  • Hey Ladies! Whoopi Goldberg Has A New Weed Line For Period Pain!
Women are trying oh. Apart from loosing blood monthly, most of us have to deal with period cramps!
Really terrible ones that can be so bad that some of us actually pass out from the pain  have to be admitted into the hospital.

We’ve tried everything from taking hot drinks to pain killers to visiting the hospital for injections to drinking Yoyo bitters or ogogoro or dry gin.

But now, there’s something else that might just do the trick.

Legendary American actress, Whoopi Goldberg, has a cure for menstrual pain. Medical Marijuana!

The business which is based in San Francisco in the U.S of A is called Whoopi and Maya and is founded by the veteran actress and Maya Elisabeth, the founder of Om Edibles, a company that’s been treating marijuana as a superfood since 2008.

The Whoopi & Maya line will be in four forms.

    • A raw sipping chocolate infused with either CBD* or THC*, which can be mixed in liquids (such as warm milk) or eaten.
    • THC-infused tincture.
    • A THC-infused bath soak described as “profoundly relaxing.”
    • A topical rub.
THC means “tetrahydrocannabinol” and CBD means “cannabidiol”.

Whoopi hopes her products will provide “an alternative for relieving the pain and discomfort associated with menstruation.”

The weed line was inspired by her experience from a lifetime of difficult periods and cannabis literally being the only thing that gave her relief.

According to Whoopi this line will allow women to control the pain and still go about their business.

She says that, “Smoking a joint is fine, but most people can’t smoke a joint and go to work. This, you can put it in your purse. You can put the rub on your lower stomach and lower back at work, and then when you get home you can get in the tub for a soak or make tea, and it allows you to continue to work throughout the day.
The products will be available in U.S from April in select dispensaries.

We can’t wait for this product to be available in Nigeria. If not, it’s online shopping to the rescue!

  • Black Girl Attacks White Guy For Having Dreadlocks!
    Cultural appropriation.
Definition: The use of elements of one culture by members of a different culture (Wikipedia).
White people have been known to do stuff generally associated with Black people.

    Like Kim Kardashian’s cornrows.

    Or Iggy Azalea’s rap style.

Or Rachel Dolezal pretending to be Black.

Cultural appropriation is a problem not just because White people do a Black hairstyle, but because when they do it, it is considered new or trendy. It erases Black people as if they don’t matter.

Black people have always spoken against it. If White people want to borrow some peculiarities from Black culture, they should be willing to embrace everything else.

But this girl took it to another level. She physically came after a White guy at her university, because he had dreadlocks.

In a video that has since gone viral, the girl and her friend are seen confronting the young man. She asked the guy why he had dreads and was appropriating her culture.

As much as she’s standing up for an important issue, she rather went about it the wrong way.

Violence never settles anything. And this is bullying!

Also we have some important questions.

    Do Black people own dreads?

Do Black people not use Filipino, Malaysian, Indian, European and Brazilian hair?

Do they not dye their hair various colours?

    Watch the video.

This topic about cultural appropriation will not end anytime soon. Its history goes back to slavery. But we need to be aware of what is appropriation and what isn’t.

  • Please, What Are These Ugandan Security Officers Searching For?!
It seems like we have it good here in Nigeria when it comes to random body searches.

A Twitter user shared these pictures of Ugandan officers conducting an over-thorough body search, before people could enter the Mandela National Stadium for the match between Uganda Cranes and Burkina Faso.

    https://twitter.com/pyepar/status/714839139926089728

Please what are they searching for?!

And they were doing it with such dedication too.

Are they trying to find something where the sun doesn’t shine!

Check out the lady smiling and people around find nothing wrong with this.

Of course the people of Twitter didn’t keep quiet.

Some wondered why the ladies were being body checked by male officers.

@pyepar smh why are they being frisked by male cops and not female ones?

    — Yummy Mummy (@AishaWanjiku_) March 29, 2016

But it turns out the ladies were actually being frisked by women.

@FauzKhalid @pyepar Lol..if you look closely they’re female soldiers actually. There are 2 females doing the frisking and a dude on the left.

    — Anno™ (@iAnnoGH) March 30, 2016

Some were not okay with it.

@pyepar absolutely not OK!! It’s so wrong!! pic.twitter.com/MCV7eVrZTy

    — Femme actuelle (@zippoglisia) March 29, 2016

    Some found it hilarious.

@pyepar LOL that’s some bomb searching

    — Kwuks (@BaDAsS_DriZzy) March 29, 2016

Some commented on the chick in the second picture.

@pyepar the chick in the second picture has that “I know, it’s lit right?” face on ?

    — Mr.Ranger (@sforsheriff) March 29, 2016

Some commented on how it wouldn’t be acceptable in their country.

@pyepar guys r Uganda women this naive, I don’t think a security guard can do this in Kenya N get away with it

    — Fredrick odwar (@odifred82) March 29, 2016

Some wondered if their fingers were metal detectors.

@pyepar Really, Ugandan police need to upgrade, do they have bomb detectors in their phalanges?

    — Victoria Odipo (@vickyodipo) March 29, 2016

These Ugandan security officers really know how to conduct a thorough body search oh.

  • Anthony Majek’s Paintings Are So Real You’d Think They Were Actually Pictures!
Nigerian artists are showing that they’re not here to play! From Oscar Ukonu to Yagazie Emezi to Laolu Senbanjo, they are repping us big time. And more are joining the list.

    This is Anthony Majekodunmi.

He is a writer and designer. And also the artist behind these beautiful works of art.

They’re all paintings and not actual pictures. How incredible is that?!

    From Rihanna.

    To Morgan Freeman.

    To Adele.

    To this tiger.

We’d love to know how he does his magic.

  • Abike Dabiri Shut Down Someone On Twitter And Nigerians Came For Her!
Abike Dabiri, the Senior Adviser to President Buhari on Foreign Relations and Diaspora, came under fire for making this statement on Twitter.
This is the first tweet that most people saw. Looking at this alone, it’s not surprising that she was attacked. But let’s back track a bit. Was she wrong to say this or is this a case of her statement being taking out of context? Let us go back to the genesis of the whole matter.

Remember the Nigerian woman who became the first African ever to be an Inspector in the New York Police Department?

Funmilayo Obe set a record and made Nigerians proud.

Well, it turns out that Abike Dabiri paid her a courtesy visit while in the U.S.

Dabiri praised Inspector Obe for being worthy of emulation.

She got this reply. A Nigerian said that the country will suffer from brain drain if things continue the way they are.

@abikedabiri @NYPD28Pct In no time, Nigeria will lose her best brains and hands to other country and will be left with nothing! Take note

    — ‘Niyi OGUNKOYA (@niyiogunkoya) March 28, 2016

Dabiri then engaged the young man in a conversation.

    And he answered.

@abikedabiri Ma’am, I am sure you don’t want to persuade them to come home! As @MBuhari has not got solution to the problem at home…

    — ‘Niyi OGUNKOYA (@niyiogunkoya) March 28, 2016

    And it continued.

