  • Afrobeats Star Tonye Taps Neza On Vibrant Comeback, “Mr Jegede”

Afrobeats Star Tonye Taps Neza On Vibrant Comeback, “Mr Jegede”

Afrobeats rising songbird Tonye Garrick has stepped with a vibrant new tune dubbed, “Mr Jegede”. For all the right reasons, the song, tapping Rwandan chanteuse Neza, is a breath of fresh air in Nigeria’s nascent music scene.

“Neza and I started our journey when I reached out to her in 2020 to collaborate. Since then we have become best friends and a team. I’ve worked with other people but she and I just have an amazing synergy,” she tells Zikoko Pop, brimming with smiles. Her music is a coastal ride through her experiences, especially her Bridgerton-esque love memoirs like “Mr Jegede”. The song mirrors the lives of two women entangled with an insincere man.

Neza, whose emotive voice adds a layer of vulnerability to the track, adds, “‘Mr. Jegede’ is a song that will resonate with anyone who has ever been in a situation where they questioned someone’s intentions. It’s about the power of self-love and knowing your worth.”

The duo also announced that they are working on their first collaborative album, as Tonye highlighted that, “Neza and I are currently working on our EP as well as our individual projects.  Our focus right now is Us as a DUO and it’s been so amazing sharing this journey with her.”

This amazing synergy captures the importance of intra-African collaborations in the music industry. Tonye is a Nigerian singer whose 2010 a capella ‘What About Us” shot her to the limelight. In 2013, she made a full transition from corporate business to music, shortly after her debut single, ‘Insane (Wèrè Nìyẹn),” dropped the year before. Her marriage-themed bop, “Ari Belema”, also received a nomination at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Neza is a Rwandan-Canadian singer who signed to MC Galaxy’s MCG Empire, in 2017, the same year she bagged the award for the Most Promising African Artist at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).

  • Nigerian Female Innovators Recognised by Aurora Tech Award Lead the Conversation at Lagos Startup Week

Nigerian Female Innovators Recognised by Aurora Tech Award Lead the Conversation at Lagos Startup Week

The gender gap in the African tech ecosystem manifests in various forms, including leadership representation, funding disparities, and pay gaps. To combat this gender bias, Lagos Startup Week has been dedicated to fostering a community for African female innovators over the past nine years, providing them with opportunities to grow, learn, and connect in the tech space.

One significant initiative is the inclusion of a track focused on showcasing trailblazing female founders who are redefining success in the tech ecosystem. “Women Who Launch” celebrates inspiring women who, against all odds, have achieved incredible feats while paving the way for future generations. Lagos Startup Week is committed to changing the gender ratio at all of our events and empowering women through networking opportunities and mentorship programs.

This year’s focus is on enlightening attendees to the essentials of becoming limitless in business while remaining relevant in the constantly evolving startup ecosystem. Speakers at this year’s event include:

    • Somachi Chris-Asoluka (CEO, Tony Elumelu Foundation) –  Fireside Chat: Supporting Founders of the Future
    • Mope Abudu (Managing Partner, AfriGloCal VC): Aurora Tech Award –  Female Founded, Female Funded
    • Amaka Okechukwu Opara (Founding Partner, Women’s Enterprise Acceleration Vehicle) –  Aurora Tech Award: Female Founded, Female Funded
    • Olapeju Umah (Founder & CEO, MyFoodAngels) –  Aurora Tech Award: Female Founded, Female Funded
    • Olusubomi Hassan (NucleusIS Africa) –  Aurora Tech Award: Female Founded, Female Funded
    • Eniola Edun (Co-founder, Gamr) – Aurora Tech Award: Female Founded, Female Funded
    • Ifeoma Nwobu (Co-Founder & COO, Sendstack) – Aurora Tech Award: Female Founded, Female Funded
    • Jumoke Dada (Founder & CEO, Taeillo) – Aurora Tech Award: Female Founded, Female Funded

These women are at the forefront of driving change and have championed women-focused funds, fostered inclusive work environments, and advocated for policies that empower women to thrive in tech. They will share their insights, experiences, and actionable strategies to help women break barriers and achieve their full potential in the tech industry, across two days of the event – Thursday and Friday.

Past events have featured notable speakers such as Tosin Faniro-Dada, Surabhi Nimkar, Ifeoma Uddoh, Bilha Ndirangu, Kendra Nnachi, Yoanna Pepper Chikezie, Ketura Ovio, Oare Ehiemua, and Ife Durosinmi-Etti, covering topics on building more inclusive organizations where women can thrive and achieve their full potential.

This year, Women Who Launch is sponsored by the Aurora Tech Award, an annual global prize for women founders of tech startups powered by inDrive. The Aurora Tech Award is dedicated to breaking down barriers and promoting equality in tech entrepreneurship.

Nadeen Hossam, Partnerships Manager, EMEA at Aurora Tech Award, said, ‘We are thrilled to partner with Lagos Startup Week 2024 to expand our outreach and empower women founders across Africa. Over the past year, we have received more than 650 applications from 90 countries spanning the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, CIS, and Asia. Last year’s winner, Folake Owodunni from Nigeria, exemplifies the incredible talent and potential within Nigeria’s vibrant tech scene. We firmly believe in the power and potential of the entire African region.

The Aurora Tech Award is steadfast in its commitment to empowering tech women founders worldwide by providing them with invaluable resources, global media and publicity, mentorship, and access to a global network of like-minded peers, investors, and mentors. Our goal is to become the leading technology award for women entrepreneurs globally continuing to address the global gender gap in tech entrepreneurship and foster a more inclusive industry.”

According to Isioma Utomi, Lead Organiser of the Women Who Launch summit, “The African startup ecosystem has grown in leaps and bounds in the last decade, but this growth hardly reflects where the female-led startups are concerned. The H1 report card by Africa: The Big Deal, and the limited allocations made to female-led startups, underscores the challenges around female founders funding in the ecosystem.”

Reiterating Utomi’s call for female founders support, Olumide Olayinka, Co-founder, Prime Startups, the governing corporate company driving Lagos Startup Week in the last nine years said that the firm’s approach to female participation in the ecosystem has been very intentional and strategic.

“Limitless, the theme for this year strongly resonates with women. We have seen this in the way that they have broken through barriers, taken a seat at every table across the globe, built and scaled their businesses with limited access to funding and support. Yet, they still keep at it. This is why women’s participation is at the core of Lagos Startup Week.”

