6 Secrets You Should Definitely Keep From Your Partner

It’s good for you and your partner to have no secrets between each other, but it’s even better if these are the secrets you’re choosing to keep from them. Because these are secrets you should definitely tell your partner.

    That you eat semo

Eating semo is a thing of shame and you should be too embarrassed to even eat it. Why then is that something that should be shared with a significant other? What if they stop loving you? Please, abeg.

How many slices of bread you can eat

Bread is the best thing ever and that’s why you don’t just divulge how much of it you can consume in a single sitting. It’s a spiritual journey and should be experienced by you and you alone. Take that secret to your grave.

Everyone can relate to how hard it is to realize dreams, especially when they are not in the traditional bracket of what a life-long career should be — the heartache, the lack of support from family members, and so much more. “Road to Spotlight” is a film that depicts the difficulties of pursuing one’s dream while also trying to make money to survive.

The short film tells the story of Naomi (Sophie Alakija), an ordinary Nigerian who dreams of becoming a successful vlogger, making lots of money, and gaining fans via her creativity with her lifestyle YouTube channel. She recognizes, however, that dreams do not become a reality overnight, and she still has to earn a living to survive. Will she be able to attain her ambitious goals? The answer is in the movie.

A few weeks ago, TECNO premiered the movie “Roles Reversed,” which was shot on the Camon 19 Pro. The video quality was great, the story was top-notch, and the acting was mind-blowing. With Sophie Alakija as the lead actress and Kayode Kasum as the director, we can only guess how good the movie “Road to the Spotlight” would be.

  • What Makes Your Partner More Important Than Your Best Friend?

What Makes Your Partner More Important Than Your Best Friend?

A couple of days ago, I came across a tweet that said, “Aside from sex, I expect whatever kind gesture you extend to your lovers. I’m entitled to the same as your friend.”

It got me thinking, is a lover just a best friend you sleep with? Is someone you’re in a relationship with entitled to more from you than your best friend?

I know there’s no universal answer to these questions because it all depends on the dynamics of each relationship, but I asked a bunch of Nigerians what makes their partner more important than their best friend.

“My partner is supposed to be my forever person”

    Amina*, 24

I can’t say one is more important than the other, but I’d have to prioritise decisions that affect my partner and I as a couple. One of those things is money, another is sickness. But even with sickness, if it’s possible to put the two of them in the same place so I can take care of them together, I will. If that’s not possible, I’d stay with my partner because he’s supposed to be my forever person. I would hope that my best friend would have other people who can step up when I can’t.

“My best friends are my real soulmates”

    James*, 27

My best friends can NEVER be less important than my partner because they’re my real soulmates. With them, there’s never been any pressure. All I can be is myself. Plus, partners will come and go. My best friends have seen me through so many romantic problems but they’re still here. They’re a priority for me.

“My partner gives me orgasms, my best friend does not”

    Amaka*, 36

I don’t sleep with my friends because that’s a level of intimacy reserved for my partner. So my partner gives me orgasms, but my best friend does not. That’s the thing about the two different relationship types. Especially with marriage. I’ll definitely prioritise my husband over my best friend. That’s family. My partner gives me affection, acceptance, security, prioritisation, intimacy and all the other things. My best friend gives all of these things but on a lower scale than my partner.

“The connection I have with my partner is just different”

    Sandra*, 26

The connection I have with my partner is just different. The physical and emotional attraction is on a higher level. I’d like to say my partner isn’t more important than my best friend, and they both play different roles. But the truth is, on a certain level, he is. That’s the person I’m spending the rest of my life with. I’m going to marry him, live with him, have a family with him, it’s a whole thing. My best friend has her own partner she’s doing the same with. Even if she doesn’t, she still has a different life outside of me.

“It’s like asking me if I prefer food to shelter”

    Adaeze*, 21

My partner and best friend are there for two different reasons, so there’s no way to compare them. One is not more important than the other because they don’t even perform the same function. It’s like asking me if I prefer food to shelter. They’re both important, but don’t do the same things.

If you say grading their importance is a compulsory affair then it depends on what they need from me at that time. If my boyfriend loses his dad, at that moment, he becomes more important than my best friend. If my best friend loses her job, she becomes more important to me financially.

