financing gap by reaching out to peri-urban populations, small business owners, artisans, and other groups typically left out by traditional lending institutions.

    SeedFi Co-founders

According to Pelumi Alli, the Founder and CEO of SeedFi, this commitment arises from a critical observation: a staggering 67 percent of Nigerians refrain from seeking credit, even from family and friends. The reasons behind this reluctance include the unavailability of data for decision-making, limited access to formal financial services for specific demographics, a lack of financial education, and a general distrust in the financial system.

To address these challenges, SeedFi has embarked on a mission that not only expands credit access but also offers financial education and fosters trust among consumers. They do this by sharing valuable information on building a solid credit profile and effectively managing personal finances, all while providing flexible repayment structures.

Alli emphasizes SeedFi’s unique approach, saying, “By leveraging data from various sources, we’ve developed innovative credit scoring models that assess creditworthiness and offer loans to individuals and businesses with limited or no formal credit history.” SeedFi’s innovative data-driven strategies are instrumental in reducing the risks associated with lending.

SeedFi envisions a world where the aspirations of young Africans are supported through access to credit and financing. They strive to improve the credit experience for borrowers while managing risk for lenders by leveraging insights from diverse data sources. Their goal is to bridge the financing gap with flexible, convenient, and affordable digital lending solutions tailored to meet the diverse needs of customers.

What sets SeedFi apart from others in the lending market, according to Alli, is its commitment to customer-centric practices. They take pride in the reducing principal balance interest calculations, ensuring that each customer pays less in interest charges with every repayment. Additionally, they offer the convenience of rescheduling loan repayment dates to suit the borrower’s needs.

Samaila Dogara, the Co-Founder said one of SeedFi’s standout features is their “cluster” lending option, which allows customers to obtain loans as a group, fostering accountability among members to maintain good credit scores.

Transparency and integrity, Dogara enthused are core values at SeedFi, which is why SeedFi does not impose hidden fees, and all costs are clearly communicated to customers before any charges are applied. Loan terms and conditions are presented in a clear and easily understandable manner, with customer consent being a priority.

As the financial landscape evolves, SeedFi remains poised to embrace the future. Research shows that as financial education improves, middle to low-income earners are more willing to use credit rather than deplete their savings for significant purchases. This shift, fueled by the growth of the digital economy, has created opportunities in sectors such as Buy-Now-Pay-Later (BNPL) and increased demand for credit cards, all of which SeedFi is actively exploring.

Alli stated that SeedFi’s mission to expand credit access is not just about providing loans; it’s about fostering economic growth, empowering individuals and businesses, and creating a brighter financial future for all Nigerians.

With their innovative approach and unwavering commitment to transparency and integrity, SeedFi is poised to make a significant impact on the financial landscape of Nigeria and beyond.

  • Sub-Saharan African Youth Prioritize Financial and Professional Success Over Personal Happiness

Sub-Saharan African Youth Prioritize Financial and Professional Success Over Personal Happiness
    • 17% and 15% of Sub-Saharan youth are more concerned with personal success and reaching their goals respectively, over personal happiness.
    • Results form part of a global consultation of 45,000 people organized by Youth Talks, the world’s largest open youth consultation.
    • Report highlights social issues spotlighted by Nigerian and Sub-Saharan African youth including individualism, education, corruption, and discrimination.

Youth Talks, an initiative of the Higher Education for Good Foundation, has unveiled insightful data in a global report compiled from over 45,000 participants aged between 15 – 29, spanning 212 countries and territories. As the first edition of the report from its consultation, the world’s largest open youth consultation, it is an unprecedented data collection revealing the desires and needs of youth globally, answering the questions of what they need to help them find meaning in life, live more harmoniously, and thus together try and meet the challenges of our time.

Youth Talks uses state-of-the-art A.I. technology to analyze responses, enabling contributors to answer open-ended questions and distilling 1 million uncensored contributions into rich, comprehensible and actionable insights. It reveals an extraordinary diversity of themes, ideas, nuances, and points of view, illustrating the dynamism and diversity of today’s youth. Results from the consultation also unveiled important insights and opinions about Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa from its youth.

“The massive involvement of African youth in the consultation as participants and ambassadors demonstrates their strong desire to express themselves and actively participate in international decision-making. This highlights the importance of giving the younger generation from this region a platform to voice their opinions and contribute to solving the issues they face. By doing so, we can ensure that their unique perspectives are considered when shaping policies and initiatives that impact their future and the world at large.”, said Marine Hadengue, Director of Youth Talks.

The number one contribution from Nigerian participants focused on the paradox of individualism (mentioned by 21% of participants), with respondents stressing the need to love one another and criticizing selfishness in society. Other issues highlighted by Nigerian respondents included the stagnation of the educational system (16%), political issues such as corruption and nepotism (12%), discrimination and inequalities (11%), and the lack of young people empowerment (9%).

The results also showcased significant differences between youths in Sub-Saharan Africa and other parts of the world, whereby Sub-Saharan African youths were more interested in concepts such as a search for purpose, achievement, and personal development, rather than success, happiness, and financial situation. In terms of what they prioritized for the future, personal happiness ranked seventh, behind financial and professional matters.