Olayinka stated that in 2023, Lagos Startup Week realized 45% female participation, and there are plans to increase this number in the ninth edition.

“Last year, we had over 4500 females register and attend Lagos Startup Week. This year, we have seen even more interest from females through their registration and we are positive that we will surpass our record of female participants. We are intentional about leading this year’s event with women, including them in panels other than the ‘Women Who Launch’ track. There are so many stories to be told about these women shaping new narratives in tech, and we are excited that our audience will get to hear it all in a few days from now.”

Data shows that organisations which have women in leadership and on boards are more successful and show better financial returns. So this is a great time to invest in women in the tech space.

It’s important to continue to drive an inclusive startup ecosystem where women are not only represented, but also take on key leadership roles as founders and funders.”

The agenda for LWS 2024 includes inspiring keynote sessions, engaging panels, workshops, and exciting speed networking opportunities! Afterwards, enjoy networking with like-minded individuals over drinks.

Whether you are an aspiring tech entrepreneur, a seasoned professional, or someone passionate about gender equality in tech, this track promises to provide valuable perspectives and inspire you to contribute to an inclusive and supportive tech ecosystem. Come prepared to share the room with world-class women in your organization and circle of influence to help us empower more African female founders and possibly funders.

  • Surprise Proposal, Legendary Guest, and Double Performances on Nigerian Idol Season 9

Surprise Proposal, Legendary Guest, and Double Performances on Nigerian Idol Season 9

Last Sunday’s Nigerian Idol was incredible. With a legendary guest judge, double performances, a surprise proposal, and a shocking goodbye, Nigerian Idol gave it all.

    MI Abaga brings the heat!

Renowned rapper MI Abaga joined the judges’ panel, adding his iconic Mr. Incredible energy to the judge’s corner as the contestants upped the stake, giving us two performances each. A soulful R&B number, and Naija Gbedu.

    The journey ends for Maio.

In the show’s usual fashion, you know that once IK gets serious and requests that the lights go dim, it is time for a contestant to go home, and sadly, it was the end of the road for Maio as he amassed the lowest number of votes.

    Naija Gbedu takes centre stage.

The show kicked off properly, with the remaining four contestants showcasing their favourite Naija Gbedu tracks. Chima took the stage first, serenading the audience with Wizkid and Tems’ hit “Essence.” Lammy took us on a trip down memory lane with a performance of the timeless love song “Olufunmi” by Stylplus. Mira Clear kept the vibes flowing with a smooth performance of Fave’s infectious tune, “Baby Riddim,” and Chioma closed out the segment with a show-stopping performance of Chike’s “Hard to Find,” leaving everyone breathless.

    Love takes the spotlight.

While the contestants prepped for their next round, host IK surprised everyone by bringing audience member Joseph on stage to perform. However As his girlfriend, Rose, joined him on stage for supposed moral support, Joseph stole the spotlight. He dropped down on one knee, pouring his heart out to Rose in a surprise proposal. And yes, she said yes!

    The R&B Round

Contestants returned for the second round, performing their preferred R&B number. Chima, riding on his impressive performance streak, gave an impressive performance of Chaka Khan’s powerful ballad “Through the Fire,” earning high praise from the judges. Lammy poured his soul into John Legend’s “Ordinary People.” Channelling her inner diva, Mira Claire delivered a show-stopping performance of Beyoncé’s “Broken-Hearted Girl.” According to Omawumi, Chioma maintained her steeze and composure with her performance of Rhianna’s “Man Down.”.

The brand leveraged this event as an opportunity to affirm its consumers in Nigeria of its commitment to the country and dedication to continuous customer satisfaction. It was also an avenue to introduce two new product ranges.

The event which brought the brand’s stakeholders together, including local exclusive product distributors, legal partners, International and local brand representatives, female and male content creators, influencers, retailers, and media, was themed, Dr Teal’s Wellness Experience, and held at EbonyLife place, Victoria Island on Friday, June 21, 2024.

Guests of the brand were treated to interesting conversations about wellness, delicious canapes, meals, and drinks during food breaks, live product demonstrations, and a product unveiling of the newly introduced Dr Teal’s Prebiotic Lemon Balm Range and Avocado Ceramide Range.

Kicking off the evening with an interesting panel session featuring popular creators – Ify Okoye, Ayoyinka Abolarin, and holistic wellness expert Damilola Adedeji, with Nicole Chikwe as the host; the audience’s favorite moms and millennial content creators discussed the creators’ lives and the effect of trends/algorithm, navigating real life versus social media, and most importantly, discussed how Dr Teal’s help to enhance the quality of their sleep as creators and moms.

The second-panel session featured GenZ female creators – Kamsi, Angel Obasi ‘Style Connoisseur’, and Nonye Udeogu ‘This Thing Called Fashion’. They were also joined by Damilola Adedeji and event host, Nicole Chikwe. Vivienne Odofin-Daniel, Strategic Manager for Dr Teal’s Nigeria thanked guests and mentioned that the brand had now rebranded and now spots a new look, with a subtle but clear difference to help consumers avoid the consumption of counterfeited products.

“Dr Teal’s has rebranded with a new look, and you’ll be seeing the new packaging all around. There’s a subtle difference but it’s very clear. Another major way through which we are helping our audience differentiate between counterfeit and original Dr Teal’s products is our new line of distribution. We are distributing exclusively with Perfect Trust Cosmetics and Jumia, and we are partnering with certain key stores to ensure that you are getting the original products and you get your money’s worth.”

Also speaking about the new product range from the brand, Vivienne expressed her excitement at the unveiling of the new Dr Teal’s Prebiotic Lemon Balm Range and Avocado Ceramide Range.

“I am super excited about the two products that we are launching and announcing officially today. We have the Prebiotic Lemon Balm Range which is so refreshing, so beautiful, and great for the skin. It’s such a beautiful blend of citrus that has never been before. Another one that blows my mind is the Ceramide and Avocado oil range because it is so mindful of a brand to merge ceramide and such an amazing superfood fruit like Avocado oil, and having it in not just oil but lotion, wash, and salt. It is such an all-round amazing experience for Dr Teal’s and its consumers.”