Then another young man jumped in.

@abikedabiri @niyiogunkoya @MBuhari No stable power, High insecurity, Low wages, poor infrastructures etc what am I coming home for?

    — Onuoha David (@davo2short) March 28, 2016

Before she gave the answer that caused a major tweet-storm!

Looking at it this way, it doesn’t seem that bad.

But most people, without investigating, jumped on her case.

While a few took time to read the thread and found nothing wrong.

Some who followed the thread still saw her statement as wrong, no matter the context.

  • 20 Of Our Favourite Songs From Korean Dramas
Unforgettable original sound tracks (OST) and Korean dramas are practically inseparable. These songs are an essential part of the overall viewing experience, helping us connect with the characters and their emotions. From moving ballads to upbeat tracks, these are our favourite K-drama music.

    1. “Because I’m Stupid” by SS501

This song was basically the anthem for the drama Boys Over Flowers.

    2. “Love Is” by Park Jang Hyun & Park Hyun Gyu

This was Cha Eun-sang and Kim Tan’s song in The Heirs.

    3. “My Destiny” by Lyn

?You are my destinyyyyyy? Who gets vivid flashbacks of the fantastic chemistry between Do Min Joon and Cheon Song Yi whenever this song plays? Beautiful song from You From Another Star.

    4. “Paradise” by T Max

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JkGFS8vgPQ
Everytime we heard this song, it reminded us of Boys Over Flowers and vice versa. As cheesy as it was, we still loved it.

    5. “Touch Love” by Yoon Mi Rae

A beautiful ballad from Master’s Sun OST. So many feelings all packed into a four minute song. It’s just too much to handle!

    6. “Growing Pains” by Cold Cherry

This was Choi Young-do’s song in The Heirs.

    7. “Best Luck” by Chen of EXO

The theme song for It’s Okay, That’s Love, this song will stay with you for a long time.

    8. “Crazy of You” by Hyolin

Another track for the Master’s Sun drama. It’ll definitely give you the feels.

    9. “Moment” by Changmin of 2AM

From the drama It’s Okay, That’s Love. This song will bring a smile to your face.

    11. “Goodbye My Love” by Ailee

From Fated To Love You. Ailee, as usual, delivers exceptionally.

    12. “Suddenly” Kim Bo-kyung

From the drama City Hunter. It was really hard choosing a favourite, because all the tracks are excellent.

    13. “Passionate to Me” by Younha

Recorded for the drama Pinocchio, this song is the perfect backdrop to Lee Jong Suk and Park Shin Hye‘s romance, creating a warm and inspiring atmosphere.

    14. “Back in Time” by Lyn

From Moon Embraces The Sun, this song captures the feeling of young love in the drama.

    15. “Fight the Bad Feeling” by TMax

Another song from Boys Over Flowers. This song makes you want to rip your heart out and is oddly catchy at the same time.

    16. “Nothing” by Just

This is the best song off the Lie to Me OST, because this song belongs only to Ki Joon and Ah Jung. It explains their love story.

    17. “Grey Paper” by Yesung

Contributed by Super Junior’s Yesung to That Winter, the Wind Blows. It portrays the sad love between the characters Jo In Sung and Song Hye Gyo.

    18. “You’re So Beautiful” by Kim Junsu

For the drama Scent of a Woman. Junsu’s magical voice made this song beautiful.

    19. “Because I Miss You” by Jung Yong Hwa

From Heartstings OST, Yong Hwa’s voice was just so amazing.

    20. “That Man” by Hyun Bin

This is the best song from Secret Garden. It has two versions – female and male. And Hyun Bin’s is better.

What are your favourite Korean drama songs?

Or people seeing you as an inspiration to start their locs.

But there are also the not-so-nice aspects, which I’m sure fellow locheads will totally get.

    1. When people call it “dreadlocks”.

    cat says no

Please it’s called locs. There’s nothing dreadful about the hair.

    Pinterest
    Pinterest

Yes I know the title says ‘dreadlocks”. That’s because it’s what Nigerians call locs. I’m here to tell you that it’s incorrect. So please, take note.

    2. Seeing someone with long locs and wishing yours could grow faster.

    But why

    4. Having to go through extra security checks at the airport.

    drugs in locs
    Daily Mail

Probably because they think that drugs get hidden inside the locs. To give them credit, it’s been done before. Doesn’t mean all locheads are like that though.

    5. Some people thinking that you must do drugs.

    Bob Marley

Seriously?! Yeah, Bob Marley smoked weed. That doesn’t mean we all do that though.

    6. Having to hide your locs when you go for job interview.

    Bronze Goddess

    Bummer.

    7. Or getting funny looks when you leave them out.

Sometimes, you don’t get the job.

    8. Meeting your boyfriend’s or girlfriend’s parents for the first time and seeing their reaction to your locs.

    no time

    I’m a good person. I promise.

If you have locs, you’re bound to get questions like this:

    9. Do you wash your hair?

    seriously

    No, I don’t. My locs are self-cleansing.

    10. How do you wash it?

    duh

The same way you wash your hair.

    11. Were you born this way?

    kids-with-locs

Not necessarily. If anybody with kinky hair decides to stop combing their hair, it’ll matt over time.

    12. Are you from Jamaica?

    jamaica

Nope. That’s neither here nor there.

    13. Do you like reggae? You must be a musician.

    musician

Not really. I’m not a musician, but I can sing.

    14. Are you a Rastafarian?

    No woman

    Yah man! Yaga!

    Sigh, not a compulsory criterion.

    15. Are you a footballer?

    Because it’s short?

    17. Being told by relatives: “How do you expect to find husband/wife with this kind hair?”

    hol up

You don’t say. I didn’t know that was a criteria now.

    18. The polite ones ask  “Can I touch your locs”. Other times, you’re not asked. They just go ahead and touch. It happened to Ava Duvernay.

    19. Are you a lesbian?

    lochead girl

Really? Why is it a crime for girls to have short hair?

Getting statements like these on a regular basis:

    20. I like your your hair, but it makes you look rough.

    We don't care

    Nobody asked for your opinion.

    21. I like locs, but I can never do it. I don’t think it’ll fit me.

    Spongebob

    That’s nice to know.

Despite it all, the pros still outweighs the cons, by far and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

  • A Lady’s Reply To Being Told She’s Beautiful Is Giving Us Life!
So this young lady did something that some women will never do. At least, not until they’ve reached a certain level of trust with whoever it is.

An admirer told her she was stunning after seeing her display picture.

What she did next was brave and hilarious at the same time.

She sent the guy a picture of what she looked like without her face beat to the gods.

    https://twitter.com/leahsvnchez/status/712314747467788288
After sharing the photo, she commented “this how I look in real life“.

You can imagine the guys reaction.

  • An NYSC Member Is Changing Lives In Her Own Small Way
As much as some young Nigerians detest the idea of doing the mandatory one year youth service, a lot of those that have done theirs will testify that it was fun — especially the Orientation Camp experience. Corps members are finding various ways to do good and give back to society at their various places of primary assignment (PPA), just like this young lady, Don Draper, who shared her story.