In addition, the report also revealed that Sub-Saharan African youth are particularly concerned with the environment (24%), wars and conflicts (20%), and the economy (11%). Their thoughts about the future are haunted by the spectres of poverty, social inequalities, and a dearth of job opportunities. Around 10% of participants in the region expressed their concerns about human behaviour in general, as they worry about an increase in human cruelty and a lack of humanity.

“Seventy-six per cent of the leaders of tomorrow – today’s youth – think that the older generations either don’t know or are deliberately ignoring their vital interest,” said Marine Hadengue, Director of Youth Talks.

“The younger generations are the future of humanity. They are the people who will initiate the greatest changes in a world turned upside down by our past actions. The priority of leaders today should be on ensuring that this generation can express themselves freely, without imposing on them the thoughts or paradigms of another era. Youth Talks was created precisely to address this challenge. We are evolving in our mission from giving youth a platform to raise their issues, to giving them a seat at the table. By doing so, we hope to empower the youth to not only raise their voices on the issues that matter but also to contribute to solving them.”

The initiative was established with the hope that leaders in every part of the world will take note, and draw on these insights as they make decisions affecting the future. Perspectives gathered covered a range of issues including climate change, poverty, inequality, economic issues, racism and discrimination, and education amongst others. They are important for key stakeholders such as governments, educational institutions, youth organizations, businesses, and the general public, who are working to build a more sustainable future as they are a valuable resource that must be fully incorporated into major decision-making processes and actions of our time.

Youth Talks is an opportunity to gain insights into the priorities and concerns of the next generation. As a unique platform harnessing state-of-the-art artificial intelligence, its report will bring the voices of the world’s youth to the attention of organizations and individuals who shape societies globally. It is a global tool for change as an important conduit between what young people want and actionable societal change. The consultation by Youth Talks was carried out between October 2022 through May 2023 and provides a rich snapshot of the aspirations, hopes, and beliefs of young people around the world.

Defying Odds, Inspiring Greatness: The Future Awards Africa Honours Young Africans in Dazzling Fashion

The Future Awards Africa has celebrated its 17th award ceremony with dazzling spotlights, intriguing personalities, and odds-defying stories. Described as the “Nobel Prize for Young Africans” by the World Bank, the three-day event tagged “Defying Odds, Inspiring Greatness” celebrated young Africans who have continued to blaze the trail across various fields, including governance, agriculture, and arts.

Kicking off with the Future Conference on Friday, the 20th of October, the event smoothly sailed to the Nominees Gala on Saturday, the 21st of October, before finally rounding up the ceremony with a bedazzling award night that saw many young leaders converge at the Balmoral Convention Center in Victoria Island,  Lagos hosted by the incredible actors and media personalities James Gardiner and Victoria Adeyele popularly known as Veeiye.

This year, with 25 categories and more than 134 nominees, the Future Awards sought to tell young Africans’ beautiful, successful stories that have impacted their immediate communities and driven the African continent to global prominence. Understanding the various challenges that this demographic continues to face, we must recognise those who have broken beyond the stereotypes to make a name for themselves. This serves two purposes: it gives credit to whom credit is due, but more than that, it fosters hope and faith in the future of the African continent. The Future Awards showcase to the world the prospects of Africa as a whole and encourages those who still dream of impacting their community.”

  • MetaMask Adds Privacy-Preserving Security Alerts That Aim To Prevent Billions From Being Stolen

MetaMask Adds Privacy-Preserving Security Alerts That Aim To Prevent Billions From Being Stolen
    • MetaMask, in collaboration with Blockaid, a leading web3 security provider, launches security alerts that help stop malicious transactions before they happen, protecting users from scams, phishing, and hacks.
    • MetaMask and Blockaid developed a privacy-preserving module to simulate transactions while removing the need for users to share data with third parties.
    • Blockaid was recently able to protect over $100,000 of assets from being stolen in a high-profile case involving a hack of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s X account
    • Based on previous trends, when available to 100% of the MetaMask users, these alerts aim to prevent billions worth of assets from being stolen.
    • Nigeria is among the top 3 markets globally for MetaMask in terms of number of users.

Lagos, Nigeria, October 31st, 2023 — Today, MetaMask, the world’s leading self-custody web3 platform developed by Consensys, and Blockaid, a leading web3 security provider, announce the launch of privacy-preserving security alerts in the MetaMask extension. This new feature makes MetaMask the first self-custody web3 wallet to integrate native security alerts, proactively preventing malicious transactions, protecting users from scams, phishing, and hacks, all while preserving users’ privacy. MetaMask and Blockaid estimate that these privacy-preserving security alerts, available to all users globally, aim to prevent billions worth of assets from being stolen. The official launch is slated to commence on October 31st, 2023, with the ability for desktop users to opt-in under the MetaMask experimental setting. The feature will debut on the MetaMask mobile app later in November. By the first quarter of 2024, this new feature will be seamlessly integrated and enabled into the wallet by default, and the intention is to make it available to 100% of MetaMask’s users.