Vivienne completed her statement by assuring consumers that with these new products, they would be spending longer hours washing and soaking in and practicing better self-care routines in their bathroom.

The brand’s need to relaunch and introduce new product lines comes after the brand struggles with the devastating effect of counterfeiting in the Nigerian market. In the past months, Dr Teal’s has joined forces with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Nigerian Police Force to combat the counterfeiting menace that plagues the consumer goods industry.

This move from Dr Teal’s is a strong statement to the country and its citizens, an affirmation of the brand’s commitment to growing with the country and its people and investing in their wellness and safety by making only quality standard products remain available to the brand’s consumers.

Dr Teal’s lovers can now shop directly from the brand’s authorized distributors –  at any of the Perfect Trust Cosmetics outlets, on Dr Teal’s store on Jumia, or from key retail stores like Prince Ebeano supermarket and H Medix.

    • How Guinness Conquered Football in Nigeria for Over a Decade

How Guinness Conquered Football in Nigeria for Over a Decade

For over a decade, Guinness has dedicatedly fueled the passion for football in Nigeria, carefully curating unforgettable football experiences.

The nation’s number one premium beer brand, Guinness, has unified people through its power of goodness and communion and has been a catalyst behind some of the best football moments we have seen.

What Guinness saw was not just a game, but a beating heart and a chance to unite this diverse nation under the banner of the beautiful game. In 2013, the brand, in its usual commitment to being bold took on a record-breaking feat and unveiled the world’s largest Nigerian jersey, a powerful symbol of unwavering support for the Super Eagles. This wasn’t just a jersey; it was a battle cry.

Guinness, with the understanding that support goes beyond a giant piece of cloth, then launched the “Fly with the Eagles” campaign, fulfilling the dreams of 200 Super-fans with an all-expenses-paid trip to cheer on the Nigerian team in South Africa. The AFCON 2013 trophy was hoisted high with unforgettable memories of the roar of the crowd, shared hope, and electrifying energy of victory.

The love for football, particularly the Premier League, burns bright in Nigeria. Guinness recognized this and became the official broadcast partner with Multichoice/SuperSport. Every electrifying goal, every nail-biting save, was beamed directly into homes across the nation, but the story doesn’t end there.

“Every Minute Made of More” consumer promotions and celebratory ad was another campaign that kept excitement bubbling with the Superfans throughout the 2015 football season.

Guinness not only focuses on the big leagues but also believes in nurturing local talent. In 2017, Thierry Henry, a football icon walked onto Nigerian soil. His presence which ignited a fire in young players’ hearts, is a testament to Guinness’ commitment to growing the beautiful game from the roots up. The following year (in 2018), Guinness partnered with Rio Ferdinand, another football legend celebrating the unwavering spirit of Nigerian fans with a country-wide tour – a spirit truly “Made of More.”

Guinness wasn’t satisfied with just watching the game; they wanted fans to experience it and this led to the start of Guinness Night Football, a multi-sensory extravaganza of nighttime five-a-side matches across Uganda, Kenya, Cameroon, and of course, Nigeria. This wasn’t just any tournament; it was a celebration of passion, featuring teams battling it out under the floodlights, culminating in a final night in Lagos with celebrities like Rio Ferdinand and others not just cheering but joining in the five aside games with fans. The night wasn’t complete without the electrifying performances of top African artists, blending music and football for a memorable experience that resonated deep within the soul.

    • Global Citizen Festival Campaign to Support Nonprofit Organisations Across New York’s Five Boroughs

Global Citizen Festival Campaign to Support Nonprofit Organisations Across New York’s Five Boroughs

Global Citizen, the world’s leading international advocacy organisation on a mission to end extreme poverty, today announced the lineup of the 2024 Global Citizen Festival, set to take place on Central Park’s Great Lawn on September 28. Post Malone, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll and Rauw Alejandro will headline this year’s festival, with additional performers to be announced in the coming weeks. Global Citizen Ambassador Hugh Jackman will host the event, which will also feature appearances by Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, Founder, the Jane Goodall Institute & UN Messenger of Peace, and Global Citizen Festival Curator, Chris Martin of Coldplay.

The hunger crisis continues to grow, infectious diseases are still spreading, debt is on the rise, and last year was the hottest on record. Meanwhile, governments everywhere are reducing their contributions to foreign aid, with more than half of G7 countries having proposed cuts this year. Despite the emerging gap between what the world needs and what seems politically possible, the plight of the world’s most vulnerable communities is more urgent than ever. This is a critical year for the global community to support frontline organisations, invest in lifesaving solutions, and act today, to save tomorrow.

The 2024 Global Citizen Festival takes aim at these major issues perpetuating extreme poverty around the world. Global Citizen Festival is presented by Citi and Cisco. Major Partners are Bridgewater Associates, Delta Air Lines, Motsepe Foundation, P&G, Verizon and World Wide Technology; Production Partner Live Nation; Exclusive US Audio Partner iHeartMedia; and Location Partner New York City Parks. Take Action on the Global Citizen App to Earn Free Global Citizen Festival Tickets. Tickets to the Global Citizen Festival are free and can be earned by taking action on the Global Citizen app or at globalcitizenfestival.com to demand change from governments and private sector leaders. This year, global citizens everywhere will unite to call for urgent action to:

      Defeat Poverty

Global Citizen is calling on the G7 countries – Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, the UK and the US – to increase their support for anti-poverty programs worldwide, including increasing their contributions by at least 25 percent to the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s fund dedicated to defeating poverty in the world’s 75 lowest-income countries. Achieving an IDA replenishment of at least $100 billion will support the social and economic development of more than 1.5 billion people, including providing 250 million people with access to electricity by 2030, addressing malnutrition for over 40 million women and children per year, and driving domestic investment in healthcare, agriculture and education.

Global Citizen’s campaigning for the IDA replenishment will include hosting the Economic Development Assembly just days after the festival on October 9-10 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in partnership with Bridgewater Associates, Harith General Partners, and the Government of Côte d’Ivoire. Additionally, Japan, the UK, Australia, UAE, Qatar, Canada, Norway and Korea need to reallocate their remaining Special Drawing Rights – a special type of currency from the IMF – to Multilateral Development Banks, which will mobilise $80 billion for the green transition and pandemic preparedness for countries in need.