She is currently serving Ohiya autonomous community in Abia state.

She was deployed to work as a secondary school teacher in the locale.

Initially, she didn’t want to serve at her PPA because of the deplorable condition of the school.

She was previously wary to serve in Abia because of the stories she heard about the state, she enjoyed the camp experience, but didn’t like the school.

She quickly settled into the school life after a few months and fell in love with the students.

She then devised a way to help her students excel at their studies and came up with the “Base Word Spelling Challenge “.

After the students prepared intensely for the challenge, the competition took place.

    And it was fierce.

    There were prizes.

They included: a one term scholarship, school bags, books and pens.

Two winners emerged from JS3 and SS3.

Senior secondary student, Uzoma, collects his prize.
Junior secondary student, Chinemerem, receiving his prize.

She’s certainly setting a good example and helping the future generation.

The challenge is now spreading to the rest of the state. Another secondary school will be hosting an edition for students. Her target is to organise the challenge in seven different schools across the state before her passing out parade (POP).
  • What Happens When A Nigerian Man Has To Deal With Homosexuality and Religion?
There are a few things that are still taboo to talk about in Nigeria. Like sex.

Homosexuality is an entirely different ball game.

Now, there a new short film that’s about the issue.

It’s about sexual relationships, same sex ones to be exact.

Titled Hell and High Water, this film deals with homosexuality and religion.

It tells the story of a young pastor who is loved and adored by those around him. But when he has to confront his inner demons, things change. He has to deal with “a truth” that could make or break him psychologically.

But, whatever his choice is, there will still be serious repercussions.

Because life as he knew it is about to change. Hell and High Water explores the reality of sexuality amidst spirituality, exorcism, blackmail and family life.

It is produced by AMVCA winner, Asurf Oluseyi, and written by Habeeb Lawal.

Asurf Oluseyi won the 2016 Africa Magic Viewes Chocie Award for “Best Short Film” for A Day With Death.

It also stars 2016 AMVCA winner for Best Actor, Daniel K. Daniel.

Other actors are Enyinna Nwigwe, Ashionye M. Racca, Tunbosun Aiyedehin, Adedayo Davies and Chika Okeke.

    Watch the trailer below.

We wonder how Nigerians will receive this.

  • Tanzania’s President Magufuli Is At It Again!
John Magufuli keeps giving other African presidents leadership goals. From looking for ways to use taxpayers money for more important things to providing quality health care to free education for children. The man has been known to drive himself.

Now he has done something else. He went to renew his gun license and went through due process.

And Africans are admiring him for it.

Some imagined how the exercise would have been like if it was another president.

@abdikadir2014 @coldtusker In Kenya, this would have been accompanied by political speeches and entertainment by traditional troupes

    — Michael Owuor (@Myqall) March 22, 2016

Some lauded him for setting a good example.

@abdikadir2014 @jadwong #magufuli is just such a law abiding citizen. he is patrotic and a leader africa needs to push forward

    — ossy b (@ossybmusic) March 22, 2016

Some wondered why he needed a gun.

@RobertAlai lol…publicity stunt…does he really need a gun considering He’s the most protected Tanzanian?

    — Roy Senior ⚽ (@Kevchicah) March 21, 2016

    Some compared Tanzania to Kenya.

@RobertAlai that a leader showing example to his people in Kenya you are threatened with the license

    — stephen kikau (@StephenKikau) March 21, 2016

And some wondered about something critical.

@abdikadir2014 ……… Eh….is he putting his Pistol inside his trouser or is there a holster ?

  • Please, Is P-Square Back Together?!
A lot of us were beyond heartbroken when it looked like the music duo had broken up. With all the drama and shade they were throwing at each other, and he said, they said, it certainly looked like they had done enough damage and had gone past the point of no return. In spite of this, fans were doing all they could for them to get back together.

Like this really passionate fan that cried her eyes out.

And this girl who couldn’t read for her exams, thanks to P-Square.

He said, “Psquare live in Rotterdam Netherland Saturday 26th March. Be there or be squared. It’s Gonna rock!@palmundoworld #festival“. We were just looking, because this wasn’t the first time we heard that they had reconciled, only for them to turn around and be like they’re two, not one. They had stretched our hearts way past its elastic capacity.

But then, Paul posted it on his own page three days later!

  • Nigerian Artist Laolu Senbanjo Collaborates With Nike To Take Yoruba Art Global

Laolu Senbanjo is an artist, singer and self-taught guitarist based in the United States.

Born in Ilorin, Kwara state, he is a graduate of the Nigerian Law School and a human rights lawyer.

After several years of investing his time and money creating art and music, he became a full-time artist.

Though it has not been easy or rewarding monetarily, he says it’s his destiny or Ayanmo in the Yoruba language.

He draws a lot of inspiration from his Yoruba heritage and it can be heard in his music.

He enjoys the spontaneity and pleasure that comes with making music.

And seen in his art called ‘Afromysterics’.

Laolu describes this as “the mystery of the African thought pattern“. He believes that traditional indigenous spiritual practices help guide us through different phases of our lives. He sees his art as a way to share and express experiences.

Laolu sees everywhere as his canvas. From shoes…

    To jackets…

    To human bodies.

He’s a passionate activist and most of his works have social justice ideologies woven throughout.

Feminism, women and children are often present and common themes in my work.

He’s also had exhibitions all over the world.

The countries include Nigeria, Germany, France, and South Africa.

And he has a huge following of people that love his artwork.

Now, Laolu is collaborating with Nike, the manufacturers of the popular sports apparel and footwear of the same name.

Hired by Nike as the ‘Master of Air’, he’ll be creating Air Max-inspired art at the Air Max Convention in New York City.

According to Nike, “Laolu draws inspiration from his Yoruba heritage and global travels. At Air Max Con, he’ll be creating art, incorporating his love for Air Max, New York City, and sports.”

We say a very heartfelt congratulations to him!

  • According To Sahara Reporters, That Central Bank Job You Should Have Gotten Is Going To Those That ‘Have Mouth’
Some Nigerians believe that there are no jobs, some believe there are jobs, if you know where to look. But it’s come to light that there are plenty of jobs, but it’s being snatched up by people with “connections”.
Of course there’s the getting of jobs through networking, which is legit. But there are those that aren’t qualified, who still get important jobs because their parents or relatives or family friends are in power. Like the current situation that has come to light.

Sahara Reporters broke the news of Nigerians who were offered important positions at the Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN).

The news site published a list of young people who have influential background and were recently offered appointments by CBN in a covert hiring process.

More than 200 people are said to be on this list!

We know this happens, but this one is on a really large scale. SaharaReporters claims CBN appointed these relatives of various government officials without following due process.

    Wow! Just wow!

That many people?! Nawa for Nigeria.

And we thought the Nigerian government couldn’t surprise us anymore.

This is disappointing, even though it’s not surprising.