The First Wallet To Enhance Security Without Compromising Privacy

Most web3 wallets rely on sharing users’ transaction data with a third party for validation to provide security alerts. In contrast, MetaMask and Blockaid have pioneered a unique privacy-preserving module that effectively simulates transactions while eliminating the need to share every single transaction and signature request with external parties.

With these native privacy-preserving security alerts, MetaMask is not only enhancing user safety but also setting a new standard for privacy-preserving security in the web3 ecosystem. Privacy is a core value of web3 and should not need to be sacrificed to improve usability. Instead, it should be a guiding principle in the development of solutions to improve the space. As we continue to innovate, we remain committed to empowering users and providing them with the tools they need to navigate the world of web3 with confidence”, said Dan Finlay, Co-Founder of MetaMask and Chief Ethos Officer at Consensys.

Blockaid already has an established record of preventing theft. When Vitalik Buterin’s X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked to promote a malicious dapp, Blockaid’s proactive scanning was able to flag the bad actor and stop over $100,000 in digital assets from being stolen. When a similar scam targeted the CEO of Uniswap’s X account, Blockaid was able to prevent any losses from transpiring at all. These types of attacks occur regularly, so losses averted quickly add up.

A Game-Changer For User Safety, Protecting Billions Of Dollars In Assets

The web3 ecosystem is dynamic, with approximately 3-4 new dapps emerging every minute, translating to around 5,000 per day. Blockaid estimates that about 10% of these dapps are malicious. Unintended transaction outcomes have ranked among the most common causes of fund loss incidents within MetaMask. Security alerts that proactively thwart malicious transactions are pivotal in safeguarding users against scams, phishing, and hacks. In a recent survey commissioned by Consensys on the perceptions of web3, 52% of Nigerian respondents cited “too many scams” as one of the primary barriers for entering the crypto ecosystem, underscoring the importance of increasing user safety to broader adoption.

In April 2023, MetaMask and Blockaid jointly introduced Opensea security alerts as an experimental opt-in feature. This feature garnered adoption from an average of 4% of MetaMask users and effectively averted asset theft valued at $500 million, based on prevented and identified malicious transactions since April 2023. Due to the success of this experimental opt-in feature, MetaMask and Blockaid anticipate that the new privacy-preserving security alerts will prevent the loss of assets worth at least billions dollars when the feature becomes a default setting for MetaMask wallets.

“For the ecosystem to be ready for billions of users, it needs to be safer,” said Ido Ben-Natan, Co-founder and CEO of Blockaid. “We’re excited to be working with MetaMask on leading the charge in defining how a wallet should defend its users. Together we are setting the standard for web3 security across users and builders in the space.”

“In our commitment to prepare for the broader adoption of web3 by the next billion users, we acknowledge the importance of developing features that prioritize ease of use and accessibility while staying aligned with the core values of web3. This is the driving force behind our focus on creating a privacy-preserving version of security alerts, one that eliminates the need to share each transaction and signature request data with third parties. Blockaid’s dapp transaction validation solution protects users from malicious transactions without compromising their privacy”, added Barbara Schorchit, Senior Product Owner at MetaMask.

In September of this year, MetaMask introduced MetaMask Snaps for advanced users, with a Transaction Insights category. While the new privacy-preserving security alerts will be seamlessly integrated within MetaMask, users worldwide will continue to have the opportunity to incorporate their preferred security layers by installing transaction insights via MetaMask Snaps. The new security alerts are meant to supplement rather than replace Transaction Insights Snaps, creating multiple layers of protection.

    Education remains key

Blockaid’s partnership with MetaMask will have a substantial impact on bolstering security, but education remains pivotal in ensuring that users engage with the web3 ecosystem in a safe and self-managed manner. In January 2023, MetaMask unveiled MetaMask Learn, a learning simulation platform meticulously crafted to assist users in navigating the intricacies of the web3 landscape and self-custody wallets. This platform seamlessly integrates visual learning methodologies with action-oriented testing, offering a comprehensive and engaging approach to understanding the complexities inherent in web3 concepts. The recently launched module on Security aims to specifically educate users on how to identify malicious activity and keep their assets safe.

  • Why budgeting and tracking your expenses is important right now

Why budgeting and tracking your expenses is important right now

If it’s not a funny triggering tweet or long WhatsApp broadcast from my mum that I didn’t ask for, I’m constantly reminded that I live in a country where there’s always something to worry about. Even more annoying is the constant inflation in the prices of basic stuff like food, groceries or transportation that is thrown in our faces every day. I’m slowly turning into a hoodlum who argues with cab drivers. Me! A whole Lagos baddie turned hoodlum. God abeg!

I remember seeing the dollar to naira rate too recently and feeling a deep sense of financial anxiety. My dreams of saving enough to JAPA are slowly fading, combined with the existential crisis of the high cost of living in Nigeria. Basically, “God Abeg”  isn’t cutting it anymore, because whether I like it or not, I’m stuck here for a while so what I need is action and a quick one at that.