      Defend the Planet

Global Citizen is calling for businesses, philanthropic foundations and governments to protect and restore the Amazon rainforest by investing $1 billion, including supporting indigenous communities, who are guardians of 80 percent of the world’s biodiversity. The Amazon is one of the world’s largest carbon sinks, storing 150 billion tons of carbon – equivalent to 15-20 years of global greenhouse gas emissions – making it vital to slowing climate change. The EU and G20 countries should also set specific timelines by which they will phase out coal, oil and gas, in line with the historic decision made at COP last year, to ensure a swift and equitable green transition and avoid more human suffering due to climate change.

      Demand Equity

Global Citizen is calling for equitable access to nutritious food, stronger health systems, and quality education. Governments such as Australia, Canada, European Commission, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the UK and the US must commit at least $5 billion collectively to organisations working to provide equitable access to meet peoples’ basic needs. Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, must also be fully funded through 2030, significantly to help reach the more than 14 million “zero-dose” children who have never received a life-saving vaccine.

      [ad]

Organizations Global Citizen is campaigning for this year include CGIAR, Education Cannot Wait, Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative, Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, The International Fund for Agricultural Development, International Labor Organization, United Nations Population Fund Supply Partnership, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the World Health Organization, and for domestic resource mobilisation for women, health, food, and education. Global Citizen is also calling for a world where everyone’s human rights are respected and protected, including the rights of advocates and activists worldwide, particularly defenders risking their lives to take action on extreme poverty and protect the planet.

As part of the Global Citizen Festival and campaign, Global Citizen is proud to support and partner with a variety of nonprofit organisations that are aligned in mission and cause across New York’s five boroughs, including: Black Surfing Rockaway, The Bowery Mission, Breaking Ground, Citymeals on Wheels, Covenant House International, Elevate New York, Expecting Relief, Girl Be Heard, Good Shepherd Services, Outright International, South Asian Youth Action (SAYA), South Bronx Unite, Win (Women in Need), and YMCA of Greater New York – Bed Stuy. Global Citizen will once again partner with Everland to make a positive contribution to nature and cover the estimated carbon emissions of the festival by supporting community-centred forest conservation.

“It’s been a few years since I was last on the Global Citizen Festival stage in Paris, and I’m excited to join forces with Global Citizen once again in Central Park this September to drive as much action as we can to make the world a better place,” said Doja Cat. “We all have a part we can play to help end extreme poverty and stand up for equity. I’m looking forward to being part of this major evening of positive change.”

“As a longtime supporter of Global Citizen and its mission, I am thrilled to be returning as host of the Global Citizen Festival this fall,” said Hugh Jackman, Global Citizen Ambassador. “For over a decade, Global Citizen has driven life-saving impact for nearly 1.3 billion people around the world, and we’ll gather once again on September 28 to help end extreme poverty, defend the planet, and demand equity. I can’t wait to see you all on Central Park’s Great Lawn to collectively call for change on behalf of the world’s most vulnerable communities.”

“The Amazon rainforest is movement, spirituality, and vital energy. It plays an essential role in combating the climate emergency, and restoring the Amazon and protecting its people is our responsibility,” said Janja Lula da Silva, First Lady of Brazil. “Fighting to overcome poverty among the most vulnerable populations living there, who are protecting the forest, must also be a priority, and we welcome Global Citizen’s immense support. This campaign is important for us to mobilise different actors and care for this fundamental ecosystem for our collective future. And Brazil is ready to lead by example.”

Global Citizen Festival is presented by Citi and Cisco. Major Partners are Bridgewater Associates, Delta Air Lines, Motsepe Foundation, P&G, Verizon and World Wide Technology; Production Partner Live Nation; Exclusive US Audio Partner iHeartMedia; and Location Partner New York City Parks. Additional quotes and spokespeople

“For countries like Zambia, Global Citizen’s support of the World Bank’s IDA replenishment could not have come at a more critical time,” said Hakainde Hichilema, President of Zambia. “As our worst agricultural season in over 40 years takes hold, our nation and our neighbours are facing dire food shortages and severe instability in our power supply. The participation of the world’s wealthy nations in this replenishment is not just generosity — it is life or death for millions experiencing the worst impacts of climate change.”

“There’s undoubtedly a divide between what the world needs to end extreme poverty and what currently feels possible. Our mission has never been more critical,” said Hugh Evans, Co-Founder & CEO, Global Citizen. “Together, we must hold our governments to account, and demand that businesses and foundations use their power for good. We must call for ambitious action to defeat poverty and defend the planet — there are 700 million people depending on it.”

“Earlier this year, Bridgewater Associates announced our collaboration with Global Citizen in support of the World Bank’s IDA21 replenishment efforts as we believe that everyone has a role to play in addressing global development. The actions we can take to help the most underserved and vulnerable will impact all of us,” said Nir Bar Dea, CEO, Bridgewater Associates. “Bridgewater is sharing our world-class research by laying out the importance and anticipated impact of development across Africa with global decision-makers in an effort to help the World Bank reach its replenishment goals and help lift 250 million people out of energy poverty by 2030. I know that Bridgewater and all global citizens are ready to meet the moment with urgency.”

“In 2023, Gavi celebrated a monumental achievement, immunising over 1 billion children,” said Dr Sania Nishtar, CEO, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. “With continued investment and prioritisation of immunisation, we can make a significant contribution towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals, strike a powerful blow against malaria, protect millions of young women and girls from HPV and respond to climate-driven diseases like dengue. If all global citizens take action now, we can turn this 2030 vision into reality.”

“Global Citizens, women and girls must be safe, both online and in real life,” said Dr. Natalia Kanem, Executive Director, UNFPA. “Join the #bodyright movement with UNFPA to help end technology facilitated gender-based violence — and use your power to defend everyone’s bodily autonomy and sexual and reproductive rights and choices! Let’s make the protection of sexual and reproductive rights a top priority for the decision-makers who hold the budget purse strings.”

“Education cannot wait for nearly a quarter of a billion children in crisis-affected countries,” said Yasmine Sherif, Executive Director, Education Cannot Wait. “Be a Global Citizen and let your voice echo and your actions change the world for the better.”