This is the second scandal to happen since Godwin Emefiele became the governor of Central Bank.

Before this, CBN was scammed to the tune of 190,000 dollars.

The reactions of Nigerians were varied.

Some made jokes, as Nigerians like to do in these kind of situations.

To some, it’s not only CBN that does this. They just got caught at it.

Some see It as democratic freedom.

Some believe that no Nigerian is innocent. They just do theirs on a smaller scale.

Others believe that the CBN needs to be cleaned up.

  • This Guy Shows That He Is Aware Of How The Female Body Really Works!
Most men have unrealistic expectations of what the female body should look like. It puts pressure on women to find fault in how nature created them and some go to ridiculous lengths just to achieve the unrealistic-looking bodies we see everywhere today.

But, in a series of tweets, this guy shows that he’s more educated than most men and that his mother taught him well!

Women loved his tweets so much that some are offering to date him and give him the world.

@younggwhite look at this educated and respectful man who is aware of how the female body really works. Date me and I’ll give you the world.

    — Mia (@chaneIiman) March 20, 2016

Others want more men to be like him.

@younggwhite damn, how I wish all men were this educated and respectful towards women. tell em!

    — marie (@wasteddream_) March 20, 2016

    Let the lectures begin.

    https://twitter.com/younggwhite/status/711411343706836996

no knock on the balloon women @ all, respects to their bodies but the way natural bodies are perceived is wrong. a they were here first lol

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

the term “saggy” is whack. y’all want double D breasts to sit up on a woman’s neck but nature does not operate like that ?

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

the elasticity of a woman’s skin isn’t made to support all that extra weight. hence the “sag” some scientists even call it a birth adaptat.

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

stretch marks come from a sudden growth/change in weight. the female body usually naturally fattens to prepare for pregnancy after puberty

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

hence why women get stretch marks on their stomach, thighs, upper arm, butt, etc. They are literally nothing but lines ? completely harmless

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

y’all are disgusted by nature taking its course on women but condone them being cut open and having silicon sacs put in them/fat transfers?

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

all in all plastic surgery isn’t wrong because a person can to whatever they want to their body. just checking motives though

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

all the dudes that have so much to say about the female body actually know so little about it and it’s hilarious.

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

let me not even get started on the structure of the vagina which is so heavily misconstrued. I really don’t want to. I may

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

just 1 question. how does a girl having sex with 10 guys make her “loose” but her having sex with 1 guy 100 times bring on the term “tight”

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

I’m talking about the same vagina which naturally snaps right back to normal after having an entire baby come out of it.

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

a woman’s cervix can stretch upwards of 4 inches wide when giving birth, with the tissue in the vaginal canal stretching even wider

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

our dicks are not bulldozers. ? in fact they basically light work to the vagina. unless a woman is out here doing dicks bigger than a baby??

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

there is no way in vaginal hell that there is enough penal variation man to man that will destroy a vagina like you idiots claim. just sayin

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

“bro she was loose as hell like I slid right in” congratulations sir that was a properly lubricated vagina. u somehow turned a woman on

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

“bro she was extremely tight like I could barely move in that jawn” you sir are as much of a failure as you sound.

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

this is from the same peanut gallery that considers a woman’s pain and discomfort during sex as “beating it up” lmfao but y’all carry on

    — J (@younggwhite) March 20, 2016

  • Is Yoruba Nollywood Being Snubbed?
The AMCVA (Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards) 2016 took place a few weeks ago. Nigerian magazine, This Day Style, in their latest issue, published the best-dressed actors and actresses on their front cover.
Then the controversy began. Some people felt that This Day Style was biased for not including Yoruba actors and actresses (a.k.a Yorrywood) on their front cover. By consensus, most people agree that one actress in particular more than qualified to be on it.

She’s Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, the Yoruba movie actress.

Some Nigerians saw it as a snub, because she only acts in Yoruba movies.

    https://twitter.com/_larike/status/711585534519463936?s=09

Or because she’s not posh enough for them.

    https://twitter.com/yew1e/status/711586656843927552?s=09

Mercy is in agreement with her fans and called This Day Style out for it.

She said, “Hey Fam…. so I just came back from church and decided to check IG only for me to see plenty tags on a particular pix posted by @thisdaystyle …..I read pple’s comments asking why Mercy isn’t on the cover and at first I wanted to waka pass, but on a second thought I decided to talk about it, cos it’s been an issue dat has lingered for too long!…….I thought to myself why didn’t Mercy make the cover of @thisdaystyle best dressed list?…. Has @thisdaystyle ever featured a yoruba actor on their cover?………are yoruba movies not part of nollywood? …..is Nollywood not supposed to mean home grown Nigerian movies? …..hmmmmm I am very sure they didn’t coz, they won’t want to STAIN their cover with a ‘RAZZ’ ‘LOCAL’ yoruba actor!….Yes I am razz, Yes I am local and Yes I am a Yoruba actor!…..No I refuse to speak ur almighty English with fake British or American accent!….Because I’ll always remain true to myself!…I am ME ….Proud Benin Woman, Proud Ijesha’s wife and above all proud Nigerian. …And just in case e still dey be una like dream ‘LOCAL TI TAKE OVER’ ….

She wore this beautiful floor-length silver beaded dress by House of Luminee to the awards show.

And you will agree that she killed it! The mother of two was looking hot.

Really, she should have made the cover and now we come to think of it, we are yet to see Yorrywood people on This Day Style’s cover oh.

Yorrywood is still part of Nollywood. They are important too.

It seems like Yorrywood has decided that enough is enough.

Another Nigerian might join the London Assembly!

The London Assembly which is part of the Greater London Authority, scrutinizes the activities of the Mayor of London. The body has the power to hold the Mayor and Mayoral advisers accountable by publicly examining policies and programmes.

Her name is Florence Eshalomi, a resident of South London.

Florence has lived in South London all her life. She is the eldest child from a single-parent family. She’s also the first to attend higher education.

She began handling big responsiblities at a really young age.

She started working at the age of sixteen and takes care of her mother who suffers from sickle cell anaemia. She had to juggle the demands of family responsibilities, education and employment at the same time.

Since joining politics, Florence has held various key positions at different times.

She was elected to Lambeth Council in 2006, 2010 and 2014, representing Brixton Hill ward. She has worked in the public, private and charitable sectors in a number of different campaigning, research and public affairs roles. She has taken a leading role in local and national campaigns to encourage more young people and people from under-represented background to become more active in public life, politics and the arts. She is currently the Public Affairs Manager at the Runnymede Trust,  UK’s leading independent race equality institution.

Now, she’s about to join the London Assembly.

    All the best Florence!

We really hope she gets this position! Update: We previously wrote that Florence Eshalomi might be the first Nigerian to join the London Assembly. She isn’t the first to do so. Kemi Badenoch was the foremost to join the Assembly. Florence might be the first to be elected.
  • When Natural Hair Is Not Allowed In The Work Place

Hair is political. Even Chimamanda agrees.