Pensive dark skinned girl creats interesting composition, sits near workplace with opened notebook and pencil, looks pensively aside, does hometask, prepares for examination, isolated on blue wall

After a few rant sessions with my friends, I was able to identify two actions I can take to maintain beauty, reach my money goals, and make intentional decisions while I chop life. Boys and girls, they are tracking my expenses weekly to get a clear picture of what I can, shouldn’t or actually do with my money, and budgeting to create boundaries as well. I can’t be the only one that impulse buys or gets things out of the  “I can afford it” mentality.

Trust me, stalking your account’s activities like I love to call it is good for you in the long run o. For example, I realized that I spend up to almost 90k a month on food from little 3k and 4k spent almost every day of the week at work. In my head, It felt like reasonable small amounts to spend on eating but I realized I can go for cheaper quality options and have more money to save or do more. Since then, I’ve been sticking to buying 2 times out of the week with a max spend of 2k.

Basically, I now know what to compromise on or not with everything. It’s how I can also decide to splurge on a girls night out while I take cheaper transport options for a week to work. It all comes down to what I can afford realistically observing my patterns over time. I think it’s safe to say that planning ahead for funds is my new go-to habit. And if you’re wondering how I do it easily,  I use gomoney, a digital bank for baddies like me, and baby boys who want to live a financially stable life, free of stress.

With the gomoney app, I get to tag and organize my transactions into categories like food, bills, groceries, investments, even enjoyment. Overall, It allows me to see my money moves, reflect realistically and plan accordingly. It’s making sense abi?  There’s nothing sweeter than having a very clear picture of what you can do better with your money, and finding out how to cut costs, and handle bills better too.

You can create the flexibility to make smart decisions on what you want versus what you need, even in economically chaotic times like this.  So even with the gbas gbos myself and you, my fellow tired but hardworking young Nigerian get to face, your lifestyle choices don’t have to be limited, just planned out. Want this too? Start by downloading the gomoney app from your App store (iOS) or Google Play store (Android), and you’re set for soft money management.

  • Tiger Eye Foundation Tackles Police Brutality in Newly Released #ENDSARS Documentary

Tiger Eye Foundation Tackles Police Brutality in Newly Released #ENDSARS Documentary

    Martha Sambe was in pain.

She had anticipated a peaceful protest where the Nigerian government would address police brutality. Instead, she found herself in an Abuja hospital, receiving stitches after police officers inflicted a severe head injury during the #ENDSARS protests.

“It’s hard to accept that in the fight for justice and safety from police brutality, I was brutalized by the police,” Martha said.

It was October 2020, and Martha, an Abuja-based writer, joined the nationwide #ENDSARS protests with hundreds of other young Nigerians. The movement rose in response to widespread bribery, extortion, harassment, and extrajudicial killings by the Nigerian police, especially by the now-disbanded rogue unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Martha hadn’t foreseen the intense resistance she would encounter. But she and countless other Nigerians faced violence from security operatives. Throughout the protests, participants were beaten, detained without cause, tear-gassed, and, tragically, some were killed.

“With how the protests were handled, the Nigerian government showed it has no problem killing its citizens just to subdue the rest. It’s shameful,” she noted.

Martha’s experience and those of many others affected by police brutality and the #ENDSARS protests of 2020 are the focus of the newly released documentary, “October 2020.”

The documentary by the Tiger Eye Foundation, a media nonprofit championing investigative journalism, looks into the events and aftermath of the 2020 #ENDSARS protests. It captures the movement’s enduring impact on Nigeria and the wider world three years later.

“October 2020” is produced and directed by multimedia journalist, Aisha Salaudeen and narrated by reporter, Abisola Alawode. It features activists, experts, and young protesters like Martha, all touched by police brutality and the #ENDSARS movement.

According to Tiger Eye Foundation, the aim of the documentary is not just to record history, but to ensure the lessons from ENDSARS pave the way for a brighter future for the country.

  • Adidas Originals Launches New Global Brand Platform: “We Gave the World an Original. You Gave Us a Thousand Back.”

Adidas Originals Launches New Global Brand Platform: “We Gave the World an Original. You Gave Us a Thousand Back.”

Lagos, 9th October 2023 – Since it was first introduced to the world over 50 years ago, the Trefoil has lived a thousand lifetimes, trading feet with everyone, from athletes to cultural pioneers. Marking the arrival of a new era for the brand. In 2023, adidas Originals pays homage to those that have continued to transport its iconic signifier – the Trefoil – to the forefront of culture, with a new global brand platform: “We Gave the World an Original. You Gave Us a Thousand Back.”

From sport to skate, music, and fashion, Originals have always stood the test of time. Celebrating this
enduring story, the Trefoil returns with a new chapter, headlined by three films shot by three creative
pioneers, and a selection of stills arranged in triptychs, each focusing on three timeless ‘characters’ from
the storied Three Stripes archive – the Superstar, the Gazelle, and the Samba. With each film and set of
images spotlighting a different silhouette, the narratives of the Trefoil’s history are interwoven with the
ways in which these iconic styles, born in sport, have been embraced, reinterpreted, and absorbed into
culture – time and time again.