“Protecting and restoring the Amazon is critical for the future of global biodiversity and the climate,” said Rodrigo Medeiros, Senior Brazil Lead, Re:wild. “No other global initiative will contribute more to slowing and reversing the destruction of nature. It’s time to take action with Global Citizen’s campaign and secure the resources needed to protect the Amazon and support indigenous peoples and local communities, the forest’s true ancestral guardians.”

“Extreme weather, fires, lethal heat, droughts and flooding are threatening lives and livelihoods around the planet,” said Tzeporah Berman, Chair and Founder, Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative. “It is critical that countries cooperate to stop the expansion of oil, gas and coal projects and manage an equitable phase out of fossil fuels. We are thrilled to have Global Citizen supporting the growing movement calling for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.”

Driving the Future of Finance: Quidax Represents on Global Stages

It’s the season of events and opportunities among leaders in the financial sector. These visionaries are engaging with stakeholders and sharing with the public their various initiatives to make payments easier and safer.

In the past few weeks, there have been a couple of events, such as the Paris Blockchain Week, Money 20/20 in Amsterdam and the IFX Expo, which is currently happening in Cyprus.

Over the years, these events have provided an avenue for financial enthusiasts to learn from leading brands in different industries, including payments, blockchain, and technology. Similarly, they give new entrants an opportunity to sell their products and services on a global stage.

Quidax, Africa’s leading indigenous crypto exchange, has taken the bull by the horn this year by participating in these events and further shining the spotlight on the great things that are happening in the Nigerian finance space, especially in the crypto industry.

While in Paris, the exchange’s CEO, Buchi Okoro, sat on a panel with other global industry leaders to discuss “Next Gen Payments: The Blockchain Revolution.” In his speech, he explained the dynamics of the African market, the gaps, and what Quidax is doing to increase crypto adoption rate and boost ease of use.

Speaking opportunities are not the only advantage to attending global conferences and events. Exhibitions are the meat of such opportunities. Through exhibitions, brands and businesses can showcase their products and services, while directly engaging with potential customers, partners, and even investors.

Having a Nigerian crypto exchange attending and actively exhibiting its offerings at all of these events is a positive indication of the massive growth in the country’s blockchain and financial ecosystem. Quidax has indeed done well and is doing well by putting Africa on the map and leading the global recognition of the continent’s crypto exchanges.

Quidax is currently offering an opportunity for users who have never traded on the platform to win an iPhone, a PS5, and some free coins when they trade with at least $200 this month. To qualify, sign up on Quidax here and trade with $200 or more. You can learn more about the competition here.

    • Viveeyan Thinks Music and Dance Found Her; I Think Her Voice Announces Her

Viveeyan Thinks Music and Dance Found Her; I Think Her Voice Announces Her

I knew about my coming conversation with Viveeyan weeks before we spoke, so I did my research before our call. What is her personality like? How was her journey to the final of “The Voice”? What does her new EP, “Slice” sound like?

Immediately I got into the music, an unmistakable realisation struck me — I was listening to someone heavily inspired by Beyoncé. The beauty of Viveeyan’s voice took me to a place where I was certain I knew what I was hearing.

So I had to start the interview with my curiosity:

Has anyone ever mentioned that you sound like Beyoncé?

Oh Lord, I get this all the time. Sometimes, people think I’m trying to copy [her]. You know, there’s a story behind why I sound the way I do.

      Tell me

My dad noticed I could sing when I was eight. He noticed from my singing around the house, Me, I already knew my voice was good.

My dad was an artsy person. He played professional football and because of football, he went through secondary school on scholarship. He could draw, write — everything. He wanted me to keep going to school but didn’t want me to have the same experience he did where people told his parents only degenerates played football for a living.

So he sought out a balance for me. He took me to a voice coach for consultation. And when visitors were around, our living room turned to a stage and I sang for them as my parents proudly watched.

I can’t quite remember how often I interacted with the voice coach, but it was just a few times. I remember that he heard me sing once and told me, “Your voice would go so well with Destiny’s Child.” And guess who was Destiny’s Child lead singer?

      Beyoncé.

Before that time, I wanted to have a Celine Dion-type tiny voice, but once the coach mentioned Beyoncé, I got to work. I didn’t just listen to and love Beyoncé, I studied her like a textbook. My dad would buy me Destiny’s Child cassettes and I would listen to Beyoncé’s solos and practise over and again until I got what she was doing.

Now that I’m older, I realise it’s not strange for people to be influenced by other musicians. I love Owl City’s poetry and Taylor Swift’s ability to tell stories. It all works together.

Curious (again) about why, as a kid, she put so much time and effort into perfecting her craft, I ask:

Did you always want to be a musician?

Music always found its wayto me. In secondary school, I would sing in class to the delight of my desk partner who would go and call people from other classes to come and listen to me sing. I vividly remember my wooden desk sounding drum-like, so all that was needed to make music was available. I would sing and people would be amazed.

Music also found me in uni. I was singing in my room one day,  and a girl adjacent to mine ran in to see where the sound was coming from. She couldn’t stop telling people about me and encouraging me to sing.

I even got gigs on campus because people heard my voice. For the first one, someone heard me sing and suggested I make a jingle for someone running for a political post on campus. I wrote and sang, and he won. Then I became popular for making catchy songs for people who ran for political posts. It was through one of my jingles I met my mentor, Mr. Gbade Adetisola, who heard my voice and said he had to train me. He taught me more about music, voice control, and more.

Another person who heard me casually singing insisted I had to go for “The Voice”. So yeah, it’s not like I decided to be a musician. I’m not even the best at self-promoting —  I’ve just always loved singing, and music has always found me.

I disagree. It doesn’t sound like music has been finding her. It sounds like people can’t resist her when she sings. From her father to her seatmate to the girl in her uni hostel, the people who wanted her to sing for their campaigns, Mr Gbade, the person who insisted she had to go for “The Voice”,  thousands of Nigerians who kept voting for her till she got to the final, and even me. I tell her this. She awws and smiles and nods in agreement.

      Time for my next curiosity.

      Tell me about “The Voice”

It was 2016. I’d just graduated from uni and was contemplating if I wanted to go to law school when the person who heard me sing insisted I go for the show. My plan was to go for the show and do law school after. I got accepted to “The Voice” in a group of about 100 people and we kicked off.

That show was a huge platform for me. That’s where people still remember me from today. The privilege of being coached by seasoned musicians, the joy of proceeding round after round, wondering who was voting for me and why, the thrill of working with a live band, the pressure with competing against talented musicians; everything was overwhelming and beautiful. I can still feel it as I speak.

