    On the 31st of March 2022, Guinness Nigeria kicked off its foremost bartender competition, World Class, in major cities across Nigeria including Lagos, Port-Harcourt, and Abuja. After a rigorous selection process, and a three-day cocktail week, the competition officially came to an end, and Victor Obanya emerged the winner of World Class 2022 at the grand finale held on the 10th of June.  

    This third edition of the most talked about bartending competition was an enthralling experience amped by cocktail tasting, savory gourmet, and networking. The cocktail week had guests treated to an array of cocktails from the four regional finalists. Each cocktail was inspired by participating brands. Ketel One vodka led day one, The Singleton controlled day two, and Johnnie Walker, day three. Guests gathered at the poolside bar, The Deck, Victoria Island, to enjoy the experience. 

    On day four, Diageo staff and members of the media gathered at Arabesque restaurant in Victoria Island for a closed session to determine the winner at the national level who would eventually go on to represent Nigeria in Sydney, Australia later on in the year. After a rigorous screening session, Victor Obanya eventually emerged as the winner.

    Following a successful rollout of its first localised marketing campaign, Prime Video hosts Nigeria’s biggest stars and its consumers to an immersive brand experience where they were introduced to the platform, the titles, and what the fully loaded Prime Video experience in Nigeria looks like.

    The star-studded brand experience was well attended by A-list celebrities including Sola Sobowale, Ramsey Nouah, Rita Dominic, Richard Mofe Damijo, M.I Abaga, Funke Akindele, Adunni Ade, and Femi Adebayo, amongst others who graced the black carpet.

    The brand experience kicked off on the black carpet with celebrities donning their best interpretations of the dress code for the evening, “Blue Tie” while yielding to the paparazzi, and interacting with hosts Amanda Dara and Chuey Chu.

    Guests were then led to the cocktail area where the multisensory experience began. They were introduced to the immersive themed pods inspired by the diverse genres available on Prime Video such as Drama, Romance, Action, Adventure, Comedy, and more. The A-listers enjoyed cocktails inspired by Prime Video titles such as The Summer I Turned Pretty, Reacher, and The Blood Covenant while they engaged with the pods.

    Darey Art-Alade, popular musician and entertainment entrepreneur, opened the evening with virtual assistant technology, Alexa serving as his co-host. The evening’s entertainment featured a standout performance by Prime Voices, who sang covers of some of Nigeria’s biggest hits, and a vibrant dance performance.

    Prime Video titles inspired the six-course fine dining experience.  Courses included ‘The 12hour Tozo Battlefield’ inspired by The Terminal List, ‘The Arsenal’ inspired by All or Nothing: Arsenal, ‘What Do Women Want In Harlem’ inspired by Harlem, ‘Butcher’ inspired by The Boys, ‘Warrior Supper’ inspired by King of Thieves and ‘Cheese and Booze’ inspired by The Marvelous Ms. Maisel.

    To close the night, the legendary Asa gave an electrifying live performance, featuring classics Bibanke, Jailer, and hits from her new album Good Times, and Show me Off.

    The highlight of the anniversary of the company was its maiden awards ceremony as members of staff who had excelled over the past year were rewarded in the midst of guests.

    In attendance at the epic night of activities were captains of industry, political leaders, clients and friends of the investment company.

    Today we explore the journey of eight girls into technology through the help of the EveryGirl programme, to get a glimpse of their experiences and provide leverage for girls contemplating this path.


    EveryGirl is the debut programme of the KSH Foundation, designed holistically for young women entrepreneurs between the ages of 15-19 with interest in technology and tech-related fields and prepping them for a career in tech and the world. KSH Foundation is a non-profit organisation that seeks to leverage technology and entrepreneurship and its role in early human development. From desiring generic careers like medicine, law, nursing and now pivoting into tech-enabled solutions, these young women shared with us their experiences with technology and how beneficial the EveryGirl programme has been for them.

    Aisha Ahmad, 17, Programming

    I desired to be a pilot; I loved their outfits and adventures in different cities. My first encountered with tech was in SS1, a teacher had asked us to create a program at the time and I had no idea how to go about it. Consequently, I was fascinated. From the access tech afforded; online courses to job opportunities, the potential for business growth, and shopping which can be done anywhere in the world. The EveryGirl programme transformed me from timid to confident, improved my self-esteem, and provided an opportunity to meet and network with other like-minded girls.

    I wanted to be a medical doctor. I was exposed to tech very early (JSS 1) through basic technology.     Like most young girls, I dreamed of being a medical doctor. However, my fascination with codes, instructions and computers changed everything. I found it intriguing how a designed output differed from code sets. A friend introduced me to web development, and although I found it difficult initially, eventually, I got the hang of it through an event organized by FemCode Africa. This changed my dream. Tech allows me to solve problems and also gives me the freedom to write codes with a desired output in mind. The highlight of the EveryGirl programme for me was that it taught me to be confident, improved my self-esteem, and taught me to use my voice. It also opened my eyes to business systems and helped kick-started my ideas.