African hair has undergone a tremendous evolution, from naturally curly or kinky hair to the chemically straightened hair to weaves and weave-ons.

Black people have over centuries, found ways to change the way their natural hair is, just to fit in with society.

Kinky hair was seen as inferior to long wavy hair. Men and women have long began to embrace their God-given textures.

Choosing to buck the norm, they’re all going back to base.

But some workplaces in these modern times still find natural hair unacceptable, as this young Ghanaian-Canadian lady came to find out.

Akua Agyemfra is a 20-year-old Humanities student at York University in Canada.

She got a job as a server at a restaurant in Toronto.

Like most college students, she got a job at to be able to pay the bills.

On her third day of training, she was sent home for wearing her hair in a bun.

According to her, the assistant general manager of the restaurant told her she was not allowed to wear her hair in a bun,  saying it was company policy. The manager said her her hair had to be worn straight down.

The manager said she expected servers to look like they’re going to the club, not coming from one.

Yes. she said that. Please, how does wearing a bun look like one is “coming from a club”? That doesn’t make any sense. Akua showed the manager that her natural hair doesn’t fall straight. But she was still sent home.

Being a non-confrontational person, she left without standing her ground.

She realized when she went home that it was a violation of her rights. Sending her home based on her hair is wrong. Akua said, “Management at Jack Astor’s did NOT specify that I had to wear my hair down every single shift. If they did, I would have NOT taken the job because I know my hair cannot be straight everyday. I had extensions during my interview and my two training shifts. After I took out my braids, my Afro didn’t not comply to the “straight hair” rule. To maintain it and look presentable, I had to put it in a bun.

She has since quit her job at the restaurant. But she didn’t take the situation lying down.

Server told to alter hairAre you black and working in the service industry? Have you been asked to wear your hair differently on the job like Akua Agyemfra? Contact us: tonews@cbc.ca
Posted by CBC Toronto on Thursday, March 10, 2016 Akua sees their dress code as discriminatory. She has shared her story and been interviewed by media outlets and this has led to more awareness about Black people having to alter their hair just to fit in in the work place. She says “I’m not going to compromise my roots and edges because my employer wants me to. My scalp has a right to breathe just as much as the woman standing beside me.”

    You go girl!

But the thing is that this situation happens here in Nigeria where we ought to know better. Some workplaces forbid their employees from having afros or locs.

Banks and most other big corporate organizations are notorious for this.

    This needs to change.

  • Donald Trump Has Done It! A Nigerian Was Thrown Out Of His Campaign Rally!
Everybody — well most people — knows that Donald Trump is bad news. And though he wasn’t taken seriously when he decided to run for president, the whole world is watching his campaign trails and rallies and debates with morbid fascination.

He is anti-Muslim, anti-Black, anti-Latinos. In fact, he is anti-everything!

The man is so dangerous that the possibility of his winning the U.S. presidential election is as big a threat to the global economy as Islamist terrorism, according to Global Forecasting Service.

He’s against what America stands for, a country built with the sweat of immigrants.

Even Trump’s ancestors are immigrants. His grandfather was born in Germany and came to New York as an immigrant. But it seems he’s forgotten that. Even his wives were not born in America.

Trump’s rallies are known for his hate-filled speeches where he incentivizes his followers to be violent.

Trump vs. Obama: Dealing With Protesters
Posted by BuzzFeed News on Monday, March 14, 2016 And he offers to pay for their legal fees. So it wasn’t surprising when this happened at his rally recently. But it hit close to home, because it happened to one of us. A Nigerian.

Adedayo Adeniyi, a 20-year-old student at East Carolina University, attended Donald Trump’s rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina. out of curiosity.

But he was randomly targeted and thrown out of the event by police, because he’s Black!

The shocker happened as he was being escorted out of the event.

A middle aged white man, looked him directly in the face and said, “F you” three times, right before slapping Adedayo hard in the face! This happened while he was being bundled out like a bag of beans.

    The gall. The effrontery.

These are scary times, if this is happening in his rally, imagine what will happen if this man actually becomes president! That is enough to give anybody nightmares.

We really hope that this man doesn’t become president, because if he does, this quote perfectly captures what will happen.

We’re also sure that the population of people living in the African continent will definitely increase.

  • American Musician, Jhené Aiko, Snagged Herself A Yoruba Boy!

Out of nowhere and without prior warning, we heard that American singer-songwriter, Jhené Aiko is married!

We’re very sure that some guys will heartbroken by this.

But the kicker is that she’s married to a Yoruba boy no less!

His name is Oladipo Omishore a.k.a Dot da Genius. He’s a music producer and DJ and has worked with Kid Cudi, Rockie Fresh and King Chip.

Nobody knew they were married until he shared their wedding day picture on Instagram.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BDAje7OukDx/
And the made this comment to go with it: “Happy Birthday to my gorgeous wife. Happy to be on this quest w/ you!!!

We all knew they’d been dating for a while.

We know that they’ve been dating since 2014. It could possibly be longer. But nobody knew exactly when they tied the knot.

Dot da Genius had shared this tweet in 2014, but it’d flown under the radar.

    https://twitter.com/DotDaGenius/status/540937362260230145

But the important question is, how was Jhené able to achieve such feat?

Everybody know that it’s not easy to date a Yoruba boy and she managed to marry one.

    Is she an Igbo girl?

Though born in the United States, she’s of African American, Japanese, Spanish, Dominican, German Jewish, French, and Native American descent. So it is possible she has an Igbo ancestor. If not, she must have the skills of an Igbo girl! And her middle name is Efuru too.

Respect to them for keeping their private life private. We wish them a happy married life!

  • As A Burn Survivor, This Young Lady Shows Us That Her Scars Don’t Define Her
Some people believe that beauty is skin deep, while some believe that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. But how about a lady that has both kinds of beauty?

    Shalom Nchom does.

The 20-year old Nigerian was burnt all over her body when hot oil fell on her and her little sister at her mum’s store. She was 9-years old when it happened.

Shalom had burns on her face, ears, head and shoulders. She also lost most of her hair.

After this happened, things were not the same for her. She became a sort of pariah. Her friends ran away from her and she began to have suicidal thoughts.

Shalom’s aunt who lived in America was able to get her and her family visas to America, so she could have reconstructive surgery.

It was when she met other burn victims with cases worse than hers that she began to see things differently.

She began using makeup at the age of thirteen as a way to cover up her scars.

She used it as her way of dealing with the bullying she faced in school, because of her looks. But despite using makeup, she says that it isn’t the reason why she’s happy. She’s happy because she loves herself.

Shalom Nchom is now a freelance makeup artist and Youtube vlogger.

Shalom began doing makeup for her friends and classmates who admired her work. Her Youtube channel is a medium through which she inspires other burn victims.

Shalom believes that we should all love ourselves, makeup or no makeup.

  • What Happens When You Get Misplaced Anger From Nigerians?

If we know one thing, it’s that Nigerians are vocal. Very vocal. We can’t be oppressed or suppressed.

    Who wan try?

And with social media, ain’t nobody holding us down.