It was painful making it to the final eight and not winning But I was also incredibly proud. I didn’t think I could go that far competing against full-time musicians. The whole experience made me realise how much I loved music. It helped me understand and define myself as a singer, and a performer. It showed me I could perform on any platform at any level. And it made me decide to do music professionally. That was when I began to self-promote by posting on social media. And that was when I made my first song, “The Bull’s Eye“.

Oh, and I didn’t go to law school anymore. I got a job in copywriting at an advertising agency — where I still wrote and produced jingles for brands. Even now that I don’t live in Nigeria anymore, I still do ads and jingles

I really like the way she speaks about her love for music and her craft.

What has making music been like since “The Bull’s Eye”?

When I listen to “The Bull’s Eye” these days, I want to scream because it’s like “What was I even doing!?” But I appreciate that I made it. It showed I was still discovering myself as an artist and was not afraid to experiment.

My first ever manager was Amara Agwu. She was instrumental in getting me seen after “The Voice”.  When she got the opportunity to manage Ayra Starr, someone else had to step in and continue managing me. It had to be someone I could trust because I had built such a wonderful relationship with Amara. So recommended Nathalie Wemambu and Nathalie has lived true to her recommendation. She is pleasant to work with and is really passionate about artist building. I am thankful for both of them in my career

After “The Bull’s Eye”, I made a few more singles before I released my first body of work, “Slice” a few months ago.

“Slice” basically says, “It’s been a while. Here’s a glimpse of what I can do.” On the EP, I show my strengths as a singer, songwriter and storyteller. I also speak about the story of my adulthood and what I imagine is the story of many people who would listen to the project. That’s why it starts with “Minimum Wage” because it’s like “Hey, now, I’m an adult. I had these big goals for my life but now, where’s the money to achieve them?”

And it ends with “Feel Good”, a song about self-acceptance. “How do I accept myself and navigate society as the most authentic version of myself?” which is also a question people probably have.

Along the way, there’s stuff about love and stuff to make you dance but those are my major themes.

I’m working on a few more singles that will be released this year before my next body of work.

I ask her what she thinks my favourite two songs from the five-song project are. She says “You Don’t Love Me” and “Feel Good”.

      She’s right.

Transforming Nigeria: The Platform Returns with a Special Edition This Democracy Day

Lately, being a Nigerian tends to feel like a rollercoaster. From the skyrocketing cost of goods, to the exchange rate hitting over N1,500 to a dollar, to electricity grids collapsing every Eke Market Day, you must ask, is there ever going to be a way out? Right now, nothing is more important to the average Nigerian than building economic stability. No doubt, Nigerians have significant work to do in improving their economic prosperity. But the question is, how far can you go on this journey alone?

This Democracy Day, The Platform, Nigeria’s foremost thought-leadership conference returns with an edition to discuss the connection between democracy and the free market economy. This sounds like stuff for economists, but in simple terms, Democracy means people have the power to choose their leaders and make decisions together, while a free market economy means businesses can operate freely with little government interference, allowing competition and consumer choice.

Come June 12th, The Platform will hold its 36th edition in Lagos. This is a globally-anticipated event where you’ll get to learn from accomplished political and business leaders. This edition is tagged: Democracy and the Free Market Economy. It will be an avenue of idea exchange for forward-thinking Nigerians.

    • Jägermeister and Santa Cruz Skateboards Launch Limited Edition Decks and Apparel

Jägermeister and Santa Cruz Skateboards Launch Limited Edition Decks and Apparel

Jägermeister, in partnership with the iconic US label Santa Cruz, has launched a limited three-piece skateboard and fashion capsule collection. At the heart of the collaboration is the re-issue of the 1990s-designed cult skateboard which Jeff Kendall, CEO of Santa Cruz and legendary American skateboarder, designed out of love for Jägermeister — the “Kendall Deck.”

Originally one of Santa Cruz Skateboards’ most successful designs, the nostalgic retro design of the Kendall Deck board features Jägermeister’s symbolic deer — a fusion of two brands synonymous with authenticity, creative expressions, and non-conformity to norms.

“Freedom, authenticity, tradition – and a dash of rebellion. Those are the values that unite our brands and skateboarding,” says Jeff Kendall, CEO Santa Cruz Skateboards.

Speaking about the collaboration, Sven Schindler, Head of Global Brand & Digital Marketing at Mast-Jägermeister SE, said, “With Jeff Kendall, we have the consummate skating professional by our side. He’s a long-time fan of the Jägermeister brand, and the board he designed on a whim over 30 years ago is something we can now revive and reissue together.”

“With these limited-edition pieces, we want to inspire both fashion and skate enthusiasts alike. The limited pieces collection will be available starting from June 20, 2024, in selected Jägermeister online shops and directly at Santa Cruz,” he added.

Following the launch of the limited-edition pieces, Jägermeister has extended its campaign to skateboarding communities in other countries and regions. In Nigeria, the brand has hinted at a partnership to celebrate the youthful defiance and authenticity of the skateboarding community through branded merchandise and a skateboarding competition where top local skaters will showcase their skills. Winners of the competition stand a chance to win the exclusive skateboard and fashion pieces amongst other prizes.

The Jägermeister x Santa Cruz collaboration is a testament to the power of blending tradition with modernity, creating pieces that not only honour the past but also inspire future generations of skaters and fashion enthusiasts. This partnership underscores both brands’ commitment to pushing boundaries and fostering a spirit of bold creativity and authenticity.

    • A Guide to Celebrating African Culture and Talent the Onga Way

A Guide to Celebrating African Culture and Talent the Onga Way

Unless you live under a rock, you’ll know there’s never been a better time to carry African culture on your head than in big 2024. Listen, Africans are taking over on a global scale and you can either be a part of this moving train or… actually, there’s no “or”. The only way forward is to join in.

Onga, a leading seasoning brand, understands this, which is why they’ve been dedicated to promoting cultural appreciation throughout the continent. As the headline sponsor of the recently concluded Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) Cultural Day, this is how they celebrated and solidified their commitment to celebrating African culture and talent.

A hearty celebration of African cuisine

Imagine saying you want to appreciate African culture and you choose to leave out the complete richness that is African cuisine. Onga delivered great taste and aroma through a one-of-a-kind culinary experience given to guests at the AMVCA Cultural Day.