First up, the celebrated director and founder of LoveSong production studio, Daniel Wolfe, lends his creative eye to the Superstar, as well as acting as a mentor for the other emerging directors in the series. Built for basketball, but adopted by Hip Hop, the classic leather Superstar changed the game the moment it stepped off the court and now its premium construction and timeless silhouette make it a ubiquitous icon. Wolfe’s film charts this journey from court icon to cultural powerhouse, including a cameo from famed Hip-Hop group RUN DMC who shook the world wearing the Shell Toe.

Next, racing from podiums to skate parks around the world, though the Gazelle started as a trainer, its
lightweight classic suede upper and gum sole have become symbolic of those who are willing to veer off track in the pursuit of innovation. The self-taught moving image maker, Will Dohrn, tells the story of the iconic silhouette through the lens of a young protagonist who moves across eras – dressed in archival adidas apparel, true to the timeline – meeting pro-skate duo Mike Arnold and Miles Silvas along the way.

Rounding out the trio is the Samba. First making headlines in soccer, the shoe’s low-profile silhouette and
gum sole have since become synonymous with subverting trends across the globe. The celebrated visual
artist, Justyna Obasi, captures the mythical tale of the Samba’s travels across time and space, beginning
with the fluid footwork of young soccer players and ending in the many cultural scenes that have made then shoe their own.

Each film is accompanied by a set of triptych stills shot by Chadwick Tyler, with some sets featuring
partners, collaborators, and friends of the brand that have helped to tell the story of the Trefoil the world
over including: Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, Jenna Ortega, Pusha T, Stormzy to name a few.

Three Stripes. Three signature icons. Three films. A thousand Originals.
The latest adidas Originals brand campaign is a collection of timeless stories; retold for tomorrow. Shop
the collection online and in stores.

  • Empowering the Next Generation of Vloggers with Infinix ZERO 30 5G

Empowering the Next Generation of Vloggers with Infinix ZERO 30 5G

    C:\Users\INFINIX-YEMISI\Downloads\LIFESTYLE 16 OCT 2.png

Many of today’s smartphones are now capable of professional grade photography, a far cry from the first generation of phones which were designed entirely as communications devices. In the early days of mobile phone technology, brands like Nokia were quickly developing devices that could do more than just phone calls. After the addition of SMS texting, features such as video games, support for mp3 audio playback, predictive text support and more became important features. These features soon became key points of product differentiation in the industry, and it wasn’t long before camera technology was integrated as a new feature.

Users soon discovered however that the image quality offered on a mobile phone was far behind the quality found on professional cameras. In 2005, users could expect to be treated to a rear camera with a 1.3-megapixel sensor, plus a basic LED flash that could produce photos of 1MP quality. To most users this was more of a novelty, than a go-to feature. The OS offered virtually no photography settings (other than flash on, or off) and of course, no video support at all.

Today, 4K video recording at 30fps and 60fps is a feature found on the rear cameras of most flagship smartphones. However, outside of high-end and flagship devices, it is seldom found as an option for younger users who prefer front camera photography. With the launch of ZERO 30 5G, Infinix has proven that it is possible to make front camera Ultra HD video a reality on a mid-tier device, but why is this important, and what advantages can it bring to users around the world?

4K video and the demands of young photographic maestros

The road to Ultra HD video recording may not have been an easy one, but today, the problem for many users is that genuine Ultra HD photography has until now at least been reserved for high-end, flagship devices that command top-tier prices. This is particularly true of the front camera, which on most more affordable, mid-tier smartphones remain limited to Full HD video recording.

It’s easy to understand why young people today are demanding Ultra HD video capability on their smartphones. 4K video looks better. Video content shot in 4K resolution captures far more detail thanks to the massive number of pixels involved. 4K means having 3840 pixels horizontally and 2160 pixels vertically. Multiply these values and you get 8,294,400 pixels, or approx 8.3 million pixels, or 8.3 megapixels. That’s a lot of pixels! This is way more than 1080p for example which equates to little over 2 million pixels.

Video quality isn’t just about pixels, a frame rate of 60fps also ensures greater clarity, even when the action ramps up, eliminating blur and stutter. We can also see that the technology industry in general agrees. The vast majority of today’s 4K/Ultra HD TVs operate at 60fps, this is because the TV and entertainment industry regard 60fps to be the ideal frame rate for a smooth, crisp viewing experience. If we look at PC and console gaming, again 60fps is considered the ideal frame rate for smooth gameplay.

Welcome to the next generation of vlogging

As discussed, Infinix ZERO 30 5G puts you in the lead role with a front-facing 50MP camera capable of shooting Ultra High Definition 4K video at a stunning 60 frames-per-second. The primary motivation behind these innovations is to give users the chance to evolve beyond selfies and become the next-generation of avid video bloggers, or vloggers.