RELATED: What Life is Like When Your Best Friend is Your Soulmate

“The only person more important than my husband is my daughter”

    Mary*, 58

We’ve been taught that when you get married, whatever family you’ve had before becomes secondary to the one you’re currently building. That includes friendships.

That is not to say friends aren’t important because spouses have ill intentions sometimes. But all things being fair, your partner is more important than your best friend— especially because your best friend probably has someone in their life they’re also building a family with and prioritising over you. In my life, the only person more important than my husband is my daughter. That’s because she’s my responsibility.

“They both want the best for me”

    Lolade*, 20

These are the two most important people in my life, so I don’t think I can say one is more important than the other. We’ve been best friends longer than my boyfriend and I have dated, but he’s closer to me because our bestfriendship is long-distance now. So, my boyfriend and I hang out all the time and my best friend and I hardly ever see, but even if there’s no him, there’ll always be her.

They both equally want the best for me and will do anything to make me happy. Recently, on my birthday, I was really sad and didn’t feel like celebrating. My boyfriend planned an entire birthday weekend for me and my best friend sent me money. How then can I choose one when they both care for me so much?

Xend Finance Storms Nigerian Universities on a Student Activation Campaign

The Xend Finance App, recently launched in December 2021,  ensures that individuals and cooperatives save in dollars while earning up to 15% annual interest compounded daily. As inflation continues to hit Nigerian society, Xend Finance has continued to provide innovative solutions and beneficial saving methods. In understanding that the student population, alongside average income earners, are mostly affected by inflation, the team embarked on the campaign to not just imbibe a better financial habit in them but also educate them on how to use the App, with which they could start saving with as little as ₦3000/$5.

The Xend Finance team activated more than 1000 students in Unilag, and about the same number in UNEC as they turned up in their numbers at the Unilag’s Faculty of Education building, and the Lady Ibiam’s hostel at UNEC to learn from the campaign. The team was led by Mercy Emmanuel, the Head of Growth for Xend Finance, who initiated the campaign interaction with the students. The interaction featured a sensitisation on how decentralised finance can change lives in diverse economies, and how the app can assist them to hedge their funds against inflation. “The problem that young people face in Nigeria is that no matter how hard or smart we work, the inflation and instability of the Nigerian currency makes it difficult for us to earn money or get value out of our savings,” Mercy Emmanuel emphasised.

With the high economic benefits of the app, a great number of students downloaded it and proceeded with their saving journey. After receiving fundamental information on maintaining a stable saving culture in a time of raging inflation, the students were walked through the steps of using the app’s features. They were directed on how to create an account, set up fixed savings and Flexi save plan in the app wallet, calculate interest, and add money. The students were also able to create a next of kin profile and earn referral points. The student activation campaign marks a significant step in the Nigerian economy as it is presenting a financial culture, which will remain valid in the future, to youths at early stages.   By understanding that the value of the Nigerian Naira will continue to depreciate in comparison to other currencies in the Foreign Exchange Global Market, and acting promptly to guarantee that they can do more with it while saving in dollars, Xend Finance believes that the students will also be able to generate wealth as salary earners.

Both campaigns were a huge success as the activation was effectively conducted. “This generation of young people understand the financial peril that Nigeria is heading to, and also understand the roles they have to play in turning things around. What we have witnessed with these campaigns is a generation of youth that are not only interested in their physical environment, but are ready to work hard and smart to initiate individual and collective economic liberation,” Mercy Emmanuel, Xend Finance’s Head of Growth stated. The team also stated that they are embarking on a nationwide campaign, reaching every university in Nigeria. They believe that the campaign should be a wave that will take over the whole country and not a mild rain that is meant to affect only a part of it. “Change does not occur in part, especially when it has to do with finances. Yes, it is a gradual process, but it has to be thorough and whole at the end of the day. And that is what we are doing with Xend Finance,” Ms Emmanuel added.

Xend Finance, a global blockchain bank and decentralized financial platform, on 4th and 17th February, embarked on a student activation campaign at the University of Nigerian, Enugu Campus (UNEC), and University of Lagos (UNILAG) campus respectively to educate students about saving in stable currency using the Xend Finance App.
