If you have ever wondered whether you should use tampons instead of pads or vice versa, this article is for you.
Pads
Pads are the most common menstrual product and people like them because of the following reasons:
- They come in different shapes and sizes for different flow levels. It’s up to you to make a choice.
- They are lightweight.
- It is easy to use at all times.
- There is no risk of contracting toxic shock syndrome, which is a rare but life-threatening condition caused by a bacteria infection, often associated with using Tampons.
- Pads don’t involve inserting anything into your vagina.
Cons
- It is not as convenient as tampons. You can’t wear a pad to go swimming.
- They are more likely to get you stained because they move around in your pants as you walk.
- They are not reusable, although they are now reusable options.
- Some pads irritate the vagina and can have you itching all day.
Tampons
Tampons are cylindrical bundles made out of cotton or rayon or a combination of both designed to go into your vagina and soak blood. Here are some of the pros of using a tampon:
- They are smaller and more portable than pads
- They are invisible, unlike pads that give you fatter pumpums.
- They are arguably the most convenient menstrual product. You can wear them while swimming and even during sex.
Cons
- They are harder to use. Inserting a tampon for the first time can be such a feat but it gets easier.
- They are not the best for heavy flow. Removing your tampon every six to eight hours can be annoying.
- Although some people say they just know when they need to take their tampon out, it’s harder to tell when it’s time to change unlike with pads.
- Using tampons gives you a higher chance of contracting toxic shock syndrome.