As well as giving the users the ability to capture every moment of life in incredible detail and clarity, young cinematic maestros can also take advantage of several unique video shooting modes that place them in the director’s chair. Engage Movie Filter mode to create 2.35:1 ratio video content for a more authentic cinematic look, or use Dual View to capture the action from both sides of the camera with simultaneous front and rear video recording. Dual Micro-slit Flash allows you to film the moment in all light conditions. PDAF (Phase Detection AutoFocus) ensures sharp, stunning high-quality content every time whether you’re taking a selfie or recording a video.

Let’s not forget too that Infinix ZERO 30 5G boasts a 108MP rear camera that delivers stunningly sharp, crisp photos in low light thanks to a 1/1.67” sensor and a glass lens that captures 10% more light than standard lenses.  It combines OIS and EIS technologies to ensure stable image capture for both photography and video. Triple lossless zoom allows users to enjoy incredible detail from a distance, while a 120° wide lens helps users capture the world as they see it. Did we also mention that the ZERO 30 5G rear camera also supports 4K/60fps video recording?

The media reacts to ZERO 30 5G

After testing the new Infinix ZERO 30 5G reviewers at TechSpurt had this to say:”Vloggers will be delighted because you can actually record 4K Ultra HD footage with the selfie camera at 60 frames per second which is pretty rare outside of more expensive Flagship phones.”

“What it truly thrives at is camera performance, the ability to record 4K 60FPS selfie video which is something you barely see on Flagship devices let alone mid-range devices. There’s an ultra steady video mode option when recording with the selfie cam which is awesome for those action vloggers .” Said TechNick, a renowned technology influencer on Youtube.

The future looks more vibrant in 4K

From the modest beginnings of smartphone cameras to the present day, where capturing life’s moments in stunning 4K resolution is a reality, Infinix has embarked on a journey to push the boundaries of what’s possible, and elevate the user experience to new heights. This transformative journey not only revolutionizes the way we communicate and create content, but also ensures that our cherished memories remain vibrant and vivid.

  • Why You Should Try BetKing’s FootballGO: The Ultimate Betting Experience

Why You Should Try BetKing’s FootballGO: The Ultimate Betting Experience

Online sports betting, for all its popularity, still has some limitations. Take, for example, sports like Football, Basketball, and Tennis, which are not available 24/7. There are periods every year where the presence of the human factor necessitates breaks for athletes to avoid burnout/injuries.

Similarly, virtual betting gaming products that operate 24/7 often miss out on the advantages offered by online sports betting markets, such as Free Bets and impressive acca bonuses (like BetKing’s remarkable 300% acca bonus).

What’s essential in this scenario is a product capable of bridging the gap between these two distinct forms of betting, allowing bettors to enjoy the best of both worlds and truly have it all.

Introducing FootballGO, BetKing’s flawless fusion of virtual and online sports betting.

    What is FootballGO?

FootballGO is BetKing’s latest innovation, meticulously crafted to ensure that in the absence of live football matches, you can still bet on virtual versions of your favourite leagues like the English Premier League, French Ligue One, German Bundesliga, Italian Serie A and the Spanish LaLiga

While it shares resemblances with the Virtual Leagues such as operating a Random Number Generator system (RNG), FootballGO also has the best betting offers and sportsbook features that punters have come to enjoy with BetKing.

What does this mean? FootballGO allows you to enjoy the benefits of virtual betting (24/7 gameplay, a random simulator) as well as those of online sports betting (BetKing’s 300% acca bonus, 25,000 in Free Bets and much more.

How to play FootballGO with BetKing

On mobile, select “FootballGO” from the drop-down menu and on desktop, select the “FootballGO” tab from the list of options on the left-hand side of the screen. 2. Within the chosen league you intend to bet on—let’s take GO Premier League as an example—click on your preferred match and make your bet selections. Following the selection of your desired bets, you can then place your chosen amount as a stake and await the simulation to show you whether your picks will be profitable or not.

    3. And finally, it’s important to remember that the more selections you have on your betslip, the higher your acca bonus will be.

  • Navigating Money Issues as an Adult: The Hack

Navigating Money Issues as an Adult: The Hack

Growing up, adults gave us false hope about perks that come with being older. From finally getting two pieces of meat on your plate of food to wearing what you really want and staying out late without too much shalaye, were they really telling the truth or did adulthood just decide to plan a coup on all of us?

From what I’ve seen, navigating life as a grownup can be pretty complex. A lot of us are working jobs we don’t particularly like, or paying bills we are not even convinced we should be paying. Emphasis on the bills because that’s your number one opp as an adult…billings! It’s always a struggle trying to navigate the ones that pop out of the blue, such as units on your electricity meter that got exhausted, teeth filling that came as an emergency after a scheduled checkup with the dentist, or data exhaustion. Can we get an actual break?

Don’t get me wrong, adulthood can be exciting, but the cost of this excitement choke! For real, I always wonder if finance and fun can co-exist. One day, you’re with your friends on a night out, eating really good food or vibing to Asake, and the next morning you’re receiving debit alerts that make you question your life choices. Worst of all is going through these without a support system like friends, family, or even a sugar daddy, I’m joking o. Luckily for me, I found a true buddy. A digital bank that comes through and keeps me in check when adulthood feels like the ghetto. gomoney is that bank.