    As a child, I was fascinated by lawyers. I enjoyed seeing them solve problems for people. I encountered tech through the Abocoders Academy class, after which I remained passionate about tech. I love the ever-evolving tech industry, with no boundaries and limits yet improving our daily lives. I’m particularly intrigued by the problem-solving ability of tech. The EveryGirl programme virtual classes were enlightening and provided a head start for me in building my career. It provided me with real-life visualization of my ideas and their potential.

    When I was much younger, I wanted to be a nurse. I first encountered tech through the digital literacy programme by Abocoder.     MTN Holds Its First-Ever Quiz Competition About Drug Abuse

    In collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the MTN Foundation sponsored the first edition of its Anti Substance Abuse Programme (ASAP) Quiz Competition for secondary school students in Nigeria. 

    The quiz competition is part of MTN Foundation’s efforts to raise awareness about drug misuse and addiction amongst Nigerian youths. Its purpose is to reduce first-time drug use and casual substance abuse among secondary school students across the country.

    Twelve schools were selected for the first stage of the quiz competition which happened on Tuesday, June 7th 2022 . Ten of those schools participated and three schools emerged as finalists. These three schools were Funtaj International School, Abuja, Intelligence Quotient Academy, Abuja and Government Secondary School (GSS) Ilorin.

    On Tuesday 14th June 2022, the three finalists competed for the top spot while answering interesting questions about drug abuse. Funtaj International School Gudu, Abuja, emerged as the winner of the quiz competition. Representatives of the school: Ramat Sakman, Oluwatoyinsola Adeyemi, and Ataba Shehu each received a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8 and learning support materials from MTN Foundation.

    International Quotient Academy, Garki Abuja was the first runner-up, represented by Raheemah Abdulmalik, Fadil Ibrahim, and Khadeejah Kamil Sani. Each of them received a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, as well as school supplies.

    

    As 2nd runner-up, each representative of Government Secondary School, Ilorin won a Samsung Galaxy Tab A6. The school was represented by Umar Muhammed Sultan, Abdulazeez Abiola Ahmad and Adesina Yusuf. 

    The two-hour quiz competition was moderated by Dr Ngozi Madubuike and Chinyere Kalu, with the judges Farida Tukur and Odoemelam Chigbu compiling results.

    Shadrach Haruna, secretary of NDLEA, was present at the competition, and he advised students to take advantage of the programme and establish activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.

    Executive Secretary of the MTN Foundation and a speaker at the competition, Odunayo Sanya, emphasised the importance of drug usage prevention. She said: “The unique thing about all of you participating in the quiz is that you have all become ASAP ambassadors and we expect that you will take the ASAP message back to your classrooms, homes and communities. TECNO is about to sign its first female ambassador, as the brand has in the last few days dropped a series of teaser posts, with the caption ‘Double-T’ and ‘WAIT’ boldly inscribed on the posts, while also suggesting a female personality with the alphabet ‘S’ in her name.  The Silhouette of this female personality has gone everyone permutating and guessing who she is. Fans have trooped to the comment section suggesting a barrage of names from Tems to Ayra Starr to Tiwa Savage, Simi and others, most of them having either an ‘S’, a ‘T’ or both in their names.

    The guesses and rumors however suggest on thing for sure, TECNO is about to sign a big celebrity name in the entertainment industry, one that’s sure to put fans of both brand and ambassador in so much excitement and frenzy. Actress, Music Artiste, or Famous Socialite? Well, we’ll get to find out eventually.

    TECNO has been on a streak this Year, and we’re excited much and ready for it! No date has yet been given for the announcement though, but we expect it much sooner than later, so fingers crossed!

    Mr Macaroni, Miss Techy, Lasisi Elenu, Kie Kie, Aproko Doctor, Zeelicious Foods, ShankComics, Lush Hair, Rodney, Pamilerin, Enioluwa, James Brown, Mark Angel, Tunde Onakoya, Amazing Klef and Akin Faminu have all emerged as winners at the second edition of Trendupp Awards – Nigeria’s first-ever awards for influencers and content creators, which held on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at The Monarch Event Centre, Lagos, Nigeria.

    The event was hosted by the multi-talented influencer, content creator and TV host Bukunmi Adeaga Ilorifondly known as Kie Kie. This year’s edition was aimed at recognizing and applauding the outstanding work of influencers, content creators, brands and organisations in Nigeria for their immense contribution to the social media space and encouraging these audacious individuals and organizations.

    All sixteen winners across each category were not only presented with their gold statuettes but also received cash prizes of $1000 each, while the winner of the Emerging Force category (the only voting category), ShankComics received a cash prize of $1,500 all courtesy of the event’s headline sponsor Chipper Cash App, one of the world’s leading financial service providers, as the brand’s support to the craft of these leading influencers and content creators in Nigeria.

    The most coveted award of the night, the “Force of Influence” was clinched by Mr Macaroni making him the influencer with the highest influence in the Nigerian social media space.