    We speak our mind.

But what happens when Nigerians fed up with our numerous problems attack the wrong person or party?

    What is going on here?

That is the story of Nasser Al-Saadi from Qatar and senior executive at Aljazeera, who got caught in the crossfire between the people of Nigeria and the National Assembly.

Nasser’s relationship with Nigeria began in June of 2015. His Twitter handle came under attack from angry Nigerians when the National Assembly began giving more trouble than they already do. The members got a wardrobe allowance that totalled N8.64 billion!

As Nasser’s Twitter handle is @Nass, which is the same as the acronym ‘NASS’ for National Assembly, he got a lot of misplaced fury.

His handle literally became infamous on this side of the world.

His mentions were on fire. He just couldn’t take it.

But he soon began to see the humour in the situation and decide to embrace it.

    He gave us listening ear.

And even began to champion for our rights!

And was sad when most Nigerians finally understood what was happening.

But he refused to change his handle.

He gave us updates about Nigeria.

    https://twitter.com/Nass/status/628909139654127616

Now Nasser and Nigerians are best of friends.

And he checks in with us from time to time.

    And had chats about football.

    https://twitter.com/Nass/status/672127599066394624

The when all was too quiet recently, he wondered why.

And Nigerians had answers for him.

@Nass You assume wrong, we are quiet because nothing has gone more wrong than usual.

    — So Weird (@BodieLowber) March 7, 2016

His mentions are about to catch fire.

Some even want him to be an Ambassador to Nigeria.

Some have disowned the National Assembly for Nasser.

It’s just so funny and interesting how everything turned out!

  • The Nigerian Senate Has Done It Again! They Said No To The Gender And Equal Opportunity Bill!
If you’ve ever wondered if children are more capable of leadership and making decisions than the Nigerian Senate, you wouldn’t be wrong. They keep making decisions and bringing up Bills that boggles the mind. And don’t forget the way they prefer to fight over issues like cats and dogs, than settle things in a matured manner.

Now we hear that the Gender and Equality Bill has been turned down.

The Bill which pushed for the elimination of discrimination against women has been disapproved after a second reading at the Senate.

These are the same people that are pushing to infringe on our freedom of speech with their Social Media Bill! So this comes as no surprise.

They are the same ones that made this ludicrous statements on International Women’s Day!

But still, in this time and age when we ought to be progressive, this is a huge letdown. It is a giant leap backwards!

    This is just too much.

Nigerians did not take this sitting down!

    Of course not!

    Some were not surprised.

Some realised this wasn’t the only thing the Senate voted against.

    https://twitter.com/zebbook/status/709756745820868608

Some believe that the Senate needs to be pitied.

    https://twitter.com/ChukwukaJerri/status/709752957353459712

To some, it clearly shows what they think of women.

All these people are in the Senate and the Bill still got turned down!

The senate is anti-women under Senator Saraki’s leadership.

This Bill should have been passed! It should have been passed like ten years ago! That it is even up for discussion is just unbelievable.

When the Senate who has the responsibility to set things aright, is messing up, it doesn’t bode well for the country. Like, at all!

What are our boys to think?

So the Senate didn’t see a Bill that aims to promote equality, development and advancement of women, as well as freedom of movement, economic activity and access to education as important?!

Do they care about women at all?

The bill would have protected widows, underage girls and rape victims. It would’ve kicked against violence against women! So the vicious circle just continues until something is done. [zkk_poll post=23755 poll=content_block_standard_format_16]
  • Nigerian Medical Students Will Now Spend Over A Decade To Get Their Degrees!
As if Nigerian medical students don’t have enough to worry about — like strikes, inadequate facilities and whatnot — the National Universities Commission (NUC) has decided to add something else!

According to the Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie, all medical students will spend a minimum of ten to eleven years in school before getting their degrees.

According to him, the 2015 document for the training of medical students mandates that students spend four years studying for their first degree in a science-related course. After which they will proceed to medical school to spend another seven years. Which will now be a total of eleven year — four years more than it currently is.

    Wait! What?!

    Is he joking?

It seems he might not be joking afterall! Proj. Okojie made the announcement while delivering a lecture at the matriculation and inauguration of the University of Medical Science, in Ondo State.

    How unfortunate. Very unfortunate.

We know they’re trying to copy the foreign system of medical education, but this one is too much now!

In the American school system for example, students go for a pre-med degree for four years, before medical school, which is another four years. Then three to seven years residency and fellowship.

It’s different if they actually plan to make infrastructure and facilities available and up to standard.

But knowing Nigeria, that will probably never happen.

If this is actually implemented, just imagine what will happen. By the time medical students are through, their counterparts would have gone far in life.

This is so sad! It’s so unfair! [zkk_poll post=23673 poll=content_block_standard_format_7] Featured image via PJNaijaExpress.
  • What All P-Square Fans Were Afraid Of Has Happened! They’ve Gone Solo!
First, the music duo fired their manager, who is also their brother. Then they split because of the same family drama.

Now to cement that they’re not joking, Peter dropped his first solo single on March 8.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMroyGYqQ8A
The song is about his swag and how people wants to know how he does his thing. You know, the usual danceable song.

Peter also has a new name. It’s Mr P!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BC-KvRGysBh/

Paul Okoye dropped his own single seven days later.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0E69RJOPPM
Paul aka Rudeboy, pours out his heart in this song “Call Heaven“. In it, he expresses his feelings about the ongoing drama.

Paul also posted this photo of his mum on Instagram.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BC6-J2Yxvkv/

In his song, Paul remembers the promise he made to his mum. And he wished both his parents were still alive.

In the meantime, Peter now has a new manager.

His name is Olatunde Michael. He was previously the Head of Channel at Soundcity, as well as a Station Manager for Trace TV Nigeria.

Man! They seem to be saying “Up yours” to each other.

The situation looks final too! Things will never remain the same.

  • Falz’s ‘Soldier’ Video Is Already The Best Nigerian Movie of 2016
So Falz Da Bahd guy dropped a new music video and the mini movie is already a challenge to Nollywood. These are the thoughts that crossed our mind while watching it.

    Leggo!

Of course it’s by Bahd Guys Records.

Ah! This one is a movie oh.

Yes! Adeyemi Okanlawon! This is Clarence Peters handwork too.

Ah! Indeed this is a movie!

Is this view from a helicopter or a drone?

Falz has become a news reporter. Lmao! Shawn Stober.

    Ah! They kidnapped Simi.

    Rescue mission on the way!

Lmao! See Adeyemi’s face. Looks like the rescue mission was successful.

    Okay. Flashback.

Liking how local they went for the video.

    Fine boys, no pimples.

Aww. He’s going to surprise his bae.

It’s like they’re not a couple yet. See the serious eye she’s giving him.

Yasss! The song has begun. Skip to 5:25 mins if you don’t want to watch the drama.

Her friends are not nice oh. All this shege for one person.

    Nice ad placement.

Nawa oh. Stand off because of love.

    Eh heh! Sexy teacher.