With my gomoney app, I budget properly by categorizing my bills, save like a pro and track the life out of my expenses. Because let’s face it, life is full of surprises, and I don’t like surprises that leave me broke or affect my mental health. To avoid them, I create a realistic list of what I want versus what I need, and I have a certain amount of my salary that goes into my savings every month. To avoid SAPA overall, I also track expenses at the end of every week to make sure I’m not living my best life carelessly with an account that ends up red. That won’t look good at all.

Basically, living and spending intentionally while you flex as a young adult is key. You need some form of structure that holds you accountable with funds, and my accountability partner is the gomoney app.  So, as you handle the complexities of being an adult, make smart choices and remember, we gather dey! There are a million of us walking this path, and together, we can make adulthood fun.

  • Why You Should Read The First Season of PiggyVest’s “Grown Ups”

Why You Should Read The First Season of PiggyVest’s “Grown Ups”

    Written by Rayo Ailara

Nothing defines the feeling of transitioning into adulthood quite like graduation day. Even as you celebrate with family and friends, you can’t ignore the thrilling and frightening reality that this day marks your first true step into the real world. The desire to do things for yourself, to take charge becomes strong. You want to make big decisions, you want to make meaningful plans, you want to take control.

PiggyVest’s first comic series, Grown Ups does a solid job of capturing that feeling with its first episode, successfully setting the stage for a relatable and entertaining first season. It’s a coming-of-age series that follows four young Nigerians who are fresh out of university and trying to figure life out. Produced by Nigeria’s leading savings and investment platform, it’s no surprise that Grown Ups focuses an extra eye on their different paths to financial stability.

    Meet The Characters

Nonye. Brilliant, kind, and hardworking, she is a born hustler with an unmatchable drive to succeed. She is the friend everyone needs in their corner.

Uwem. The smart but impulsive one. Uwem has the ability to sell ideas, but his ideas aren’t always great. His dreams are large and he is willing to go to any length to achieve them.

Marvin. The life of the party. Enjoyment is always guaranteed whenever he’s around. However, with a politician father and a high-achieving sister, Marvin feels he has to constantly try to prove himself.

Jerry. The independent, self-reliant and protective one. He is always willing to put the needs of others before his own. Sometimes, Jerry’s ego gets in the way of his relationship with others.

Why should you read PiggyVest’s Grown Ups?

    Interesting visual appeal

Grown Ups has a fascinating visual style — and it gets even better as the story progresses. Drawn by the talented Israel Obasola, the illustrations breathe life into the characters and their surroundings, making every issue a delight to read.

    Universal themes and life lessons

The comic subtly educates as it entertains, making it an excellent resource for those seeking financial guidance and personal growth in their own lives. If you are looking for stories connected to real issues young adults worry about today, Grown Ups is a good place to start.

    [ad]

    Rich storytelling

In Grown Ups, every major character is shaped by their relationships with other characters, and there are wide-ranging consequences for each action. This interconnectedness, a credit to Agnes Ekanem’s thoughtful writing, lends the comic a surprising amount of narrative density and emotional weight. It also teaches an important lesson: personal growth is hardly a solitary journey.

Consider Nonye. Her tense relationship with her father contrasts sharply with the warmth she shares with her mother. Meanwhile, Marvin’s sweet but tense relationship with his sister demonstrates the power (and complexity) of sibling relationships. These relationships power Grown Ups from issue to issue.

    Relatable characters

The main characters in Grown Ups are deeply relatable for the average young person. Nonye, Jerry, Uwem and Marvin are everyday people dealing with everyday struggles. Each character reflects the experiences of countless young adults striving to find their place in the world.

In each issue, you will discover pieces of yourself and your story in these characters. You may even draw motivation from their wins and losses. Whether you’re an Uwem, chasing your dreams with all the grace of a bull in a china shop, or a Jerry, being the ultimate “superhero,” Grown Ups is the comic that will have you saying, “Yep, that’s SO me!”

If you haven’t started reading the comic, you can check out the first issue here. (Find all the issues here.)

And after you’re done,  you can find out which Grown Ups character you are with this quiz and then watch the creators and fans discuss season 1.

  • DJ Cuppy’s UN Address: A Blueprint for Youth-Driven Change

DJ Cuppy’s UN Address: A Blueprint for Youth-Driven Change

“Remember, peace begins with us!” – DJ Cuppy

In the heart of the United Nations, amidst the grandeur of global diplomacy, a young and dynamic voice echoed with a powerful message. DJ Cuppy, renowned international DJ, philanthropist, and education advocate, delivered a speech that reverberated through the halls of the UN Headquarters in New York. Her message was clear and profound: the youth have the power to drive change, and that power lies within each one of us.

In her address at the United Nations International Day of Peace Youth Observance, DJ Cuppy served as a beacon of hope, inspiring young minds to become architects of peace and champions of the Sustainable Development Goals (#GlobalGoals). Let’s dissect her speech and explore why it stands as a blueprint for youth-driven change.