Meals like Onga’s signature smoky party jollof rice, abula, miyan kuka and kunu, were served to guests. And there were other African delicacies like banku from Ghana, pilau and braised tozo from Kenya and beef matoke from Rwanda.

The “This is Africa” decor at The Onga Village

Raffia mats, thatched huts, bamboo furniture, kerosene lamps, local drums and raffia fans were hanging on walls to celebrate African heritage.

Safe to say the traditional ambiance of The Onga Village gave meaning to the celebration of African culture.

      [ad]

An Onga Moment with a praise singer

How do you get guests to get their groove on in a way that they wouldn’t forget soon? Create an Onga Moment and pull in an indigenous performing artiste like Isegun Johnson, who’ll make heads swell with his praise-singing numbers.

The multi-talented actress, Bisola Aiyeola, was official anchor, and notable names in the entertainment industry like Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Odunlade Adekola, Kunle Remi, Lateef Adedimeji, Saidi Balogun, all graced the event dressed in vibrant traditional African attire that stood them out as proud ambassadors of their respective cultures.

Don’t forget to appreciate the talents

There’s no culture to celebrate in the first place if there are no talents who go above and beyond to uphold these cherished African traditions and values in their work. Onga understands and appreciates this dedication to African artistry, which is why they sponsored the AMVCA Best Female Lead Actress category which went to Kehinde Bankole.

According to Oladapo Oshuntoye, Culinary Category Manager at Promasidor, Onga’s dedication goes beyond the AMVCA Cultural Day festivities. The seasoning brand has a deep appreciation for the artistry and commitment that women bring to their craft.

“Their creativity and hard work serve as inspirations to us all. Sponsoring this award is our way of paying tribute to their outstanding achievements and recognizing their invaluable role in shaping the narrative of African women.”

      Games, but make it traditional

People love to laugh and chill over board games and ludo. And thanks to Onga, they got to do this the traditional way at the AMVCA Cultural Day.

      What festivalgoers are saying

“Organise this type of event more often”

“I’m mostly not a social person and was sceptical of how much I would enjoy the event if I attended but I’m really happy I did, it was so much fun and I’m grateful I got to enjoy all that for free thanks to ZIKOKO and Onebank.”

“I don’t know if this is the first edition, but it did not feel like it. The event was really good and well organised! I had a great time. From the organisation to the artiste line-up; I would give it a solid 9/10. That DJ was fire!!!!!! She’s who she thinks she is.”

“Best outdoor/ park party I have ever attended. Onebank team did a great job.”

In a world where division and discord often dominate the headlines, Strings Attached served as a powerful reminder of the importance of unity and togetherness in multiple ways. As the sun set on Muri Okunola Park and the final notes of music faded into the night led by N.A.T.E’s final hyping, the spirit of Strings Attached lingered on. Memories were made, connections were forged and hearts were lifted.

    • Andrew Spira Advocates for Global Universal Basic Income Models Inspired by Kenyan Study Success

Andrew Spira Advocates for Global Universal Basic Income Models Inspired by Kenyan Study Success

Andrew Spira, a vocal proponent of Universal Basic Income (UBI), is utilizing the groundbreaking findings from Kenya’s most extensive UBI study to advocate for its widespread adoption globally.

This groundbreaking research, initiated in 2017 by GiveDirectly and Innovations for Poverty Action and several sponsors, covers 23,000 participants in 195 villages, making it the most ambitious UBI study to date.

The preliminary outcomes of this 12-year longitudinal study reveal substantial improvements in participants’ financial resilience and overall well-being.

Households benefiting from UBI reported significant upticks in food consumption and a noticeable decrease in depression rates. These positive changes underscore the potential of UBI to serve as a robust financial safety net for vulnerable populations.

Andrew Spira, a steadfast proponent of UBI, asserts that the Kenyan study’s results confirm the efficacy of UBI in fostering stable and prosperous communities.

These findings are not merely results; they represent a compelling argument for UBI as a foundational economic strategy worldwide,” Spira remarked at a recent policy forum. He views UBI as a crucial investment in human dignity and the untapped potential of individuals across socioeconomic boundaries.

A key highlight of the study is the positive correlation between long-term UBI and entrepreneurial activity. Recipients of continuous UBI payments ventured into new businesses, with a 34.5% rise in the number of enterprises and notable increases in their revenues.

This surge in entrepreneurship demonstrates UBI’s role in stimulating economic innovation and providing individuals with the financial confidence to pursue higher-risk, higher-return activities.

The research also sheds light on the importance of informal financial mechanisms, such as rotating savings and credit associations (ROSCAs), which saw an 11.3% increase in participation among UBI recipients. These tools play a crucial role in helping individuals manage their finances better, allowing them to make larger lump-sum investments in their futures.

As interest in UBI gains momentum worldwide, Andrew Spira continues to lead the charge for its adoption, using the Kenyan experiment’s successes to advocate for policy changes incorporating UBI into global economic strategies.

His efforts are pivotal in shaping the debate on how societies can provide sustainable support to their populations amidst the challenges of automation and economic unpredictability.

Through his advocacy, Spira aims to transform UBI from a radical idea into a global central component of social welfare systems, ensuring all citizens have the economic security necessary to pursue a fulfilling life.

    • Knorr Eativist Taymesan on Staying Healthy While Being a Media Mogul

Knorr Eativist Taymesan on Staying Healthy While Being a Media Mogul

Heads up, foodies and health enthusiasts! Today, we’re hanging out with the one and only Taymesan, media superstar and Knorr Eativist extraordinaire. Get ready for a fun chat about all things food, life, and laughter. Prepare to be inspired by Taymesan’s wit, wisdom, and practical tips for making healthy choices delicious and sustainable. Buckle up, grab your snacks, and let’s dig in!

You’ve come a long way in your career; what has kept you going?

Taymesan: I have always had big dreams and lofty ideas of what my life would be; even though I was not sure how I would achieve any of it, there’s something in me that keeps egging me on. I’m sure that something is Jesus. I am very aware that He has been with me every step of the way, and as long as He leads me, there will be so much more to achieve! Hallelujah!

As someone with a great sense of humour, if you were to create a comical dish inspired by your content, what would it be, and what playful twist would you add?