Falz has become a stalker. She doesn’t want oh.

The Yoruba mother has arrived. Lmao! He is finished!

Eh ya. Look at him. Because of a girl.

She finally changed her mind. Lol!

This bomb blast na one in town!

    They kidnapped all the girls!

Wow! See abs! See chocolate abs!

Adeyemi is using Simi to blackmail him.

What?! There’s part three?! Seriously?! It has turned into a Nollywood movie series! And it was about to get really good too!

Is this a music video or a movie? Either way, we love it! It was rather entertaining. This is obviously the continuation of the Jamb Question video.  Although Adeyemi is the bad guy here, we still like him jaare! Falz and Simi have undeniable chemistry and they’re really great actors. This video is obviously a combination of good music and good cinematography. Definitely looking forward to part three!

    Watch the full video here.

  • Check Out This Hilarious African Parody Of Rihanna’s Work Video!
Nigerians always find ways to make fun of random things and this is no different.

In this skit for Sahara TV, Nnenna and Ike created a parody of Rihanna’s “Work” music video.

This African version, is all about the typical Nigerian married couple.

Oluwadrake and Rihannachukwu quarrel about how under-appreciated they both make each other feel.

Of course, each side will claim to be right and not listen to the other side.

She says he doesn’t treat her right and he says he paid for her ticket to come to the U.S.

    All he knows is work.

Working to make money for the two of them.

And all she knows is chop.

All she does is chop his money.

The lyrics are funny, but Rihannachukwu’s dancing is absolutely hilarious!

Kim Kardashian has been on a roll in the past few days.

First, she shared this picture on Instagram and Twitter, because she apparently didn’t have clothes to wear.

The photo caused wahala on the internet, with other famous people coming for her.

Then she posted another, because one isn’t enough

Then, just in case there were still people in the world that failed to see the initial photos, she shared this one again for International Women’s Day.

Piers Morgan – ever the practical man – offered to buy her clothes.

But it seems like he wasn’t the only one who did. Twitter user. @droid254, gave her a makeover.

  • Nigerians Came For Fashola, As NEPA Is Messing Up Big Time!
It seems like the mercy period for the Minister of Power, Works and Housing is over. As the former governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola impressed Nigerians and the rest of the world with his dedication and the transformation of Eko.
So when he was handed the mantle of leadership of not one, not two, but three important ministries in the country, on November 11, 2015, Nigerians gave him some time to do his magic.

But now, the believe is that he’s had more than enough time to have done something tangible.

    https://twitter.com/chidiajuzie/status/705812302415712257
Power generation initially peaked at 5,074.7 megawatts, in February 2015 — which was a new record in the history of Nigeria’s electricity generation profile. But it has, since then, fallen to an all time low of 1,580.6MW megawatts.

Electricity supply has gotten progressively worse since 2016 began and Nigerians cannot take it any longer.

Nigerians took to Twitter to express their displeasure.

Some wondered if he was even in office.

Some were not surprised by the state of things, but by Fashola’s silence.

Some speculate that Buhari had an agenda by giving Fashola more than he can chew.

Some say that his positions should have been given to a more qualified somebody.

Some have ended their long-term relationship with him.

A few laughed at the situation.

Some believe that he hasn’t been given enough money to do his work.

Some have learnt a bitter truth – talk is cheap.

    https://twitter.com/solomonapenja/status/707848554639986688

And that action is better than words.

Fashola was given way too much responsiblity. He can’t joggle them all. But we sha still want our light.

  • 30 Things To Expect If Your Bae’s Mother Is Yoruba
Nigerian mothers are epic, but Yoruba mothers even more so. We found this thread that Wale Lawal shared a while ago about the various things to expect if your boyfriend or girlfriend has a Yoruba mother. And we’re sure you can relate to some, if not all of them.

    1. She has the all seeing eye.

    2. She’s the best cook in the world. Argue with your ancestors.

    2) My mother cannot cook but she can cook better than you. Yes, I know you’re a certified gourmet chef. My mother gave you the certificate.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    3. Your family’s social status will be in question.

    3) “Who is her father?” is what will come immediately after I mention your name. You might be right there, standing beside me even.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    4. The wedding has nothing to do with both of you and everything to do with only her.

    4) Rookie mistake babe. It’s not our wedding. If we’re both Yoruba, it’s our mothers’ wedding. Bride and Bride. Fathers not involved.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    5. For her, prayer is the major master key to everything.

    5) Aspiring Yoruba Mothers, the job is not easy. Prayer is next to breathing. Prayer is punctuation. The moment you feel it, pray.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    6. She knows how to give the epic side eye.

    6) Aspiring Yoruba Mothers, to qualify for your degree, you must take the compulsory course YM112: The Side Eye as Disciplinary Action.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    7. And it’s useful for situations such as this.

    7) The Side Eye will come in handy when your son/daughter brings home a useless woman/useless man.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    8. She asks the right questions.

    8) Yoruba Mothers know how to ask the right questions.

“Yes, he dropped out of school but Mummy, I love him.” “What is love?” — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    9. She believes that your bae wants to kill her.

    9) To be a Yoruba Mother is to be sure that your children, who love you, whom you love deeply, are trying their best to kill you.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    10. And she will remind bae that he or she can’t kill her.

    10) Aspiring Yoruba Mothers, when Kehinde bruises himself, or brings home a rada-rada girl, you must remind him that he can’t kill you.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    11. She will let you know that money is important.

    11) “But Mummy it’s not about the size of the ring, I love him.”

    “This shoelace is a ring?” — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    12. You can even be a Yoruba mother.

    12) A Yoruba Mother is also a state of mind. When you forgot the Cosine Rule in that Maths exam and prayed on your pen: Yoruba Mother.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    13. Cane solves all childish behaviour.

    13) A Yoruba Mother brings a cane to school whenever it’s Open Day or Report Card Day, because that’s what her Yoruba child needs!

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    14. And she will find anything around that will work as a whip.

    14) If she forgot her cane at home, a Yoruba Mother is not proud. She will ask if she can break a branch off a nearby tree in the school.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    15. Nothing stops her from dealing with a naughty child – anywhere.

    15) “I’m not embarrassing my son in front of his friends. I’m saving him. Those are not friends, they are a useless foolish bad gang.”- YM.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    16. She says it as it is.

    16) A Yoruba Mother is probably your only source of truth.

“Jumoke, do you have any friends? You are getting fat and ugly.” — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    17. She will snitch on you, then console you later.

    17) One time my Yoruba Mother reported me to my dad. I got caned. Later, she hugged me and told me I deserved it for being a bad boy.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    18. You must be overqualified to be able to date her child.

    18) You may not have standards, but your Yoruba Mother needs to see a CV, reference letter and transcript before that man can date you.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    19. If she takes off her gele, you’re finished.

    19) Do. Not. Let. A. Yoruba. Mother. Take off. Her. Gele. Because. Of. You. Please.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    20. She doesn’t settle disputes.