DJ Cuppy at the United Nations in New York

DJ Cuppy began her speech by acknowledging the achievements of everyone present at the event. She celebrated their presence as an achievement in itself. This subtle recognition highlighted a powerful truth: every individual can make a difference, and their presence at such a significant event signifies their commitment to that belief.

“Being here today means that you are taking action, and being here means that there is something unique and special about each and every one of you that indicates that you can make the world a better place; you can actually be a changemaker, and that is pretty epic.”

In these words, DJ Cuppy crystallized the essence of youth-driven change. It starts with recognizing that each action, no matter how small, contributes to a larger purpose. Youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are leaders today, capable of initiating transformative actions.

DJ Cuppy’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of education. As a fellow student, she understands the profound impact education can have on an individual’s life. Her dedication to education is evident in her philanthropic endeavour, the Cuppy Foundation, which focuses on providing educational opportunities to thousands of Nigerian children and African students.

“I value education so much that at 30, I have three university degrees, one of them actually, perhaps the most difficult, being from New York University (NYU) right here in this city. And let’s just say I might have completed my thesis backstage at Coachella. It seems I have mastered the art of multitasking, but education is everything, it has paved the way for me to develop and grow my confidence.”

DJ Cuppy’s words resonate with young minds around the world who strive for knowledge and a better future. Her journey exemplifies that education is not just about acquiring academic qualifications but developing the discipline and skill sets to navigate the challenges of real life.

One of the most inspiring aspects of DJ Cuppy’s speech was her call to discover one’s unique gifts and talents and leverage them for positive change. She shared her personal journey, from local dreams to international vision, and emphasized the role of education in expanding her horizons.

“You know I was a young Nigerian girl with local dreams, but education has allowed me to become a woman with an international vision. And it’s not just about the academia, it’s actually about developing the discipline and the skillsets to deal with real life, because let’s be honest, life can be tough and can be quite unpeaceful.”

This message is a blueprint for youth-driven change. It encourages young people to explore their passions, interests, and talents and identify how they can contribute to making the world a better place. DJ Cuppy’s journey from local dreams to global impact demonstrates that anyone can create meaningful change by embracing their unique gifts.

In DJ Cuppy’s UN address, we find a blueprint for youth-driven change that comprises three essential elements:

    1. Belief in Individual Action: Recognize that every action counts and that you have the power to make a positive impact.

    2. Education as Empowerment: Value education not just for academic achievement but for the personal growth and skills it offers to address real-life challenges.

    3. Leverage Your Unique Gifts: Discover your passions and talents, and use them to contribute to peace, global goals, and positive change.

DJ Cuppy’s speech at the United Nations International Day of Peace Youth Observance transcends the boundaries of age, culture, and geography. It serves as a guiding light for young minds worldwide, reminding them that they are not just the leaders of tomorrow but the architects of today’s change. With belief, education, and the discovery of one’s unique contribution, youth can indeed drive a better, more peaceful world.

So, as we reflect on DJ Cuppy’s words, let us also ask ourselves: What is our unique gift, and how can we use it to inspire youth-driven change in our communities and beyond? Remember, peace begins with us!

BudxUncovered: Uyo the latest to bear witness, as Budweiser looks for Naija’s Next Music Superstar

On Sunday, September 3, aspiring music talent, Niieedo, emerged the latest BudxUncovered winner at Pyramid Lounge, as Budweiser continues its search for the next big thing in Nigerian music. He beat out other upcoming acts like Apete, Derry Black, Lixlaw, Lord Dami and Marshall Muze, and became the fourth winner overall from the Regional Stages. He will advance to the Grand Finale in Lagos on September 23. Following his announcement, Teni Makanaki shut down the show with an unforgettable performance, and even gifted a fan ₦1million, capping the night in style.

The Uyo event came a week after the Regional Stage in Asaba, Delta was lit up by BNXN FKA Buju, at D’Echo Exclusive. BNXN’s performance thrilled the audience on a night when aspiring superstar Dreay Picasso came out on top against five others — Ayomide Ade, Santorini, Spectre, Yoyo Ovi, and Zaya — and noted his win was the ‘perfect birthday gift’. He’ll face off against Niieedo and the winners from Enugu (Smart Asante) & Port Harcourt (Calian) in the Grand Finale.

Smart Asante from the Enugu Regionals should provide stiff competition for the others, as his performance got everyone in the venue off their feet, screaming his name and singing along to his music. Meanwhile, Calian showed off his vocal range in Port Harcourt to the enjoyment of the crowd, and the Grand Finale is shaping up to be a showstopper – even with two Regional Stages in Calabar and Lagos yet to happen.

BudxUncovered is the platform launched by international beer brand, Budweiser, aimed at giving Nigeria upcoming talent a Stage to showcase their talent, and a chance to perform live in Las Vegas, USA. Thousands of aspiring Nigerian musicians participated but only 36 will be shortlisted for the Regional Stages, from where six will be decided for the Grand Finale, and one will emerge to take the Global Stage in Vegas.

The Budweiser BudxUncovered campaign launched in July, calling Nigerian upcoming talent to take the Stage but entries have now closed as the Regional Stages reaches its conclusion.