Taymesan: HMMM! What if we had Jollof bread? You know I love jollof and bread so much. What if we brought them together to form a meal? Hear me out! I know that’s a lot of carbs, but I am willing to put some Efo or vegetable sauce as a side dish. That would be a hit!

Do you have a guilty pleasure? As a Knorr Eativist, how do you put a healthy spin on it to balance the nutritional requirements you need from time to time?

Taymesan: I eat at midnight. That’s when the hunger kicks in. I eat bread, biscuits, meat pies, shawarma, and all the carbs you can think of. Now that I am an Eativist, I pledge to add vegetables to my midnight snack. You know, as an Eativist, you have to keep it healthy. So cheers to Meat pie and broccoli at midnight!

    • Crews were out last Friday; where were you?

Crews were out last Friday; where were you?

Fridays are our favourite day of the week for a reason. We get to unwind, eat good food,  hang out with friends, and have an insanely good time. Speaking of good times, did you make it to Grant’s Whisky Crews Night Out event last Friday? If you didn’t, here are all the excitement and unforgettable moments that unfolded at the Crews Night Out event that happened at The Beach by Gusto:

The night kicked off with good vibes and good music. DJ Jamie Black eased us into the moment with a playlist that clearly spelt “We Outside.” From the Grant’s themed experiential booth to the exotic black carpet, crews could be seen feeding off the energy of the moment and vibing to the tones from the deck. While the music flowed, guests sipped on signature Grant’s cocktails, partook in glow-in-the-dark face painting, and ate delicious meals — making each moment of the Night Out worth it.

DJ loving, DJ Celz and DJ Demi Andre served up the best of Afrobeats, WannixHandi delivered a set that inspired insane dance routines for guests leaving them feeling like they were “Kaffy the Dancer” and MazexMxtreme had us jumping — like we were dancing away our sorrows—  to their Afro-EDM fusion. Talk about relieving yourself from all the stress of the week.

When we thought we had seen and heard it all, Alternate Sounds came up with an insane performance that left us begging for more Crews Night Out action (if wishes were horses, some guests would wish for the night to never end)

Beyond this, the true essence of the night was the celebration of togetherness. Whether arriving with a crew or joining new companions, everyone became part of a collective experience. To top it off, the brand gifted lucky guests with exclusive branded merchandise.

The memories made, the connections forged, and the laughter shared all embody the essence of Grant’s Crew Night campaign — which stems from the liquor brand’s ethos to promote the spirit of togetherness and foster communal spirits through large gatherings and experiences like its last Crews Night Out event or intimate house parties called Crews Night In.

There’s more to come!!! Follow @grantswhisky_ng on social media as well as the hashtags #CrewNightsNG #TogetherWeMakeIt to stay in the loop about the latest updates, so you know where you and your crew will pull up to have a good time.

    • A Woman’s Right to Choose: Ensuring Access to Safe Abortion

A Woman’s Right to Choose: Ensuring Access to Safe Abortion

One year ago, my neighbour saw Elise, her 12-year-old daughter living with a speech impediment, off to boarding school. Boarding school was supposed to be safe for her. Nothing was supposed to go wrong.

When Elise returned home a few months later for the holidays, we noticed something had changed in her. The girl who used to be playful and was friends with everyone kept to herself. The change in demeanour was one thing, but she also didn’t look well. Even though Elise said nothing, her mum suspected something went wrong while in school.

Out of concern, she took Elise to the family hospital for a series of tests. It was supposed to be routine—to confirm nothing was wrong. But the doctor hit her with the worst news she didn’t imagine was possible: Elise was three weeks pregnant.

Following this revelation, the other details started to unravel. While Elise was in school, she was at the mercy of her sports teacher — we’ll call him Mr. X — who abused his position to molest her sexually. None of Elise’s peers or her teachers knew about this. Mr. X made sure of that.

Elise’s heartbroken mother did the next best thing and got Mr. X arrested. But that man is free now because there wasn’t enough evidence to take the case to court.

With nothing else to do, Elise’s mum is torn between letting her adolescent daughter terminate her pregnancy, but there are restrictions on abortion services. Yet, if Elise keeps the pregnancy to term, her health is at serious risk. She’s 12 years old, after all.

Should Elise be given a chance to live as a child without imposing motherhood on her or should she face the consequences of Mr X’s actions?

Spice Up Your Girl Power Game at HERtitude ’24

At our festival for hot babes only, HERtitude, we come together to celebrate all things fabulous about being a woman in Nigeria and beyond, from killer performances to fun activities and empowering discussions.

We’re taking things up a notch with a women’s leadership session in partnership with the Women in Leadership Advancement Network (WILAN) and their MsRepresented campaign. With a panel and dedicated booth, we will address the misrepresentation and underrepresentation of women in leadership positions in Nigeria because, let’s face it, hot babes, it’s time to take our rightful place at the top.

      Hot babes in leadership

What can you expect from this partnership? Get ready to be inspired, empowered and educated by three incredible young female leaders who are absolutely slaying the game — with bat-shit-crazy innovative content creator, Hauwa Lawal, as their moderator.

Dive into the world of art and creativity with Morenike Olusanya (@iamrenike) as she shares her journey to success and spills the tea on what it takes to thrive as a female creative artist and entrepreneur in a male-dominated industry.

Lawyer and public servant, Ayisat Agbaje, will drop some serious knowledge bombs on how to navigate leadership as a young person and how to step into your power as a political leader in Nigeria. So come with note-taking supplies, hot babes.”

We also have Jennie Nwokoye, health-tech innovator and CEO of Clafiya, onboard. From disrupting the healthcare industry to breaking barriers as a female entrepreneur, Jennie will show us how to make our mark and change the game in tech.

      Leadership dress-up time

WILAN will set up a super fun booth at HERtitude, where you can channel your inner girl boss and dress up as iconic female leaders from across the globe. Whether you want to rock Ngozi Okonjo Iweala’s iconic head tie and glasses or channel your inner Beyoncé, there’s a character for every hot babe out there.

Plus, for those who prefer to keep it real, WILAN will be on hand to chat about what “MsRepresented” means to you and how we can work together to change the game for women everywhere. Get ready to level up your leadership game with Zikoko and WILAN.

Meanwhile, HERtitude is still bringing you