    20) If Timi and Jide are fighting and Timi reports Jide to you, your responsibility as a Yoruba Mother is to see them fight to the finish.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    21. She’s good for confiding in.

    21) A Yoruba Mother is a natural confidant.

“Mummy, I think Tunde is cheating on me.” “Why won’t he cheat when all you do is eat?” — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    22. She’s a good listener.

    22) A Yoruba Mother listens.

“Mummy can I have -“ “Shut up, there is rice at home.” — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    23. She knows how to gist.

    23) Yoruba Mothers have THE BEST gist (gossip). Please, aspiring Yoruba Mothers, you have to know how to gist. Not everyday twitter-fight.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    24. Let her not hear your complaints.

    24) I don’t think Yoruba Mothers are petty but if you complain about the salt in the jollof rice, please be prepared to cook for yourself.

    — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    25. She’s always right.

    25) A Yoruba Mother is always right.

“Mummy, there are 8 planets in our solar system now, not 9.” “Upon all you came in last last term?” — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    26. Do not try to surprise her.

    26) A Yoruba Mother does not like surprises.

“Mummy, we’re planning a destination wedding!” “And you’re just telling me? There is Skype.” — WALE LAWAL (@WalleLawal) June 11, 2014

    27. She can throw shade.

  • From Former Sex Worker To Electrician, This Young Ugandan Girl’s Life Has Been Transformed!
Women face hardships everyday, including being forced by circumstances or people to sell their bodies to make ends meet.

That is the story of Jacqueline, an 18 year old girl from Uganda.

Due to a lack of support from her parents and financial troubles, Jacqueline entered the sex slave trade at the age of 16, just to be able to put herself through school.

Her work in the sex industry began after she shared the tough financial situation she was in with her neighbour.

The neighbour then helped her get a job as a bar attendant. From working in the bar she joined the trade to make ends meet to support her sick aunt and her sick aunt’s kids.

Jacqueline had to sleep with three to four men a day, in a bid to make a reasonable amount of money.

She made between 30,000 to 40,000 Uganda shillings ($9 to $12 or N2880 to N3840) from that.

Her life continued that way until a saviour, in the form of a social worker, came to her rescue.

The woman told her about the Partnership for Empowerment of Vulnerable Girls and Women project (PEVUS), an initiative that works with young women to educate them on their rights and sexual health and helps them learn new skills. Though Jacqueline was sceptical at first, she decided to check them out, because she had nothing to lose. She accepted their support in April 2015 and was trained for free.

Two years later and with a toddler that resulted from her stint as a sex worker, Jacqueline is now an electrician.

She plans to acquire a diploma and degree in Electronics and be an inspiration to young girls so that they can aspire to be and do anything they want to. She’s also grateful that she has the means to provide for and take care of her one-year-old child.

    Jacqueline’s story is an inspiration.

  • Famous Tennis Player Maria Sharapova Tested Positive For An Illegal Drug, But Her Excuses Don’t Make Sense
So, on March 7, Maria Sharapova, the seventh most famous tennis player in the world and the highest-earning female athlete in the world, confessed that she’d been doping for a decade, though according to her, she’d been doing it unknowingly.
And in just one day, she lost the endorsement she had with sportswear giant, Nike, since she was 11 years old. Also, Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer and German carmaker Porsche have postponed planned activities with her until the situation becomes clearer. Sharapova possibly facing a two to four year suspension, which will, without a doubt, destroy her career.
She said that the drug had been given to her my her family doctor and had been taken the drug since 2006 for health issues and didn’t know that it had been banned in January of 2015. Her excuse sounds reasonable enough, until you really pay attention and follow what happened.

    1. She’d been taking the drug Melodium, which is normally prescribed to angina patients, for 10 years.

Angina patients take this drug because of their heart condition, which caused them to receive insufficient oxygen. But athletes like and take it because it helps their endurance and ability to recover from intensive exercise. That in itself should have been a red light for her.

    2. Sharapova said she had been getting the flu (a type of cold) every couple months, had abnormal electrocardiogram readings and had symptoms of diabetes, which runs in her family.

So, if she did, how does a drug for patients with a heart disease relate to her health problem?

    3. The World Anti-Doping Agency had sent her an email, on 22 December 2015, informing her of changes to the banned list.

But according to her, she had failed to “click” on the link that would have detailed the prohibited items. That is funny, because if you’re one of the world’s best athlete’s, isn’t it important to check it out the list?

Wow, it seems that most athletes are doping in one form or the other.

According to BBC, it is believed that hundreds of athletes have been using this drug and a lot more cases will become public in the near future. [zkk_poll post=22689 poll=content_block_standard_format_7]
  • 7 Things You Should Know About Vice President Yemi Osinbajo And His Beautiful Wife, Dolapo
The vice president of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo turns 59 today. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Professor of Law, he was born on March 8, 1957.
As the saying goes, behind every successful man, is a woman. As cliché as it sounds, this adage more than applies here. We’re here to talk about how the second, most prominent couple in politics keeps inspiring us.

    1. Prof Yemi Osinbajo is married to Oladolapo Osinbajo, the grand daughter of Obafemi Awolowo.

Her mother is Otunba Olubusola Soyode, one of the children of Awolowo, who was one of the founding fathers of Nigeria.

    2. Obafemi Awolowo had given the couple his blessings to get married 15 years before they actually did.

In an interview with The Sun newspaper, the vice president’s younger brother Akin Osinbajo said: “Papa stood up and faced our parents and said one of the boys should marry one of his girls (that’s granddaughters) And Mama said that can’t happen. But Papa said in Israel cousins do marry. That was about 15 years before they actually married. By the time they were marrying Papa had passed on. When the two of them came to say they want to marry later and the family said they could not marry because they are blood relations, Mama said Awolowo said they should not stop them from marrying, that Papa had said it while he was alive that they would marry.

    3. They’ve been married for 26 years.

The couple got married on November 25, 1989 and they’re still going strong!

    4. They have 3 beautiful children.

Their names are Kiki, Kanyinsola and Fiyinfoluwa.

    5. They hold pastoral positions in their church.

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is the pastor-in-charge of theRedeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Lagos Province 48, and his wife Dolapo Osinbajo, the leader of the Ladies Fellowship of the same church.

    6. They’re not shy about showing a little public display of affection every now and then.

    Aww… Couple goals.

    7. In 2007, Prof. Osinbajo and his wife founded The Orderly Society Trust, a non- governmental organization that is dedicated to the promotion of Christian ethics and orderliness.

The trust is in honour of the memories of Isaac Opeolu Osinbajo (1919 – 1996) and Oluwatoyin Osinbajo (1962 – 2006). Its aim is to disseminate ethics of integrity, patriotism, respect for civic obligation and etiquette.

    Happy birthday vice president!

Sam and other benefactors raised enough in cash and kind for Seve’s trip to China, including accommodation (4star), travel insurance and pocket money and a visit to the Kenyan embassy in Beijing to meet the Kenyan Ambassador to China (they’re working on making that happen).

So, people, your dreams can become a reality!
